J. R. R. Tolkien, author of The Lord of the Rings, said that his writing was inspired and influenced by the books of William Morris. This book contains two of Morris's best loved books: The House of the Wolfings and The Roots of the Mountains.
Customer Reviews:
Disappointed by format.......2005-04-02
The House of Wolfings and The Roots of the Mountains, published together in one volume, by William Morris.
I enjoy Morris's work very much. The style is high, archaic, and, to my taste, very beautiful. So I am grateful that Inkling Books is once again making his works available. If I were rating the story alone, I would have given it 5 stars.
What is extremely disappointing, however, is that this edition (that contains both the House of Wolfings and The Roots of the Mountains) is almost torture to read due to the formatting. I have to strain to read the text. The type is a thin 9 pt font, which frequently goes into an even thinner italics. The pages are two columns, and the margins are small. Each page is a large 9.5 in height, and 7.5 in width. The net effect is that the open book looks more like a forbidding text book with tiny type than it does a work of enjoyable literature.
The terrible format has taken away the pleasure I am sure I could have had reading these stories. I recommend people look to purchase these works of Morris in separate editions, both of which Inkling Books does in fact offer (which I am led to hope, from the higher page numbers per story, are more felicitously formatted). I also think Inklings Books should make known the (unfortunate) nature of the formatting of the text in their advertisement of this one volume edition. Personally, I'd take it off the market altogether so that poor fools like myself would not accidentally purchase it over the more standardly formatted, and hence readable, editions.

