    5 out of 5 stars Beautifu!.......2004-01-11

I have read many, many books, and many romance novels, but Simple Jess stands out from the crowd.

I read Simple Jess before I read Marrying Stone, and as a result, I was rather disappointed with the latter. I found the simple (no pun intended) love story much more touching simply because of the way Jess was portrayed. He is a man, an equal, not recognized as such by most, but he is a hero nontheless.

This book is just a wonderful love story, that's all, but it's very well written, and touched my heart like no other.

5 out of 5 stars ONE OF THE BEST STORIES I HAVE EVER READ.......2003-11-23

    P. Morsi does not pander to the sex starved reading public.
Like any normal man, Jesse is interested in sex. But he is resigned to being simple. It is just his way. He is a most wonderful character to be a loving hero.

Althea is bound and determined to save her farm for Baby-Paisley [I couldn't understand her marrying Paisley in the first place]and not turn it over to another man.
Her mother-in-law turns out to be quite a driven character.

I loved the way simple Jesse worked his way into Baby-Paisley and Althea's heart and was a little afraid when Oather suddenly commented on how beautiful was Jesse. Whoaee!

The supporting characters make up a great community and I loved Pastor Jay who was heard talking to the Angels.

I am more into the western frontier and military romances but THE MARRYING STONE and SIMPLE JESS was so very refreshing and fascinating that I am so glad to have added them to my library.

These stories are so much more real and earthy than the bed-hoping contemporaries being spun today.

I hope M. Morsi continues to spin these wonderful, refreshing tales, as these were a treat to read.

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED -- great addition to most libraries.

    3 out of 5 stars A sweet story..( 31/2 stars).......2003-07-21

"Simple Jess" was a truly sweet story..I thought that it had amazing potential, but sadly, it didnt live up to it. My disappointment in this book has nothing to do with the characters or the writing, but the fact that there werent enough interactions between Jesse and Althea. I felt that there were too many side plots that took away from the central characters and because of this I felt that the book suffered. All in all a good story ,but could have been sooo much better if only there had been more time devoted to the love story between Jesse and Althea.

5 out of 5 stars A Love Story... plain and simple.......2003-06-16

In all senses of the word, this is a love story. Not a romance. The novel features a young widow who is forced by the community she lives in to pick a new husband. She's being courted by two handsome, elligible bachelors, neither of whom she's interested in. Her attention is instead drawn to her hired hand, Jesse Best, who is known locally as "Simple Jess" because of a brain injury as a result of his birth. In a community where he isn't treated as an equal, Jesse finds himself being viewed as a partner, by a beautiful woman who has seen past his shortcomings, and into his heart.

5 out of 5 stars The best remembered romance I've ever read.......1999-11-09

I've read a lot of romances and over time have come to really appreciate a well-written, non-standard story. I feel that Simple Jess is just that. One of the scenes I vividly recall is when Simple Jess is skinning a deer and patiently explaining every action to Baby Paisley just as his father did for him. You get a real sense of what is important in life. In my mind's eye, I could just see the love and patience being carried on through the generations and even though Jess wasn't "normal", he was still able to be the kind of person that they needed him to be.

On a lighter note, I love how Pamela Morsi makes her characters individuals that you wouldn't find anywhere else. For instance, whenever I picture Simple Jess, I see him drifting from one group of women to another, smelling them. I love it! It makes perfect sense with his personality.

Though this book can stand alone, I think The Marrying Stone should be read first to just to provide a greater understanding of the community and personalities.

Have you ever been the experiment?

The Experiment by K.A. Applegate is a good book for kids who like animals. This book is good because it keeps you reading and you don't want to put the book down. The main conflict is six kids are trying to stop aliens from taking over Earth. The six kids try to stop the aliens called "Yeerks" which are aliens in humans controlling them. The people who are being taken over by the aliens are called "controllers". What happens is the aliens are trying to put poison in meat products. The poison is supposed to take control of the human body so they will obey the aliens can take over Earth.Marco is the main character he is a really cool kid who is trying to keep the Yeerks from destroying the planet Earth by blowing up all the controllers' electronic computers that store all of their information to blow up the Earth. Marco is pretty much a normal kid with parents and he attends school on a day to day basis. The only thing that makes him and his friends different is they can change into animals that they acquire from touching the animal species. He and his friend defend the Earth long enough to keep Vissor Three "alien leader" from coming back again in the book.
I think you should read this book if you like Fantasy Fiction stories, I would definitely recommend this book for you.

      5 out of 5 stars Loved It!.......2004-08-25

This is one of my favorite Animorph books. Then again,I always like Ax's narrations. In this book, the Animorphs find out about a machine that Visser 3 is trying to create that will destroy free will. They also take a visit to a meat packing plant morphed as, you guessed it: cows. I liked to read about Ax's opinion on T.V. and in general this book is funny, and one of the best Animorph books.

