Book Description
Private detective Jonah McEwen is wanted for murder. Someone has been killing women who resemble Marylin Blaylock, his former colleague and ex-lover. The latest grisly discovery is right on his doorstep. He is the obvious suspect. The problem? He has been in a coma for three years--a coma he has no memory of entering. And there's worse to come. Using matter transporter technology, or "d-mat," a serial killer know only as the Twinmaker has been brutally torturing and killing perfect facsimiles of his victims and leaving the originals alive. As legal arguments rage about whether this even constitutes murder, Jonah finds himself in the awkward position of defending his innocence when his own exact copy might actually be guilty. Set in a time where the lines between human and machine are increasingly blurred, The Resurrected Man explores the future of terrorism, law enforcement, and globe-spanning conspiracies. A perfect blend of suspense and science fiction, the novel follows the complexities of Jonah and Marylin's relationship and their quest to find the killer before he strikes again, as well as unravelling the tensions between Jonah and his father-a man who has been dead for three years but who might yet hold the key to everything... Nominated for the Aurealis Award and winner of the Ditmar Award, The Resurrected Man was hailed as a "tour de force" in Australia, the author's home country, and described as "compulsively readable" by Locus.

Australian SF Reader.......2007-08-01
Here we have a science fiction mystery story. Transporters of the Star Trek variety are available, so transport is cheap and easy. Any technology can be used for crime, however, and a serial killer is discovered.
This very twisted individual utilises this tech to copy people, and kill a copy. What does all this mean philosophically? A detective on the case realises that there is some relationship between all this killing and her own identity.
The Twinmaker Murders.......2006-12-22
The Resurrected Man (2005) is a standalone SF novel. In 2069, the matter transmission network covers more than seventy percent of the planet. The d-mat is used not only for personal and freight transmission, but for replication of material goods.
In this novel, the man was awakened by a dull, but persistent murmur. His body hurt everywhere and his limbs were too cramped to move. He found himself lying beneath the surface of in a pool of water. He was not breathing! Suddenly he erupted from the water in terror.
Hands reached out to support him as he coughed up the fluid in his lungs. The voices identified him as Jonah McEwen and, when his eyes cleared, he found himself facing Marylin Blaycock. Now her hair is not blonde and she is not working for him, but for the police.
Jonah has been missing for more than three years under a privacy seal. The police had not come to his apartment to rescue him, but to investigate another crime. Now they suspect him of killing the victim. The medics take care of his immediate needs and then the officers start interrogating him. When Jonah recognizes their approach, he refuses to answer any more questions. Then they show him the remains.
In this story, the Matter-transference Investigative Unit (MIU) is an official branch of the Earth Justice Commission, but is funded by Kudos Technologies Incorporated (KTI), which owns the d-mat patents and operates the d-mat network and other related services. The MIU believe that the body in Jonah's d-mat booth is the sixteenth Twinmaker killing.
A composite image of the Twinmaker victims looks very much like Marylin Blaycock as Jonah knew her. Moreover, the first case occurred one week after Marylin joined the MIU, about six months prior to his awakening. The Twinmaker victims are tortured to death, but somehow the victims themselves are still alive. The Twinmaker seems to be kidnapping a copy of the victims when they use the d-mat, but leaving the originals alive and unaware of the crime.
The novel raises the question of whether users of the d-mat are the same persons after they arrive at their destinations. A few people refuse to use the d-mat, calling it the death-mat, and even some of those who habitually use the system wonder whether they are gradually being changed by such usage. Complicating this issue is the method of resurrecting victims of accidental or intentional deaths; for an exorbitant price, the person can be reconstructed from network records into much the same body.
One of the characters is an Artificial Intelligence called QUALIA. Es is based on twenty Standard Human Equivalent processors designed to induce consciousness. SHE is not just a spearcarrier, but an integral part of the plot, with Es's POV running throughout the story.
This story does not include any new technology per se, for matter transmission, duplicate bodies, virtual minds, and artificial intelligence are old themes in SF (see Gallun's People Minus X (1957) and Pohl's Gateway series). However, the manner in which such technology is used to commit these crimes is rather unusual. Still, one of the crimes per se is most unusual, but you will have to read the book to find out the nature of this crime.
This work is by no means the first novel by the author nor it is even his first solo effort, but his works have not been readily available in the USA. That has changed recently, especially for his collaborations with Shane Dix. Amazing how American publishers are finally discovering the authors down under.
Highly recommended for Williams fans and for anyone else who enjoys futuristic detective stories.