A Great Read.......2007-09-18
Dan Slott is one of my favorite graphic novel writers and his work on "She-Hulk" perfectly demonstrates why.
"She-Hulk, Volume 1" is how the traditional superhero graphic novel for adults should be written. Along with the "Justice League" work that Keith Giffen, J.M. DeMatteis, and Kevin Maguire did, Dan Slott's work on "She-Hulk" defines the traditional superhero graphic novel for adults. His writing in "She-Hulk" is full of sharp dialogue, timely humor, and an understanding that the traditional superhero story for adults normally works best when it is not taken seriously, and when the story focuses more on character interaction rather than superheroics.
She-Hulk (aka: Jennifer Walters) works at a law firm that defends superheroes. This is a great concept when you consider all the collateral damage and civil rights violations that superheroes inflict. And Slott takes this concept and runs with it to tell an incredibly amusing story. Juan Bobillo does the majority of the illustrations and while I'm not a huge fan of his, his artwork works well for "She-Hulk." His light and comical art fits the type of story that "She-Hulk" is. "She-Hulk" is one of the few stories--graphic novel or otherwise--that is so well written that I can read it more than once. It's a shame that more graphic novels aren't written this well; I recommend "She-Hulk, Volume 1" to all adults.
Great Story, Spotty Art.......2007-08-08
She-Hulk has been described often as a character who turns convention on its head - a strong, self-possessed female character (best drawn and written by John Byrne in the late 1980s and early 1990s), she revels in the fact that she is a superhero and tries to show that, yes, it actually is pretty easy bring green. In many respects, she is the exact opposite of the Hulk. That, however, was before this volume. Dan Slott takes an insightful (and, I suppose, postmodern) look at She-Hulk. Splitting time between her work as a lawyer and member of The Avengers, Slott starts out by portraying Shulkie as a party girl who has let her celebrity and joie de vivre for superheroics get the best of her - to the detriment of her reputation as both a lawyer and a superhero. Turning the John Byrne model of She-Hulk on its head, Slott paints her as a woman whose superheroism is more a liability than a benefit.
And this is where the fun begins - hitting rock-bottom, Shulkie is offered a job in a legal firm dealing in (as a later volume so aptly puts it), "superhuman law" - but only if she can hack it as her alter-ego, Jennifer Walters, not as the jade giantess. Cases hilarious and poignant comes across her desk, and Slott seems never to tire of taking Busiek-like liberties with the mechanics of the superheroic. And all the while Jennifer must deal with the fact that maybe, just maybe, the superpowers she thought were giving her an edge might just be holding her back.
The only thing holding this volume back is the art. The issues in this volume (and in volume #2) are split between a more conventional (and, to my taste) preferable illustration style and one that is more impressionistic in its interpretations of beloved Marvel characters. To each his own, but I would have preferred that they picked an artist and stuck with them. All in all, however, this is a great addition to anyone's graphic novel library - fun, fresh, and often hilarious, "Single Green Female" is not to be missed.
love she hulk.......2007-05-13
She-hulk is one of the sexiest characters around her stories are fun.
"Judge Gibson...I'm going to need a brief recess. I have to go...save the world.".......2007-04-01
In the superhero universe, Jennifer Walters, the She-Hulk, has always lurked somewhere in the periphery of my attention. For long decades, I've regarded her as a second rate, female version of her cousin, the Hulk, and I felt no need whatsoever to follow her adventures. But, partly on a whim and partly because of Adi Granov's art cover, I put money down on SHE-HULK: SINGLE GREEN FEMALE. I'm so glad I did!
Marvel Comics' SHE-HULK: SINGLE GREEN FEMALE reprints the first six fabulous issues of our jade giantess's 2004 series. The first issue isn't very kind to our girl. It reveals how She-Hulk's endless partying finally causes her to be kicked out of the Avengers' mansion and also how her superhero lifestyle gets her terminated from her law firm. But, in her bleakest moment, Jennifer is offered a place in the most prestigious firm on the east coast, Goodman, Lieber, Kurtzberg, & Holliway. The caveat presented to her is that, in the offices of the firm, she must, at all times, be in her civilian guise. Jennifer, who always prefers to be in her She-Hulk form, nevertheless, accepts.
The following issues go on to reveal that Goodman, Lieber, Kurtzberg, & Holliway isn't your average law firm but, rather, one which specializes in "superhuman law" and boasts the credo: "When the laws of reality are broken, we shall find solutions thru the laws of man." Jennifer is initially concerned (she wanted to work in a "respectable" firm) but gradually comes to appreciate the odd and unpredictable intricacies of her new job.
The cases themselves are decidedly not of the run-of-the-mill variety. Plenty of guest stars here as Jennifer finds herself hobnobbing with Dr. Strange, the Thing, Dr. Pym, and the Avengers. Her work cases number, among others, a ghost who demands his day in court and Danger Man, a disgruntled radioactive man who wants to file a class action suit against the company that gave him his superpowers. The funniest story here is when Spidey decides to sue J. Jonah Jameson for libel - this issue cracked me up all way through. And I'll tell you what, when the last two issues of SINGLE GREEN FEMALE decided to focus more on a massive supervillain prison breakout instead of the litigating aspects, it actually disappointed me.
In the course of these six issues, She-Hulk gathers about her a cast of eccentric supporting characters: Ditto, the jokey resident shapeshifter; Stu Cicero, nerdy master of the long boxes (more on that later); fellow attorney Augustus "Pug" Pugliese; and the very cool Awesome Andy (formerly super baddie, the Awesome Android). On the romantic side, a certain man-wolf/astronaut enters the picture while a hunky co-worker harbors a secret crush. Of course, Jennifer only sees the co-worker as a friend. Figures.
But it ain't all roses for She-Hulk. Sure, she now has job satisfaction and has even become more accepting of her drab, non-powered identity, but saddled with that is her ongoing rivalry with Mallory Book, the "barracuda lawyer with supermodel looks." Additionally, it turns out that Jen may not have been hired solely for her ability to make an argument. When the firm's boss's super villain granddaughter, Southpaw, is finally brought into custody, Jen learns the underlying reason.
Now, about those "long boxes." This is a pretty neat conceit thought up by writer Dan Slott and, in a way, is consistent with the She-Hulk's past habit of breaking down the fourth wall. The attorneys of the "superhuman law" branch of the firm rely greatly on research done via comic books, which are kept in long boxes. Apparently, most of the superheroes have licensed Marvel Comics to narrate their exploits in comic book format. Now, Marvel comic books before 2002 carry the seal of the Comics Code of America, which is a federal agency. Thus, Marvel comics are admissable in any court of law.
I haven't read She-Hulk's prior series incarnations, so I can't compare writer Dan Slott's superb work here with any of her other chroniclers. With regards to Mr. Slott, the man has a deft and light storytelling touch; he makes his court room scenes as much fun as his pages depicting the supervillain beat downs. He takes the time to delve into Jennifer's psyche and shows the reader that there's so much more beyond our heroine's shallow party girl image. Here, it's clear early on that She-Hulk's normal alter ego, Jennifer Walters, will play a very key role and that the big focus of the series will be on her vocation of attorney. Mr. Slott maintains a nice balance in shifting back and forth between Jennifer's more human side and her more extroverted, super strong persona.
Juan Bobillo's delicate and distinctive artistic style perfectly complements the breezy touch of the narrative; sadly, Paul Pelletier comes in for pencilling duties for the last two issues and gums up the works with his heavier handed artwork. Paul's art doesn't exactly suck but his style proves to be too jarring in the wake of Bobillo's finesse work. But never mind Paul Pelletier. Overall, the end result is that the She-Hulk has now become, for me, one of the most interesting characters in comic books and her series definitely one of the most readable and most FUN out there. So give this one a try, why don't you? Me, I've already ordered the next three She-Hulk volumes.
One of the BEST new comics to come out of Marvel in years!.......2006-03-20
I decided to give the first collection a try. I am so glad I did! These stories go against all of the current trends in comics today. Where other comics are mostly dark,
After hearing a lot of positive word of mouth about the new She-Hulk book I violent, and depressing, the stories in She-Hulk are creative, hopeful, and genuinely funny. Instead of getting one long, padded out story, you get one story after another in She-Hulk. I really felt like I got a lot of value for my money.
I've been reading comics for some time, but I've never really been interested in She-Hulk as a character. She always seemed very one note to me, just a big, green, female superhero. In this collection I was amazed to see how much character She-Hulk (and her alter-ego, Jen Walters) really had. She's a really fun and fleshed out person who lives in a fantastical, over the top world.
The main thrust of this series is that She-Hulk isn't just a superhero, she's a superhero-lawyer. And the fun comes from watching her work on cases that could only take place in a superhero world. There's a ghost who wants to testify at his own murder trial. There's an adventure that takes place at a dollhouse sized prison where they shrink supervillians. And in one of the funniest comics I've read in years, She-Hulk helps Spider-Man sue the Daily Bugle for all the times they've slandered him. I can't think of any other comic I've read that has been crammed full of so many different and clever ideas!
The art in this book is by two different artists. Both have their strengths and weaknesses. I liked the humor and weird approach of the first artist, and the more traditional comic book style of the second artist. But I think I might have liked it even more if just one artist did the art straight through the entire book.
If you enjoy a good read and you like fun in your comics, you owe it to yourself to buy this book!

