Book Description
In Close to the Knives, David Wojnarowicz gives us an important and timely document: a collection of creative essays -- a scathing, sexy, sublimely humorous and honest personal testimony to the "Fear of Diversity in America." From the author's violent childhood in suburbia to eventual homelessness on the streets and piers of New York City, to recognition as one of the most provocative artists of his generation -- Close to the Knives is his powerful and iconoclastic memoir. Street life, drugs, art and nature, family, AIDS, politics, friendship and acceptance: Wojnarowicz challenges us to examine our lives -- politically, socially, emotionally, and aesthetically.

A Masterpiece.......2006-10-30
Close to the Knives is David Wojnarowicz's masterpiece. He was an accomplished artist but I think this writing is where he really turned it out.
Mixed Results.......2006-02-20
David Wojnarowicz reveals his backstory in layers, throughout the course of this essay collection. Eventually a complete picture is conjured, of Wojnarowicz' dysfunctional family, his youth on the streets, prostitution, and same-sex lust. His writing is very natural; alternating at first between his sexual and suicidal fantasies, before unleashing his wrath for the American politicians who are deliberately withholding information about AIDS from the public (a condition which Wojnarowicz himself is battling.) The information imparted here is shocking; the insidious influence of the church in American government is uncovered here lucidly, and David gets personal -- introducing one of his dearest friends who eventually dies from AIDS. His grief takes on a political significance, as he has lost many friends to the disease, and is aware that this suffering is unnecessary, and could have been prevented.
This book is very intense, and David Wojnarowicz' prose is potent and often original, but towards the end it starts to unravel. He begins using more experimental techniques, such as dream sequences, interviews, and motifs ("Smell the flowers while you can"), as well as alternating between two seperate narratives, which I found self-indulgent and wearisome. Maybe it was cathartic for him as a writer, but from the reader's point of view, tying together these seemingly (and perhaps actually) unrelated threads just ultimately wasn't worth the effort. After being seduced by Wojnarowicz' prose initially, the final impression left on me wasn't particularly positive, as the message had been hammered home quite well enough by then, and I had to force myself to get to the end.
A Masterpiece: More Timely Than Ever.......2004-11-24
CLOSE TO THE KNIVES is simply one of the most important books ever written by one of the most brilliant creative minds of the era. This is an AMAZING, STUNNING and thoroughly SUPERB collage of essays surrounding Mr. Wojnarowicz's battle with HIV, dealing with the politics and bureaucracy of the disease, justice, history, the ranking of lives as "important" and "unimportant" by the powers that be, and life in general. FIERCE, POETIC, and INSIGHTFUL these pieces compose a whole that packs an awesome whollop and is nothing short of GENIUS. This book lights fires and breaths fire with the energy of the words literally screaming from the page at points. CLOSE TO THE KNIVES is also sad proof of yet another life lost before it's time due to the AIDS pandemic. It is a call to action with a message that has not dimmed one iota since it's writing. More timely and pertinent than ever.
One of my favorite artists.......2002-07-20
I first discovered Wojnarowicz in a "Village Voice" article in 1990. Everything about his work intrigued me. He had a passion for life, and a sort of well-placed fury that is invigorating without being negative and worked in almost every type of art medium possible. I did a Master's thesis on his works that include photography and writing in 1994.
I first picked up _Close to the Knives_ over 10 years ago and I've thumbed through it many times since. It's a combination of stories, essays, talks, and catalogue entries. The beginning is a bit difficult because there isn't a lot of punctuation. But the stories begin to slowly make sense, and get more grammatically correct. Throughout his writing wanders from being angry, scathingly funny, to erotic and back again.
I'd recommend him to anyone interested in gay/lesbian writing, outsider art, the history of AIDS and the anti-NEA battles in the early 90s. Apparently his estate is releasing more writings as time goes on, so I'm not up to date on everything available. But _Memories That Smell Like Gasoline_ is good, although depressing.
