Read this many years ago -- when it first came out in hardcover. Loved the writing which was so very real to me. The mother/daughter relationship was described flawlessly, and I have read so many mother/daughter books!! Their conflicts, as well as their motivation[s] captured and held my attention to the point where the laundry almost reached my ceiling!! I'm waiting for more [reasonably priced] novels from this author!! Brava!!

in this book, as well as Glickfeld's first book, Useful Gifts, I am pulled deeply into the lives of the characters. By the end of the book I know them well because I have lived them, not just read about them. This is the author's story telling gift.

Good, but not Great.......2003-07-15
Carole Glickfeld begins her novel, Swimming Toward the Ocean, with a minor miracle: Devorah, the first-person narrator, narrates the opening scenes from within her mother's womb. The story builds compellingly as the characters develop, but it sags a bit after the midpoint, and the plot is weakened by its reliance on devices, such as a financial windfall that takes us out of realism and into fantasy. Swimming Toward the Ocean is not a long novel, but this reader believes it could have been edited down a bit, as the main characters eventually become predictable and tiresome. But Glickfeld is a gifted and disciplined writer, on the whole, and her debut novel is much better than most that are being published today.

Another Great Morgan's Mercenaries Story.......2000-08-08
This is a beautiful love story of two very lonely people. Arianna Worthington is driven to complete her deceased mother's dream of drawing the many different orchids that grow in the Amazon jungle, then getting the drawings published in a book. But Ari is a shy, insecure young woman who must stand up to her powerful father in order to take that trip to the dangerous jungles of Brazil. She finds the strength to defy her father enough so that he enlists the aid of Morgan Trayhern, owner of Perseus, who can provide Ari with a bodyguard while she goes on what he considers a worthless trip.
Trayhern has just the man Arianna needs - Rafe Antonio, a backwoodsman and ranger in the Amazon jungle who can get her in to find the orchids and keep her safe. Rafe is a highly educated man, who defied his own powerful and wealthy father when it came to what he wanted to do with his life. Instead of taking over the family's vast banking industry, he has chosen to live in the jungle and help protect the rain forest and natives from the greed of the drug lords, miners and loggers.
Thus begins an exciting journey for both Rafe, who thought he would never find someone with the same capacity to love the jungle that he has, and Ari, who needs to learn to spread her wings and fly.
I loved the story of Rafe and Arianna itself, but I also gained quite an education on the sheer greed and brutality of the drug lords against the natives of the jungle. The story really brings to light what is happening in the rain forest. This is the first of a series of three. but is also the continuing saga of Morgan Trayhern and his mercenaries. I highly recommend the book.
Power and beauty.......2000-07-29
I loved this book. It's unlike anything else I have read, and that's a definite plus. Its power and beauty make it a must buy. The hero and heroine, Rafe and Ari, are full-blown characters with depth and feeling. The storyline is exciting and makes you wish you were there! I can't wait until the secondary character, Inca, shows up in her own book, due out in August. I hope everyone gives Man of Passion a read...you will be so glad you did.

Linsay, Is the most fantastic writer. I have read all she has had published so far. Rafe is the best. He just is the most exciting man. He's not sure he wants to help Ari, He soon discovers how different she really is and how much alike the two of them are. You can feel the desire Ari has to fulfill her dream of drawing the orchids and showing what she can do. Rafe has a friend Inca comes to help when he is called away. This book can not be put down til the very end and you want to read more and more of Morgan's Men. I can't wait for Inca's Story. Manof Pasion is a keeper.
Wonderful Work Again........2000-07-11
The story centering around Rafe and Ari in his jungle was excellent. I was gratefull to see the maturing of Ari in a smooth story line. Many of the stories we read today just jump right into the characters as full blown individuals. We don't know who they really are. In this story, the characters fully developed within the storyline. It was a no stop reading marathon for me. I enjoyed it to its fullest.

Arianna Worthington wants to travel to the Amazon to study and draw orchids. It was a dream she shared with her dying mother. Now Ari is ready to face her domineering father for a chance to go. Unbeknownst to her, her father has arranged for a special mercenary to guide and protect her. Rafe Antonio is a wonderful hero. He is tall, strong, honorable, protective, handsome, intelligent...have I forgotten anything? He sounds almost to perfect to like and yet he is very likeable, compassionate, and lonely. Arianna, on the other hand, has little self-confidence. She is introverted and delicate, but also creative, joyful and loving. It takes Rafes strength and confidence to help Ari find herself. She also has help from Inca, (a great character from previous Mckenna stories) who is an extremely powerful woman. Rafe finds in Ari, someone who feels the same wonder and joy he does about the Amazon rainforest. There is great emotion between these two, NOT just lust. Another terrific story by Lindsay Mckenna!

The Seth material is an indivisible whole. It is so difficult to grasp in its implications that I feel quite accomplished to have a fingernail- hold on some small part of it. The Nature of the Psyche posts some indespensible chapters. Chapter nine, "Characteristics of Pure Energy" is so clear about the nature of creativity and dreaming that readers will never again be able to think of these matters in their old way. It's that good. It really is. Of course, if you're a reader of Jane roberts you already know this. Do you not agree that Jane Roberts is one of the bravest people of our modern age?