A great plot told by a weak author.......2006-07-28
As a Christian and a fan of science fiction, I had great hopes for Solar Flare as I opened the book and began to read. Christian art in all its forms is used to glorify God and/or as a vehicle to present ideas about the faith. Solar Flare is Mr. Burkett's means to discuss ideas about society from a Christian perspective. If you do not want to hear those ideas, do not buy this book.
The book is an easy read and is suitable for young readers however, the pacing is slow to begin with and that my challenge new readers.
The effect of massive solar flares on society and technology is a great topic for science fiction but, unfortunately, Mr. Burkett is not a great science fiction writer. While I have learned much and enjoyed reading several of Larry Burkett's books on finance there is a huge difference between writing non-fiction and fiction. When writing fiction you want to show the story through thoughts, setting, action and description. Non-fiction writers usually just tell the story. Mr. Burkett largely tells us the story, just as he had done in many of his earlier non-fiction books.
One earlier review said Mr. Burkett, "SCREAMED points that should have been whispered." I agree. There is better Christian Science fiction available that presents ideas of the faith in a less preachy manner.
Sadly, I cannot recommend Solar Flare. I hope that someday a Christian author will take this topic and create a better science fiction story.

The Second Half Sure Beats the First Half!.......2005-02-20
Like all the serious readers, I struggled to get through the first half of the book. Great idea, but awfully communicated. Worst writing I have seen in years.
But get to page 250-300, and it actually gets good. The plot develops, the story is decent. It even makes sense!!! Kinda like The Little Prince, the cover (or first half of the book) is meant to discourage the timid reader.
Thinly veiled political trash.......2004-12-04
Burkett's novel Solar Flare is nothing but strident conservativism thinly disguised as speculative fiction. Not worth buying. Or, if you like this sort of thing, just pick up a copy of The Turner Diaries.
Great book, shows how people must make important descisions.......2003-05-08
I love this book! yes it is easy to read, but it shows how some people must make descisions fast to survive. It shows how a solar flare hits earth and everything electrical dies. How people all over the USA have to move to camps and we can relate this to our time now and how we must be thankful for what we have and should not waste it. It is good for a non-beliver just getting to know Jesus Christ and how others deal with it too. And tells some really cool fight scenes and how people in our world can be so vile. Hope this was helpful!Good book!
P.S. What book was "reader from Havelock" reading????.......2002-12-10
I read this book (see my review) and was totally replused by it.
I saw these other reviews after I had already written mine. I don't know what the guy from Havelock was reading, but it wasn't the same book I read.
This book contains gleeful accounts of numerous acts of violence, though mostly after the fact. A female Supreme Court Justice who acts to oppose the President in this story is murdered and and it is brushed off as just too bad. A member of congress who "casts an envious eye upon powers of the office of the presidency" (my words, not the author's, but the point is obvious in the text)loses and eye, literally, and is left little more than a vegetable from brain damage, this is again brushed off with a laugh by that same President.
This is violence in its worst form -- presented as righteous payback and treated as a big joke. This book reads as if it were written by a White Supremisist -- every bit as rabid as Osama Bin Laden in his hate of those unlike himself -- "anointed by God" to straighten out the heathen or kill them which ever proves most needful at the time.
I am, as I said in my full review, a devout christian mom and a writer as well. I am not a whiny liberal. I am absolutely pro-life, pro-marriage, pro-monogamy, pro-premartial abstinence, and over-whelmingly anti-welfare. I am known in my community for speaking out for the rights of christians to practice their religious faith openly in public schools. I prayerfully vote republican.
This book is NOT what I would want my kids, or any one else's either, exposed to.

