Beth Lisick's writing is massively hilarious and verrrrry entertaining... you want something deep and meaningful go read War and Peace but if you want to lie down on the sofa and spend a weekend laughing so hard you fall off the sofa then buy this book - she's a great storyteller and turns a phrase like no one else.

The only problem with Beth's writing is that there isn't nearly enough of it. With clever turns of phrase, laser-accurate (and sometimes scathing) insight, Lisick makes you laugh *and* makes you think. A sardonic savant and master of wit, Lisick is a modern-day Dorothy Parker. (And she's really cute, too).

Don't let the three stars keep you from reading this book; I think I am a little cheaper with my ratings. Book two was an improvement over the first book in my opinion and is a nice story of the romance between the illegitimate son of Tom McBride and an Indian girl. Chase is a Texas Ranger who has been summoned back to the ranch in Sidewinder like the other legitimate offspring.
The romance and action with Faith and Chase was sweet and I loved the way Tuner and Callie accepted them into the family.
As always the evil step mom figures into the story, but we can only hope that she gets her just deserts or has to bake cookies for all of the grandkids by the end of the series! She is a character that you love to hate.
Bobbi Smith had not been one of my top authors, but surprised me with a nice piece of work.

And my review:
I just don't understand all the rave (five-star) reviews on this book. I thought that it was just okay. Nothing outstanding, it was just average. Certainly nothing to rave about. In the world of historical romance, this was just another typical, run-of-the-mill book.
For one thing, though this book is almost 400 pages, it's only because the print it huge. I almost thought I'd bought a large-print book by mistake, that's how big the type is. So it's more like a 250 page book, rather than a 400 page one. And it reads like it. I thought that the character development was rather minimal. She's a strong, yet innocent woman. He's a wounded, yet honorable man. That's about it. The reader doesn't get any more insight into the characters than that. They don't grow, change or "arc" as the story progresses.
I also felt that the writing style was rather juvenile. It was like reading a young adult novel, written at approximately a grade 9 reading level, rather than reading a book for grown women. If you're looking for a very simple read, then you might like this. If you want something that doesn't feel "dumbed down", you might be a little dissapointed. Not that I expect authors to always use huge, obscure words to impress me (in fact, I've complained about that before), but I want to feel like I'm reading a book that's at my level.
I was just never able to get invested in the characters. This was a story that was fine while you read it, but it's by no means a "can't-put-it-down" read. And it's one that's pretty much forgotten as soon as it's over. This is one that fans of Cassie Edwards, Madeline Baker, and Elaine Barbieri will probably like, as it's in much the same style as their writing. If you're not fans of those authors (I'm not), then you might be disappointed.

I have found this concept fabulous. How these 4 authors can keep one so facinated in a series that is written by 4 different authors was something I found very interesting. This is the first series that I read by them, however, I followed up quickly with the Half-Moon Series that I enjoyed just as much. My only hope is that they keep them coming within this concept as well as their independently written books. Great job ... I can't imagine anyone being disappointed. These books interest those in their 20's, 30's, 50's and 60's ... I know as my great niece, my daughter, my sister and myself have enjoyed each one of them from beginning to end!
Chase! The Half Breed!.......2006-11-06
Wonderful book. Chase is the [...] child of Tom McBride. He recieves a letter to return to the ranch, his father is dying and want all his children there.
Chase is a Texas Ranger and is working on an assignment at the same time of going and seeing his father. Chase meets up with Faith after she is captured by indians and she escapes, Chase protects her. He then has to meet his brother Tanner and his wife Callie. The book is very good, I enjoyed it alot more than the first one.

This was my favorite of the series so far. I'm still waiting for the 4th installment to arrive. My only complaint was the author's fondness for corny lines like "love's age old rhythm" "love's age-old embrace" "love's ultimate pleasure". But it didn't bother me enough give it a lower rating-or to keep me from reading it more than once. I fell in love w/Chase and Faith. He is the perfect romance novel hero. And she is strong and smart. I also loved the fact that the heroine wasn't almost raped or killed in every chapter. She faces danger but she rescues herself. She doesn't just wait around for Chase to come to her rescue. An all around good read.

