Book Description

When he was a boy, Aga Akbar, the deaf-mute illegitimate son of a Persian nobleman, traveled with his uncle to a cave on nearby Saffron Mountain. Once there, he was to copy a three-thousand-year-old cuneiform inscription—an order of the first king of Persia—as a means of freeing himself from his emotional confinement. For the remainder of his life, Aga Akbar used these cuneiform characters to fill a notebook with writings only he could understand. Years later, his son, Ishmael—a political dissident in exile—is attempting to translate the notebook . . . and in the process tells his father's story, his own, and the story of twentieth-century Iran.

A stunning and ambitious novel by a singular literary talent, My Father's Notebook is at once a masterful chronicle of a culture's troubled voyage into modernity and the poignant, timeless tale of a son's enduring love.

5 out of 5 stars Appealing characters, accessible history--try it!.......2007-06-11

A slightly mysterious tale, due to the father's limited ability to communicate, which seems a great symbol for the "disconnects" that must crop up between generations in tumultuous eras/places. Even though the book doesn't really get inside the head of the main character (the father), you still develop an enormous amount of sympathy and admiration for him. Would be a great book club read, with plenty to discuss.

A good book for those interested in foreign literature from this part of the world, but who thought the Kite Runner too contrived and violent, and find Orhan Pamuk a little hard to follow. (I haven't read much Iranian literature in translation, so can't put it in any context there.)

PS I bought this book on my way to Amsterdam, and while very little of the story takes place in the Netherlands, it made for an interesting connection. I wouldn't mind reading more by this author about the immigrant experience in that country....

Elizabeth Sinclair tackles tough subjects in this romantic fantasy, and doesn't pull back on the emotional impact of dealing with terminal illness or its effects. I loved this book for its honesty and its hope. And I hope the author does more books in this amazing village!

    5 out of 5 stars A wonderful, magical tale!.......2006-02-17

I hope Ms. Sinclair publishes a sequel to this story. Few books hold me as this one did. This story is about faith, hope, and redemption, and a happy-ending romance, too. I strongly recommend it.

5 out of 5 stars engaging romantic fantasy .......2006-02-01

At St. Francis Hospital in NYC pediatric oncologist Dr. Steve Cameron usually buries his feelings towards his terminally ill young patients. However, thirteen years old Ellie Stanton has reached deeper than anyone has ever before her when she whispers Merry Christmas, gives him a present, and thanks him for giving her love. Suffering from battle fatigue syndrome Steve goes on hiatus seeking a miracle, but Ellie died anyway.

Six years later in Central Park, Irma the bag lady tells Steve to go to a cabin in Hudson Highlands near Tarrytown, New York to find what he seeks as she insists she found her miracle there. One look at her and Steve figures what a poor miracle, but he needs to get away to ponder his future so this remote spot is as good as any. The cabin is a portal to Renaissance, a village where those with crushed souls mend. Steve meets Meghan Peece and they fall in love. However his juvenile patients need him; while she fears leaving her village because she will not remember her beloved once Renaissance vanishes into the mists during the Transition.

Elizabeth Sinclair brings Brigadoon with a pinch of Shangri-La into the twenty-first century in an engaging romantic fantasy that has an underlying tone of sadness involving children with terminal illness. The story line focuses on how people cope with tragedy especially when bad things happen to good people. Readers will commiserate with Steve as he struggles to cope with seeing his charges die while Meghan has deep rooted fears of leaving beyond losing her memory of the village and her soulmate that will touch the audience. The support cast augments this fine tale that readers will appreciate.

If you're a fan of these books than you have to read The Trolley to Yesterday. It is one of the best of the Johnny Dixon books.
I read these books when I was in elementary and middle school. Sometimes I even go back and reread this one to just remember. This is a great series for young readers.
I loved it and I think you will too.

5 out of 5 stars A great read from one of my favorite childhood authors!.......2006-06-27

I am in the process of collecting all of John Bellairs books because I loved them so much when I was younger. I just finished reading this one as I added it to my collection and I was reminded of how great of an author John Bellairs was. I think every child should give his books a chance because I'm sure they will get hooked on reading for life!

    4 out of 5 stars Very Good.......2004-06-23

"The Trolley to Yesturday" was very well done but once the plot starts to develop and they trapped in 1453 everything that can go wrong seems to go wrong. They are very smart characters and pass many tests but sometimes seem to lack a little common sence. I could be wrong but either way this book is still very enjoyable. Although it is not really one of those books that you can NEVER put down it still offers very much. Once again Bellairs writes another good book.