Books on his visual art are _Fever_ and _Tongues of Flame_ (both museum catalogues), and _Brush Fires in the Social Landscape_ (a book with essays by friends and great photos published by Aperture photography magazine). I can't easily describe his visual work, but he had a great visual style, a wonderful sense of composition. Early on he exhibited graffiti type paintings, and explored photography/writing more from the late 80s onwards. I like his photography the best, usually including his writing. He died of an AIDS-related illness July 22, 1992.
This Mortal Coil.......2001-11-17
Enter the young male prostitute, performance artist, author, street monger, and angry prophet. He was all of these things and more until AIDS finally claimed him. But with Close to the Knives, he has left us all a very precious legacy--a frame of reference that begs us to truly witness the politics of suffering in American society and become more compassionate in the process. His omnivorous approach to our culture is dizzying, enraging, mysterious, beautiful, dangerous, heartbreaking, and very very necessary. When I finished reading it, I turned it over and started again. I will never be the same.....I have been galvanized.

Book Description
On the surface, Jordan Hadlock has it all. A great job managing the English newsstand in the old quarter of Lucerne, Switzerland. Rich and renowned Swiss industrialist Helmut Eckherdt is intent on marrying her, even though she hasn't said yes. What more could she ask for? A clap of thunder and a pounding on her door soon give her an answer. Reeves Grant appears seeking shelter from a sudden downpour, but the real storm is inside Jordan and the passion they share that night. The next morning he disappears without a trace.Still reeling from the encounter, Jordan plays hostess at Helmut's lavish dinner party, where Helmut announces that he and Jordan are to be wed -- at the very same moment she spies Reeves Grant snapping pictures of the event and her new "fianc+." Now Jordan is moving toward the altar with a man she likes but doesn't love. And working on a feature of the wealthy Helmut -- often only inches away from her -- is photojournalist Reeves Grant, bringing with him all the memories of the emotions she felt one special night. Not Even For Love captures the wild fluctuations between doubt and desire in complex relationships while offering the engrossing tale of a woman who must learn to trust her instincts to discover exactly who she is and what she wants.
Customer Reviews:
Can you say "no" Jordan?.......2007-04-12
Well I have not had the benefit of reading other Sandra Brown's. This was trash. I got the CD version on sale and thought it would make an entertaining car trip. Jordan is so controlled by both men. Both men want her primarily for her looks. Reeves is a little violent, Helmut is just an egotist. I almost threw it away after disc 2 but I wondered if maybe Jordan ever stood on her own two feet. She doesn't.
Passion aplenty; plot a little.......2006-07-26
Widow Jordan Hadlock is an American in Switzerland. Working at a bookstore in Lucerne, she is the object of desire of wealthy Swiss industrialist, Helmut Eckhardt. Not sure if she is ready for another marriage, she holds Helmut at arm's length. But a chance meeting with a fellow American - photographer Reeves Grant - puts her life into a tailspin. When he seeks shelter from a storm, they end up spending a night filled with passion together, and in the morning, he is gone.
Imagine her surprise when the hunky Reeves is assigned to photograph Helmut for an article, and at a lavish party, Helmut announces to his guests that he and Jordan are to be married (despite her never agreeing). As she gets pushed into more interactions with Reeves, their undeniable attraction cannot be extinguished, and after another passionate night in a storm, will she take a chance on Reeves?
Touted as another "classic love story" from Brown, it really is just a dated cheesy 80's romance novel that's light on plot. You'd be better to borrow this one from the library.
Wonderful.......2004-11-02
Jordan is living in Europe away from her parents and the only home she knows. She did this to put a space between being a widower after her husband died in a car crash. It was not a happy marriage. She currently works in a book shop and live above it. One night when the rain was coming down someone started pounding on the bookshop door eventhough it was close. She look to see who it was and found it to be man named Reeves Grant who was a famous photographer and journalist.
She let him out of the downpour and before you know it they are making love. In the morning he disappears and she feels ashamed for going to bed with a man she just met. Later in that day she is attending a very high society function with the billionaire Helmut who has become smitten with her. When she was introduce to the man who would be writing an article about Helmut it turned out to be Reeves. From there on the story plays like a love triangle until she finally chooses. Does she stay with a man who is enarmored with her or does she go with a man who she is not sure how he feels about her. Great read a little unbelievable pertaining to knowing on the first night you sleep with someone that there are the one but hey this is after all a romance novel.
