Okay So I liked this book a lot but I had a few issues with some of the things Farah put up with. I know the context of the book is people using one another etc but damn Farah did you have to let Lennox run over you like that? At first she was a character that was sassy with a lot of backbone. Then later she became some dependent woman relying on cheating Lennox to make it. Only to break up with Lenox int he worst way and lose everything she let him use her to get. Now Lennox, I can say I never liked his character. I mean like personally. I liked it for the book though. He was full of it and didn't realize what he had until far too late. Lennox was a cheater, a drug addict and all around bad person. That they ended up together in the end I don't know about that. I think she would have been stronger apart from him. But that's just this reader's opinion. But it was a damn good book. Read it! You won't help but hope something happened to Lennox..

This book is definitely a page turner although I am not sure I am comfortable with the messages it sends. Farah endures infidelity, physical and drug abuse by a mate - not to mention career sabotage - only to take Lenox back on a whim. I was waiting for her to get him back and do it well. I didn't expect that she would duck and run.

This book is really captivating. It brought me emotionally up and down but in the end it left me feeling incomplete. It is a wonderful story. I am really looking forward to another book to continue the story.

I really enjoyed this book. I found it very interesting. I started reading the book at 8:30 p.m. and finished reading it at 2:45 a.m. I kept reading it thinking, How can Farrah let Lenox get away with this stuff. I felt so much anger towards the French girl. I mean was she a 304 or what? The aunt was pretty ruthless as well. I could not believe the relationship between Lenox's mother and father. His mistress was leavning in their home? No wonder Lenox was like he was? He got it from his fater. I really felt that Farrah's mother really pressured her about being with a man. Overall the book was very good! I really like the part when Farrah gave that french girl a good butt kicking. That was over due! I have a question did Lenoz and Farrah get back together at the end? Did she accept his proposal?
The loser's guide to scam a man.......2004-10-24
If Susan B. Anthony knew that her efforts in helping women to be equal to men would result in more women like Maryann Reid wants women to be, she would have sat home and churn butter. This book is the Diva's Guide to scam men, proving that women wont work hard like men do, they only want to learn to live off of men's generosity. This book should be titled "If I have no more use for you, i will leave you." with the theme of "I love you until i find someone better than you" I see that on Jerry Springer Show, I don't need to read this in a book by one of the Show's potential contestant.
Maryann Reid has put forth a lifestyle that will will put her first and everything else is not even close to important. Forget about creating a sound family and supporting your man and children. That is not important for her. Only the Gold, Cars and money that a man gives her is important. Get out your wallet and show her how much you love her and if you don't, you are greedy and she will find someone that will.
I recommend this book for Men all over so they can use these principals for their women in their life. After all there has never been a woman that built a building Nor worked for a sanitation Department. Yes they will work as a fireman, or a police officer with a more lenient requirements to suit their lesser abilities, but they will never dirty their precious nails to provide for their community. Men's blood have been shed for her freedom to be a woman. As Oprah said "If you are a woman living in America you are the luckiest woman in the world" And she is right. Men fought for those rights for generations. But Maryann Reid wants to profit from men while men risk their life for her freedom. She wants to profit from men as they support her from many angles. She wants men to support and pay her for the privilege of pleasing her every greedy need.
I hope that her sons, Father, grandfathers, grandsons and brothers fall victim to the women that this book creates. I hope that men Make women earn the freedom that Oprah said that women have by using these principals that Maryann Reid wants women to make men Earn their gifts. Gifts are not earned they are given from the heart. But maybe she is right, Men, make your wives earn their gift of your provisions and if they don't, you leave.

This book presents its material in a well-organized manner.
The author is a brilliant theoretical physicist and explains the concepts wonderfully.
I recommend this book for any and all who wish to understand the essence of time, reality, and the universe in general.
From a very personal level, the book affirms many of my own views pertaining to the cosmos and consciousness. There is indeed a Primary Mover (aka "God"), and he exists and operates in infinite (!) dimensions.
Nice intro to 4-D.......2003-05-04
I bought this book about ten years ago, and recently rediscovered it. It is full of nice (though very simplistic) illustrations and lots of references to other books and writers that touch the subject. Not very profound, but enough to tickle the mind and awaken interest for futher investigation into this realm. Rucker has obviously read a lot on this matter and he has made me want the same.