These great stories..........2002-06-12
...convinced me that horror fiction wasn't just a "slum" genre, that it was in fact home to some of the best writing ever set to paper. Elisabeth Engstrom's "When Darkness Loves Us" changed my perception of the short story. In just a few pages she makes a more profound impact on the emotions of the reader than most 500-page novels. This book is a startling demonstration of craft and fine storytelling.

too much like a textbook.......2006-08-06
Jonathan and Jennifer have stumbled onto something vital, and have stated it with more precision than almost anyone else I've read--the church today is sick and needs to return to the only One who can heal it.
Turned off from the hierarchical and organizational aspects of Christianity, the authors have returned to a more organic and personal way of following Jesus. I agreed with their premises and conclusions, but was left still wondering what it would look like in reality to worship God the way they suggest.
Combined with the academic feel of the writing will make this book more appropriate for seminary classes than (what I assume is) the target audience of people discouraged by church as it is and wanting a more vibrant and personal relationship with God.
Don't "Do Church" Without Reading This One!.......2006-06-28
I just finished reading this book and it ranks high on my list as one of the best reads ever on the subject of what it means to be the church and Christ followers in a changing culture. Awesome! And I've read many books over the last few years on the topic of faith and the church in the midst of an emerging, postmoden cullture. I've also been an avid student for anything related to house/simple churches for a dozen years or so. The Campbells do a wonderful job resisting the temptation of arguing forms, and pay more attention to what it means to be a follower of Jesus in the present that opens the way to transformation and kingdom living.

I recently met Jonathan Campbell in South Africa. He opened up a whole new world to many of us. "The Way of Jesus" has been incredibly refreshing to me. I have read numerous books on simple church and in this book Jonathan and Jennifer have been able to communicate in an experiential, nonanalytical way that is my kind of language. Frightening at times but extremely encouraging I have seen my own journey numerous times in its pages. This book has helped me to better understand where I've been, where I am at, and, generally at least, where I am going. It is a must read for anyone who is longing for more Jesus. Thanks Campbells!

The recipes are OK, I purchased it from Amazon because Crate and Barrel had it at one time so I thought it would be a good book since I have enjoyed Crate's books in the past. However, this one was a lot smaller than expected and the recipes were just OK. I always say if you can get one or two good recipes then you should get the book because a good recipe is hard to come by, which you can with this book. So if you are looking for just that then this book will be a perfect buy.
Not to the traditional English taste.......2006-02-23
We bought this after purchasing a George Foreman electric grill. The recipe book with the Grill does not provide much in the way of basic methods and recipes, and we were looking for something more expansive and fundamental. It did not mention bacon for instance. The Ridgaway book however is very American and does not consider a more traditional English taste. We have found it therefore rather unhelpful and probably a waste of money. We are both pensioners. Is there anything for pensioners of Old England?

This is an OK book, but the title is somewhat misleading to the casual reader. This book deals very specificly with the "Directional Designs" line produced by Paul McCobb - not all of Paul McCobb's "Fifties Furniture"
If you are looking for information on the Paul McCobb Planner Group, as I was, you are not going to find it in this book.
Apart from that, it has some great pictures of some very high-end furniture.

Found this very hasty in some sections---lazy writing and editing in one place (pages 148-171). They just reprinted an old Stow and Davis office furniture catalog without giving values though they advertise on the cover that they will give values. This is not the first Schiffer book that has done this kind of cheap content padding. I would not buy another Schiffer Book, in fact, without really checking it out for padding. Also glaring omissions in content. The chair section has not one mention of the Wassily chair by Breuer/Knoll. Save your money and try another book.

Not deep enough or broad enough.......2003-02-21
I recieved this book as part of a start up kit on batik. The billing on the book was that it was a good how-to on the batik process. I found it to be remarkably lacking. There was no advice as to how to deal with the more common problems mentioned in the process, and the process, itself was extremely lacking. There were a lot of pretty pictures of batik work from a modern standpoint - but they did not fit in well with the subject matter and seemed more like a "look what I did". There were very few pictures, for example, of the various steps of the process while the artist was in action.
I suppose at this low cost, you get what you pay for.

Engaging Book Is Nearly As Fun As The Era It Celebrates.......2003-07-04
While working at the Nevele Country Club, one of the many legendary Catskill resorts covered in this magnificent document, I briefly met Myrna and Harvey Frommer while doing their research. They probably don't remember me, I was too young at the time to offer the kind of history they were looking for, but the pair's enthusiasm and obvious love for the area's resorts and their unique (now long gone) familial atmosphere was readily apparent. When I finally got to read this book, it provided me with a sense of pride for being a part of its history. There's even an ancient picture of my father playing sax in the old Art Kahn Orchestra! But aside from personal connections, this book stands as a definitive oral history of an era. The people interviewed are true insiders, some of them legends in their own right among Catskill lore. And while the book provides some deep sociological perspective concerning its ethnic background, the authors know how to balance this with charming, amazing and often sidesplitting anecdotes. If you ever spent a weekend at Grossinger's, The Concord, The Nevele or one of the dozens of small bungalow colonies, this book will wash you in warm memories. And if you didn't have the chance, it will make you wish you did.