5 out of 5 stars Bellairs' most ambitious novel........2004-01-21

Well, Johnny, Fergie, and the Prof are back at it again. Only this time their adventure lies on another continent, in another century.

This is John Bellairs at his absolute peak of creative ability. The cast of characters ranges from an amusing, tongue-in-cheek ancient Egyptian god (in the form of a floating bird statue of course), and an inventor who's harebrained schemes rival that of the professor's, to the more frightening gothic images of medieval ghosts, and talking stone heads. The locations are more exotic than ever before. And the fact that the main characters find themselves in the middle of the Ottoman Turkish siege of Constantinople, lends itself to a great deal of drama almost by default.

True, Bellairs asks the reader to suspend their disbelief a little more than ususal, (I mean, how likely is time travel in an old trolley?) but the rewards are even greater than normal.

The most different, and also the best of the John Bellairs collection.

4 out of 5 stars Back through time.......2003-04-08

Time travel in fantasy is now such a cliche that it's a bit hard to write anything original about it. But John Bellairs managed. "Trolley to Yesterday" has a bunch of intriguing twists and unexpected events, and while it doesn't have as much supernatural content, it still is an enjoyable read.

Professor Childermass is acting even more oddly than usual, which is saying something. When Fergie and Johnny try to investigate his weird behavior (including sand on his carpet and talking to himself), they find the professor having a conversation with Brewster, a magical Egyptian statue. He admits his secret: Behind a bricked-up wall is a time-travelling trolley. And the boys hitch a ride when Childermass travels back in time to save the city of Constantinople from invasion.

The problem? They arrive a little too late, and the city is being overrun by Turkish soldiers. As they struggle to make their way back to the trolley and the safety of the future, they encounter the trolley's creator (who accidently got left behind during one of its previous excursions), a deranged monk, and a group of ghostly Crusaders. But then Johnny is poisoned, and the only cure means going back to Constantinople -- and back into danger.

Usually time travel books are full of cliches, and this one has a few, but you probably won't notice them. Kids who read this book may become interested in the Byzantine Empire -- while Bellairs doesn't present huge amounts of historical detail, he gives enough to be very, very interesting. (There's also a dash of Egyptian stuff too) There's adventure, humor and the odd way of getting around.

Johnny and Fergie remain the surprisingly courageous duo of previous books, the shy boy and his brasher, jokier pal. Professor Childermass is crusty, sometimes a bit irrational, but very lovable. And Brewster (a deity of Upper and Lower Egypt) really steals the show with his dry little comments. .

This book proably has one of the lowest amounts of supernatural stuff of Bellairs' books. Certainly it doesn't have much in the way of horror. But there is a great twist about halfway through, where our heroes are aided by a group of ghostly Crusaders, who are trying to make amends for sacking the city centuries before. I suppose Brewster technically counts as supernatural, and he provides a lot of the humor (such as translating a Turkish soldier's words as "Butter and eggs, and a pound of cheese!").

"Trolley To Yesterday" isn't Bellairs' best novel, but it is an intriguing and informative historical book that adults may enjoy as well, especially if they're Byzantine buffs. Good fun.

                Book Description

Here is the only book that explains fully in lay terms the grounds and procedures by which Roman Catholics who have undergone civil divorces can also have their former marriages annulled by the Church.

In the last decade alone, annulements in the United States have increased from 350 to over 30,000. At present, there are an estimated eight million divorced American Catholics, banned from full participation in the Church if the remarry without obtaining an annulment. Many of these people could obtain annulments -- yet, until the publication of Annulment, the lack of proper information and guidance has discouraged the majority of them.

This book makes available the rights of divorce Catholics under the Revised Code of Canon Law, which is now in effect. In everyday language, this authoritative handbook takes readers step by step through the process, defines the laws as they now exist, sorts through misconceptions and fears surrounding annulment procedures, dicusses the meaning and rationale behind the rules, lays out all the grounds (including the new psychological grounds), examines all factors (including costs), defines the various apporaches, and provides samples of the forms involved.

