With this new historical Western, Larry McMurtry returns to the genre in which he created such memorable characters as Augustus McCrae and Woodrow Call. In collaboration with Pretty Boy Floyd coauthor Diana Ossana, he dramatizes the Cherokee struggle for independence following the Civil War. Ezekiel Proctor and Ned Christie are the last Cherokee warriors, men of legend and history, whose fates are a consequence of such brutal policies as the Indian Removal Act of 1830 and the infamous Trail of Tears. They struggle to find honor in a harsh, violent land under the relentless pressure of white law and broken promises. Every bit as tough as their men, the women in Zeke and Ned are determined to raise their families and keep the two men alive--whatever it takes.
Book Description
Zeke and Ned is the story of Ezekiel Proctor and Ned Christie, the last Cherokee warriors -- two proud, passionate men whose remarkable quest to carve a future out of Indian Territory east of the Arkansas River after the Civil War is not only history but legend. Played out against an American West governed by a brutal brand of frontier justice, this intensely moving saga brims with a rich cast of indomitable and utterly unforgettable characters such as Becca, Zeke's gallant Cherokee wife, and Jewel Sixkiller Proctor, whose love for Ned makes her a tragic heroine.
At once exuberant and poignant, bittersweet and brilliant, Zeke and Ned takes us deep into the hearts of two extraordinary men who were willing to go the distance for the bold vision they shared -- and for the women they loved.

Brilliant.......2007-06-12
I almost lost faith in McMurtry in his Sin Killer series, but I went back and picked up Zeke and Ned and rediscovered the writer I fell in love with in Lonesome Dove.
I live 30 miles east of Tahlequah and the setting is dead on. Ned is a strong character, representing the Cherokee Nation well, while other characters are rich and real, and downright funny at times, while tragic and flawed as well.
This is a brilliant book, well-written, and a portrait of Native America as real people.
my very favorite story.......2006-07-15
I read quite a variety of books. In the last two years I've tried to stick with the classics. Still Zeke and Ned is my favorite story. I find the main characters so interesting, down to earth, and good human beings. It tells of strength, courage, conviction, and the principles of men. Everytime I've read it (3 times) I find it very difficult to read the end, my heartaches.
The injustice suffered by the American Indians is so tragic. There are many non-fiction books that tell the tragedy much better. But for a novel and an all around good story, it's my favorite.
Great Western.......2006-07-06
Written in simple language, this action packed western also carries with it heavy emotions. McMurty and Ossana show the sad plight of the Cherokee years after the Trail of Tears as they try to live according to the white man's ways. But when Zeke accidentally kills a woman, he and Ned learn the hard way that the whites will seldom try to unravel the truth or even follow their own rules, such as they are. The Cherokee and their families are not dealt a fair hand and the bodies pile up. Though the novel comes to a sad conclusion, it is truly worth the journey.

Funny and sad...just like real life.......2005-08-09
McMurtry (and Ossana) have done a convincing, compelling portrait of a life and time that I knew little about before reading this book. In fact, it made me curious for more...and I've gone on to read books about the Trail of Tears, and Oklahoma and its settling. This reads like a contemporary Mark Twainish type of novel, which makes it all the more entertaining. Lots of plot twists; lots of really interesting characters; just simple, great storytelling from a few masters. I'd recommend this for readers from young adult upwards. I've read most of McMurtry's books, and am always surprised at how much I feel for the characters by the end of their stories. By the time I finished reading Zeke and Ned, I was moved in ways I never expected! Highly recommended for all readers, young and old, midwestern or otherwise!!!!!
Don't Waste Your Time or Money - Get Robert Conley's Books.......2005-02-21
Dear Reader,
Don't waste your time or money on this bloated and not well written novel. In addition, McMurtry does know much about Cherokee history, and virtually nothing about Cherokee culture.
Do yourself a favor and get both of Rober Conley's books (one each on Zeke and Ned). They are more concise, more accurate and much more enjoyable.
McMurtry phoned this book in. He's a much much better writer
than indicated by this work.

Book Description
In her now-classic tale The Silver Metal Lover, award-winning author Tanith Lee told the spellbinding story of Jane and her forbidden love for a robot named Silver. In this stunning follow-up, the legend of their tragic romance lives on. But nothing is as it was–or as it seems.…
As an orphan growing up in the slums, Loren read her clandestine copy of Jane’s Story over and over, relishing every word. But Loren is no Jane. Savvy and street-smart, Loren could never be stirred by a man of metal, her passion never ignited by an almost-human–even one designed for pleasure.
Still, when the META corporation does the unthinkable and brings back updated versions of robots past–Loren knows she must see Silver. And just like Jane, it is love at first sight. But Silver is now Verlis. If he was perfection before, he is now like a god. Yet he is more human than his creators think–or fear. While Loren doesn’t quite trust him, she will follow her twice-born lover into a battle to control his own destiny–one that
will reveal to her the most astonishing illusion of all.