It begins on a stormy night with a stranger at the door..........2004-10-22
This book revolves around three main characters: Jordan, Helmut and Reeves. It's a tale of a woman torn between marrying the rich man she's been dating or gambling on a man she's just met but had some steamy moments with. Truly predictable, this book is a quick read full of some of those nice, romantic love scenes that we've all come to expect from Sandra Brown. It's not her best book, but not her worst. I recommend that you check it out from the library or borrow it from a friend, but I don't think it's worth paying money for...
ONE NIGHT CAN MEAN AN ETERNITY!.......2004-09-30
YOU WOULD THINK THAT ONE NIGHT OF PASSION COULD ONLY MEAN ONE THING. "ONE NIGHT STAND". NOT WITH JORDAN AND REEVES. I HAPPEN TO KNOW FROM PERSONAL EXPERIENCE THAT LOVE CAN BLOSSOM FROM AN UNEXPECTED EXPERIENCE.
ONE THING THAT I AM NOT FOND OF THAT KEEPS REPEATING ITSELF IN SANDRA BROWN'S BOOKS IS THAT THESE MEN AND WOMEN ARE USUALLY ATTACHED TO SOMEONE ELSE WHEN THEY MEET EACH OTHER. IT'S MORE EXCITING WHEN TWO SINGLE PEOPLE MEET AND FALL IN LOVE. WHEN YOU ARE WITH SOMEONE ELSE IT MAKES IT LOOK LIKE ONLY A LOVE AFFAIR AND NOT THE COMMITMENT TYPE OF RELATIONSHIP THAT SANDRA BROWN IS TRYING TO PORTRAY.

But an ancient, dying race sees this human outpost as a last hope for survival...and millionaire Walter J Matheson III sees it as a marvelous business opportunity. When the Doctor and Peri arrive they find a fractured society dependent on film and TV. They also discover that the Republic's greatest entrepreneur is in league with one of the Doctor's oldest enemies. Excellent Dr Who story!.......2006-11-07
Doctor Who - Synthespians, by Craig Hinton. BBC Books, 2004.
Paperback, 276 pages.
If you like books or movies with pop culture references (Shrek 2 comes
to mind), or if you're a child of the '80's, you'll like this book.
This adventure features the Sixth Doctor (Colin Baker) and Peri
(Nicola Bryant).
From the book:
"We've been colonizing other planets for a thousand million years,"
she said, turning to the camera and giving her trademark smile. "All
right, Mr. Matheson - I'm ready for my close-up."
In the 101st century, nostalgia is everything. Television from the
20th century is the new obsession, and Reef Station One is receiving
broadcasts from a distant Earth of the past, transmitting them to a
waiting audience.
When the Doctor and Peri arrive on Reef Station One, they find a
fractured society, totally dependant on film and television. They also
discover that the Republic's greatest entrepreneur is in league with
one of the Doctor's oldest enemies.
As the alien influence spreads in tentacles throughout the Republic,
the Doctor and Peri must unravel the link between Walter J. Matheson's
business empire and the invaders. Because, if they don't, they'll end
up in the deadliest soap opera of all time.
Synthespians is one of the best books I've read in a long time. It's
not just good Doctor Who, it's good sci-fi. Very-well thought-out.
Excellent execution of the plot, very credible characters, wonderful
use of the typical tongue-in-cheek humor associated with the Sixth
Doctor. This would have made a brilliant episode on television. Maybe
a tad expensive, but worth it.
An excellent read, even to the acknowledgements and dedications.
If you want to find out for youself, stop here. The are spoilers ahead.