The author, a lawyer himself, consulted with canon lawyers, priests, and laypeople, -- some of whom have already used his manual with success.Annulment offers hope and solid help to the increasing number of people directly and indirectly affected by the divorce-remarriage-annulment problem. Zwack cuts cleanly through the Gordian knot of uncertainty to point the way for realistic, clear, effective solutions to this longstanding, anguished problem.

5 out of 5 stars Navigating the Complex Case for an Annulment.......2006-10-01

Annulment is a complex case of canon law that requires guidance. With the increase in requests, few Catholics have any proper counsel on just how to go about the process. A reference guide to the healing spiritual process of getting one more chance to get it right and marry in a Catholic Church.

1 out of 5 stars Expiration Date Passed!.......2001-08-10

This book is an excellent example of why food is not the only thing that should be marked with "sell by" dates. In 1983 when this book was written, the New Code of Canon Law of 1983 had just been promulgated. There was no background of interpretation of it. The author here had a clear road in that he could not be faulted for misinterpretation since no one yet knew what the authentic interpretation would be. The author is not a canon lawyer. He gives a civil attorney's perspective on Catholic Church annulments and that is very much like mixing apples and elephants. As both a civil and canon lawyer, I find his dicussion of the internal forum to be dangerous. He has no degree in theology and that would be a minimum for attempting to enter into that discussion at this level of assumed authority. He knows not of what he speaks. If you are looking for a book that will help you now through an annulment process, this is not the book for you to read. It can give you a historical perspective or thought on the process, but it is not what it entitles , a "step-by-step guide". This book should be taken off the shelves immediately.

                4 out of 5 stars Annulment Primmer.......2000-06-11

This is an excellent basic intorduction to the questions about the annulment process of the Roman Catholic Church. It touches all the bases in simple straight forward language. I think it should be read before reading any other material on the subject, some of which are a might too technical for the layperson.

5 out of 5 stars Cooking Light: The Lazy Gourmet.......2002-03-26

Turns out to be a great addition to my shelf of Cooking Light Cookbooks! I purchased The Lazy Gourmet a few weeks ago because of my positive experiences with this series (and the magazine) but I didn't expect it to be this good! I've previously been disappointed with some of those "six-ingredients-or less" type cookbooks because the recipes aren't *really* six ingredients--you have to add several more just to get some flavor, and/or they rely too heavily on convenience foods. But so far, The Lazy Gourmet has delivered on its promise, without sacrificing flavor or nutrition. These aren't "instant" recipes--they do (mostly) list more than six ingredients and they do take more time than slapping a chicken breast in a pan with prepared Teriyaki sauce--but we're talking gourmet here! You expect to cook a *little*! There is some use of mixes (low-fat brownie mix, for instance) but in my experience the convenience-foods in the recipes, like frozen hash browns (in a delicious portabella-mushroom & Asigo cheese brunch dish) or frozen mixed vegatables (in a pretty, savory, stuffed crookneck squash side dish)work well--and the completed recipes taste good, are low-fat, and look like they took a lot more time to prepare then they did! Try the awesome stuffed chicken-breast recipe, with a spinach and prepared low-fat pesto stuffing (and a coating of cornflakes) at your next dinner-party. It's delicious and looks great. After only a few weeks, I have gotten five stellar, entertaining-quality recipes out of it. That justifies the purchase price as far as I'm concerned.

                5 out of 5 stars doll book.......2007-06-28

Very helpful book - have really been enjoying this book as I have wanted this book for years, finally got it!

                1 out of 5 stars Very disappointing!.......2007-05-13

I bought this book to help me determine the value of a collection of high quality dolls that my aunt wants to help her sell. Our of five doll designers, only one of the designers was even listed in her book. This was a waste of my money, for sure!

                5 out of 5 stars Doll value.......2007-05-07

I am formilair with this book. It is a great book IF you know the name of your doll. If you don't it is not a good one for you.

5 out of 5 stars Blue Book Dolls and Values, 16th Edition (Blue Book Dolls and Values).......2006-07-17

THE resource for all your doll questions on values and dolls.

4 out of 5 stars Misses the mark in several categories.......2006-05-10

Although the Blue Book is the avid doll collectors' favorite price guide, it contains numerous categories that have not been updated for quite a number of years. China, parian, papier mache, and wooden, some of the earliest dolls in existence, have been gaining in popularity for several years now and the market prices, both at auction and online have been rising considerably. The Blue Book has not caught up with this trend.