      4 out of 5 stars Good.......2003-06-26

In this book, the Yeerks are working on a drug that makes humans have no free will. Read it! It's good

Ok. Here I am again. Alright lets start with the usual with this book."I usualy like Animorphs book, but this one is pointless. The story is about a Yeerk plot that is a dud. Yup. Just that. Nothing happens. The most significant event is Ax getting a T.V. remote. Boring! If you don't already have this book, don't get it.

      2 out of 5 stars BORING&POINTLESS!.......2001-11-01

I usally love animorphs books, but this is pointless. The whole plot is about a yeerk experment that is a fake! It does not work!!This book is not worth anyone's time!If you want to read animorphs, read a book like #29, The Sickness. That is a very good book.(...)

                  Book Description

The vast majority of books on menarche-the first menstrual cycle-do not address its effect on a young girl's spiritual journey from maidenhood to womanhood. This book outlines the seven rituals, or stepping-stones, that a young woman faces on her voyage, marking her way through adolescence. These stepping-stones lead her from the childhood years to the childbearing years and draw attention to a young woman's changing spirit. Included are ideas for creating rites of passage, celebrations, and positive rituals for both mothers and daughters to share during this challenging and amazing time of growth.

I don't have daughters, so it was a fluke that I ever read this book in the first place, but I'm so glad I did. It was like a light being turned on in a room that had always been dark. My own torturous adolescence made sense, and I saw my 5 nieces in a whole new light. I wish I knew (and my parents knew) when I was a young woman the wealth of information in this book.

Today I'm a middle school teacher, and one thing I hear from parents over and over again is that their daughters are strangers to them. I keep telling them to read the "menarche" book. I wish I could provide it to all the moms and dads of my female students. I finally decided today to print the info page from Amazon so I could have it in my classroom for reference (and so I could stop calling it by the wrong title!). I plan on giving a copy to every parent, friend, and family member with girls.

I have boys, so I can't wait for Ms. Meisenbach Boylan's "boy" book.

This is a wonderfully comprehensive, spiritually and psychologically positive guide for the much-maligned yet crucial and valuable process of a girl's journey through puberty. I enjoyed every page, every insight. Rare is it when a book comes along which actually offers a new perspective and TEACHES me. This is it! Highly recommended. I know these years with my daughter will not be easy, yet I now look forward to them with a new, enlightened and honored resolve. Thank you for writing this book!

I found this book to be not only a great coffee table book but also a very good cook book. Whatever Chuck Williams & friends attach their name to is done in such excellent taste - the photographs are beautiful and even though the recipes look complicated, they are easy to follow. Diane gives little hints or suggestions before each recipe which help. The only reason I gave 4 stars instead of 5 is because nothing is perfect.

                  Book Description

"In 1957, Don Featherstone sculptured the first three-dimensional pink plastic flamingo, thereby making affordable bad taste accessible to the American public"--from Pink Flamingos. This is the tale of a wonderful bird, named by his creator phoenicopteris ruber plasticus; a new avian species, now known to all as "Pink Plastic Flamingo." The more than one hundred pictures and the text in this volume are the result of Featherstone's request that adoring owners of the pink birds send original photographs that demonstrate their affection for phoenicopteris on its 40th birthday in 1997. An overwhelming response included such masterpieces as: "Biker Birds," "What a Pear," "The Wedding Party," "Anyone for Bridge," "Purple Passion," "Beachcombers," and the sweetly romantic "Flamingo Honeymoon." If you're a believer, or even an skeptic, take a look, see for yourself. This book is one of a kind, the documentation of American genius, homage to an icon, or, perhaps, a rare opportunity to observe a culturally tolerated symbol of taste gone awry. It's great fun!

If you are a one of the many lovers of phoeniclpteris ruber plasticus, (pink plastic flamingos), this book will delight you. It is the story of the progression of the p.r.p. from its birth in Leominster, MA, to its spread throughout the United States. The book is the collection of photos summited to the company on the 40th anniversary of the flamingos' entrance into Amercian culture. Writer Tom Herzing gives a delightful tongue-in-cheek dialog of the dear birds; the photos chosen are better than your average bird photos. THE ORIGINAL PINK FLAMINGOS;Spelndor in the Grass, makes a wonderful addition to the usual coffee table clutter of 'real art'.

                  Book Description

A step-by-step guide to drawing Celtic knots, the most widely appealing form within the rich repertoire of Celtic design.

