Book Description
Passionate Mistakes helped catapult the nascent queer girl culture of San Francisco's Mission district to the world. The novel charts the turbulent adventures of one girl in America as she moves from Boston's teenage goth world to whoring in New Age Tucson before finally arriving in San Francisco’s dyke underground.
Honest, sarcastic, lyrical and direct, Tea's writing is possibly the most literate and sophisticated treatment of underground dyke culture ever written and circulated. She is a reincarnation of when Jill Johnston used to be cool.

---.......2006-03-15
Maybe viewed as a sociological document, the book can be viewed as of some value. Ms. Tea documents about a decade of her life 14-24. Grew up in Boston area, seemed able to run into Boston and hang out with various crowds. Lots of drinking, living a "wild" life, I guess. Her boyfriend Ian, with whom sex was a chore. Moving into a lesbian life, which it almost appears she wills herself into because she does not seem to develop any sort of deep emotional attachment. She works some; has girlfriends; Lize gets her into whoring and they become a couple. Back and forth to Tucson a couple of times. Denouement, of sorts.
These facts are recorded, but there seems to be little in the way of facts from which one could discern how things went this way, what caused them. She expresses certain political views (capitalism is bad; feminism is good; environmentalism is good; etc.) but they seem to be adopted because they are politically correct among the crowd. She seems to have few views of her own and not much in the way of guiding principles. The book certainly does not seem to portray an attractive lifestyle; indeed, the author does not seem to enjoy much of it. While folks may have an occasional story which would be interesting to hear, the people are not interesting nor honorable. The life seems almost desparate, though Michelle seems to be able to plough through the life.
Not for everyone.......2006-01-16
The typos and run-on sentences were killing me, but this memoir was hard to put down and definitely worth my time.
worth a read if you like ms. tea.......2005-10-18
although this wasn't a life changing, earth shattering book by any means i thought it was worth my time. it was fun and personable. a good first attempt and worth a read when you consider the effect she has had on young, queer liturature. don't expect perfect prose or classic liturature, but if you're looking to kill a few hours with a "querky" queer gal or want to read the debut by the author of valencia, than give this book a shot.
The Painful Mistake I Made by Buying this . . .......2004-08-26
Ugh! This is my third attempt to read a Ms. Tea product, who is very highly respected, etc. But boy, she is just not my type. However, I am certain, based on my interactions with many of my people, that there is a HUGE audience for this stuff. Just not for me. And by writing this review, I'm hoping to sear into my memory that I found this book horrible and don't need to buy anything else by Ms. Tea!
Don't do it.......2003-07-24
I didn't get it. Are we supposed to feel sorry for her? Think she's great and an ideal role model for young women? Right over my head, kids. I thought this book was terrible.

Book Description
The Last Arrow
The Prince of Darkness
She caught him trespassing on her family's lands, the sensuous and mysterious knight who had come to Normandy to challenge her brother, Robin, in the tournament at Chateau Gaillard. Brenna Wardieu's well-honed instincts warned her that Griffyn Renaud was no ordinary mercenary. When she discovered he was the invincible Prince of Darkness, undefeated champion in three lands, she feared he has been hired to do more than just defeat Robin in the lists.
The Fires of Passion
She was Lady Brenna Wardieu, daughter of the legendary Black Wolf, and from the moment Griffyn found himself at the mercy of the magnificent lady archer, he suspected he had met his match. And when she offered him her body in exchange for her brother's life, it proved to be the instrument of his own defeat, for the passion he discovered in her arms threatened to shatter not only the armor surrounding his heart, but the peace of two kingdoms.

