Another great book by Sandra Cisneros!.......2000-06-11
I highly recommend this book because it is another marvelous work by Sandra Cisneros. Like her other book, The House on Mango Street, it offers sad tales from the hearts of young girls and is an excellent insight on the unique prose style of Cisneros. Besides being enjoyable, the Spanish version may be helpful to those studying Spanish by working on translating, otherwise, this book is still a great classic that any fan of Sandra Cisneros should enjoy!
Cisneros.......2000-03-30
I love this book. Cisneros writes in such a beautiful and poetic style that I am immediately wherever she takes me. Often when reading this, I had to stop to write down certain lines that appealed to me, such as, "...I believe that love is always eternal. Even if eternity is only five minutes." Wonderful stories.

Do I really need to know about the Hero's roiling bowels? .......2007-05-07
I mean c'mon seriously Coulter. She expends a great deal of written energy describing in detail the twisted bowel movements of several of the characters. I really don't need to know that the Hero's bowels cramp in pain every time he overindulges in red wine. All I pictured from that point on was the Dumb and Dumber sequence when Jeff Daniels explodes after writhing in agony on his date's toilet seat.
She's written better characters, plot lines, and dialogue. Skip this one, or at least don't read while eating or sitting on the throne...heh heh.
Great book, if you're a caveman! .......2006-08-05
The men literally drag the women by their hair in this novel, it is beyond me how it got categorized as a romance. The romance is virtually non-existant whereas violence is abundant.
If you're looking for brutality, rape, incest, homosexuality, and things of that nature, read this novel.
abusers are not romantic.......2005-07-22
The negative reviews here pretty much sum it up. I wasnt planning on adding anything until I got to page 243 and read "He had never struck a woman and wouldn't begin now". The woman in question is Ennti - I guess all of those times his fist connected with Mirana's face didn't count. Not to mention his foot on her neck, throwing her on the ground, whipping her in front of his men for failing to address him as ' my lord', raping her (he feels her "flinch with pain" he "violently forces her down onto him" yet apparently this is okay because he slicked her up with soap first). This should not be touted as romance. I'm stopping on page 243 - I've wasted enough time.
Poor Example from a Great Author.......2004-11-20
I thought I would love this book...and out of all the viking series I did like it. But it was poorly written. I have seen that Ms. Coulter does rewrite some of her novels this is definitely one of them that needs to be reproduced.
She had one to many loopholes that aggravate me as the reader. I loved Miranda's character. In my opinion out of all her characters I've read, I've only liked Alexandra Sherbrooke as my ideal woman next to Miranda. What was disappointing there was not enough more combatative fighting between Miranda and those that kidnapped her nor just a visual between her brother and her.
Secondly with Miranda and Rorik...there was no romance. I cannot figure how a man moves from detesting the woman to deciding to marry her...although there was a small explanation or round about, mainly Rorik's thoughts on how strong she is and capable.
But besides the romance...the sex scenes were horrid. It seemed cold and clinical. There was no passion. Between Douglas and Alexandra, or even the Legacy/Brides/ and the rest of the Viking sagas..there was some kind of passion that gets you excited and into the hero. But Rorik was horrid as a lover and poor Miranda just seemed unimpressed..until she decided to take things into her own hands...and then she had to be ill before that was sucessful. So the quality of romance/passion was utterly lacking in this fic.
My main concerns would be to develop Miranda more and give her a bit more nuances, and expand on her fighting skills with a bit more action.
Another would be to definitely romanticise a bit of the sex scenes at least and give them a bit more loving relationship. That is not only based on a marriage of convenience.
I think those two would change things a great deal and really improve the book!
gone Viking!.......2004-09-16
This book made me want to 'go viking' - in other words take a long trek away from it!
Why are people always so accepting of the 'fact' that men in early history 'must' have been cruel and stubborn, coarse and violent therefore it's ok for hero's in books to behave so.
I don't actually agree with any of that. Historical fact shows that men, then as now, could be caring, sharing beings who actually liked their wives and kids! William the Conqueror adored his wife as did John of Lancaster his Kathryn and Henry his Eleanor of Aquitaine.
So why did the hero here have to be so unsympathetic and the heroine so accepting of her treatment at his hands - human nature is diverse and being a Viking in the 8/9thC didn't make you any more liable to be a thug than living in the 21stC makes every man a saint does it?
I heartily agree with a lot of the other reviewers that for the author to subscribe to the idea that violent times create violent people and therefore 'Viking' must equate with thuggery is short-sighted and trite and boring to read.

