I always like books where there's this somewhat domineering "Iget my way all the time" prince that meets a head strong woman who refuses to bend to his every wish, and as usual Mrs. Jackson did not disappoint. Every was short and to the point. I read this book almost 4 years ago, so I can;t remember every detail, but I dod remember that I loved it.

All I can say is "WELL NOW". The love scenes were too hot to handle. Excellent read. I've read 5 books from this series. I do believe this is the hottest. Delaney did not have a chance against a man that can make her climax with a kiss. Goodness. I have to research that. ;)
Where Can I Get A Desert Sheikh?!!!!.......2007-03-31
I thoroughly enjoyed the instant, heated attraction between Laney and Jamal. Although, it was definitely a bit unrealistic, who cares. That's what romance is supposed to be! All I want to know is where can I get me a desert sheikh, who will denounce his thrown and alienate his people just for me (if necessary), OKAY!!! Looking forward to reading more about the Westmoreland family. Keep 'em coming, Mrs. Jackson.
Good start to the series.......2006-07-10
I enjoyed this book, it is real bubble gum for the brain, totally unbelievable like most romance stories lol -everyone falls in love instantly, gets married in 4 weeks, and all black women have long, silky hair and a slim figure... Ok apart from that real piece of fiction I enjoyed this, I'm on Stone cold surrender at the moment and look forward to reading about the rest of the Westmoreland family. So far I enjoy more it than the Madaris series and they were a good read. If may be hard to purchase so check out your library.

I have the old books, from waaay back in the late seventies when "women of wonder" came out followed by "more women of wonder"
They are incredibly insightful as not all the world has moved at the same step regarding equality. And anyway... they make a very good read!
I can hardly wait to get my hands on the next volume... from the 70's to the 90's
(while in there I might as well get the old one, my copies are yellowed and getting brittle)

This first of two books in the series about women writing science fiction both satisfies your curiousity and entertains while urging you to get the second book. There are so many things that haven't changed and yet, the stories can at times seem dated. We should be grateful, this means that some progress has been achieved.

This book totally caught me off guard. It examines the gift of speaking in tongues from the authors perspective and does an excellent job of convincing me that this gift is still being used in some areas that way God intended. Very well put together and compelling.

... and it changed my life. I'm now 48 and still Pentecostal. I recommend this book at anyone seeking for a faith that is more than just "believe it or else." This book showed me that there is power in true Christianity.
Couldn't Put This Down!!.......2006-02-07
This was such an intriguing book! A very easy to read story of the author's research into the gift of tongues. Wow! I couldn't stop reading! It was so informative and he asked all the hard-hitting questions that a skeptic would ask. The gift of tongues has been such a curious, freaky, scary thing to me. After reading this book, I am now praying hard to receive this incredible, holy gift!

There's a reason this book has celebrated a 40th anniversary. I was raised Pentecostal and ended up more mainstream as an adult. This book provides an excellent understanding for the reader torn over this topic. It's a heartfelt yet logically sound account of one man's discovery of this very important spiritual gift.

While reading this book, I was stirred anew by how one who thought he would be a bystander - a somewhat casual but intent observer - was drawn to the truth of the person of the Holy Spirit. The book is not written to persuade but with honesty about one man's personal journey into adventure with the Holy Spirit. It is quite riveting.

I think that there are other books that are better guides to decorating. Mary Gilliat herself put together a better book than this one called Mary Gilliat's Interior Design Course.
Pluses:
There are some good descriptions of paint techniques and window treatments.
Minuses:
False advertising-The photos are outdated.
Recommendation:
Buy her other book or another decorating guide.

Showcase book, not much instruction.......2005-07-28
I suppose I didn't read the reviews closely enough but I was surprised that this was a showcase book. I was expecting some instruction but there is absolutely none -- at least not textually. That is not the fault of the author but I'm including this in my comment to clarify for other potential buyers. I am teaching myself design and am not at the level where I can learn just by looking at other examples. I am sure for those with formal design educations or with professional experience this book will hold much more inspiration.
Experiential and college learning.......2004-04-18
Agree that book is a good resource for folks who are expanding their tech skill base. Unfair to trash designers who didn't "get it all" in college. 1) Have been designing myself for 20 yrs +" and I KNOW my skill base requires constant fine tuning. Luckily I enjoy learning. 2) College graphics classes have little time to teach a lot of material, now to include web, much of it conceptual. 3) Print is inherently complex because of its permanence. Have yet to meet a young designer who got the tech stuff in the classroom. That's what internships are for. "Rock on", young designers, you'll be learning forever.