Great Take on the Robin Hood Legend.......2006-04-18
What an awesome rolicking romp. Especially once everyone got to England and Nottingham. I really liked the way the author brought the characters with their names into the Robin Hood saga. Things really cooked in the last part of the book when they got to Sherwood and the battle, etc. with the evil Sheriff of Nottingham. Loved the reunion with Robin and Merianne (sp?). All around great read -- I am dying to read the first two books of the series -- back ordered by Amazon and I am patiently waiting.
Kudos yet again, Ms. Canham!.......2004-07-06
I defy anyone to name a writer who does better secondary characters than Ms. Canham and the stories are SO much richer for this.
I was also amazed at the poignancy, the gladness & sadness I felt, to see our hero from Through A Dark Mist some 2+ decades later. She has aged him realistically and Lucien is paying for all the physical trauma he suffered over the years and that just really touched me and made the story seem so real.
As usual, Ms. Canham takes us on a great roller coaster ride full of drama, deceipt, passion, & humor with a strong hero AND heroine. I despair of the day I run out of her books. I tend to space them apart, with 1 or 2 other stories in between, so I always have the anticipation of another Canham on the shelf. And it's an even greater plus that her stories lean towards 500 pages, usually, so there's more of her to love! :-)
One of the Best HIstorical Romances I've Ever Read!.......2004-05-12
This book is a must read! It is adventurous and romantic and the characters are very colorful and rich with life!
A Terrific Swashbuckling Medieval Romance!! Excellent!.......2004-01-02
Filled with swashbuckling adventure, sweeping pageantry and the story of a passionate romance, Marsha Canham outdoes herself with this superb historical novel. "The Last Arrow" is the final book in a trilogy which began with Ms. Canham's "Through A Dark Mist," followed by "In The Shadow Of Midnight." It is not necessary to read the first two books, however, in order to thoroughly enjoy this one. The author gives a wonderful summary of her previous two novels here, and this book certainly stands on its own very well. I have read many series novels and rarely does an author succeed in continuously creating fresh ideas and storylines throughout. One of Ms. Canham's major achievements with this trilogy is that her plots are always original, never repetitious or contrived, and her characters continue to grow and acquire depth as the years, and pages, pass. The backdrop for this adventure-filled romance is medieval England, Wales, Normandy and Brittany during the reign of King John "Lackland."
Lady Brenna Wardieu, daughter of Lord Lucien Wardieu, Baron de Gournay, (called the Black Wolf), is the book's heroine. Lovely, but not ladylike, Brenna has tagged after her warrior brothers since she could crawl. With much tutoring and practice she has become a master of the longbow, rivaling the best archers in the land. Feisty, with the heart of a noble knight in her woman's breast, she meets her match in Griffyn Renaud de Verdel, a mysterious mercenary who unknowingly trespasses on her father's land. Taken aback by her skill with the bow and arrow, Griffyn could have still overpowered Brenna. He allows her, instead, to capture him and bring him to face her family. She discovers that Griffyn and her brother Robin have already met. The two men jousted in the past at a tourney. Griffyn lost - the only loss he had sustained in many years. The consequences were tragic. He is intent on a rematch at the great upcoming tournament in Chateau Gaillard, Normandy.
This wonderful adventure begins long before the treachery at the French tournament. There are fascinating plots and subplots, filled with meticulously researched historical detail and peopled with extraordinary characters. England's troubled times and her evil king are woven into the story with great skill, as is a unique version of the Robin Hood tale. Political intrigue, hatred, revenge and fated love abound. Family sins and throne-rocking secrets are exposed. Royal power is unleashed. Some pretty unsavory, depraved characters murder, maim and threaten. Love and passion sizzle. Armored knights ride to battle and a royal princess is rescued. This novel has it all - from cliff-hanging escapades to steamy sensuality. The action doesn't stop until the last sentence on the last page.
As usual Ms. Canham writes with elegance and flair. Her characters are lifelike, varied and, occasionally, quite humorous. This wonderful book is definitely a keeper!
JANA
One of my favorite stories of all time.......2003-08-03
When she captures a trespasser on her father's lands, Lady Brenna Wardieu knows that Griffyn Renaud cannot be trusted despite the fact that he turns out to be an acquaintance of her brother, Robin. And she is right. Griffyn has been hired to challenge Robin in an upcoming tournament and kill him. His only obstacle is Brenna who is determined to find out the truth about him. He is also very attracted to the Lady Brenna and it's becoming harder and harder to go about destroying her brother. There is a lot more to this story, but it's too complicated to go into without ruining the story.
The Last Arrow is an engrossing read that keeps you guessing until the end. Not only is there a great romantic conflict, but there is also a lot of action, a truly evil villain and some great secondary characters. While The Last Arrow can stand on it's own, I really recommend that you read it in context with the series: Through A Dark Mist, In The Shadow Of Midnight, and The Last Arrow. If you like Medeival Romance, I can't recommend these stories enough.