Also, it would be extremely helpful if there were a comprehensive section that described the methods used in compiling the information as well as the sources of this information. Some of the prices are so far off the mark in actual market prices realized, that it makes the professional wonder if the numbers are merely picked out of blue sky.

The book is well structured and is the easiest to use on a daily basis, of all the price guides, however, serious updating and a description of the price compilation process, would improve it immensely.

In this first book of this bold new series from AQS, the author takes the fundamentals of hand quiltmaking, explains the process and the tools, and then answers your questions. Though the book concentrates on hand quilting, there are many tips and resources for the beginning machine quilter, as well. If you didn't have the chance to learn quiltmaking at your grandmother's knee, Hand Quilting is the perfect place to start. Rusty Hedrick is also known as Virginia Hedrick. AUTHORBIO: Always active in the quilting community and demonstrating quilting at quilt shows, Rusty is always willing to share her knowledge of the art. She says she is somewhat saddened at the predominant number of quilts now being hung in shows that are machine quilted. She recognizes that there is a great deal of talent in this method but hopes that the art of hand quilting remains an American tradition. REVIEW: If you didn't have the chance to learn quiltmaking at your grandmother's knee, this guide is the perfect place to start. Do you have questions about batting, backing fabrics, needles, thimbles, and the other tools? Rusty has the answers! In this first book of a bold new series, the author walks you through the fundamentals, process, and tools of hand quiltmaking.

A woman's belly becomes a mouth, protruding a tongue that becomes a shark. A toothy demon named Gropius manhandles a breast. Zoomorphic, liquescent distortions of naked human flesh. This is the world of J. K. Potter, whose eerie black-and-white photomontages have illustrated tales by H. P. Lovecraft, Clark Ashton Smith, Ramsey Campbell, Dennis Etchison and many other writers of the macabre. Neurotica is a gorgeous 128-page collection of the darkest of Potter's work, including several portraits of performance artist Lydia Lunch and a striking semi-nude/nude series of writer Poppy Z. Brite. Afterword by Potter describes his "low-tech garage artist" techniques.

Imaginative and captivating! J.K. Potter here has presented some of the best photo manipulations available. Some very nice darkroom and digital work. This book contains some of Potter's personal works as well as a nice selection of comercial work.

The book lay out is superb and photo comentaries humorous at times. The photos will reach out and grab you (Possibly ripping you limb from limb, but that is a bonus). You will either love this book or hate it.

This book is very interesting. I was not at pleased with it as I expected, though. The photographer is creative and portrays some very interesting situations. Most of the book is in black and white. Many of the pictures are entirely too strange for my tastes. They have often been warped a little too much, rendering the images too busy and, in some cases, unrecognizable. The pictures are fascinating, but do not purchase this book unless you intend to view extreme modifications to photographs.

When's the last time you ate a man... through your stomach? When's the last time you've seen an angel... in the nude? When's the last time you had a woman walk on your face... with her fingers? J.K. Potter has taken scenarios that are out of the ordinary and made them a helluva lot stranger and far far darker. Admired and posed for by Poppy Z. Brite, praised by Stephen King, Potter is the darkest entity in the art of photography, and it's all real, no computer editing, this is all darkroom work, which adds incredibly to the mystic of what Potter has become capable of doing. The conversation piece of the shadow lurkers, and the oddity and fetish of the average person, Neurotica embodies all that is horrific.

A candid account of one of America's most provocative filmmakers that belongs on the shelf of any serious movie lover.

Spike Lee tells the cinematic story of the preeminent director, whose pioneering films—from Do The Right Thing, Jungle Fever, and Malcolm X to 25th Hour , Bamboozled, and The Inside Man—helped transform the face of late twentieth-century America. With unprecedented access to the Lee family and new interviews with stars and celebrities—including Denzel Washington, Halle Berry, Rosie Perez, Adrien Brody, John Turturro, and many others—film critic Kaleem Aftab chronicles Spike Lee's explosive rise to stardom, exploring such important issues as Black Nationalism, Hollywood stereotyping, and the rise of a powerful black middle class. Lee's prominence in American culture continues in 2006 with the release of The Inside Man and a forthcoming documentary on Hurricane Katrina. Spike Lee tells us as much about the last two decades of American social history as it does about the life of this fascinating director. 40 photographs.

After reading this book and thinking about it as a whole, I was led to give it a 3-star rating, but it could've been a 5-star rating, if the editing were much stronger.