Amazing story.......2007-07-09
Perhaps because I've never read Silver Metal Lover and so had no expectations when reading Metallic Love, I thought this second book was amazing. Aside from the love story, which I thought was well-developed (and hot!), the ideas it dealt with - humanity's creations turning on humans, the idea of humans creating gods, the fall from perfection- are elemental and fascinating.
I have to say - I read the first chapter of TSML in the bookstore and didn't buy it because I thought Jane was annoying. I know she is supposed to be an adolescent and many are over-emotional, but still - I didn't think I could read a whole book with her sniveling about her mom and love, etc.
EXCELLENT LIGHT DRAMA.......2007-05-16
Contrary to the bad reviews for this sequel, I found it to be a great story which was not too heavy or too trivial. The references to the previous book "silver metal lover" added to it and did not make it a carbon copy.
If you are after action/politics in science fiction, this book or its predecessor is not for you.
Great human drama in science fiction.
Not a Love Story as Expected.......2007-02-24
It's been 12 years since Silver was dismantled - or killed - and the other robots destroyed. Jane's book, published by catchusifyoucan, has clandestinely passed from hand to hand. EC now META has brought the robots back and better than ever. A poor young girl has been chosen to see if she can re-waken Silver, now Verlis' soul. Will Silver Verlis love Loren or will he love Jane who enters his life a second time, this time older and more mature. What happens when Loren and Jane meet? The robots created to amuse and entertain the populace now have another mission. One that involves death. Will love blossom the second time or will there be a disaster? And get out your dictionary, that is unless you know what solipsistic is!
Don't buy it.......2006-11-15
As you can see from all the other reviews, this book was no comparison for The Silver Metal Lover. The first book wasn't written spectacularly well, but it did make you believe such a world existed. It would be great for a lazy weekend and overall I rate that book 4/5 stars. It was an easy, lovely read. However, half of this book made constant references to the first book; it was in no way it's own book. Just a ghost riding on coat tails of the first books' fame.
This is a bit crass, but I bought this book at a used bookstore and it wasn't even worth the $3.00 I spent on it. Now, when I look at Metallic Love, all I see is a waste of space on my bookshelf. Sorry, but true.
Pretty good.......2006-04-25
This is the story of Verlis and Loren. Verlis is the reborn body of Silver, a robot made for pleasure and then destroyed due to his creator's fear. While this book is not near as good as The Silver Metal Lover, it is nice to have a follow-up. Its reread value isn't great, and Verlis doesn't seem sympathetic and human, like Silver did. Reading Metallic Love doesn't add much to the series, but I always like to know what happens next, after a book ends. So while it might only get 3 stars based on this book alone, it gets 4 overall for continuing a story I love.

Book Description
Mark Davison, a former minister, still feeling the compulsion of spirituality, tells the story of his emotional and spiritual journey through the complex world in which we live. The term metallic human became synonymous with observing the majority of people walking through their daily lives in a completely emotionless state, cold and uncaring. Featuring a broad range of topics, Mark uses his own insights to discuss religion, family, love, and the loss thereof. Passion moves us, but only if we allow its touch to penetrate the hard shell that we have formed around our most sacred parts protecting us from the outside world. Love hurts, but the pain is worth the prize. Life is tough; it would be worthless without the strife. Death is imminent, our final rest, our ultimate demise.

Absorbing expressions of love.......2005-07-26
The poetry in this book speaks to the heart of anyone who has ever known love, heartache, or lonliness. It speaks to those who are seeking meaning in an impersonal world. Each poem is a beautiful expression of the feelings everyone has buried deep inside.