Billed as a training manual for entering Earth's future, Something in This Book Is True is about harnessing the personal power inside each of us. It's a companion to Frissell's earlier effort, Nothing in This Book Is True, but It's Exactly How Things Are, about which Jay Kinney of Wired said, "despite the sheer unbelievability of half the book, the author's goodwill and spiritual intentions are so infectious that the book ends up being a heartwarming experience." In the first book, Frissell took New Age sentiments and blended them with conspiracy theories in an attempt at a unified theory, including alien grays, cattle mutilations, crop circles, the Great Pyramid, Sacred Geometry, and secret colonies on Mars. In Something in This Book Is True, he takes time to retrace that particular history and leads readers into the realm of the millennial future. Of note to those interested in comics artists are the six full-page illustrations by underground artist Spain.
Book Description
A training manual for navigating a future full of danger and hope, this book considers earth changes, pole shifts, Hopi prophecies, the secret government, and much more. Written in Bob Frissell's warm, personal style with updated commentary, this book coverstopics such as polarity consciousness, emotional body clearing, and higher selves while showing the reader that humanity is composed of spiritual beings having a human experience, not vice versa. This new edition includes photos and illustrations throughout.

Funny and Touching........2005-09-18
This is easily my favorite of Bob's books. His facts are way off but the Something true in this book is well worth it. The personal story about EST and getting it is hilarious, as well as the line about him managing to not lock himself out of his car. His encounter with Babaji seems genuine and hearwarming. Skip the "facts" in this one and just listen to Bob's journey. He's a cool guy.
Le Sigh..........2004-08-11
Sadly, I was disappointed. Like an earlier reviewer stated, the first half of the book is very interesting and informative, but the second half is bland to say the least.
During the first half, Frissell touches on topics such as the greys, sirians, atlantis, kennedy assassination, etc. but the second half is nothing but a boring and incomprehensible synopsis of rebirthing sessions.
However, on a side note, the topics he touched on did remind me to buy books more focused on topics I was interested in.
His first book, _Nothing_in_This_Book_is_True,_But_it's_Exactly_How_Things_Are_ is a more interesting and informative read.
A superb companion to Frissell's first book........2004-01-24
I actually enjoyed this book more than Frissell's first ("Nothing in this Book is True..."). His writing is sharp, even a bit funny, and the information is very concise--a rarity with books this ambitious. The second half of the book is particularly compelling, where Frissell discusses his own experiences with EST, rebirthing, Babaji and various other metaphysical/spiritual thought systems. I read it like a primer on these different subjects, and it has saved me from having to research them to death myself. My only issue is that I now have to buy the book again to read the expanded, revised version.
I have not read it yet.......2001-09-14
Do you have it in spanish ?

Historical insight into Creole life one hundred years ago.......2000-05-14
As stated on the inside jacket, the book dates back nearly 100 years; started in 1900. The information and idiosyncracies of the local dialect are treasures alone. The recipes' collection is unrivaled. Must reading for any cuisine historian.
Historical Cooking.......2000-05-12
And hysterical if you're reading how to skin the squirrel before you cook it! A fantastic book with authentic Louisiana recipes originally published in 1947. Adapt those recipes that call for cooking on the hearth or for large quantities -- the jumbalaya would feed an army. Great food history as well as great food.

In Tracy Porter's world, decorating choices don't have to be permanent, and even the mud room is pretty. Her combination of vintage collecting and do-it-yourself crafting is appealing no matter what your budget, so grab your paintbrushes and prepare to gild a few lilies with Tracy Porter's Home Style.
The majority of the book showcases her own home and often shows the same piece of furniture in different settings--sometimes even with a completely different look. Each section includes short lists of "Tracy's Tips," which offer simple suggestions on everything from placing candles in the kitchen to effective uses for throw pillows. The feel is lush but also fun and flexible; she admits to mistakes like glossy black floors (they don't work too well with pets and kids!) while at the same time encouraging readers to take a few risks and paint the dining room that deep color they've been craving. Doorknobs, drawer pulls, light plates, and windows are all fair game for decorating, and the last chapter gives plenty of specific details for projects as small as hot-gluing a new tissue box and as large as refinishing a pair of chairs. If rich fabrics, striking colors, and a sense of play are what inspire you, this book provides all the incentive you need to have fun with decorating. --Jill Lightner