Viewing the reviews listed here, I see various complaints about the book, but none of them address what I consider to be the most glaringly obvious things: the grammatical errors and the cultural fact errors--two things that could have been handled before the book even went to the printer. First, and I must admit that I don't know if England uses a different set of grammatical rules, there is a serious problem with subject verb agreement throughout the entire text, particularly with regard to collective nouns and singular nouns with a plural appearance. Aftab even changes around some of the quotes to fit this very jarring grammatical detour. (For example, "40 Acres and a Mule are...." While I teach composition, I still know the average reader could pick up on this, whether it's setting a word like "jury" or committee" against the plural verb form or something more complicated like the 40 Acres name.)

Next, there are numerous fact errors. Among them is a misquote of Louis Farrakhan ("good" should be "great"--and that quote is forever taken out of context, and I say that not to defend the man at all). He also has Tupac dying in 1995 after being shot five times, Carmello Anthony going straight to the pros from high school, alongside LeBron James (as opposed to leading Syracuse to a NCAA championship), and stating that Cash Money Records was Master P's record label (not No Limit).

These errors are very glaring, but I can best compare them to enjoying a class where a teacher insists on using screechy chalk on the blackboard, because overall I really liked the book. It took enormous effort to synthesize so much information into a highly readable biography. Don't get me wrong. It is far from perfect, but the linear layout and the quotes from various actors and Spike create a kind of balance so that it's not completely one-sided. And Aftab covers all of the media worthy hot topics that surrounded each of Lee's films so that when you finish the book, you will have gotten a strong glimpse into Lee's professional approach to filmmaking.

I'm pretty sure that Spike Lee's own journals from his films will ultimately prove to be more useful for a beginning filmmaker than this book. It does, however, have its merits.

5 out of 5 stars A rare look into Spike Lee.......2007-01-03

For a man who stands out in a predominantly "white" profession, "That's my story" provides the reader with a rare glimpse into the mind of a genius. For Spike to allow this biography, he was sending the reader a message. Open up your eyes, and if you read between the lines, you will understand that Spike has been misunderstood for years, by the industry, media and his fans. He is a visionary, who has made his mark on all of us for years, we are just beginning to catch up to his genius finally.

Spike Lee Interview on ESPN? The interview said,

                                    interviewer:
"Kanye West said that Bush doesn't care about black people. Would you agree with that?

                                    Lee:
"Yes, I agree with that, BUT I'll go one step further and say that Bush doesn't care about people who don't have any money (whether they're black or white.) I guaranteed you that if this same disaster happened on Long Island or let's say The Hamptons, you would have had an entirley different response from FEMA and his administration."

But you should have seen how he said it, it was as if he was staring right into the camera with this smirk on his face. The dude is bold man, I'll give him that and I applaude him.

Spike said either black, white, Mexican, or asian.
But what he DIDN'T say was Italians!!

That dude has been getting flack forever for his dis'n of Italians in his movies, they call him a racist all the time.

HERE WAS HIS CHANCE to say something, and he blew it.

just didn't happen to say Italians?

                                    NO
So HE is a racist too.

And so are the Africans in Africa, they never have liked white people either, so what about that Spike? Try going over their and applying for a job!

And while I am at, the African Americans in even Baton Rouge don't want the blacks from N.O. coming up their! How come spike never said anything about that?

Fkn whiners, so many the world over! give them a mic and let them talk and will put it on TV and let the world see it for the fools they are.

And ignoramus white liberals eat it up as its gospel and he is telling Da Truth

5 out of 5 stars great book for indie filmmakers.......2006-04-16

I decided to write a short recommendation for this book because I almost did not buy it after reading some of the other online reviews. Luckily I did get this very well researched and well edited director biography (it is not an autobiography but rather an interview based biography resembling the "director on director" series) which focuses on the making of all of Spike Lee's features as well as on the history and development of his production company. Being an independent filmmaker myself I can only recommend this book and found it inspiring to hear of the success of someone who tried to make meaningful, personal and confrontational films and was not only interested in to "break into film and get rich" like so many 90's indie filmmakers. How to do this, make money without selling out and stay on the game for two decades shows this book in an engaging and inspiring way.