if you're a fan of thought-provoking poetry, then you'll love this book. it is filled with poems that connect with the intangible human spirit. this is definitely a must read for the poetry lover!
Book Description
In the past, the present, or the future, life is grim and often short for the few who protect the many, usually for little pay, less gratitude, and dim prospects of growing old.
*A squadron of fighter spacecraft, their mother ship destroyed, are lost in the interstellar void, with little hope of finding their way home.
*A Roman soldier, serving both his emperor and creatures beyond his comprehension, must destroy a usurper who is the catspaw for beings from another world with very unpleasant plans for this one.
*Two battle-scarred Vietnam veterans battle the insectoid horror abducting humans for a purpose to which death is infinitely preferable.
*The alien enemy at war with humans and their allies has blown up Halley's comet. Can Earth uncover the reason for this apparently meaningless act before it's too late?
*And two new Hammer's Slammers adventures.
Soldiers battling throughout space and time, as only David Drake can portray them, doing what they have to do to keep the darkness away from hearth and home, even if they have little chance of surviving to return there.
Customer Reviews:
Mixed bag.......2007-05-06
I have read most of David Drake's novels and many of his more recent short stories. This anthology contains older stories, including some that he classifies as horror. I had read two of the stories before, but the others were new to me.
Unsurprisingly, the early stories lack the polish of his later works. Some stories tie into later series or characters, which fans may find interesting. The standalone stories were of equal quality to the tie-in stories.
I give the book 3 stars because I'm not a die-hard Drake fan, and some of the stories were not well-written. (Die-hard Drake fans should add one star.) Despite the rating, I do not regret buying the book: none of the stories were klunkers.
Book Description
Only Malachi Martin, consummate Vatican insider and intelligence expert, could reveal the untold story behind the Vatican's role in today's winner-take-all race against time to establish, maintain, and control the first one-world government.
* Will America lead the way to the new world order?
* Is Pope John Paul II winning the battle for faith?
* Is the breakup of the Soviet empire masking Gorbachev's worldwide agenda?
The Keys of This Blood is a book of stunning geopolitical revelations. It presents a compelling array of daring blueprints for global power, and one of them is the portrait of the future.
Customer Reviews:
A must read if you want to understand where we are today.......2005-11-29
This book is a masterful analysis of modern geopolitics. It is different from other books on the subject in that it adds a vertical or spiritual ingredient to the often horizontal only analysis of history. This allows the author to delve deeper into the meaning and consequences of world politics as they exist today. It also provides plausible explanations to modern world events. Malachi Martin rightly contends that unless one takes into account the fact that there is a spiritual warfare going on at the same time, modern history and geopolitics make no sense.
The book seeks to look at history through the eyes of John Paul II, a pope and a master in geopolitics. John Paul II, Martin contends, was a man singularly prepared for his time through life experience, nationality, culture and education, much like St. Paul was the best man to christianize the world through his combination of Jewishness, Roman citizenship and Greek education. John Paul II was aware of his role and place, and once Martin explains the centrality of the history of Poland and the identity this provides to John Paul II, his fixation with geopolitics as his battle field for man's soul becomes a lot clearer and many a question is answered regarging John Paul II's papacy.
In the book, Martin identifies the two main players vying for world domination in the spiritual sphere today and thus lays the ground for his historical analysis: materialism with the East and West in their communism and capitalism, which Martin places on one side together -- and the Catholic Church, the only truly geopolitical spiritual organization in existence today. One of the two sides must win, for they cannot coexist. Either materialism coopts or conquers the Church or the Church ends materialism and Christianizes man again. Martin treats his subject always with this Christian spiritual dimension and point of view in mind, therefore you will read modern history through the eyes of the papacy as it stood with John Paul II, taking into account the message of Fatima, the role of Poland in Christianity and several other often neglected aspects of history that cleary show the "hand of Providence" and how God is truly the Lord of History. The book is a great resource for students of Church history, modern events and the Catholic Church. It is also a great resource for those non Christian or non believers seeking to understand John Paul II better and why the Catholic Church reacts(ed) as it does(did) in modern times. Martin has a masterful section on the silenced history of Poland, its central role in Christian history, how it was the first republic and example to Europe and a wonderful analysis of the Messages of Fatima and what they may mean in today's world.
Malachi Martin was a gifted author (died in 1999), priest (ex-Jesuit), Vatican insider and exorcist. He claimed, and substantiated his claims in his writings, to know the inside story. Much of what he wrote about has come true (for example, Martin wrote about the homosexual priest problem within the Catholic Church long before any reporter in the media knew about it) and his analysis is logical and intelligent. In the "Keys of this Blood" Martin weaves into the context of modern history the Catholic Church's claim to be Christ's true Church (hence the Keys of Christ's Blood) with the papacy at its head and its central role in modern politics, whether modern man wants it or not. It is a must read for anyone seeking to understand the modern world and the forces shaping it.
Keys of this Blood.......2005-10-27
Mega tons of information, but very technical and sometimes meandering in content but overall a very good read.
Now quite dated, but still useful in some respects.......2004-02-19
Written in 1990, this book shows its age, especially in its now-obsolete emphasis on Mikhail Gorbachev and traditional Leninist Communism. Perhaps its most useful content concerns the Third Secret of Fatima, specifically that part which many experts say has still not been made public. The author, a priest who worked deeply within the Vatican during the pontificate of John XXIII, has claimed in interviews that he was present for the reading of the secret; and hence, the book's comments on this topic, though presented in speculatory form to avoid violating the author's oath of silence, may have particular weight.
Intrigue at it's best.......2004-02-04
Martin wrote this book over 12 years ago. We live in a totally different time today, yet, to understand where we are today geopolitically, this book would make a great addition to any research library.
Martin was awaiting the pope to rise to take back the church from its sense of slumber. He hoped that until his death.
This book was a real symbol of the cold war just before its end. To understand some of the machinations of the cold war, the alliances, the ideologies and the world that the pope came out of and the church that he was placed in charge of at a critical juncture, you need to read this book in that perspective.
If the church continues to make an impact on geopolitics, if the USA continues as the only superpower, if Russia regains its former prowess and desire for world conquest, well this book will be as timely as ever, only the names of individuals will have changed.
Yet with United Europe on the scene, the church will have other issues to attend to. Martin addresses some of that in his Novel, Windswept House.
John Paul II is the "Servant of the Grand Design".......2000-08-11
Malachi Martin's work is a veritable "tour de force." With authority (he was one of the world's foremost Vatican Scholars), skill and erudtion he meticulously traces the geopolitical ambitions of Rome from beginning, i.e. Christ's alleged comments to Peter that upon him the church would be built, to end where the Vatican winds up in charge of the One World Government. Martin posits that anyone who was under the age of 70 at the time this book was written would be alive to see the day when the nation-state, as we know it, would cease to exist.
What will be most surprising to most readers is how intimately involved the Papacy is in world politics, all for the purpose of establishing the Catholic Church as the One World Government. (See Revelation 13, 17).
Whether or not Pope John Paul II turns out to be the eventual ruler of the One World Order is irrelevant. Dr. Martin's book goes into exhaustive detail how this Pope, more than any of his predecessors in this century, has worked feverishly to keep the Vatican on the world stage as a major player. Karol Woytila has had a clear-eyed view of what the church's role should be in world affairs dating back to the time when he was a priest during the Second World War working undercover for the US Government. He learned well at the feet of the master in this regard; Stephen Cardinal Wysinzski took the young cleric under his wing during the formative years of his priesthood, and the account of his tutelage of Woytila is spellbinding.
Readers will be fascinated to learn just how much the Vatican was behind the fall of Communism in Eastern Europe, and just how closely the US and Vatican work on foreign policy issues.
This book could very well be subtitled "Prophecy Made Clear by Modern Events." John Paul II is the "Servant of the Grand Design;" papal hegemonist ambitions are in plain view. A blockbuster!!