Walte J Matheson enters a deal with Nestene Conscienceness to rescue
it from destruction by, of all people, the Time Lords. The Nestene
agree to have itself "downloaded" to a single Auton host, in the form
of Dominique Delacroix, soap opera mega-star. Matheson is playing two
sides, though. He is sickened at how mankind has allowed itself to
become the mindless sheep they have, enslaved to the entertainment
media - movies and television. Matheson has successfully taken over
several major ventures on Reef Station One to secure his future and
the Nestene invasion. He ownes the mobile phone industry, the 3DTV
industry, and the small appliance industry (toasters, vacuum cleaners,
tootbrushes, etc). He has also created a new non-surgical plastic
surgery technique called Skin Deep. (You can even hear the TM). Then
there are the Synthespians, synthetic thespians created to take the
more dangerous roles that some actors wouldn't be willing to take. But
Synthespians have also made themselves part of everyday life in roles
such as taxi drivers, consierges, cooks in private homes, etc.
Once downloaded, the Nestene would colonise the Republic. Matheson
would make a plea to the Union to come their aide and, once the
Nestene were destroyed, become a hero. The slaughter of millions would
be collateral damage.
The Doctor and Peri, with the help of Claudia Brubakker, whose father
owned the mobile phone industry prior to Matheson's hostile takeover,
and Marcus Brooks, washed up soap opera actor, must stop Matheson and
the Nestene without themselves getting killed in the process.
The Doctor goes through his own personal demons in trying to stop the
insidious plan.
This book is the perfect set up for the events of the Trial of a Time
Lord, but is both better Doctor Who and better science fiction. A
must-read for all Doctor Who fans.
Book Description
Somewhere between the past and the future lies a dimension that is free of problems, free of suffering, free of conflict. This is the essence of all the world's spiritual teachings. And it is available to us now, in the moment we read this.
On Living the Liberated Life and Dealing with the Pain-Body, bestselling author Eckhart Tolle points a way out of the conditioned mind that keeps us trapped, helpless, and unhappy. In simple language, he describes a deeper level of consciousness beyond the limited thinking mind, and the way to make it available to you. He teaches that only by fully accepting this moment in time can you free yourself from the "pain-body" - the accumulated pain of your past - and from your fears about the future. Once you achieve this state of presence, a radical inner transformation begins that connects you with an infinite potential that defies the human mind. Warmly shared, in the authentic voice that has brought him international acclaim, here is Eckhart Tolle's simple and profound gift to us, at a time when our world needs it most.
Customer Reviews:
Wisdom in a box.......2007-08-27
I have listened to Living a Liberated Life several times now and each time I learn something new. Tolle brings a new perspective to the source of pain in our lives.
One of Eckhart's best.......2006-02-05
This was the first audio I ever heard of Eckhart, back in 2004 I believe. Since then I have heard a lot of it, and I value it more highly than his books. "Something shines through the words" he says, and indeed it does. I remember being quite surprised at how deep and resonant his voice is the first few times I heard this. Anyway, this is an excerpted recording of what appears to be one workshop in which the subject of human pain/pain body came up and it is very good. If you have suffered a lot of stress, traumas, injury or you just feel less than good a lot of the time, it is likely that you could benefit greatly from Eckhart's revolutionary insights into human emotional suffering. I say revolutionary because in all the spiritual teachings and respected teachers I have explored, I have never seen anything addressing the topic of past pain that lives within us, and more importantly how to deal with it. Really, what makes this audio exceptional is the delicate balance he strikes between discussing this pain and discussing what could be considered more positive aspects of the teaching he offers, like how nature celebrates life-and we are returning to that state, how the pain body becomes our greatest ally, and itself turns into intense aliveness and vitality when freed, and the joy that we can feel as the "inner body". The third disc adresses the dissolving of karma (evidently karma and pain body are nearly the same thing)and contains a q&a session regarding children's pain bodies, pain bodies in relationships, bringing consciousness into work environments, and dealing with the pain of great loss
I recommend getting the "eckhart audio collection" (this with realization of being and even the sun will die) because it is a good deal and "Realization of Being" is fantastic as well. Enjoy
Excellent clues for expelling our personal demons.......2005-04-13
This set of CDs talks about how the lack of being present-to-life shows up in our personal lives. I have been working on personal growth work for years and I have listened to dozens of authors. This one CD is packed with clues about where I can become more conscious and improve my experience in life. Anyone truly interested in personal introspection and willing to confront the negative aspects of their life will find this to be an excellent self-help tool.