How we create our reality, psyche, sexuality, dreams, simultaneous time, dimensions, love, and our past are some of the more in-depth points in this Seth book. Although this is just the beginning.
In beginning, my view, this book explains the "nature of sexuality" more completely than any before. I am euphoric Seth shared his opinion because it is a very important subject. Many, many people may be shocked at Seth's view of sexuality, homosexuality, or lesbianism. Seth helped me understand this hot topic much better. Anyone interested in this area should read. This is but a small portion of this book.
Some of Seth's explanations do seem repeated from previous material, however there is much new material. The way in which Seth explains the subjects in new wording tones and sentences are far enlightening. I find there is some great info regarding dreams. In my opinion, Seth has always been outspoken on the importance of dreams. What I exuberantly enjoy about Seth are his explanations of dreams and the dream reality, this is how I correlated Seth's information into my belief of Seth. By having a foothold of my own dream experiences I have correlated them with Seth's view of the dream world.
In addition, Seth can explain how we create our reality like no one else.
Something beyond the words, and the symbols of this book. A feeling, tone, or a transcendence sense that I come away with Seth's spoken, then written words. This perception been commented on many of times within Seth groups, and as I look back and write about this sense, it still feels strange and unknown. Any person having a fond love for a book will understand.
The Nature of the Psyche is not as detailed or long as "The Nature of Personal Reality" but amazingly to the point, the chapters are shorter and gave me an excellent explanation of the topics presented. I like the fact that it is shorter.
I left much out of this review but I do believe this book would be a good starter for beginners interested in Seth's concepts. A+ material thanks Rob, Jane and Seth.

Among other things this book proffers a very touching, and original, view on love--in its various manifestations. I cannot recommend this book highly enough!
Not Sure About This One........2002-01-24
I love most of the Seth books, and this one was not too bad, its a shame tho, alot of it, just seemed to be repeated over and over again, till you kinda lose interest. Of course its interesting and has alot of good points, but takes a turn with the constant repeating of the same thing. If your an avid Seth reader, then its okay, but you may be lost if your not.
Seth's psychology.......2001-08-20
This book could be called the psychology of Seth. Where his other books are geared toward describing non-physical reality and it's relation to physical reality. This book describes from Seths' unique higher perspective human psychology and is truly outstanding even among Seth books. I can't recommend this book highly enough. It ranks as high as the Eva Pierrakos channeled works from a human psychology perspective.

As beginning collector it was difficult to get an insight in what exactly was produced, when and what varieties exist.
This book fills the gap to a large extend, providing a lot of information. The illustrations/lay out are/is sometimes what eratic, and one example of a factory drawing would be nice, but so many eats up a lot of space, which might have been used for other purposes. However, the provides an excellent overview of all aspects of Dinky, and it is well worth its money.

If you are interested in Chinese art, culture, clothing, and history, then this is your Bible. Chalked full of photos that pop off the page. This witty and interesting book takes you from Ming to present day China. Vivienne Tam reflects on her life, born in mainland China, raised in Hong Kong, then moving to New York. She tells charming stories about what has influenced and inspired her and her collections. Great interviews with members of China's creative community, and who can forget Mao? The book is designed like a large coffee table version of Mao's little red book! This is simply stunning.

Big book with stunning and bright photo illustrations that "bleed" off the page.
Ms. Tam understands the style of Hong Kong and China (especially Shanghai) like few others; the best of that style is all here. She writes with enthusiasm and love for many essential aspects of the appeal of a culture known for its centuries-old aesthetic and for its mass-production and other mass sensibilities.
Tam's education at the Hong Kong Polytechnic gives her a unique vantage point for isolating Chinese chic. She can view Cultural Revolution paraphrenalia with the eye of a designer, collector, and artist, rather than with painful memories. In a show of global sophistication, she understands East-meets-West sensibility (her chapter on Chinglish is told with an appealing tenderness). The text comes off without a shimmer of self-consciousness or compulsion to 'be Chinese.' There is camp, sex, zen, pizzazz and beauty, exploding off of every page and augmented by Tam's tales of exploration and appreciation.

Unbelievable new book--from the red plastic cover (meant to mirror, and mock, the Little Red Book of Mao Tse-tung) to the great historic photos to the informative text and interviews, this is a unique creation. It's part autobiography (Tam was born in China, moved to Hong Kong at age 3, and grew up there), part fashion history, part contemporary culture, and all fun. Special chapter called "Mao Crazy," on the cult of Mao is worth the cost of the book alone.`

The combined efforts of Valerie Steele, John Major, and others make this book a must-read, just as the exhibit at the Fashion Institute in spring 1999 that this book used as a basis was a must-see for anyone who cares about fashion, culture and dress, or Chinese history.

This is a very good art book. David Ho is an awesome artist. His works are dark, captivating and simbolic. The book is relativly long with lots of art in it and printed on the best quality paper i've seen in an art book to date.
Fans of 2d and 3d digital art, photomanipulation, and dark-themed art will want to pick this one up.

there is a reason this book is getting only 5 star ratings ,it is magnificent. David Ho's work is dark ,mesmerizing and thought provoking. His talent is unbelievable ,shocking almost. if you need inspiration as to what you can do creating art on a computer ,this book is for you.there is a chapter where he explains his methods and this is very helpful ,but it is the amazing art that will keep you coming back again and again to this book.

This book was my introduction to the art of David Ho, and within minutes, as I browsed through the pages, he joined the top ranks of my favorite artists of the fantastic -- Zdzislaw Beksinski, H. R. Giger, John Jude Palencar, and a few others. Amazon has a "see more pictures" option on this book, so check it out. You'll see why any lover of the dark fantastic will have to own this incredible art book.

"The ability and willingness to reveal oneself to the world without shame or guilt is probably one of the greatest gifts a person can possess." So says David Ho in the preface to his book The Shadowmaker. That line alone makes this book worth buying. Shadowmaker not only showcases the tremendous talent that Mr. Ho is, but it also takes us into a journey into his mind and his soul. And it sure is one place that i would like to go back to again and again. This book serves not only to entertain, it inspires the artist inside of us. Shadowmaker is definitely one of the best purchases i've made in the past year.