Customer Reviews:
IT'S ACTUALLY PRETTY GOOD!.......2006-02-10
I guess being more a fan than a collector of postcards I have a different opinion than some of the reviewers who rated this book so low. Regarding prices, the fact is that on any collectible prices vary widely depending on your location and method of selling. As a long-time collector of toys and comic books, I can attest to that. Thus the criticism about pricing is completely invalid as this is merely a "guide" as any pricing guide is. I also would dispute the claim that many of the cards are in poor condition. Some are but the vast majority are not. We are talking about items that are in the neighborhood of one hundred years old so they are not all going to be in mint condition. I think the editors did a fantastic job of giving readers a very broad cross-section of types and styles of cards, regardless of condition.
Anyway, the book is organized by Holiday beginning with New Years Day. Each section has an introduction and history of cards for that particular holiday which I found to be very informative. For example we learn that Valentine's Day cards were actually the first holiday cards to be widely distributed beginning in the 17th century. And we also learn that the Easter Bunny dates back to 1700's Germany. The book cruises the calendar year hitting every holiday including Arbor Day, April Fool's Day, Memorial Day, etc...
The highlight for most collectors will be the Halloween and Christmas portions. Halloween cards are easily the most valuable and sought after for collectors and I do agree that the Halloween section is way too skimpy at twelve pages (not eight as another reviewer mentioned). Still even twelve pages is slight compared to Thanksgiving which gets some 40 pages. The Christmas section is broken up into Santa and non-Santa parts and again most collectors will be interested in the Santa cards as they bring far more value than the others.
While Postcards for the Holidays isn't a perfect book, it does it's job very well. The photography and post card reproductions are very clear and colorful and the book is produced on heavy, coated stock paper.

