Customer Reviews:
Good read and very entertaining..........2005-10-09
I like this book. The only problem I had was why hadn't the author allowed Eric a part in the book and whatever happened to Marvin and Shay? Did BB and Mr. Towers ever get married? She could have focused a little more on these characters since they were a part of CeCe and Nate's life and followed through with some closesure.
ZZZZZ-ZZZZZzzzzzz.......2003-09-13
I could barely keep my eyes open. This book was recommended to me. I liked the title, but the story was so long and drawn out. CeCe was just playing games. The charaters didn't seem real. It read more like a Harloquin Romance novel than a true black christian fiction romance. It didn't flow. Sorry. I cannot recommend this read.
A Good Christian Romance.......2002-10-16
As CeCe Williams heads out to meet the director of Genesis House community center she is prepared to let him know that he had cost her to lose a much needed real estate commission by missing their first meeting. But she is not prepared for Nate Richardson's immediate meaningful apology and she is definately not prepared for a smile that erased any ill will torwards the man who will be her boss for the next couple of months. CeCe finds herself becoming more involved with Nate and the goings on at Genesis House. Nate admits to himself that he wants CeCe and her young son to remain in his life. But before they can come together he and she must share secrets and ask God to help them heal past hurts and accept this gift of love given to them. AWAKENING MERCY is my first Angela Benson novel and my first Cristian romance and I totally enjoyed it. Ms. Benson's beliefs shine through in this beautiful novel of faith, healing and love. I recommend this book.Vannie(~.~)
Entertaining.......2002-09-19
Ms. Benson, I loved this book from cover to cover. I appreciate your style of writing.
God bless

ANOTHER WOMAN'S HUSBAND.......2002-08-24
IF THIS AUTHOR IS A CHRISTIAN, THEN WHY WOULD SHE ENCOURAGE ADULTERY? NATE WAS ANOTHER WOMAN'S HUSBAND EVEN THOUGH HE WAS DIVORCED FROM NAOMI. ADULTERY IS A SIN. BY HIM MARRYING CECE, HE HAS CAUSED HER TO COMMIT ADULTERY TOO. SEE MARK 10:11 AND LUKE 16:18. AND ROMANS 7:1,2,3. THIS LOVE STORY WOULD BE NICE IF ONLY NATE HAD NEVER BEEN MARRIED PRIOR TO MEETING CECE. ALTHOUGH IT WAS ANNOYING THAT SHE OVER DID MOST OF THE SEQUENCES. FOR INSTANCE, IF THEY WENT TO A BASEBALL GAME, SHE SPENT SEVERAL PARAGRAPHS DESCRIBING EVERYTHING! LIKE HOW HE HELD HER HAND AND HOW HE GAZED INTO HER EYES AND HOW DAVID LOVED HIS MASCULINE ARMS PICKING HIM UP, ETC. SO FAR, THERE'S ONLY ONE CHRISTIAN ROMANCE NOVEL THAT I READ THAT WAS SPEAKING THE TRUTH AND THAT BOOK'S CALLED "THAT FAITH, THAT LOVE, THAT TRUST."

Customer Reviews:
Gives a lot of depth to the first two books!.......2007-01-08
In the third installment of the series, Betancourt reveals the depths of the treachery in the Courts of Chaos and their lasting effects on the hero of the series, Oberon and the very universe. The book begins where Chaos an Amber left off just following the creation of the new Pattern. The results of Oberon and his father Dworkin's actions and their part in a much larger plot that threatens to see a new ruler in Chaos and to destroy the very fabric of the universe are revealed. As the plot unfolds the reader is treated to a front row seat for the creation of the what is to become their new family home, Amber itself, and for the development of Oberon into its eventual King.
Betancourt seems much more comfortable with both Zelazney's amazing universe, and with his own characters in this installment. Many things that seemed unclear or unlikely in the first two books are explained by the plot as it takes shape before our eyes. Betancourt's characters really come into their own in this book and are certainly reminiscent of Zelazney's own inspirations.
The book is a wonderful read, a definite page turner, and I would highly recommend it to fans of Zelazney's novels and the Amber universe.
An improvement........2005-10-31
Though better than the first two installments, especially in terms of meshing with the Amber cosmology. It is still generally lacking. The whole story seems generally rushed and fails to really explore anything to any depth. The protagonist remains uninteresting, alternating between ineptitude and over-competence for no clear or identifiable reason.

Book Description
Brains are sizzling in the seventh grade...
The first day of seventh grade is probably the worst day of Duncan Dougal's life. He knows that things are really bad when he finds an alien's hand in a Dumpster and then gets plugged into an alien brain fryer!
Can Duncan find out which of the four new teachers in his school is an alien before his brains get fried to a pulp -- or before the aliens try to fry the whole planet?