interesting future mystery.......2005-09-13
Jonah McEwen is a suspect in a series of murders he knows nothing about, having spent the last 3 years in a state of hibernation. This makes it an interesting book to get sucked in to, as the main characters don't know what happened during a critical period of time, and the reader does not know exactly how the murders are possible, not being familiar with the details of how the key technology works. The murders were commited using d-mat, a transmitter that transforms someone into information which is then rematerialized at their destination. Many people have qualms about having this done to them, but eventually holdouts are in the minority due to d-mat's convenience. "All I see are zombies", says a leader among the holdouts, referring to the majority of society. Jonah points out that these sorts of arguments have been made for every new form of technology. The book raises more questions than it can answer, but I mean that in a good way.
I would like to add that if you enjoy this book you might want to also read David Brin's "Kiln People", which brings up similar questions.
Great Read!.......2005-05-04
Would a person's copy be considered alive? Would a copy's murder be considered a crime? The Resurrected Man realistically shows how this particular technology could both positively and negatively impact a future society, including an almost terrorist group opposed to d-mat on moral grounds. The Resurrected Man is a fast-paced blend of science fiction and mystery. I spent several nights staying up too late so I could finish just one more chapter. I highly recommend this novel.

Book Description
Kidnapped and confined in a harem -- that's not the scenario Charlotte Quade envisioned when she prayed for just one grand adventure before sailing home to Washington Territory from Europe. While exploring the ancient, exotic island kingdom of Riz, Charlotte foolishly lost her way. In a dizzying moment, she was snatched, bound up in a sack and unceremoniously dumped -- completely naked! -- in the ship's cabin of the very same man who had caught her fancy as a young girl in Seattle: Captain Patrick Trevarran.
But Charlotte's dream lover turned out to be no gentleman! He had once gallantly fetched her, as a mischievous teenager, from the riggings of his ship, but now he appraised her with exasperation and quickly packed her off to the harem of a sultan friend. When they were reunited -- as much by mercy as by fate -- it was clear that Patrick wished merely to tease and trifle with this pretty, rebellious American. But, through their adventure, Charlotte had discovered a provocative man torn between recklessness and devotion, between storm and calm. Now, with all the strength and passion she possessed, Charlotte would chart a course that would sweep them at last to their destiny -- a glorious and resounding love.

Not a Keeper.......2007-07-24
I read this one because I had read Yankee Wife and this was sort of a sequel but simply could not warm up to Charlotte. There were some redeeming qualities in the later part of the book but for the most part she acts like a spoiled brat. Though I like strong characters, she was over the top like so many of Miss Miller's heroines are. Charlotte put herself and others in harms way several times because of her willfullness. Her character wouldn't listen to anyone. I agree with others of too much sex and not romance. Well it was a quick read and entertaining but wouldn't read it again. Linda has written much better books, such as the McKettrick's series and The Man From Stone Creek and her new Wanted Man. SO if this is the only book you read of MS Miller's, don't judge her writing by this one.