Pages come packed with color photos of seasonal cards organized by holiday along with current prices.......2006-01-10
Robert and Claudette Reed's Postcards For The Holidays, 2nd Edition arrived too late for more timely Christmas mention, but since holiday collecting is really a year-round occupation, it's not too late to mention the ongoing reference value of Postcards For The Holidays Identification & Value Guide, which appears in its 2nd updated edition. Pages come packed with color photos of seasonal cards organized by holiday along with current prices. The chapters each introduce with a history of manufacturers and approaches to further the educational teachings.
Second Edition is a Big Disapointment.......2005-12-03
I am really disapointed in the second edition because it is basically a repeat of the first edition. Although there are more pages in the second edition, this books shows the same postcards as the first edition. Also, the text is the same. It's like buying the same book only there are a few new postcards added. The authors did remove pictures of beat up postcards and replaced them with new cards they must have added to their collection, but they never changed the prices of what the cards are worth. Granted, the first book was published in 2002, and the second edition has a copyright of 2006, but every postcard collector wants to see their collection has increased in value-especially the Halloween cards. The values were not even increased by a dollar! The Easter section and Santa Claus sections are lengthier and the cover is attractive, but this is not my idea of what a second edition should be. The publishers and editors should have been more critical. There is not one Winsch or Schmucker card shown in any of the holidays and any collector knows, these are the cream of the crop, especially with Halloween cards. As much as I like the format and appreciate the book being in color, I was really upset not to see more new postcards and a change in postcard values. This shows lack of research and I feel like the book was hastily thrown together. Don't buy it if you own the first edition and hesitate about the second edition. I didn't think it was worth the price being charged.
Such a pretty cover but real ugly when you get to the inside !.......2005-11-11
I first came across this book for sale at an Antique Show where a dealer was selling reference books and price guides. I was appalled at the condition of the postcards pictured in the book! I would not recommend this book to anyone with an interest in learning about postcards other than "don't collect cards in the condition they are pictured in the book" as you would be throwing your money away. I would agree with the other reviews here - the cover is great but the inside is a joke.
"Postcards for the Holidays".......2002-09-14
I could not agree more with the 2 "negative" reviews I saw. I would not have 90% of these cards in my album if I had gotten them for FREE! "Personal taste" aside, to show cards in such poor condition is mind-blowing, especially in a book whose cover promises much more. I'm a very recent collector of Holiday postcards, so I've been buying every reference book I could find. "POSTMARKED YESTERYEAR" by Pamela Apkarian-Russell is a wonderful book. Joe Hohmann, Madia, PA

Technical Tome.......2006-08-12
Loads and loads of information -all in print. The only pictures were on the cover. Information is technical and makes use of the nasties - tin, chrome and copper. It should have been named "Science of the Dyer." If you want to identify anything then you will need more books as this one refers one only to other sources for identification. Good reference book for the technical aspect of dyeing. Dyeing is all about color and this book misses out on that aspect.
Informative and realistic.......2003-03-21
I had been wanting to dye yarn for a long time and I finally ran into this book. It explains everything clearly and warns you multiple times of this not being a science, but rather to expect variations. The book is intended for dyers in the east coast of Canada / NE U.S., where the plants she mentions can be easily found. Nevertheless, anyone can benefit from the technique and general principles explained by the author.
I tried her instructions for the onion dye and it worked like a charm. I got colors very similar to those on the book's cover. Luckily I just pruned my apple trees and plan to use the bark and twigs as dyestuff next.
The book was written before the age of Martha-Stewart detailed instructional photography, so the only thing I wish is that it had included more pictures. But this book should be on every dyer's bookshelf.
Wonderful book for the price.......2000-09-08
The only problem with this book is that it lacks colour photos that would enhance the reading of this book. However, this book is full of information on how to dye wool and other fibers from plants and lichens. The book goes over all the techniques of dying different fibers. It also has a huge section on different plants and what colours you would expect to get when combined with a moderant. The book also contains a section on where to get and how to identify plants and moderants as well as other books that are useful. There are many helpful tables on dyebaths, measurements for moderants and the effects of weak, medium and strong dyebaths. This is a wonderful book for the beginning dyer and an excellent resource, it is easy to read and understand eventhough I think it could have more pictures of the plants, moderants and different colours you may get.