Why is there a need for Tolle to continually say more.......2003-05-17
Having read some of the reviews and ideas I am afraid I have to agree about the way Tolle is marketing himself. He says that on enlightenment 80 % of his thought processes disappeared. He is a lovely and simple and inspiring guy and I have sent copies of his book to many people, and the CD Even the Sun will Die, but I would love to know why he feels this need to keep saying the same thing over and over and use his enlightenment like so many others to make a buck or two.
Is there no other way to be....do we have to earn a living by marketing our spiritual awareness...how many CD's did Gandhi publish....? Will we have Tolle key rings next with NOW written on them?
Please Tolle take this to heart...you are a lovely lovely man with a wonderful and simple message....do you do this for the love or the money?
This CD is an excellent tool.......2003-01-05
This CD helped me put into practice more deeply the teachings in the book "The Power of Now". It also clarified a lot of things that I didn't fully understand or needed expanding. This is an excellent companion to the book and I highly recommend it to anyone.
Please do not pay any attention to the 'reviewers' that rated this CD as anything but 5 stars. Their problem probably wasn't about the material itself. It is top notch.

Comparison shopping...........2006-09-10
I've noticed that a few people have said the book is worth reading but the price is steep. In my comparison shopping, I found the publisher on Ebay selling the book for $16.99 (plus shipping). Just thought I'd mention that here...I don't quit 'til I've found the best price and it's not always at Amazon.
This book has the POWER.......2006-08-08
This 57 page paperback edition of She-ra toys is well worth the pricey tag that comes along with it-- at first i was disappointed with the amount of pages for a $30dollar book- BUT almost every single page is colored-and there are excellent pictures of every She-ra MOTU character including crystal castle and the extra outfits and comic books.
Each of the characters has a page dedicated to them- in color- and a SMALL description of each; including what makes them more valuable and variations between year releases. Then there is a box to the right of the picture with a average price for a NIP (new in package), complete (with accessories etc), and loose (the figurine without all clothes/swords/etc). At the end of the book is one page dedicated to the Horde characters (minus Cat-ra & Entrapta who each had their own page). There are not prices for the Horde characters.
Some of the action figures are missing their accesories in the pictures but overall they are complete- a couple of them shown are NIP as well.
DePino also provides a concise introduction worthy of a standing ovation. I loved this guide and read it from front to back. I would recommened the book to She-ra collectors as well as Children/Teens of the 80s who had anything to do with these characters- a nice item to have and read.
The entire She-Ra toy line in paperback form.......2006-06-18
What an awesome book! Hillary DePiano has compiled an unbelievably thorough inventory of all the Princess of Power toys and related accessories that were released in conjunction with the She-Ra cartoon. "The She-Ra Collector's Inventory" features an introduction that summarizes the creation of the He-Man and She-Ra toy lines and cartoons. There is a page devoted to every She-Ra action figure that was ever released. In addition to photos of each action figure, DePiano also gives a brief description of each character and the special features of each toy (mobility, accessories, collector's pricing guide, etc.). There are also photos and descriptions of She-Ra playsets, books, fashion accessories, and other Princess of Power merchandise.
This is an amazing book for anyone who is a serious She-Ra fan. I was a huge fan of the She-Ra cartoon when I was a child and I owned many of the different action figures and toys that are featured in this book. Sadly, most of those toys were lost or thrown out a long time ago, but now I can pick up this book and fondly remember all the fun my sister and I had playing with our She-Ra and Glimmer action figures and the Crystal Castle and Crystal Falls playsets. Those are some of the best memories of my childhood, and now they're all available in this fabulous little book!
Some people have complained that this book is too pricey. I think die-hard She-Ra fans will gladly shell out the money for a book as awesome as this! The only disappointment I had is that the book is almost more like a pamphlet because the cover is so flimsy. Maybe DePiano will consider releasing a hardcover edition that includes info on all the She-Ra DVDs that are in the process of being released.
If you loved She-Ra as a child, you really need to buy this book. It's the next best thing to owning every single She-Ra action figure that ever existed...and how many people actually have all that stuff?! NONE! Buy this book...you'll be so glad you did!