This book is a find and a great visual aide. I haven't seen a book like this since the two-color print book I bought a few years back. To the person who bought this book to learn how to set up documents in photoshop for one color printing: You should have learned how to do that in your graphic design classes in college. If you haven't taken any graphic design classes then you have no business trying to be a designer.

I really think this book deserves a better rating than two stars. This book shows how one color graphics can be beautiful and impactful too. This book is not a book for learning photoshop technique but for learning how to have a good layout with just one color. Person that buy this book to learn about photoshop has found a wrong book. As a graphic designer, dealing with clients want one color graphic most of the time, I find this book very useful.
This is NOT a tutorial.......2002-10-11
If you are considering this book to learn the Photoshop techniques that would allow you to produce documents that appear multi-color but are printed with only one ink, I don't think this will be the book you want. It has a lot of lovely photos of such printed pieces, but other than tell you what software, paper and printing methods were used, there is no instruction in achieving similar results. I expected more of a training approach to teach you HOW to do it, not just show the results.

In a world packed with visual clutter, white space rules. From the classic Doyle Dane Burnbach ad that marooned a tiny Beetle in a huge expanse of blank paper to the all-white cover of the January 1995 issue of Wired magazine, white is an unparalleled attention grabber. Graphic designers prize white space for its connotation of elegance, for the clarity it lends to the printed word, and for the dramatic way it sets off photographs.
For White Graphics, Gail Deibler Finke assembled work by 61 graphic design studios in the U.S. (several of them in cities remote from the trendy coasts), Canada, Mexico, and Europe. While exemplary uses of white space (in projects ranging from annual reports to wedding announcements) make up the largest part of the book, she also devotes sections to white employed as a second or third "color" and the use of white in three-dimensional projects (packaging, airplane graphics, a TV studio set).
A few projects are conceptual standouts, like R&M Associati Grafici's poster for the France '98 World Soccer Championship, in which a field of colored dots (representing spectators in the stadium) forms the outline of the white silhouette of a soccer player. But most of the work shown on these pages is firmly in the mainstream--clean, bright, contemporary solutions that appear to satisfy the clients' needs and make the most of what are often described as small budgets.
Finke's nuts-and-bolts approach will be familiar to readers of HOW, the graphic design magazine to which she is a contributor. Too bad she didn't provide a more focused and historically minded introduction to such a fascinating topic. This is my current favorite resource for page layout, and I've been taking visual notes from it about how I want to lay out my portfolio. So much of what I did in studio was trying to cram as much information as possible onto presentation boards. I find this book refreshing, with much white space for some breathing room. I think that's important when somebody's sitting, pausing to hold your work in their hands, rather than standing and trying to ingest it quickly in a field of other boards trying to vie for attention.

Nature in Design cleverly juxtaposes images of things natural and man-made: an armadillo and the hooded roof of Jørn Utzon's Sidney Opera House, the Finnish woodlands and an interior by Alvar Aalto, a bird's nest and a "cocoon lounge" from the 1960s, a fish skeleton and Santiago Calatrava's Lyon Station. The photographs alone will amuse and amaze, but Alan Powers's book could also serve as an insightful, intelligent introduction to basic principles of design, which are nearly always based on or in reaction to the natural world, as those principles have shifted over time.
Drawing often surprisingly sound connections, Powers examines the patterns and forms found in nature and how man has imitated them (or attempted to do so) since the beginning of human creativity. The double helix form underlies a Renaissance staircase at Pozzo di San Patrizio in Italy; animal skins are imitated in textile designs not only for the aesthetic impact the patterns provide but because they are structurally effective; illustrations in children's books and the colors of traffic signs are conceived and designed with our natural associations to such images and colors in mind.