Laughed out loud!.......2007-03-15
My girls loved it! PLUS, they get credit for it as an AR book at school! FANTASTIC!!!
Ty ler S/vwjhs book review.......2006-11-09
My review for my teacher fried my brains was a good book. In fact I would recommend it to anyone who has an awkward imagination. The main character Duncan was a curious boy just like me so I can get a feel of what he's going through. Except I've never had an encounter with real live aliens, unfortunately he has. My favorite part of the book was when Duncan got his brains fried. Another good part of the book was when he found the green glob of gloop known as "Poot". Another creepy part of the book was when Duncan was in the dumpster and he found the human hand.
If you like Science fiction then this is a good book for you. This was a funny book and I enjoyed reading it.

My Teacher Fried My Brains.......2005-12-16
I really liked this book because it was very funny and exciting. Also whenever I finished a chapter I did not want to stop reading. And that is unusial for me.My favorite part was when the teacher fried his brains.I really think you should read this book because I do not like very many books and I liked this one.
More worthwhile but not as fun as My Teacher is an Alien.......2003-12-06
This sequel to Bruce Coville's popular My Teacher is an Alien reunites us with Susan Simmons, the protagonist and narrator of the first book, Peter Thompson, her brainy science fiction-loving friend, and Duncan Dougal, class bully and somewhat questionable ally in the previous adventure involving the kids' sixth grade teacher being replaced by a big green alien in disguise. Duncan was an important yet secondary character in the first book, but he takes center stage in My Teacher Fried My Brain. The story itself isn't as exciting as that of its predecessor, but I love the angle that Coville took in returning to this world of adventure. There is a definite psychological component to this story, one providing insight into why Duncan behaves in such a disruptive matter - there is a real, pretty nice person in there just dying to get out. Duncan now becomes a sympathetic character from the very first page, as we get a good look at his home life and see how this translates into his own behavior around other kids. It bothers Duncan to no end to be unable to control his mouth and (sometimes) fists; even when he is doing something stupid that will just get him into trouble, he is inwardly berating himself as he is doing it. The one thing that Duncan hates more than anything in the world is to be laughed at; this is a feeling all children as well as adults know a little something about, making Duncan a character that anyone can connect to in some way.
The kids are now in seventh grade, and Duncan's first day in a new school building is a rough one; as always, he finds trouble, and this time trouble reaches back and finds him as well. He makes a startling discovery - a discarded human hand which, upon closer inspection, turns out to be a fake human hand. That can only mean one thing: there is another alien at the school. Like Susan in the first book, Duncan does not know what to do. He knows no one will believe him, not even his classmates; you would think the adults in town might be of some help, but they have all started pretending that the alien business of last spring didn't actually happen. Duncan soon thinks he has found the answer to his problems. After taking part in a demonstration of static electricity, one in which a machine zapped his brain, he began to feel smarter all of a sudden; he soon decides to sneak in to the lab and give himself additional brain-frying treatments. Despite all of his new-found intelligence, though, he has little success in figuring out who the other alien in school is. The ensuing action is not bad, plus we meet a memorable and mysterious alien pet called a poot, but a few aspects of this story resemble pretty closely the strange events chronicled in Coville's previous book, My Teacher is an Alien. The manner of Peter's "return" is especially weak, in my opinion.
If you want to read this book, I definitely encourage you to buy all four books in the series. My Teacher Fried My Brain has a cliffhanger kind of ending that leaves a great deal unresolved. It's a fun ride with great friends, though, so most young people who read this book will surely want to dive right in to My Teacher Glows in the Dark to see what happens next.