A must have for all Princess of Power She-Ra collectors.......2006-01-18
This is the ideal book for collecting or selling She-Ra action figures. It is very complete and full of very interesting informations. Hilary made a great work with this book. The price guide is very close to reality. You won't find best book on this topic. So you will not regret buying it.
Enjoy !
Brings back memories......!.......2006-01-13
I have been looking for a guide such as this for some time now as She-Ra is my favourite toy from my childhood. Just browsing through the book brought all the memories flooding back. The pictures are fantastic and the listing of all the action figures, accessories and playsets would be very helpful to the collector. There is also a fab introduction and notes on other dolls such as Golden Girl and He-Man. The seller delivered really quickly for an international sale too, and was very friendly in all communication. Well worth the money!

great quilt book.......2005-10-20
I also got this book out of the library then immediately purchased a copy. It has great timeless quilts, some of which look incredibly modern, although they are 100 years old.Every time I look through this book, and I do regularly, I see something new to admire that I havent noticed before. I was also very impressed that the book has the instructions and templates for 20 of the designs. I figure there are at least 10 quilts I would like to try my hand at. I would recommend this book to anyone who appreciates quilts.
Treasury of American Quilts.......2005-07-07
A good basic introduction to American Quilts. For a quilter it is an informative and historic referance book.
All you need in one book.......2002-10-30
I checked this book out from my library and after flipping through the first few pages, knew that I had to have it. It has a wide variety of quilts for inspiration, and if that is not enough, patterns and directions for making several of the quilts featured. The instructions are extremly helpful; I have several books and magazines, but none equal the information given in Treasury Of American Quilts.

A great READ11.......2007-09-17
Grab a cup of coffe & relaxc as you read this book. It is very informative & will help you implement your own style.It is as good ,if not better than her first book. I can only assume the bad reviews are from people who just looked at the pictures. I don't think you will be dissapointed with it but actually reading it would help! Thanks;
Slight Compromise Needed.......2006-05-28
This book initially threw me off. It is so different than most decorating books I have. You know the ones; you flip through the pages and find gorgeous rooms and decor. You don't have to read a word to get the gist of the decorating style and decide which components you love and want to imitate.
This book is different. I have never heard of this decorator, nor have I read or seen any of her other books. This is one you definitely have to read, but the text is in such big type that it does not seem daunting. I'm sure the big text helps to fill up pages, BUT I thought it was great for making the reading easy.
Now I would say the first half of the book is talking, teaching and some of it is kind of new-agey, get in touch with your home's feelings kind of talk which makes me grin...but that's okay. I like a little humor in my life! For those who think I am kidding, page 65, starts with "Learn How Your House Wants to Live." I want to learn how I really want to live in MY house! LOL
It does have good information and kind of gets you thinking in a different way. I like how the author recommends you categorize your furniture and accessories into Love It, So-So or Leave It. It does explain that her "Leave It" category means it is out unless you will end up with a naked room, sleeping on the floor or eating on the kitchen counter. So some "Leave It's" will have to wait to go out the door. Her recommendation is to make it tolerable by covering with a favorite tablecloth or with the most beautiful bed linens you can afford. I would give it a 3.5 star.
Just what I needed.......2005-09-08
As a complete decorating neophyte, who, when I've needed to decorate, has always looked outside, to others, to magazines, etc., this is exactly the book I needed. Jennings has given me the confidence to go with what I like, what suits me, and what makes me feel comfortable. Then she goes into structured detail showing me how to recognize my own style. To the decorating mavens out there - note that there are so many of us who listen far too often to others' advice to the detriment of our own style and comfort. Although this book has a "self-help" feel about it, the title clearly states what this book is about- Confidence in one's preferences and choices and how to go with them. Its focus is not color schemes and style as much as it's about finding the confidence in your own self to decorate how you want, regardless of whatever anyone else may think. Thanks Lynette!
