Angela Carter, is the premier feminist, but this book wasn't quite for me. I had no idea who Marquis de Sade was until I read this book, and I slightly wish I never had. Angela Carter tries to bring life to De Sade's female characters, which she does, but I just couldn't get passed the section where she talks of the women licking men's butts and being connisiuers of poop. Really, I just wish Marquis de Sade's work would be swept under some carpet and never be read.

Angela Carter (1940-1992) has written a feminist reading of the Marquis De Sade. Carter has also used the work of the Marquis as a springboard for her own insights on the relation of sexuality to power. She is able to demonstrate that sexuality is constructed not from gender but rather form a relationship between power and politics. A must-read feminist classic.

A very thoughtful book which puts Sade's work in a whole new light. Thoughtful, evenhanded and intelligent. This one is worth the read for anyone interested in going beyond the superficial with Sade. There is a lot of nonsensence about him -- finally, someone with something important to say!

Super Reader.......2007-08-07
One of Manticore's less successful experiments, and a nice joke 'Chameleon Boy', has become a serial killer. Evil and twisted Ames White ends up behind it. The Freak Nation has to investigate the case before the army moves in on them, after White's media manipulation.
Thanks to a decent cop, and two ex-subordinates of White's who dislike him about as much as everybody else, more, in their cases, as he was trying to get them bumped off--Max manages to work it out, but not without casualties and kidnappings.
All in all, a decent handling of the characters, again.

Remember those cliff hangers? Well, some finally get answered, not all but some. Overall, it was a good read. If you want some answers from the series go ahead and read. If you want all the answers you need to read the next one.

It's a great book. The way Max Allan Collins managed to get the character's personalities just right is amazing. My only complaint is that Alec should have been a little more of a Smart Alec. But it's still a great book. You should definitely read if you watched the television series.

In this part, Tamad the Prince and Terrillian continue on Tamads quest to unite the planet by visiting all the tribes, while trying to come to terms with his own PSI. Now they visit the Chamad (Queen) of the city of amazons. Here they are all captured and Terrillian must escape and then try to rescue the others by defeating the Chamad of the city. Only to find that she is then their Chamad.
More than just sex 'n bondage erotica. Excellent........1998-03-17
As with the Jalav/Mida series, this line of characters deals with preconceived notions and challenging ones belief system. However, this storyline comes from a viewpoint of priviledge (and the sacrifices that accompany such "priviledge"), and is the typical "little woman" viewpoint so that more of the (feminine) readers can concentrate on the storyline and not be so bowled over by the "masculine" viewpoint coming from a female chracter. Lots of similarity with the Jalav series, but served in a more American culture-friendly viewpoint so that female readers can get the (don't let yourself be trapped by the gilded cage) message without being turned off by the strongly emphatic lead woman's characteristics.

I couldn't decide online and went to the store and bought this book and Better Homes and Garden Bathroom Idea File after flipping through everything in stock. I disagree with the previous reviewer; they do offer suggestions for small baths and modern baths. I was particularly interested in bathroom design ideas for awkward roof angles for the second floor of my bungalow. If you are looking for a how-to book, this isn't it, but it's a good book for dog-earing pages early in the design process.

This book doesn't cater for smaller bathrooms. The pictures shown here are mostly for master bathrooms and doesn't give much focus to guests bathrooms. I find that the styles shown here are very traditional and classic in design. Not much coverage on more modern approaches for bathrooms. Very little coverage for Asian type of bathrooms, you'll find lots of emphasis on the bathtubs instead of shower cubicles.

During its brief existence from 1955 to 1968, the HfG Ulm exerted an influence that no one could have predicted from its small size, improbable location, or short lifespan. Originally conceived as a successor to the Bauhaus, the school quickly abandoned that model and set out to explore the uncharted territory of designing for mass production. Under the direction of Max Bill and Tomas Maldonado, the school became an extraordinary laboratory of design and center of talent. More than twenty years after its closing, Ulm is still considered the most important European school of design since the Bauhaus.
As the advocate of an objective and socially aware design for industry, Ulm fashioned a new generation of objects, tools, and transportation and communication systems. The Ulm style - pearl gray with matte finish, adjustable legs, reduction of ornament to a fundamental and pure geometry of form - is embodied in the familiar Krups and Braun product lines and continues to define the look of today's electronic instruments.
Reviewers of the German edition of this book have compared it to Hans Wingler's book on the Bauhaus - a definitive reference and source, containing a historical account of the school, a descriptive compendium of objects and designs produced there, an assessment of the school's curriculum, a profile of student life, and a roster of the faculty and guest instructors who taught there. This list includes some of the most able and talented people in the field of German design, among them Dieter Rams, Hans Gugelot, and Otl Aicher. The texts by Reyner Banham, Max Bill, Kenneth Frampton, Tomas Maldonado, and others reflect the always vigorous dialogue between theory and practice, and are accompanied by nearly 600 illustrations.
Herbert Lindinger was Professor of Design at HfG Ulm from 1962 to 1968. He is currently Professor and Director of the Institute for Industrial Design at Hanover University.