Could have been interesting...instead started to read like a cheap 'adult' movie.......2006-02-16
I've read this author's work before, and while none of her books have made it on to my keeper shelf, I usually find them interesting for a one-time read. One thing I've found with the author is that she either writes a story with no sex (apart from maybe a wedding-night scene), or the book is crammed with nothing else.
This book fell into the latter category. It started off well, with lots of action that captured the reader's attention. Charlotte was a little abrasive (she came off as a brat sometimes), but for the most part, I liked her because she was never afraid to stand up for herself. And Patrick was more than just the typical rake that you find in romance novels. He actually treated Charlotte with a lot more respect than most men would in the time period.
This book was obviously well researched, and I found the inside look into the culture of a harem very interesting. My problem was with all the sex, sex, sex. Charlotte is forced to marry Patrick to escape punishment for trying to escape the harem. Fine. But then the author has them doing it something like eight times in a row. And Charlotte is a virgin! I mean, come on, try to be the tiniest bit realistic. A woman whose just lost her virginity can't do it that many times the first night and not feel pain. She shouldn't have been able to walk for a week! Besides, I wanted more romance between the characters, instead of them just boinking each other's brains out.
The author had Charlotte declaring her love, which was not believable at this point in the story, either. The hero and heroine had done nothing but bicker up until then. Am I really supposed to believe that a girl's childhood crush from 10 years before can make her fall in love that easily? People do change. How many of us had crushes that lasted for a decade?
I got sick of this constant cycle of them bickering, then boinking, over and over again. I want to feel a real love growing between the characters. This book didn't give that to me.
I will try other of this author's books, but I can't recommend this one, unless you like a story so thin that the formula shows through.
Unique setting but otherwise typical Miller historical.......2005-03-05
The luscious exotic settings of this book - the market in Morocco, the sultan's palace and harem in Riz, the villa in Costa de Cielo (Spain), and the tropical Sugar Plantation island - were described in such brillant detail that they came to life right off the pages!
I found Charlotte to be headstrong spoiled brat who seemed to purposely say and do things that interfered with her getting along with people, especially Patrick. She was so unnecessarily argumentative towards him (and towards the other characters, such as Rashad). Still, she was a likable hero because she stood up for herself, and wouldn't put up with men treating her like a second-class citizen, as was the norm in this place and time. Instead, she used her adventuresome intelligence to work alongside the physically strong men in times of trouble to resolve the situations. Additionally, Charlotte was an attentive nursemaid to the wounded, ill and persecuted.
Patrick was also a likeable hero, despite the fact that he forcefully pushed away people he loved. I disagree with the description on the back cover that he was "no gentleman". He treated the women with far more gentleness and respect than his contemporaries, and had a strong sense of responsibility and protectiveness towards them.
This was a typical historical romance, using a lot of unnecessary conflict and bickering between the two lovers. The sensuality and sex was steamy and frequent.
another Miller classic.......2000-07-07
Millers heroins traits of strong wills and high pride do not lack in this exciting adventure/romance novel surely to capture your heart.

Neat Plot!.......2003-04-16
This is my favorite book in the series. It is about Jack Raynes, a seventh grader in Metier, Wisconsin. He has this really bad crush on this girl and when he finally gets up enough courage to go and ask her to the out to the movies he gets hit on the with a baseball bat. Afterwards he answers his teacher in perfect spanish even though he has only been taking it for two months, and was never any good at languages. But after his thirteenth birthday he can now speak any language he wants. But will Jack be able to talk his way through an assassination aimed at him?
Mindwarp rocks!.......2000-04-12
Alien Scream was really exiting. I've read all the Mindwarp books from 3-10 and they are the best books ever! I love the powers all the characters have and their personalities. I liked it when Jack back-chatted to the Spanish teacher- in Spanish! I am so hooked on the Mindwarp books and i wish there was more after number 10!
Awesome Book.......1999-12-02
it's awesome! My favorite part is when Jack controls the terminites, and tells them to eat the rope and there's a bomb thats going to explode, and I can't tell you the rest or I'll ruin the book for you, but belive me, it's a great book!
I thought it was the best book I have read this year........1999-10-27
My favorite part was when he won the 1,000-lbs. bar of chocolate. Because it would be cool if someone really won that much chocolate. Two things I liked were when he almost got to play the video game because I thought that it was tight. Another thing I liked was when he was covered with termites because that would probably tickle a lot. Two things I didn't like were when he kept on getting knocked out. Also I didn't like it when he got taken hostage, because that was probably really scary.
Really funny, one of the best in the series so far.......1998-06-10
This is the greatest book in the series so far. Its really funny and Jack is really cool! I think this series like totally blows Animorphs away (in other words better then Animorphs)!

