Book Description
Medea Georgievna Sinoply Mendez is an iconic figure in her Crimean village, the last remaining pure-blooded Greek in a family that has lived on that coast for centuries. Childless Medea is the touchstone of a large family, which gathers each spring and summer at her home. There are her nieces (sexy Nike and shy Masha), her nephew Georgii (who shares Medea’s devotion to the Crimea), and their friends. In this single summer, the languor of love will permeate the Crimean air, hearts will be broken, and old memories will float to consciousness, allowing us to experience not only the shifting currents of erotic attraction and competition, but also the dramatic saga of this family amid the forces of dislocation, war, and upheaval of twentieth-century Russian life.

A Real Book Again.......2005-03-11
I can't belive I am the first person to review this book. It was one of the best I have read in a long time and I read a lot of books. This book is all about the characters and their relationships to each other. It is also a great lesson in Soviet life through much of that period. If you want quick pacing or action this is not for you. If you want a story about people you actually care about this is for you.

Book Description
She's got issues with the Christmas issue
B.J. Carlyle -- editor of Alpha, the ultimate men's magazine -- grew up amid hot tubs and hot women at the infamous mansion of her father, L.T. Carlyle, the magazine's publisher. Now she's out to prove to L.T. that she's got what it takes to become editor-in-chief -- even if it means swallowing her pride and getting Buck Bravo for December's cover story.
Landing the bestselling author, adventurer and man-of-the-hour is a coup; the competition would kill to get the exclusive. But she and Buck were in love once, and it ended badly. They haven't seen each other since -- except for a recent one-night stand. Now Buck's insisting B.J. spend the next two weeks with him in the Sierra Mountains and write the story herself. B.J. agrees, but she's not going to tell Buck she suspects she's pregnant with his baby.
B.J.'s out to get the story.
She doesn't need Buck thinking she's out to get her man.
Customer Reviews:
Unwrap another fun episode in the Bravo family saga!.......2007-02-23
B. J. Carlyle works as a features editor of Alpha magazine. With her father as the publisher as well as editor-in-chief, B. J. works very hard to prove herself to prepare for when L.T. finally hands the editor-in-chief position over to her. Only now, she's single, pregnant, and the December cover story has fallen apart.
Buck Bravo is a man on a mission. Getting B. J. back in his life is one of his top priorities. He'd messed up their relationship six years earlier and now wants her back. With Alpha's cover story falling through, Buck sees his opportunity and latches on, he'll agree to be the cover story, but only if B. J. has to spend two weeks with him and write the story herself.
Already suffering from morning sickness, B. J. drags herself out of bed and to the office only to be besieged with bad news. Her latest ex-boyfriend, Wyatt, wrote a story that's been published in a competing magazine titled "Manhattan Man-Eater. That he is referring to her in the article is blatantly obvious. Alpha's planned cover story has been called off, and nobody can come up with a good story for the December issue. Her father, L. T. has a cover story idea, but he chooses to keep it to himself until that evening and invites B. J. to supper, promising to reveal his big cover story idea. B. J. arrives for supper expecting her father and his latest Alpha girl, she wasn't prepared for the shock of Buck's presence or having L. T.'s big surprise story is her ex, Buck. Buck is a very popular man. He's a best-selling author, and one of the many illegitimate children of his notorious father, Blake Bravo. Having Buck for a cover story is practically guaranteed to sell papers. That doesn't mean B. J. wants to spend any more time in his presence that absolutely necessary. B. J. needs this story though, so she agrees to write the story and finds herself heading to New Bethlehem Flat, California with Buck and a photographer. Buck doesn't know about the baby yet, and B. J. has every intention of telling him about his impending fatherhood - just not right now. B. J. just needs to figure out how to keep him from noticing her morning nausea and finding out about the baby before she's ready to tell him.
Christine Rimmer's BRAVO series contains characters that are always strong willed and determined with personalities that shine through the pages, and BRAVO UNWRAPPED is no exception. This story is full of quirky characters, interesting settings - both New York and California, Bravo family history, lots of fighting, and even more loving. B. J. and Buck have a past history that left them both hurting. B. J.'s convinced that she's just no good at romantic relationships. Buck is out to prove that she's everything he could want in a woman.