OUR MOST CATHOLIC AND BLESSED PEACEMAKER THE REV FATHER JOHN DEAR PRESENTS GANDHI.......2006-11-14
We are very fortunate to have available this compilation of Gandhi's word collected by the Jsuit Father John Dear in this excellent publication by the longstanding and highly qualified Catholic Publishing House Orbis Books, an organ of the MAryknoll MIssionary Society, for whom my uncle served as priest overseas forty yaers until a debilitating stroke struck him down five years ago.
Father JOhn DEar is best known for not only his actions for peace, including as the head of Pax Christi and the Fellowship of REconciliation, but also for the many works he has written, including Disarming the Heart: Towards a Vow Of Non-Violence (which for a Christian shoudl be redundant anyways!). In this ADvent season we do well to contemplate his Mary of Nazareth: Prophet of Peace. And in the midst of all this activity he found time to compile the writings of Gandhi, in the year 2002 when surely he felt the call to more direct actions.
What more lasting and direct action for peace and Christian love could he possibly take than this collection of Gandhi? Now at this discount how can we afford in this fallen day and age not to take it to heart?
Please take advantage of the excellent amazon Search Inside feature to study at least the Table of Contents and you will find everything you have wanted to know. Not only does he provide an excellent summary of the life and impact of Gandhi, but then develops along the essential themes his thought and prayer. There is of course and obviously to many the parallels with the Sermon on the Mount which helps us CAtholics the more to understand our call as Catholics to peaceful action in this violent world.
Especially important to us as Americans as our nation sinks under its exponentially increasing inequities brought on by the current administration is the pages devoted to "Steadfast Resistance", in particular the chapter entitled, "Obeying the Divine Law, Resisting Unjust Laws (pages 152 ff.)" which find echo sixty years later in the COnciliar document Gaudium et Spes, which describes why no Catholic can support our Iraqi involvement directly nor indirectly:
Gaudium et spes gives the specific admonition:
"Every act of war directed to the indiscriminate destruction of whole cities or vast areas with their inhabitants is a crime against God and humanity, which merits firm and unequivocal condemnation."
Thus must we Catholics condemn absolutely our war against Iraq which goes back though the long war of attrition to papa Bush in 1990, which has caused over a million Iraqi deaths, women and children in their bloodied beds, and carpet bombing wiping out the ancient city of Fallujah, etc. all for profiteering privateering petroleum piracy.
Further Gaudium et spes states unequivocally:
"If civil authorities legislate or allow anything that is contrary to the will of God, neither the law made nor the authorization granted can be binding on the conscience of the citizens since God has more right to be obeyed than man."
God commands: Thou shalt not kill.
We cannot kill a million Iraqi citizens, women and children in their beds, for the sake of privateering petroleum piracy. We cannot be involved in this genocide in any way shape or form. We in fact are obligated to work and speak strongly against it. Pope John PAul II was first in condemning the aggressive invasion of Iraq.
I cannot urge you enough to consider this substantial volume for your spiritual and Catholic library, as the Reverend Father John Dear so well and intelligently and spiritually interprets for us directly from the primary sources the life and philosophy, the love and non-violent action of this Great Soul. I can think of no finer book on Gandhi available today. I can think of no more crucial message for us today, who have grown deaf and blind by the brilliance of the Sermon on the Mount and need to see it through refractions from a similar source to find our own Faith and grace-filled Action.
Do unto others what you want them to do to you.
Sounds like something you never have to think about while it is all you need to think about.

Book Description
Can a regular diet of tomatoes, soy products, and cruciferous vegetables help ward off cancer and heart disease? Can meals really heal? With increasing frequency scientific studies are responding with a resounding "yes." It has been general knowledge for years that vitamin C prevents scurvy and calcium helps build strong bones. But this pales in comparison to recent discoveries concerning phytonutrients and nutraceuticals. Garlic, for example, contains compounds that may reduce blood pressure and lower cholesterol levels. Broccoli contains substances that may help prevent cancer. Meals That Heal takes the latest scientific data on these substances out of the lab and puts it into the kitchen.
Presents a compilation of the most recent research on the proven benefits of various foods along with charts and graphs that relate this research to specific diseases.
More than 100 recipes for creating healthy and delicious meals include the healing properties of the foods and the benefits we can obtain from them.

Extremely informative.......1999-02-26
I bought this book after taking classes in making lightship baskets locally, and must admit that without it I would not have been able to continue making them at home. The history of the baskets is excellent, and colored photographs of baskets as well as the island of Nantucket are numerous throughout the book. If you are at all interested in baskets, this book is a must!
WOW! Great job Martha.......1998-10-23
I took a class by Martha Two yrs. ago that was great to. It was at the MBA in Grand Rapids MI. The book is just as good if not better. The history is something I always wanted to know about . Thank You Martha for such a wonderful book . C. M. Miller Bay City MI.

Book Description
Take a chronological tour of bath and powder rooms and watch as they evolved from converted closets to luxury centers for leisure and relaxation. 20th Century Bathroom Design by Kohler is an invaluable reference to the best in bathroom design during the twentieth century. More than 400 images are presented here, drawn from advertising and designer rooms created for the nation's leading plumbing manufacturer, Kohler Co. of Kohler, Wisconsin. Included are the unforgettable images from the groundbreaking advertising campaign, "The Bold Look of Kohler," as well as the wonderful artwork resulting from a century of arts patronage. That art has extended to Kohler's products as well, samplings of which are shown here, including painted designs for toilets and sinks, matching tiles, and master- crafted wooden bathroom vanities. Hundreds of the early products are pictured and identified to help homeowners and collectors identify their antique plumbing. Photos and artwork also provide a tour of bathroom design through time, portraying state-of-the-art rooms that pre-date World War II, and picturing post-war styles that scream '50s, '60s, and '70s. Plus, there's an entire gallery of contemporary bathroom design with nearly 150 photos.
Customer Reviews:
Cool retro pics.......1999-02-20
I bought this book for decorating ideas, and it was really useful. But what I really love most about this book is the old pictures. It's got all these old bathroom ads of what what spiffy in bathroom design way back when. The pastels of the early years. Then the wild avocado green and tiger lily yellow. Outrageous!