Customer Reviews:
great, but takes a little time.......2006-12-18
Having practice concentration from several other resources, I find this to be my favorite. Most other methods of concentration require a lot of willpower to sharpen mental focus. While this might work, in my experience, it doesn't work very well. As soon a you stop training, you're mind will quickly resort back to its old wandering ways.
The method taught by Dr. Woods on the other hand, is more gental, and over time gets your mind into the habit of staying with a single thought until you're no longer interested in it. In essence you are able to control your mind. I highly recommend this work, though for most people, in order to see effective results a lot of daily practice is required, far more than what the author suggests.
Very well written.......2006-03-20
This book is written for those who want to gain success from such books. Great attention was made to details which in turn gives the reader a very thorough explanation of meditation. There is so much in this book that I find more and more after each time I read it.
It works.......2003-07-14
I first read this almost twenty years ago, and cannot overstate how valuable it was to me then. The methods Mr. Wood taught in the book have given me focus in my academic, business, and personal life, and helped me to achieve many goals. Year's back, I gave away about a dozen copies to friends. I just promised to loan it to another, picking it up after a ten-year absence. Re-reading the first chapter was like hearing from an old friend. In the end I decided to buy another copy to give to the friend, rather than part with mine. Do the exercises: they work.
The best book on concentration I have ever read........1999-01-25
I have read other books on concentration and meditation but this one is different. It teaches you how to train your mind as a willing and happy student as opposed to whipping your mind into shape as a master over a slave. The methods work and my concentration has improved greatly as a result.
Excelent book to improve your concentration and memory.......1998-08-08
I did all the excercises in the book and it really works. It has helped me through college and now in my professional life.

Book Description
This captivating book of recollections celebrates the holiday traditions of Appalachian families as passed from one generation to the next. Based on Foxfire students' interviews with neighbors and family members, the memories shared here are from a simpler time, when gifts were fewer but perhaps more precious, and holiday tables were laden with traditional favorites. More than just reminiscences, however, A Foxfire Christmas includes instructions for recreating many of the ornaments, toys, and recipes that make up so many family traditions, from Chicken and Dumplings to Black Walnut Cake, and from candy pulls to corn husk dolls and hand-whittled toy cars.

Lost arts of days gone by........2007-06-07
Take your thoughts away from the commercialism of Christmas by traveling through time and re imagining how poor folks joyfully celebrated Christmas. We could learn many lessons from them.
Cozy Christmas reading!.......2007-02-10
Every Christmas, I read a book in the month of December about Christmas. This was my choice for 2006, and it really is a wonderful little book. The authors provide us with accounts from Appalachia's older folks who recall the Christmasses of their childhoods. It is almost like listening to them speak as we are told of a more innocent time in America, and the simplicity of their Christmas, which focused on the Lord. We learn about their gifts, which aren't much compared to today, their meals which sound delicious, games they played, church, and social gatherings. Recipes are included, as well. I highly recommend this book for anyone who wishes to incorporate more peace and simplicity into their Christmas season. Merry Christmas!
Outstanding........1998-07-12
This book along with the nine preceding this one, should be required reading for anyone interested in the day to day living of early days in the south.