Book Description
Fossil Hunter is hard SF in the tradition of Larry Niven about a world inhabited by the Quintaglios, a dinosaurian species that has evolved a human level of intelligence and culture.Toroca, a Quintaglio geologist, is under attack for his controversial new theory of evolution. But the origins of his people turn out to be more complex than even he imagined, for he soon discovers the wreckage of an ancient starship -- a relic of the aliens who transplanted Earth's dinosaurs to this solar system. Now, Toroca must convince Emperor Dybo that evolution is true; otherwise, the territorial violence the Quintaglios inherited from their tyrannosaur ancestors will destroy the last survivors of Earth's prehistoric past.

Tastes just like chicken; to me (You'll understand when you read the book)........2007-04-29
Fossil-Hunter
Fossil-Hunter is the second book of Sawyer's Quitaglio Ascension. Sawyer brings back the fascination to Science Fiction that I haven't experienced since I was a young teenage boy reading Norton and Heinlein.
In Fossil-Hunter Sawyer borrows elements from real History to add bits and pieces to his characterizations. In this one he borrows bits and pieces from Shackleton's Antarctic exploration, a little Charles Darwin, a blind Sherlock Holmes (I realize that Holmes was fictional), and a little David and Goliath and even a little Rocky Balboa ( another fictional character). This time the characters include not only Afsan, but also, his children, Toroca,et al.
In this book, Sawyer introduces the Watcher, a character that is even more important in his book Calculating God.
Next comes Foreigner, Oh, Joy.
I strongly recommend this book and am looking forward to the next one. Can you tell?
I immediately orderred "Iterations" to see what Sawyer's Short Stories are like. You might want to,too. This guy is good!
Fascinating concepts.......2007-04-24
I never dreamt that I would read a book about intelligent dinosaurs and not only enjoy it but find it thought provoking. Robert Sawyer certainly is the best science fiction writer today. Though I often don't agree with his ideas, the concepts are compelling and make you think. Sort of like Juan Rico in Starship Troopers who said his History and Moral Philosophy professor in high school had discussions that would wake you up in the middle of the night and make you think: What did he mean by that?
The problems of leadership and acceptance of differnt ideas are central to the Fossil Hunter. Sometimes you can avoid death by standing still after studying the enemy. It is a terrific set up to the conclusion of trhe series. I highly recommend the entire Quintaglio series.
An admirable continuation........2006-06-03
I love Sawyer's novels, if only because they are precisely what I've tried to write in my own novels. This one could have done without one particular point of view in the story, but otherwise is a very entertaining read, and a good follow-up to Far Seer. I am not a fan of generational fantasy, in which the children from one book or series are the stars of the next, generally because the authors often fail to make the children into adults, out of fear of making their adult heroes into old people. Sawyer doesn't indulge that fear in this novel-- Fossil Hunter is about the son of Far Seer's hero, but he's a grown person, and a fully realized character, while his father, though appearing in the book as a major character, is not the physically puissant hero he used to be.
Excellent installment.......2005-06-18
Although not as emotional gripping as the first one. Fossil Hunter does well and holds its own capitived moments. Its a defent must to read the first novel Far-Seer. If you enjoyed the first one you'll enjory this one as well.

Canned Food Gourmet: The Pig-Campers Cookbook.......2000-06-10
Truth: couldn't find one single recipe worth copying before shipping the book back. Do you never really drift off into the wilderness beyond the point where your wide bottom is planted on the picnic table in plain view of your SUV? This is the book for you, and thanks. Wished I had not had to give this book the obligatory one star. On the other hand, it should work well to keep all readers out of the wilds and near the road. A blessing in disguise.
THE bible for outdoor cooking.......2000-06-04
I've had this book for several years. While preparing for an extended car camping trip, I pulled it out again and was once again amazed at the breadth of recipes. There are recipes, variations of recipes, ideas for recipes, tips, hints, "chef's secrets"--her wealth of ideas is practically awe-inspiring. It's a terrific book just for leafing through and getting ideas. At home, I strive for fresh ingredients and creative cooking; while camping, ease of preparation and ease of clean-up are my primary rules. There are recipes in this book that meet each of those situations, and more than a few that meet both. Sure, there are a few I'll never use (even while camping I can't quite bring myself to eat Spam), but overall there's no better resource. I've bought several other camping cookbooks recently, but this one retains its spot as my most treasured camping cookbook.
Buy It.......1999-06-08
Not only are these great recipes for camping, they're great quick recipes at home.
In addition to "one burner" meals, there are also good recipes for dutch oven cooking, preserved food (pemmican, jerky, trail mix), and make-aheads (cook before going).
This one sets the standard for Backpacking Meal planners.......1999-02-08
This is the one reference book I've read and re-read. I played around with the receipts. It has established a pattern for meal planning which has resulted in making both backpacking, and canoe trips more enjoyable. If you can only afford one book consider this to be the best buy.
Customer Reviews:
Lots of good recipes in here.......2001-05-19
I found this book very good. One of the best recipes is the pizza. It may be hard to believe you can make GOOD pizza in the bush, but I have cooked it numerous times for my family, and they ask for it everytime we camp out. The dessert recipes have been good as well. This is a good book for someone like me that is just learning how to cook good food out of what you carry on your back.
Where is the beef?.......2000-08-23
Was highly disapointed after reading the recipes in Backpacker Magazine and then not finding them, nor similar items in the book. I was impressed with and interested in hardtack and corn dodgers, which neither one appears in the book. Also, a more complete title of the book includes "Gourmet Cuisine", had I known that at the time I probably would not have orderd it. I just want to get by with the basics and do not care about a five star meal. I eat to live , not live to eat. James