entertaining contemporary romance .......2005-12-15
Alpha magazine features editor B.J. Carlyle is stunned when she finds out they no longer have the Christmas cover story as the popular Wise Brothers broke up. Meanwhile their competitor TopMale prints an unflattering article about her being a Manhattan man-eater. Her father, who owns Alpha, tells her he has the answer to her problems of lacking the feature article, a bio on writer Buck Bravo the man she fears to love and by the way is carrying his baby though no one knows this.
Though capable of authoring a bio, Buck insists that B.J. write the article by spending two weeks on his family property, the Sierra Star B&B. His agenda is simple; he made an error six years ago when he failed to follow up once a frightened B.J. rejected his proposal. When she caught with someone else soon afterward he knew he destroyed his life. When he finally coaxed her back in his bed two months ago, Buck regained hope, but now he has to persuade his beloved he will remain faithful, loyal, and loving forever.
BRAVO UNWRAPPED is an entertaining contemporary romance starring a likable hero and a woman who fears commitment. Buck believes that he needs to take charge of the situation if he is to persuade his beloved they belong together that is before he knows she is pregnant. Thus he forces her onto his home field where she can see how much he loves his mother and siblings. Still he realizes the key remains bucking her belief that he will cheat on her and that she owes her father by proving her worth to him. Though the obstinacy of B.J. can become wearying, readers and her father will root for Buck to succeed
Harriet Klausner
Does B.J. really want Buck?.......2005-12-13
After all these years she has to meet Buck Bravo again and end up in his bed IT must have been all those Manhattans. To top it all off she's pregnant now and so sick!
B.J. Carlyle is the features editor on her father's Mens magazine *Alpha*. The planned feature has fallen through -- the musical group has brokeup! L.T. Carlyle demands she come to dinner after learning of this. B.J. is still sick even though it's evening. L.T. has the perfect new feature for her -- Buck Bravo the best-selling author.
Buck insists that she come to his home town with thim. L.T. sends them in his jet to Reno, NV then they drive west to New Bethlehem Flat, CA it's only an hour's drive but what a different world!
Buck's mother, Chastity, is the owner of the town's Bed & Breakfast -- Sierra Star. Buck wants to show B.J. where he came from and what made him be what he is. It's a small town Buck's friends and family open their arms to B.J. and slowly she's seduced by Buck but she can't tell him about the baby.
They get called back to NYC and B.J. must make some decisions before she can go to Buck with an open heart.
Buck, B.J. and her father L.T. Carlyle are just a little larger than life but with Ms Rimmer's style she makes them fun and loveable.
Very entertaining Signature Select from Harlequin. Bonus features and interview with Ms Rimmer and lots of Bravo history along with a sneak peek of the next Bravo SSE -- BRAVO FAMILY WAY.