Home Design from the Inside Out takes an unusual approach to home design. Author Robin Lennon does away with the standard pictures of lavish interiors and exteriors for you to duplicate in your home, and instead focuses on determining which designs, arrangements, colors, and decorative details will work best for your home, regardless of current trends. Lennon shows you how to make your house feel like home by offering a unique, self-empowering look at home design that places the greatest importance on your tastes, needs, and preferences.
Customer Reviews:
Home Design From The Inside Out/Robin Lennon.......1999-11-17
This is a wonderful book to help you become self aware. There are exercises that you can do to help you determine who you really are & what you really like. There are a broad range of subjects covering this book such as Feng Shui, & Color Therapy. Awesome book!
Read it and decorate your way!.......1998-09-02
I bought this book at a time I was interest in Feng Shui and found out that it really isn't about that afterall - and only one chapter is devoted to that falsehood (as she interprets it - I do believe in the true Chineese Feng Shui - not new age). The rest of the book is very informative for we decorators who believe that you should decorate your home for yourself and its occupants - not for the neighbor. One must be true to oneself and that is what Lennon hopes you aspire too. Peace!
artistic and instructive.......1998-02-10
Finally not just another book about what you should do with your looks or your life. For me, Home Design From the Inside Out made sense of everyday life. Not extravagent lifestyles, or impossible metaphysical demands, but real life, creative, processes which I can practice. Robin Lennon doesn't simplify or reduce these time honored ideas, but uniquely invisions them for how we live today. I highly recomend this book for artists and designers and for anyone looking to revitalize their life design.
Feng Shui Bamboozle.......1997-12-30
If only there was truth in advertising -- then this book would be subtitled "How to sell the public just what it wants to hear." It's just another way to make a profit in New Age circles. This book is another pre-digested New Age primer passed off as the wisdom of Chinese thought. If you are credulous enough to buy and believe books like this, then you obviously aren't a trained artist, interior specialist, or mental health professional, and your idea of "Chinese culture" only goes as far as where you can get good take-out food.
Find a "home for your heart" with the help of Robin Lennon!.......1997-06-04
Robin Lennon must be a very put-together woman! Her advice goes far beyond where to place furniture and which colors go well with others. After reading HOME DESIGN FROM THE INSIDE OUT I found the courage to throw away ancient artifacts from my youth and teenage years that should have gone in the trash long ago! I never thought a book about interior design would be so helpful in my personal life. I learned how to "create a home for my heart", and express my soul and creativity through my surroundings. Open ANY page, and you'll find yourself shaking your head "yes", she's right, I just needed some one to put it to me like that. It's only $14.95, and nearly 300 pages long! Forget that new CD and BUY THIS BOOK

Art Director's Art Director.......2006-09-11
Mike is an artist, photographer and art director.
He can see great talent and know's how to put it to work. He has launched many careers in the process and has kept several great artists alive, by throwing them work, over the years.
Mike has worked with "The Best" in his 50 years of experiencs and has helped shape the present culture by utilizing his, and other's, talents.
This is a great collection of his work, presented with tongue in cheek humor. Totally entertaining and enlightening. Lots of smirks and laughs too. And... some cheesecake as well!
The real king of all media.......2001-02-02
Mike Salisbury has long been one of my heroes, both for his innovative design work and strong knowledge of marketing. This book provides great insight into how Mike approaches a project and why he brings so much more than design talent. And the vivid examples from his extensive portfolio are inspirational, to say the least.
Is that Pamela Lee Anderson on the cover?.......2000-06-21
lotsa big bright pictures! An autobiographical account of this mike salisbury guy, a celebrity art director/graphic design type who came up with some of the most unforgetable commercial graphics and campaigns of the last 30 years (Joe Camel, Rolling Stone magazine, Jurassic Park, and even Micheal Jackson!). The guy's kinda pompous, but I guess that's the gig in the promotion and marketing game. Worth reading!

Here's a recent review from The Sunday Oklahoman (Oklahoma City). "Oklahoma's native son Will rogers drew millions to the movies...The husband-wife team of Richard J. and Mary Buckingham Maturi has put Rogers' movie career in perspective...photos of film scenes add spice to the mixture...The book (Will Rogers, Performer) is a worthy addition to the literature about Will Rogers. Those who have read about him--as well as those who haven't--are bound to profit from it." Dennie Hall, Book Page Editor........Also featured in Entertainment Weekly, on Bloomberg Business Radio, on Oklahoma Public Radio, on Channel 6 TV Tulsa, on KDAL radio Duluth, Minnesota.

I never paid much attention to Will Rogers until I saw his marvelous classic, ''Judge Priest,'' on video. That sentimental favorite made an instant fan of me and left me clamoring for more. Trouble was, with just a couple of exceptions, there were no more. For reasons unexplained, 20th Century Fox, which holds the copyrights to a couple of dozen of Rogers gems, will not distribute them, depriving modern day audiences of the hilarity, wit and wisdom of a true American original. In Will Rogers, Performer, Richard and Mary Buckingham Maturi have provided a delightful and insightful overview of Rogers show business career with a special emphasis on his movies, both silent and talkies. Only a handful of Americans ever saw first hand the famous Will Rogers stage act, but they attended the movies by the millions and Rogers films gave hope to a nation enduring the Great Depression. In words and rare archival photos, the Maturis have provided a portrait of Will at his finest and as Americans knew him best. The volume is the definitive work on a stellar career and until Fox releases the pictures, we don't have much more by which to remember him.