Valor's Choice.......2007-01-10
A must read for all Tanya Huff fans. In her usual exceptional style, Tanya Huff takes you into the world of Staff Sargent Torin Kerr and keeps you interested from the first word to the last.
If you're new to Tanya Huff's work, you're in for a treat.
More for kids than adults.......2006-08-22
I bought this book becasue of the reviews given here, only to be disappointed.
This book is more for kids than adults. For example, the first scene in the book is a one night stand between the main character and an alien who seems to be a cross between a christmas tree and a newly mowed lawn. This managed to offend me on a number of levels.
If you like STARFIST go for it. But if you've ever read Guy Sager's "Forgetten Soldier", pass it by.
Valor-iffic. A great little "aliens can't fight so they get the barbaric humans to do it" story .......2006-05-29
A good military sf story. On the edge platoon trapped on backward planet attacked by nearly unarmed natives, who won't stop. 4000 vs. 50. Good alien races, quickly and deeply described. Well done infantry battle, without being bogged down with too intricate detail, good main character. Essentially a further along "aliens can't fight so they get the barbaric humans to do it" story (with addition of a few other fighting races too) but better done than almost any other. Could be a great series, doesn't need a sequel, but there is one.
Different.......2006-02-05
This book is a little out of my comfort zone. I don't usually read Millitary fiction and I tend to lean toward fantasy over sci-fi. However, I was getting bored with my normal stuff and ventured out a little bit . . . and was rewarded. Valor's Choice is funny and interesting. In fact it is much funnier then I was expecting and much more touching. This is an extremly well written book that I would suggest to all sci-fi and fantasy fans.
Strong characters, Good Storyline, Great Read.......2005-09-15
SSgt Torin Kerr is one of the best female characters in a military sci-fi book since David Weber's Honor Harrington. Huff has created a strong, intelligent and human character in Kerr. Kerr is surrounded by very interesting and entertaining characters from a variety of different species. Huff created a great storyline in sending a combat unit to accompany a diplomatic team as they attempt to solidify relations with a newly discovered, extremely aggressive species. The integration of all of these species into one military force makes for an interesting and sometimes hillarious story. But in the tradition of generations of great NCOs, Sgt Kerr demands and gets the best performance out of every member of every species . . . even those who are outside of the chain of command. The final battle, based loosely on the battle of Rorke's Drift in 1879, was exceptionally well written. I really enjoyed this book and want MORE on Torin Kerr!

Unexpected Miracles.......2007-05-30
Mr. Richo provides a wealth of information on the subject of Synchronicity. His work in this important field of study provides those of us who speak and write on the subject with a broader context upon which to help people who want to learn to understand the gift of synchronicity and learn to believe in the possibility of a lifetime filled of miracles.
Really enjoyed this book.......2005-09-10
If you wish to unlock an interesting part of your self and see the energy of the world in a different light....read this book.
I love the exercises that you can do at the end of each chapter. It really helps you reinforce what you have read
disturbing synchronicity.......2002-01-06
I have believed that alot of this stuff is hocus-pocus. And yes I have read some of the other "originals" mentioned in another review. However I picked up this book and found that one of David Richo's favorite Shakespearean quotes has long been mine also - from the Merchant of Venice. I thought that interestingly weird! Since then I have thoroughly enjoyed his books and am making friends with the idea that perhaps this cynic can learn something. I didn't give it five stars as I'd like David Richo to write another book that goes more deeply into this subject! I DO think, however, that the reader would benefit from buying and reading this book.
Nothing very unexpected or miraculous here.......2000-11-07
Maybe I've read too many books covering this same territory, but this one doesn't seem to me to have very much new to offer. There's a great deal of wisdom here, but all of it's cribbed directly from well-known sources and, while well enough written, the work is compiled without much original contribution by Dr. Richo. The underlying ideas are a blend of classic Eastern philosophy, Jungian psychology, Christian and Buddhist ethics, and Joseph Campbell's mystical anthropology, all packaged into a kind of pop New Age format complete with "practice" exercises and an advertisement on the last page for Dr. Richo's tapes and workshops. None of this is to say that the book isn't thought-provoking, but only to suggest that readers who are familiar with the source material may find Unexpected Miracles derivative and a little dull. The most useful purpose the book could serve perhaps is to stimulate people who haven't read the originals to experience the rich rewards of doing so.
This was no gift........2000-10-26
David Richo is obviously intelligent and armed with a stunning vocabulary. However, this said, he never manages to get beyond the academic and esoteric when discussing synchronicity. Although he is quite informative when speaking about different religions and metaphysics in general, he is unable to explain clearly how we as individuals should go about understanding, creating and applying synchronicity in our daily lives. There are "lessons" at the end of each chapter, but these seem almost an after thought. I was very anxious to get my copy of this book, but was more than just slightly disappointed when I finally was able to read it.