No Personality Decorating.......2005-08-24
Having loved Jennings' previous book, Straight Talk on Decorating, I plunged into this one with cries of glee... and quickly hit bottom in the dry pool. Ouch! I'd swear some of the photos of Jennings' own houses appeared in the other book, and there are far too many pages that consist only of a brief pull-quote in the Alexandra Stoddard "love yourself -- spend more on high-end housewares!" style.
The real disappointment, however, is the before-and-after case studies. All of these people have basically the same furniture: three bulky sofas, two bulky chairs, a gargantuan entertainment unit, and some matching tables. Move the sofas away from the wall, balance the entertainment unit with the largest focal point in the room, accessorize, accessorize, accessorize! And voila! The room looks just like a spread in a Better Homes & Garden decorating book, right down to the "flea market finds" that are conveniently available at a Marshall's or TJ Maxx near you. There is not one single funky, individual, or even mildly interesting room in the lot.
Why do I go as high as two stars? Before-and-after photos are always worth a star. But if you want to see rooms rearranged, Lauri Ward's Use What You Have Decorating is a more useful book with more interesting layouts.
disappointing.......2005-03-06
This book is not what I hoped it would be. It seems to be mostly a pep talk on how to avoid trying to make your house conform to other people's tastes. I don't need such a pep talk - the "getting to know me, getting to like me." What I do need, however, is pointers on how to make my house conform to my tastes. Clearly, Lynette Jennings is an excellent decorator - but I want her to tell me how she does it! The system she gives in this book she doesn't even follow. For example, she tells people to sort their furniture into what they love, what they think is so-so, and what they don't like at all. Then, when actually decorating their houses, she often completely ignores this list (and even says so on occasion) and uses furniture the owners of the house had been ready to discard. Another example, when she talks about putting colors together, she refers readers to the color charts in her previous book! I want step by step pointers on how to achieve certain looks. There is very little of that in here.

Kurt was murdered!.......2000-05-22
Kurt was beautiful. He was probably one of the most gifted men to come into this world, and he had to leave when he had just arrived. It is hard to find beauty now, and when you finally stumble upon it and then lose it, it is hard. I won't let Kurt go without a fight. If you think Kurt killed himself, read this book. It disects the situation as close to perfectly as I can imagine. It will turn a follower into you. Courtney had it taken away from us, the same way she took Kurt, but I can get you the book if you want it. E-mail me. googoogrl60k@hotmail.com
he didnt even meet kurt! ...................2000-02-22
i dont no why i bothered reading a book where courtney loves father gets to diss her(when really he hardly nos her).( he wasnt allowed custordy of courtney when his wife used the fact that he gave courtney LSD's at age 4 in a court of law) (want proof?search courtney love on the internet and go to the site saying'dedicated to protected courtney against rumours'), he never even meet kurt or frances..mr harrison doesnt give courtney lee-way such as she soothed kurt through herion withdraws while she was having his baby. just thinking about this annoys me.it disturds me that mr h. wants to paints a clear picture;that his daughter is evil .read it if u want it might be true but mr harrison has tried to make money of peolpe he doesnt really no before -the grateful dead-he wrote a book about them after being their manager for one month or something-then he was fired.
THE BEST OF ITS GENRE!.......1999-10-23
This book was so painstakingly written and researched that it's a shame that ms Love has had it repressed. She will get her dues paid if enough people read this informative book.
Even if you hated Nirvana, you will find that Kurt Cobain didn't kill himself as the media would like you to continue believing.
Courtney is a very shrewd and manipulative woman, and it's unfortunate that she crossed paths with the man that had much more to offer. While Courney has contributed nothing to the world. Unless riding the coatails of the gifted is an accomplishment. The tale of Kurt and Courney is very reminiscent of Ayn Rands' Fountainhead.
a well deserved 5 stars.......1999-09-12
hank harrison put alot of time into this book researching and devoloping his story i also believe that kurt was murdered .the evidence was over looked in this case. i pity courtney for being able to live with the murder she helped/commited like another day. thank you kurt, we all miss you
Best Possible Book on Cobain, Up-to date........1999-06-20
There are several Nirvana books on the market, this one is the most profound and well written. Hevaily researched and very empathic. Kurt would have liked it.