This comprehensive survey of Celtic knot design is based on the canon of traditional knot patterns collected by the father of the nineteenth-century Celtic Art revival, John Romilly Allen. His work has inspired generations of modern Celtic artists, but until now his definitive collection of knots from authentic sources has only been available in an obscure academic journal.

Aidan Meehan's Treasury is the most complete compendium available on these marvelously decorative and versatile designs. He first presents all the Celtic knots that Romilly Allen discovered, making each pattern intelligible with detailed instructions that show the primary, secondary, and tertiary dot grids, and then finishes the designs that the earlier artist provided. The knots are no longer clipped out of context, with loose ends, but developed into whole new ornaments, shown in two colors and in a variety of treatments. 752 illustrations in 2 colors .

4 out of 5 stars The Treasury of Celtic Knots.......2006-03-14

I have begun only recently drawing Celtic knots. I recommend Celtic Knots - Mastering the Traditional Patterns as a first book for beginners. I am currently working on The Treasury of Celtic Knots and finding knots as clearly explained as Celtic Knots, although the knots are much harder for me to draw. That's my failing rather than Mr. Meehan's. I especially like the round knots although mine turn out not exactly round. Practice, practice, practice.

I liked the book, it was helpful as a source of inspiration for a new business card I was having designed. I will say that based on the pages in the magazine each month, they could have come with with a MUCH better selection of cards for originalities sake. But nonetheless, I am sure the proprietors of the establishments represented (you will recognize some of them) are pleased. I liked the book and founf it useful for my project, but as a lover of all things paper, I will stick to the pages of the magazine for really striking cards.

2 out of 5 stars GOOD voice ,BAD writing........2005-12-28

Charlotte Church can sing. what she Can't do is write. in fact I'm not all that sure she wrote all of this book herself. I think its more then likely that she had a ghost writer to help her. this book does give some good info about charlottes life and early career, but there is really WAY to much about her family. she also says that she read wuthering heights by Jane Austen. right. bottom line: get her CDs not her book. our get this book from the library like I did.

3 out of 5 stars It's cute but the publishers erred.......2005-06-11

I bought this book recently at the Dollar Tree for $1 because I was curious. I read it and thought it was cute. BUT, that having been said, I believe the publishers really erred in how they originally released this book; they took it FAR too seriously for a "biography" purportedly written by a 15-year-old!

First of all, the book as released was too expensive. The audience to which it should have been geared was pre-teen girls, unlikely to pay $22.95 for a (thin) hardcover book; it should have been released directly to paperback. Secondly, since the book was written in a chatty diary format, it would have been appropriate and more entertaining to have had portions of it in Charlotte's own handwriting (assuming it's not too dreadful), and other portions done like a scrapbook, particularly the tales of her travels.

Given how Charlotte's life has changed since she wrote it, this book is also a nostalgic read. The "angelic" little girl with the lovely clear soprano voice seems to be long gone at this point, replaced by a "pop tart" who appears to want to be in the mold of a Britney Spears or a Christina Aguilara.

4 out of 5 stars Music does flow in her blood.......2004-03-25

After reading this book, you'll know what music is to Charlotte; it's in her. I thought the book was well written. I don't know why some people seem to be passionately against her. One reviewer says Charlotte doesn't write about her music, but that's not true. Most of this book IS about her music! As a matter of fact, I bought "Voice of an Angel" after reading this book. I only wish she showed her Welshness more in the book.

5 out of 5 stars Well Written And Enjoyable To Read.......2003-09-08

I too am a classical singer, and I must admit that Church might not be as wonderful as the World has made her to be. I do also have to say that I very much enjoy listening to her music and I think she has a lot of potential. Those who give her such low reviews, in my opinion, are jealous and unfair to Church.

As for the book? I thought it was very well written and I thoroughly enjoyed every chapter! I'm 15 and it kept my attention through the whole book. I found her life to be not that of a rich and famous singer/star, but that of a regular teenage girl. Sure, she's got about a million times more than most regular people will ever have, but she lives in a semi-regual way compared to other stars. It tells a lot of interesting facts about how she got started, her family, her home and travels.

In all, I have to say that this was very entertaining. I would recomend this book to those of you who are not jealous of this teenage star and for those of you who like to read about famous people.

I'm sorry, but this is ridiculous. Can someone please tell me why so much hype concenring this "child prodigy"? Yes, at 12 years old she was good, however not as amazing as America percieved her to be. Now, years later she's gotten worse, and still everyone fusses about her! and now the next thing i see, we have to read about her life so far? please! she seems very shallow according to this book, to tell you the truth, she doesn't seem interesting enough or have enough depth to her to write a book. she just seems like a one-dimensional money-making machine that once showed potential and now is just something to make money off of. I'm sorry if this is cruel, but that's the price publishers risk when releasing nonsense like this.