                                    2 out of 5 stars (RAW Rating: 2.5) - Exposing Spike.......2006-01-04

From his childhood and all throughout his film career, Spike Lee, born Shelton Jackson Lee, has been outspoken and opinionated. These solid traits, along with the sense of responsibility one acquires by being the oldest of five siblings, combined with education, talent, hard work, and great timing to produce one of the most recognized African-American film directors and producers to date. In SPIKE LEE: THAT'S MY STORY AND I'M STICKING TO IT, author Kaleem Aftab pens Spike's biography with such dedication and attention to details that readers will know everything one can know being on the outside looking into the life of Spike Lee: his upbringing, his college days, his first movies, his motivations, his financial trials, his political standpoints, his outlook on life, his recent films, and his goals. Although all is not rosy, Aftab still pulls back the cover and exposes details of Spike's life, before, after, and during the making of his films.

Starting with his childhood and then arranged by film, Aftab proves to have done excellent research as he provides readers with a plethora of facts about everyone Spike ever spoke to and/or dealt with and about how he started and got to where he is now. Offering insight into the motivations behind Spike's movies and good behind-the-scenes information, Aftab presents a novel that delves not just into Spike's life, but also illuminates certain well-known actors who Spike chose to work with: Bill Nunn, Denzel Washington, Wesley Snipes, Giancarlo Esposito, John Turturro, Danny Aiello, and Laurence Fishburne (to name a few). Readers really get a strong grasp of who Spike Lee is as Aftab talks about some of the filmmaker's classic New York outlooks and his perspectives on African-Americans, not just in film but also in life.

Extremely informational, SPIKE LEE, by Aftab, starts out slow and mundane. Aftab's writing style is not very intriguing or captivating for readers, which is a shame for it to be the biography of such an interesting figure. Also jumpy, it is difficult to keep up with what is going on. A section will begin discussing one event and will go off on a tangent about a list of people, who they are, and how they relate to Spike or the movie, and then jump back to the previous event. Transitional aids would help to make section themes flow better. A stronger narrative voice would also make information flow better. Throughout the biography, there are a plethora of quotes. Sometimes, a quote is so long and involved that it is easy for readers to forget that it is a quote, and jumping back to the narrator's voice once again throws off the flow of the text. As readers press on and become adjusted to Aftab's writing style, his composition creates a well-researched look into the life of one of America's prominent African-American directors/producers: Spike Lee.

                                        Book Description

A wildly imaginative and intellectually humorous account of 30 years of experiences, places and remembrances of a somewhat reformed nightclub entertainer. It?s a delicious balancing act upon that delicate thin line formed at the intersection where fact meets fantasy.

                                            Book Description

During the four decades since Tom Nelson left his hometown of Fennimore, Wisconsin he has returned countless times. Now he revisits once again to recount his younger years during the 1940's and '50s. These were times when in a small Midwestern town farmer families shopped on Saturday nights while their children went to a double feature movie. The men folks congregated at the local billiard parlor and wives sat in parked cars on main street gossiping with neighbors. It was during the days when youngsters went to the park during the day for ball games and played nighttime games of kick-the-can, or hide-and-seek until called home for bedtime. Those same young people of the radio generation raced home from school on bicycles to listen to Captain Midnight and Superman before supper. Then joined their parents in the evenings and laughed over the likes of Jack Benny and Fibber McGee and Molly. It was a time when filling stations were full service, comic books were collected at 10c a copy, Drug Store fountains cokes sold for a nickel, doctors made house calls and veterans were returning from the war to march in Memorial Day parades. Tom's book is anecdotal in short story form, filled with names of friends and acquaintances as he fondly remembers his favorite people and events. By substituting the names this book could be the story of anyone's small town years.

                                              Book Description

Tom Nelson has continued to write about his favorite hometown of Fennimore, Wisconsin in a weekly newspaper column over recent years. What started out as a short term assignment with the Fennimore Times has become a popular feature with that paper. His first book of short stories--That's My Story, And I'm Sticking to It!-- resulted in smiles and fond recollections for many reader's own memories of growing up in less complicated times. His personal reminiscences have evolved into a historical description of the character-- and characters--of small town life in the mid twentieth century. He claims all his stories are true, involving friends and acquaintances from his past--but admits to an embellishment, on occasion. Now he again revisits the memories of his youth from the 1940s and '50s to share more tales of his favorite times and events. He cautions the reader that these too could be their stories.merely change the names and your friends may appear on every page.