I found this book a difficult read. "Flatland" by A. Square (an illustrator) is a definite pre-requisite, and helpful, but even with that under my belt I had problems following Mr. Rucker.

Invaluable Work on Acts.......2004-05-18
Like him or not, Dr. John MacArthur always preaches what he believes and never waters it down. His firm foundation in the Bible allows him to teach with authority (Matthew 7:28). MacArthur does so in his continuing commentaries on the New Testament with this volume on Acts 1-12.
MacArthur does deal with the hard issues. For example, he deals with the baptism with the Holy Spirit in Acts 2 and offers his view (a cessationist view with a view toward conversion-initation; see James Dunn's BAPTISM IN THE SPIRIT). He does deal with miracles and manifesation gifts where needed from his text. MacArthur will not write what is popular nor will he debate an issus not found in the text he is dealing with.
I do highly recommend this volume on the book of Acts as well as the companion second volume of Acts 13-28. Both offer useful outlines for teachers of Scripture and both give great evangelical commentary as well as historical, grammatical, and application from the powerful book of Acts.
Buy something else.......2002-04-22
I'm impressed by MacArthur's scholarship and commitment to the text. But, I think that he reads much into it. Instead of wrestling with some of the tough issues that creep up in the book of Acts, with which the church needs to struggle, he gives pat, comfortable answers (i.e., in regard to financial matters, the idea of physical healing, the gifts of the Spirit, etc.).
No, I don't have the answers on all of those issues, which is why a more honest struggle with them, in print, would be helpful. More helpful than just dismissing some very relevant issues.
Anyway, please, please do not take this as a personal "slam" on MacArthur and his ministry-- obviously, he's a very anointed leader. And, I would recommend some of his other commentaries (1 Corinthans, for example). I just was not impressed on this one, and, if you have a limited book budget, by another commentary on Acts.
(FYI... it is helpful, if you do have this one, to read it in tandem w/ C.Peter Wagner's commentary on Acts, which takes the polar-opposite stance on almost every issue MacArthur presents.)

Very Versatile Cookbook with Southern Roots.......2001-02-04
We find it hard to go wrong with Anne Byrn. We like this book almost as much as we like The Cakemix Doctor. This book is well written and chocked full of good famous Southern dishes and a hundred recipes I never heard of until I moved into the city. It is a great reflection of the evolution of the traditional to more modern South. Thanks again Anne. This native Tennessean is happy to recommend your work!!

I received Ann Byrn's book in 1988 as a gift from Susan Byrn, my coworker and the author's sister. It has been our favorite cookbook for the last decade. We grew up in Arkansas and Louisiana, so updated southern favorites (lower fat, modern processing) are right up our alley. My husband loves to make Red Beans and Rice, the Seafood Gumbo is our special occasion recipe, and I am always asked to bring Chocolate Bourbon Pecan Pie to family holidays. I've won raves at pot luck meals with Seven-Layer Salad and Southwestern Squash Casserole. I am so pleased to see this book back in print so I can give it to my friends and family. And Susan, if you're out there-- send me email!

A staunch modernist, Herbst was a founding member and later president of the Union des artistes modernes (UAM) in France, which sought to make domestic comfort accessible to all, regardless of class. The French architect turned designer was nicknamed the "man of steel" because he pioneered the use of the material for furniture years before mass production on a large scale was possible. This book was a wonderful surprise. First of all, it contains a CD which is worth the price of admission. The CD has a lot of folk songs and arja (Balinese opera) selections which aren't generally available in CD stores (which tends to just cover gamelan and cak.)
For musicians, it presents detailed technical information on performance and to some degree the process of learning the vocal techiques.
For musicologists, it provides quite a background on how it fits in Balinese society.
I don't know if I can properly comment on how accessible it will be to people who don't play or study music. However a good deal of the information is down to earth and anecdotal, and of course the music on the CD is anything but academic.