Beast Alvarez Strikes Back!.......2007-06-25
Transformers are back. Jobie Alvarez is back! This book is a Beast (no transformers pun intended)! The Quadrilogy is complete! It's this book story about these two Beast Transformers who fall in love with one another. They want to have a baby Transformer but can't conceive on earth do to The Dreadknocks. So they adopt this baby girl Transformer from the Planet Naboo but they are kind of pensive since the baby is missing a converter and can't change from a Chevy Malibo into robot form. So all the baby girls' friends think she's mentally challenged and is banished to the retarded transformer school with the rest of the challenged. Professor Xavier uses his mind meld to melt cheese and turn the Transformer family into cheese. But they stop him and enroll their adopted girl Transformer child into regular school where like Lindsay Lohan in Mean Girls finds that life as a teenager has it's ups and downs. And the girl Transformer is really hot and just needs a makeover to become Queen of the High School prom. So that's just what happens and she becomes Queen and gets a new Chevy Malibu as a graduation gift from her parents which is odd because essentially she's a Chevy Malibu forced to ride in a Chevy Malibu. Is Jobie Alvarez a good writer or what. He rocks and so does this book!
Jobie Alvarez knows how to create a story in the Beast Transformers universe and again melts your pupils with exquisite words and adjectives. I highly recommend this book. I recommend all 4 of them. I stack all 4 up and put chairs on them. They make me feel taller. Sometimes I take chucks of the books and stuff them in my shoes. It's like a 3 for 1 offer when you buy this book. And if Jobie signs it for you one day you can sell it on Ebay for half it's value! It's hot. It's Transformers. It's now. It's Jobie. It's most Alvarezie!

Customer Reviews:
A good start but not the best out there.......2007-08-20
I managed to get this book but was not really impressed with it. It sounds more like the author is re-living his childhood through the book. I must admit the history of each toy line is pretty good for those who 'missed' the toy period. The price guide can be thrown out the window cos may be irrelevant now. Some pictures show the figures in their boxes, some in robot mode, some in car/plane/etc mode. What's missing is pictures of the individual figures full set, like guns/accessories. The images could have been done in a more professional way. The pictures do not do justice to one of the greatest toy lines in history. After owning this book, I'm now eager to get better quality books out there regarding Transformers. It's a good book to read by your bed side but not for serious collectors.
Unofficial Guide toTransformers 1980s to 1990s is great!.......2005-11-07
The Unofficial Guide to Transformers 1980s to 1990s is a great book! This book maily talks about the early Transformers toys from the 1980s and 1990s. J. E. Alverz talks through the history of the Transformers when they were early Japanese Mircoman and Diaclone toys. The book has many pictures of the toys, comics, videos, and other old Transformers memorabilia. J. E. Alverz is a good writer. He tells you everthing you need to now about Transformers toys in America. He also writes about Beast Wars: Transformers toys and The Japanese Transformers figures! Buy it! Highy Recommended! J. E. Alverz writes a great Transformes coffee table book! A+
If your new to collecting Transformers get this book!.......2002-03-01
This book has it's ups and downs, the ups include,it identifys a wide range of the toys, I didn't know some of the toys existed(I'm was new to collecting when I bought the book), there's little bits of background info dotted here and there, it runs through most of G1, G2, Beast Wars and Machine Wars, The main down is it doesn't show all the toys. E.G Runabout, Runamuck, the Throttlebots and a few others are missing but not that many. If your starting a collection this is the book to get!
Disappointing........2001-11-21
This book is flooded with amatuerish writing, corny jokes and lots of pointless prices. I'm not looking forward to story reviews, etc. but at this price, the writer should at least include pictures of all weapons, accessories, instructions and tech specs. I'm very disappointed with the effort. I won't call it a waste of money, but I do feel shortchangedby the poor quality. Seriously, if I've his collection, I could have done something similar, if not better.
If you don't mind not reading the words, I suggest you get Transformations: Generations. The pics are superb and they showed all weapons, too. No box, tech specs or instructions, but the presentation is much more professional, and the pictures are definitely of a higher standard.
Buy this book only if you're a hardcore TF fan, flipped through it once and then forget about it.
Unreliable.......2001-09-22
I went to sell my collection and when I asked for the prices that this book quoted, each store I went to laughed at me for relying on this book to help me sell my collection. Don't go by this book.
Customer Reviews:
Useful to HARDCORE Transformer collectors, mere curiosity to anyone else........2007-04-06
Some sections of this book I found to be quite neat to look through, but how difficult would it have been to include the ACTUAL Transformer toys themselves??? I know he has another book for that, but at the price paid for this book, it would have been nice to at least have reference photos of the vintage (80's) action figures along with all the other stuff (would've been 18-20 more pages maybe). Some of the sections in the book get monotonous (trying to get excited about collecting every book published about Transformers is a tough request), and I found myself thinking "who cares?" more than once. Overall, I think this is maybe a $19.95 book, but not more than that as I've purchased many many more collector oriented books that were better AND cheaper than this one.
Best Book about Transducers Ever! Alvarez strikes again with a vengeance! Lock up your Gobots!.......2006-03-07
I'm happy to be the first to say that Alvarez strikes again! This is a great book. It has so much history you wouldn't believe your eyes. Alvarez has keen eye for american history and this serves the world of transformers perfectly.
I have never been in love with a book more than with J.E. Alvarez's Epic of Transformery love. How two intimate robots could come together and love each other is nothing short of literary masterpiece.
Robots in disguise? I happen to think Pulitzer in disguise is more like it.
Do you want to transform 40 dollars into a book you'll cherish forever? Start here.
Thank you J.E. Alvarez. Thank you very much.

