A large part of the whole Sidhe political conflict is the issue of succession. This means that whoever of the next generation that can produce a child is likely to get to be the boss, or at least, stay alive.
It doesn't really look too good for Meredith, because she has copious amounts of faerie meat in her bed, but none of them knock her up. Pretty likely, the problem is hers.
We get to see a few Sidhe powers and other information as the Grey agency helps out an actress who is really Sidhe.

Probably one of the most boring books I have wasted time on in recent times. No plot: casual sex that is justified in a puritanical way (we are only being naughty you see, because I want to get pregnant) is no substitute for a story. Endless repetitions of lengthy description - who is wearing what - or not (equally boring). Meetings of several factions without interesting dialogue. The monster and the solution at the end smack of jack hopping out from the box since a built up plot is missing. No excitement, nothing to hold my attention.
Conclusion: One star because the system does not allow to give none. Don't waste your money.

After reading all the Anita Blake novels, I decided to follow along with the Merry books. I have almost an addiction to Ms. Hamilton's novels, regardless if I have become somewhat disenchanted with her Anita Blake series after about the eighth book.
I found Merry to at least start out relatively page-turning and read "A Caress of twilight" in two days.The imagination LKH has is great, but the overabundance of sex can be a little overboard. I find myself sometimes skimming over pages to get past lines like "He rolled his eyes up at me while(something NOT G rated!)". At least I've found this series to have more plot than the last of the Anita series.
Bottom line is if you are a fan of Anita Blake, then you will like Meredith Gentry, but these books are borderline soft porn and not for the fan of Harlequin Romances...
Like watching paint dry.......2007-03-23
I enjoyed the first Meredith Gentry book, so I decided I would continue with the series and see what LKH had up her sleeve. The answer is, plainly, nothing much.
This book reads like I imagine the first book in the series should have. Meredith spends so many time trying to explain the rules and regulations between the fey and the sidhe, the Seelie and the Unseelie, goblins, ghosts, demi-fey, and every other type of creature that it's more like reading an instruction manual to world building than reading a story with actual plot and substance. I understood it the first time it was mentioned that when a noble deliberately neglects to use another's title he's doing the other a grave insult. I get it. But yet every time someone calls Meredith "Meredith" instead of "Princess Meredith" we're reminded of the insult. We also learned in the first novel that it's considered un-PC to use magic against another fey or to not offer a compliment when they are deliberately trying to be attractive. Again, we get it. Yet it's reiterated so many times over the course of the novel, I wonder if LKH had any other intention than to make this story merely an etiquette lesson. I don't appreciate having my time wasted and this was, without a doubt, a waste of time.
This book doesn't allow the Meredith Gentry plot to move forward in any way. It is about Merry's different sexual conquests with her guards (got enough of that in book 1, thank you), her realization that her men don't respect her since she treats them as equals and not as a future queen should (it's about time), and at the last possible moment a subplot with very little bearing on the rest of the book is developed and resolved quicker than you can snap your fingers. As a whole, this book offers nothing to the series and I have to wonder what the point was.
I LOVE LOVE LOVE Sunny's Monere series, and many of the comments indicated that those stories are based on the Meredith Gentry novels. I can see the comparison and, at times, the downright plagiarism employed by Sunny, but if nothing else her books are well-written, entertaining, and once things are said once there's no need to reiterate the point 1000 times. I might just have to stick with those books since LKH so obviously runs hot and cold.

Ok, I admit it--I am getting really disappointed with LKH. The first books she wrote had plots, wonderful characters, good writing and yes, let's admit it, sexy, sexy, S*E*X*Y males. But the last few books she's written have been almost nothing but sex. You almost need note cards to try to keep track of who is sleeping with whom and why. The plot is disappearing, the writing is getting ho hum and the characters are turning into pretty Barbie and Ken's and not real people. With Anita Blake I actually CARED about her, and her choices--at least at first. But the last 3 books I haven't been able to do more than get a couple dozen pages into before I put them aside for something with more exciting in a plot line (like the New York Phone Book.) I did like the first Merry book--it had a GREAT premise and could have been the start of a new dynasty for LKH. But this one just didn't do it. Ok, I liked the idea of trying to figure "which" of the Hollywood sex goddesses of the last 30 or so years could have been the inspiration for that character, but really, other than that--nothing.
I have decided to not bother buying any more of LKH's books and just content myself with checking them out of the library. That way I won't be disappointed and feel I've wasted my money if she doesn't get her writing act back together and start WRITING again instead of rehashing tired old porn.

This is a beautifully composed and illustrated manuscript from an obscure monastery in late Medieval Europe, combining "Medieval style mysticism" with "Renaissance style inquiry" to present a work dedicated to the arcane lore of the unicorn. Selected pages of the manuscript are reproduced (with amazing drawings) and the Latin translated. What I liked most was the layout and atmosphere of the drawings and text which makes a few thousand words and dozen pictures into a great book. A great find!

I loved it. It is a wonderful story, whether it be fiction or not. It is symbolically the story of a seeker of Truth whose messenger is the unicorn. I recommend it to anyone who seriously seeks Universal Truth.
A treasure trove of beautiful Unicorn artwork and more........1998-01-22
Mr. Green has provided a sumptuous feast of color illustrations of the mystical Unicorn in a wide variety of settings, and with the accompanying original text, transports one's imagination to an enchanted, magical land. Though the editions of this book as of this writing are out of print, it is well worth the effort to locate a copy - I prefer the earlier edition where the illustrations were in their original smaller but more vivid appearance. A lovely book throughout.