Book Description
Joan D. Vinge returns to Tiamat, the world of her Hugo Award-winning novel The Snow Queen and its bestselling sequel The Summer Queen...Set during the time of The Snow Queen, BZ Gundhalinu is a by-the-book "Blue" on the trail of high corruption within the force. When a police raid goes horribly awry, BZ finds himself teamed up with Nyx LaisTree, a hard-nosed cop with no respect for the rules, and Devony Seaward, a beautiful hooker with a heart of gold. Together these three must fight the corruption of Tiamat and try to expose it before they all end up dead. This novel marks the exciting return to the much-loved Snow Queen Universe. While taking place during events in The Snow Queen, this novel is a stand-alone masterpiece of noir suspense--taking a story you think you know, and showing you just how deep and vast the waters really run.
Customer Reviews:
Not Free SF Reader.......2007-09-03
A departure from the epic length Queen books, this novel is also set on
Tiamat. BZ Gundhalinu features in what is basically a crime novel. The
city it is set in is where people come for their longevity drugs. A
young policeman is involved in a raid on an illegal technology store.
The Snow Queen wants the gear there, his police sergeant (a
character from the other books) thinks he is useless, and there is a
mysterious femme fatale type also making life more annoying.
A very dangerous mystery that at the end of it involves very high stakes.
LA Confidential on Tiamat.......2006-09-13
A quick read, geared toward those who've read the rest of the books in the series. A couple points that were left lingering in the other books were cleared up. The book doesn't have the depth of the Snow Queen, however. I also thought the plot was similar to the movie LA Confidential. Privileged officer paired up with a street cop from a blue collar background, the whole love story, and the corruption in the police department.
Tiamat's greatest hits..........2006-06-13
I really wish this fine lady of scifi had written more original stories, instead of retreading her old stories over and over again... this book is not bad, but it isn't anything too special.
This story finds us back on Tiamat, world of the Snow Queen, a Hugo award winning book that is much longer, but much more worth your time. The story is about Tree, a police officer who talks a lot like Cat from her Psion series. Other characters include old favorites like BZ, Jerusha, and Arienrhod the Snow Queen. The story involves a race between two factions of an ancient society called Survey (ala the Freemasons) trying to find an ancient artifact that those who have read Summer Queen will recognize. The main characters are all the Blues (cops) caught in the middle.
Herein lies the biggest problem. If you have read Summer Queen, another far superior book, you know what happens to the artifact. You know who gets a hold of it in the end, and you know for sure that BZ never learns anything useful about it because he knows absolutely nothing about it when he comes across its results in the future. So there isn't very much suspense here for Vinge fans.
Also, a lot of the characters are not very convincing. Tree's mannerisms are tried and true, but a little tired. And I am definitely tired of BZ "superhero" Gundhalinu, the detective/scientist/noble who seems capable of everything. Finally, just like Dreamfall, this book is plagued by a very lackluster and unconvincing love story.
This book is intriguing mostly as a "greatest hits" collection, as a chance to run into some of our favorite characters again, sans Moon and Spark. It's worth reading in an airport or on the beach or something, but it isn't a keeper like her other fine works. Read Snow Queen, Summer Queen, Catspaw, or even track down her awesome yet out of print "Eyes of Amber" collection, and waste your time with this fluffy confection if you get through those and still want more.
Slow going, too much foul language.......2005-10-24
Unlike her earlier books, this one was very easy to put down each night. It's much shorter but took me longer to read - a tell-tale sign that it's not very engaging.
I was also taken-aback at her fascination with the f-word in this book. I often pass a lot of my books to my children to read, but this one is going back to the library unread by my kids.
On a Vinge Kick...excellent addition.......2005-05-06
It was so wonderful to see another addition to the Classic "Snow Queen" Series from Joan D. Vinge. I was wholly impressed with this prequel story and a look at chararcters made famous by her.
BZ Gundhalinu, a fav of mine, starts to show some of the spark that made him so endearing to me through "The Snow Queen" and "Worlds End" and on into "The Summer Queen." It was nice to see some of the events that so affected his life and were alluded to in the later books.
I liked the new characters introduced as a foil for the story, and though I was not as attached to them as I was to poor tortured BZ, they kept my attention throughout the story.
It was nice to see Mundilfore again as well, as sinister and slippery as ever!
I was electrified by the "Artifact" that was the center of the story in this novel, and immediately recognized the signifcance of it for one Reede Kullervo! It was nice to see how the Sibyl net had allowed that to become "common" knowledge for the Golden Mean as well as for the Brotherhood!
Ms. Vinge another outstanding addition to your already impressive library...I can only hope my own books will be as well recieved!

Book Description
In Tangled Up in Red, White, and Blue, Christine Kelly examines the role that progressive social movements might play in the recovery and expansion of democracy and justice in the new millennium. Kelly simultaneously combines an analysis of several modernization theses with a unique sense of the way that the American ideological and institutional context has shaped progressive social movements, for better and worse, in our era. Kelly candidly confronts contemporary American radicalism from the perspective of a movement participant-included is a rare treatment of the 1980's student movement- but with an eye on the future. Tangled Up in Red, White, and Blue is a bold and sophisticated study combining the frequently divorced interests of political theory, institutional analysis and social movement studies-both European and American.

Crazy Gay Carnie Antics.......2004-02-16
"Tore Up the Pinky Lacy Story" is nearly unable to describe. Mr. Lacy writes in a broad style which is very humorous. His characters are a unique and odd assortment of alcoholic, drug addicted sex freaks. They all travel with a carnival and this story has to be read to be believed. If there were really a carnival like the one Mr. Lacy describes (in loving detail) I want to visit it! For a really wild look at the traveling carnival life this book cannot be beat. I laughed out loud!