Customer Reviews:
Prime reading.......2004-09-02
Since 1999, Mr. Alvarez has done a great job of providing both the curious observer and hard-core fans a visual guide to the Transformers toy mythos. This addition is a particular triumph because of the wealth of photography of rare figures, both those whose presentation vary dramatically from their North American release and those never released outside of the Japanese market.
It really is a teaser for the community, to leave fans salivating for these rare items.
While the visuals are first rate and Alvarez does an admirable job of walking the reader through the significance and timing of each release, it's clear he is no writer. A lot of his writing borders on the banal, although he does a better job of conveying the message in this edition than he does in others in this series. But as this is really not intended as a great writen masterpiece, the superb organizational job more than compensates for the prose here.
This is a must-have for anyone with a passing interest in Transformers toys.
A good history lesson, but an uneventful book........2003-10-12
What I learn was the Transformers were put together by Takara from combining many different toy manufacturers line in Japan. Later in the early 80s a storyline was conceived through the cartoon series and a seperate comic from the existing toy products. This simply mean the story had very little to do with the early toy design. The problems I had with this book is it is not a very good as a toy catalog nor did it described the history in great detail. The writing is not very deep nor long, it just give you a lot of surface information that make you ask for more questions. Each chapter writing contents averaged only about a page long. There are no in depth analysis on the individual toys at all. For the image qualities: The photographs were horrible. The photographers need to learn about lighting and angle. You get a lot of pics of Transformers' boxes, unsharp close-up, reddish tint, redundancy, and a lot of white empty area. As a history book there is not enough for you to own this book, more of a library checkout. Takara's own "Welcome to the World of Transformers" as a toy catalog is much better. There is writing for each toy products and the photo is very professional, but it is in 95% Japanese's' text. I am somewhat happy with this book, but can not recommend it to a casual fan and it was done very generic.
Lots of pictures... and that's it.......2003-01-28
I bought the two guides and I don't see any improvement from one to the other.
A lot of pictures, some trade prices but that' s it.
I expected some explanations but for an "unofficial guide", there is not even a word about the previous transformers (diaclone, kronoform, etc) and/or all the fakes you can find.
There is also no chronology and more over as a european transfan I didn't see something about the european special releases.
In others words: it's every thing but a reference.
You would find much more info by surfing on personnal web sites.
I gonna keep the two books cause there are very nice pictures in them but it's very disappointing.
This sequel is a vast improvement over the previous guide.......2002-04-03
I liked the original book (80's through 90's) but this book is SO much better. The writting has improved although some dire humour is still there, the pictures are of a better quality and show more details of the variations. A lot of the Japanese Transformers i have never seen before as well as the white Astrotrain and Red Tracks for example. The price guide should really be dropped as it really isn't that neccesary. The only thing that is realy missing is the Programme and comic guides but there could be a chance he's saving that up for another book. It is a good continuation of the series and I'm looking forward to the 2nd edition of the origianl and the Beast Wars book keep up the good work.
Another excellent book.......2001-08-08
Lots of pictures to drool over, and lots of information that I did not know previously. If there are omissions in this one, I am not equipped to point them out. The price lists are still here, and I still consider them unneccessary. Don't use them as a guide if you're looking for a deal ...This is a minor quibble. This is a must have book for the Transformers fan.

Book Description
This book both argues for, and demonstrates, a new turn to dialectic. Marx's Capital was clearly influenced by Hegel's dialectical figures: here, case by case, the significance of these is clarified. More, it is argued that, instead of the dialectic of the rise and fall of social systems, what is needed is a method of articulating the dialectical relations characterising a given social whole. Marx learnt from Hegel the necessity for a systematic development, and integration, of categories; for example, the category of 'value' can be fully comprehended only in the context of the totality of capitalist relations. These studies thus shed new light on Marx's great work, while going beyond it in many respects.

This is the best book for digital design. Covers CD-ROM, Websites , DVD and Kiosks. Great inspiration. This is not a how-to book neither a lots-of-text book. It's perfect for web designers who want to create and innovate web graphics.

Concise, to the point biography of Meryl Streep........1998-07-19
This book achieves its aim but does little more than that. It is now a bit out of date but it is still worth a look if you are a fan of Meryl's.