You Will Believe.......2004-07-25
Michael Green's 1983 Unicornis is one of those magical books that actually makes you believe.
Presented as a fascimile of an ancient Medieval manuscript, the journal of one Magnalucius, member of a mystical fifteenth century order of philosophers and mystics, the Collegium Gnosticum (College of Knowledge), located near Ravenna, Italy, this book is simply magical.
Green presents it as his translation of the ancient Codex Unicornis, entrusted into his safekeeping by one Frater Iamblicus, a member of the Order. The book consists of the fascimile manuscript pages, done up in very authentic-looking Medieval style, and Green's translation of the Latin text. The illuminations and paintings are spectacular! So cleverly crafted and enchanting is this book that, even though I knew it was fiction, I still kept asking myself, Is it possible this could be for real? I even found myself carefully studying the illuminations and paintings in the book, trying to ascertain whether they were authentically Medieval or not. The book is THAT GOOD.
If you want a truly enchanting book that will make you believe in unicorns you simply MUST locate a copy of this book. Medievalists and lovers of fantasy will delight in this book.

Of all the unicorn books that I've read, this is the book I believed in the most. It leaves the reader with awe and wonder. A great cure for doubt and loss of innocence.

This is a wonderous achievment! De Historia et Veritate Unicornis is a book that really a translated version of a 'book' or just some writing/notes (with drawings) about the Unicorn. I am an avid fantasy reader and this book was a great find! Unfortunately, this is out of print, but if you ever find it, make sure to buy it and enjoy its beauty and let yourself believe!

I have been a believer of Unicorns since 13yrs old (I am now 27), and had no material to assist in my understandings. I first found this book in Adelaide (1989), and found it's information to be not just easy to understand but enjoyable too. The beauty of this book, if you can get a copy, is its magnificent pictures, in full color, and its overall feel. The context of the message is allorgerical fiction, but I have found it blends "heresay" and old lore to produce a book on unicorns that informs and entertains. I have owned and given this book away five times so far, it's that good. The information held within it's pages covers the birth of Unicorns, their habits and life-style, and their exit from our world. I have found the more I read this book, the more I get out of it. Definitely recommended to those who already believe and like the imagery and faith of the Unicorn. GOOD READING:Almtree."2000

It is not a resource to copy, but a resource that helps you think through things that you may not have even thought about. It is a resource for covering all of your bases whether it be for a funeral, a wedding, a dedication, or a special event like an ordination.

I love this cookbook!.......2002-05-18
A co-worker loaned me this cookbook in 1996. I tried a couple recipes, loved them, copied the ISBN info, and returned the book with the intent to buy a copy. I left the job, moved, and lost the info. For years I looked in used bookstores hoping to recognize the book when I saw it. I finally found the ISBN in a folder of old papers and promptly ordered the book.
I have loved every recipe I have made from this book. I have to make myself try new ones because I love my regulars so much! I have trouble making up my own recipes, but with several recipes from here, I often adjust and ad lib based on what ingredients I have on hand.
I recently bought another Prevention recipe book from this series and have enjoyed it as well.

I needed to start eating healthier and since I know I like Greek and Italian cuisine, I thought the Mediterranean diet might be the way to go. This book explains this healthful way of eating and cooking. The emphasis is on fruits, vegetables, grains, pasta, fish, seafood and poultry. If you're looking for red meat recipes, this is not the book for you. Most of the recipes can be prepared in 30 minutes or less. Complete nutritional information is provided for each recipe.
I don't believe any of the recipes included any salt so, this would be a boon for those of us who are supposed to cut down on salt. There are a number of terrific muffin, bread, and pancake recipes. The soups, salads, fish, seafood, poultry, and especially the veggie recipes provide a wide variety of choices. My one gripe is that there are very few dessert recipes and the few that they've included, with the exception of the pumpkin pie, were not very appealing to me. The pumpkin pie recipe uses a crust made with gingersnaps and graham cracker crumbs which is quite good and makes it much lower in fat and cholesterol.

This book is very well done and easy to use as a reference guide. It has extensive collections of planters, banks and cookie jars as well as other ware produced by the American Bisque Pottery. The history of the pottery was extensively researched and really interesting. The photography is just fabulous and there are some very rare pieces shown here. In my opinion, having collected cookie jars for over 20 years, I think this book is a "must have" in your research library. If you're like me, you will enjoy looking at it over and over just for the pleasure of it, but it will also help you put together an awesome collection of your own and prevent you from mistaking reproductions for the real thing. In today's world that could save you a bundle! I recommend this book very highly.

I am slowly colorizing a newer off-white condo. I have about a million paint charts in a drawer, and I frequently pull them out and ponder colors, and occasionally I pick out a color and paint a room. I recently borrowed this book from the library, and now I'm buying my own copy. It's a timeless resource on color schemes because it's based on colors found in nature.
The book highlights six schemes - arctic, ocean, forest, earth, desert and kaleidoscope (kaleidoscope is not based on nature). Each scheme is introduced with outdoor photographs, then the color schemes are moved indoors and translated into home decor. The results are awesome, and have really helped me focus my color choices.

For a book on mapping the graphics are of extremely poor quality. It's really amazing that advocates of creative mapping would have so few interesting pictures and so little engaging text. There are a few worthwhile pages but not enough to justify the price of the book. I bought it on the basis of a NY Times review without seeing the book. A mistake.

What a fun book!
Plenty of new views of our connected world plus interviews with the authors/analysts/artists (yes, they are all three) who created the extreme maps.
You would think with the advent of cyberspace that maps would recede to the background and go the way of the floppy disk. No. Mapping is transformed and redefined. Interesting discussion of mapping vs. maps.
This should be a coffee table book in every building where intelligent people congregate.