Ms. Clough earns an A++ from this teacher!.......2002-01-18
This book is for glass artists who are looking for something extraordinary and beautiful. I love the whimsy and the elegance of these patterns. They may be challenging, but if you are a beginner one of these patterns may be just the inspiration you need to stretch your talent to new levels. Thank you Ms. Clough for giving us something new and different!
Nice, but impossible to cut!.......2001-06-07
Lots of very beautiful patterns (that's why I bought it in the first place) but I never made any patterns from it. Why not, you ask? Though I have done many projects requiring tons of grinding with the 1/4" bit, or over 1400 pieces, the fact is, it's just too discouraging to do.
Way too many pieces are uncuttable and require fine carving, and there is no color chart so you don't know whether pieces belong to flower, leaf or sky. You can't even guess!
Stained Glass Pattern Review.......2000-05-30
I am a beginner in stained glass and I would say that this pattern book is for at least intermediates. These are rather complicated patterns suitable for larger flat panels. There were few color pictures and even those were small.

Customer Reviews:
The ideas are good, but the taste is bad.......2007-01-22
Like the last reviewer, I favor a more modern pared-down aesthetic than most of the examples in this book. However, I realize that most people have a hard time living so minimally. For those of you with kids, or a lot of stuff, or expansive collections - you may want to check out this book. Unlike the majority of books in this genre, whose only real suggestion seems to be "hide your stuff behind massive built-in storage," Buchholz gives some creative ideas on how to display your possessions creatively and cohesively. The majority of the apartments in this book pack A LOT of stuff and some OVER-THE-TOP design into some relatively small spaces. Even more impressive is that they do it successfully.
The book focuses on four basic apartment types - small studios and pied-a-terres, lofts, family-size apartments, and large spaces - and offers design advice for each. However, some of the principles can be applied to any size apartment. The one that I think deserves the greatest emphasis is to maintain a cohesive design element throughout the space. Each room or space can have it's own look, but a recurring color, texture/material, shape, or theme will make the apartment feel whole.
As someone who lives in a rather small space, I was looking for ideas on how get a lot out of (or rather, a lot into) a little area. Some of the suggestions are nothing new, but some offered unexpected insights. Here are some of the easiest suggestions from the book:
*Look for multi-use furniture (side tables that double as extra seating, day-beds that double as a couch)
*Use rooms for more than one purpose (a well-lit dining room with bookshelves along one wall can double as a study, for reading and work)
*Make a small space seem larger by emphasizing height (hang shelves, art, and drapes high on the wall)
great concepts behind the photos.........2002-10-24
At first glance, as someone who prefers open space to crowded rooms, the photographed apartments in this book appeared busy, and often gaudy. However, when I actually read it, I understood the subtle concepts behind the design choices. So while I would not personally chose to mix leopard print, neon pink, and baroque furniture in a small space, I understand what the owners were going for. (And I actually took a liking to that room. It has a lot of personality!) In the end, this book inspired me to rethink my entire living space! I am usually a visual person who prefers photo inspiration to text. But in this case, it was the little bits of writing and advice that sparked my creativity.
I'd recommend it to anyone with a sense of fun about their living space, or anyone willing to look a little deeper than the photos. :)
APARTMENT LIVING falls short of it's new design promises.......2001-12-02
I've lived in apartments for the last decade. Always on the lookout for books that guide oneself to small home perfection, I bought this book in hopes of learning something new.
A collector of mid century modern furniture, the cover caught my eye. Hmmm, a hip looking couple with even cooler looking furniture. Why not? Flipping through, I noticed the book had delightful pictures nicely detailing wishful scenarios. What it lacked, I later found was serious content. Apartment Living promised new designs for urban living yet failed to deliver anything NEW.
The book takes the reader through different kinds of apartment spaces: pieds-a-terre, empty nester retreats, lofts, larger apartments and then offers solutions for apartment living (making the most of your small space). The promise to transform your dull home into a chic living space is not realizable for most living with a reasonable budget. The solutions offered were recycled from the best books of the past.
Apartment Living: New Designs for Urban Living is really more a look book than anything else. You look a few times and then forget about it.
Try again.......2000-10-26
There's not much I can say about this book. I did not approve of the design style (think contemporary meets traditional), so this may be a book for those who like that style. The text is far from inspiring. Let's just say I expected something completly different. Try again rockport publishing.
suprisingly large examples of small spaces.......2000-09-27
i would recommend this book to anyone interested in contemporary interior design, storage ideas or just small living space inspiration. unlike many of the modern "style guides" on the market, this book shows real livable spaces, full of peoples junk and shows that it can work for you, not against you. i would have liked to have seen some floor plans, actual details of how big these small apartments were, i also found much of the examples a little bit crowded though i am speaking as a john pawson admirer so im biased towards minimalism, yet despite that i found the presentation of the apartments and the wide range of examples given (such as how to fit a whole family into two bedrooms and still have floor space) very useful and very clearly written and stylishly presented.if you want something smaller on smaller spaces there is a series called stylish ideas that has a book on small living spaces. i was also suprised at how large this book on small living spaces was. overall a lovely reference and point of inspiration.