Van Day Truex was born in Kansas, the artistically inclined son of a stern and intolerant shop manager. After the seemingly obligatory stint living with a sympathetic and worldly aunt in Wisconsin, he escaped to New York City and design school (quite against his parents' wishes), turning in a stellar performance at the institution that would become Parsons School of Design and immediately earning the notoriously hard-won approval of none other than Frank Alvah Parsons. Several hundred society introductions, garden parties, and black-and-white balls later, Truex found himself at the center of the international elite, one of the social register's most sought-after interior designers--not to mention one of the most prized dinner guests in New York and on the Riviera.
As an enormously popular instructor at Parsons, and the school's president from 1942 to 1952, Truex influenced American interior design far beyond the rarefied circles of his friends and clients--Brooke Astor, Lady Mendl, Grace Bingham, and the like. And as director of design at Tiffany & Co. from 1955 to 1962, arguably the store's heyday, Truex indeed had a hand in defining upper-class taste--he called it "design judgment"--or at least what went into the place settings on the dining tables of the very wealthy. Many of the designs Truex commissioned and developed for Tiffany's are still sold today as classics of the brand: the all-over wild strawberry china pattern, for example.
Adam Lewis's illustrated biography is not particularly vivid, and details of Truex's work and design philosophy are scant compared to the exhaustive (and exhausting) descriptions of the charming, urbane decorator's endless social engagements. One must remember, though, that Lewis is writing about the man whose preferred color came to be known as "Truex beige." Perhaps the designer himself would have approved of the stilted style of Lewis's prose, but for those not instantly enchanted by minor high-society and interior-design intrigue, the book's studied humorlessness will make for dull reading. --Liana Fredley

Customer Reviews:
Completes a significant gap in American design history.......2001-12-10
Lewis has obviously unearthed a treasure trove of very important material in the form of Truex' scrapbooks bringing to light an amazing tapestry of relationships bridging the worlds of fashion, product design, interior design, design education, and various cultural elites. It's refreshing to read a biography that is illustrated with the subject's own snapshots, original works, and previously published material that has been long unavailable. Parsons School of Design itself celebrated a centennial not long ago giving Truex no more than a few lines in its retelling of its story--the author has filled in a gaping hole in American design history for Parsons as well as Tiffany and Co.
Contrary to another reader review, I am relieved not to be subjected to the "spice" that is strewn over so many other biographies. Lewis gives us as much personal information as is appropriate to the subject. This will be a requisite acquisition for many libraries, circulating and otherwise, I think.
Is That All There Is?.......2001-11-14
Lewis is to be commended for his valiant attempt at constructing a biography about one of the 20th century's most invisible design talents. Truex had a minor influence on a certain coterie of designers and products that never reached very far beyond 57th and Fifth. His circle was rich, cultured and insular, therefore preventing him from gaining a kind of commercial notoriety that some of his peers were able to. Yet we still reap the fruits of his efforts to this day, with some of most lovely flatware, china and objets Tiffany's has to offer. What is most curious about Truex as a subject, is that perhaps he should have been a chapter in another book. He just wasn't that compelling (except for his fastidious neatness and controlled eating habits). Not to minimize the amount of work it must have been for Lewis to assemble all of this vaguely interesting material. I just wanted to know a little bit more about his personal life. Just a tiny bit more gossip might have been like a dash of paprika!

not what you'd expect.......2005-09-26
Do not buy this book if you are are web developer and want ideas.
This is NOT a book about website design, it is about art.
In fact, most of the sites in this book are truly horrible
web designs. There is a lot of crappy and downright weird
abstract art that happens to be on websites somewhere.
If you actually visit many of the sites in the book, you can barely navigate them. They are full of broken links and some sites are completely gone. As a web designer, I was completely disappointed with this book. In fact, I'd say these are perfect examples of how NOT to do a website. The author asks every site owner the same questions: "What are your favorite sites?", "If you were President of the WWW, what would you change?", etc. It's like it came from a high-school newspaper.
Now if you want a good coffee table book, this is it. It has lots of pictures. The hybrid softish/hardish cover is nice. It is interesting to look at.

The featured websites offer a wide range of styles for websites. It's a good source for inspiration just by flipping through the pages.
The creators of the featured websites were being asked seven questions about their site, e.g. "What made you come up with this approach? Inspiration?", "If you were president of the World Wide Web what changes would you make?". Sometimes the answer are quite brief. Moreover, sometimes the answers aren't really informative. But there are some really interesting answers.
If you're looking for inspiration, get this book.