Book Description
Lofts, by definition, are former commercial spaces that have been converted for residential use and living/work environments. But lofts, by design, are vast silent expanses, soaring arches, stalwart steel girders, massive beams, and all the powerful drama of a curtain-time stage set. Lofts are a designer's dream. The importance of urban loft design for the architectural and design world is highlighted in this collection of the finest, most dramatic of these transformed spaces. Lofts: New Designs for Urban Living takes you on an intimate tour of residential lofts in the major cities of the world including New York, Los Angeles, Sydney, London, Toronto, Paris, and Tokyo. Projects include work from cutting-edge designers: Roto, Fred Fisher, Peter Anders, Neil Frankel, Briggs/Iacucci, Peter Tow, Kar Ho, Moneo/Brock, Belmont Freeman, Lotek, Brayton & Hughes and more. Complete with informative text, Lofts features full-color photographs, plans, and a valuable resource guide for anyone who has every dreamed of converting a commercial building into a residential loft.
Customer Reviews:
Rather excellent.......2001-03-11
I have only really studied 3 loft books and this would be my second favorite.
The author looks at Manhattan lofts exclusively for one half of the book and uses the other half for projects all over the world. All in all, her selection is good in that the reader gets a fair sense of what is currently happening in the design of these spaces (lofts). You usually get about 3-4 color photos per loft, a short description and floor plan.
Overall, a great book and source of inspiration if you find yourself with an abandoned, urban space and about a million dollars.
Nothing new here.......2000-10-26
The good thing about this book is that it does show pictures of lofts....that's about it. It showcased some lofts that have been pictured in other books before, and the picture quality is not always the best(at times the photographs look as though they were taken twenty years ago or with bad film). I usually read my design books but after about halfway through, I just looked at the pictures. Save your money for something else.
Lofts New Designs for Urban Living.......2000-03-14
I bought this book on the strong recommendation of the other reviewers and was disappointed. I have bought 8 books on the subject of lofts and this is my least favorate. The photos are generic architect shots, the layout bland and the printing is flat and sometimes fuzzy, and just unappealing.
Check out Living in Space and the International Book of Lofts.
I have to wonder if the other reviewers are friends of the author...
(Just my opinion, your milage may vary...)

well worth the money.......2000-01-09
the author, Felicia Eisenberg Molnar, mirrors the clean minimalist sense of design in some the photographed loft spaces in her text. ms. molnar's words explain the realized mission of architect, designer, and client devoid of the fuzziness and fussiness of many books on interior design. the reader is walked and talked through converted industrial spaces and shown how they have been transformed for the humans fortunate to inhabit them.