Pure delight, a creative adventure.......2005-12-29
I'll read anything by Tracy Porter that I can get my hands on. Her approach to home decor - as well as her approach to life itself -- is a creative breath of fresh air. Unlike so many other decorating pros today, Tracy is truly innovative, fresh, and artistic. Her style is like no other, and always contains elements of surprise and delight. Tracy invites us to look at our homes in new ways, and to treat day-to-day living, even ordinary moments, as an art form. Can't wait for more books from this remarkably talented, joyful woman.
FUN!.......2003-09-11
This book is great! Why be boring with the same kind of decorating everyone else does? It's time that we all have some fun with our homes. A little whimsy is nice. It makes you feel good.It May even bring a smile to your face when you come home from a hard day. Wonderful book!
nothing new.......2003-01-07
I have to say I was disappointed with this book. I can't believe that Tracy Porter can live in a house decorated like hers with three small children. She must be living in a fantasy world just as she aspires to. I actually did read through the whole book and found nothing unusual or creative in Tracy's tips section or in the "make it section". In fact, maybe I should write a book. It seems anybody can.
The only person in the US who doesn't know who she is!.......2002-07-27
My affair with this book is love-hate.
I never heard of Tracy Porter or her 'style' until the publisher sent me a beautifully designed shopping bag filled with catalogs showcasing her retail items and the gift of a personal teapot cum cup & saucer -- very clever.
The items from her retail line are much cleaner and more mainstream than the pictures in this book which purports to be from her home.
What Tracy does is give the reader permission to take things out of the 'keeping for good' closet and use them everyday. That's good.
What she also does, and I'm sick to death of it, is use items that have seen better days. If I see one more piece of distressed furniture or one more chipped painted chandelier I'm going to scream.
People -- reupholster your furniture! If something's ripped, fix it. Unless your furniture sports real antique fabrics or finishes or is showing true wear and tear from daily use, repair it. Enough I say!
Tracy bravely uses color in her home. I do think there's too much of a mish-mash in many of the rooms, but that's my personal taste and not necessarily bad.
The other problem I have with this book is this home supposedly has three small (under 4 years old) boys living in it. Yet, there is pin a cushion on chair seat (a delight to the eye), a faux leopard throw hanging off a chest (on top of which sit four painted glasses and a matching glass martini shaker), lampshades with antique buttons hot-glued around the rim, and a dresser top filled with a letter opener, very, very small porcelain dolls, perfume bottles, and hat pins, to name a few.
I hope as soon as the photographer left Tracy ran through the house clearing off all these potential accidents waiting to happen.
There is a very short project section which gives instructions on how to make some of the items shown in the book. If you're a fan of decorating books, magazines, or shows you've seen them all before.
What I did appreciate is the resource directory at the back of the book. In alphabetical order it lists many of the places you can buy nice home design items. Where there is a web site available, it is included, so you're not forced to call.
Tracy Porter's Home Style: Creative and Livable Decorating I.......2002-06-14
What a beautiful book this is. The photography is wonderful and the thoughts are inspiring. It touches the heart of those who love old things. It brings a touch of romance into our lives. This is a perfect book with great ideas that can help you to create a lovely home. Ms. Porter said, "surrounding yourself with loveliness." Now that is truly a gentle thought to behold.

Did you know that taking a shower rather than a bath was at one time considered eccentric. Then again, there was a time when it was impractical to take a bath on a daily basis and a portable bathtub was brought into a room and filled by hand with water heated on a fire.
And then, today we can experience the Jacuzzi shower or are concerned more about the environment to the extent that a shower becomes a water salvaging experience. A shower does in fact use much less water than running a full tub of water.
This book will help you turn your ideas into a reality. Have you ever thought of a full circle tub? How about a corner bathtub to save space? Then, have you considered turning your bathroom into your own personal spa with hydrotherapy?
Would you consider using hand-colored tiles or would you prefer wood flooring? IS carpet out of the question? Find out the advantages and disadvantages of each floor covering you might want to consider.
If you turn to page 52, you will see an unfitted bathroom plan that is just amazingly cute. Here you have a "bathing atmosphere." A tub next to a fireplace, a place to sit in an armchair to apply lotions or just to relax with a book and heated towel racks. Why are more bathrooms not created this way?
For the creative parent, there are some cute ideas for a 3-D design complete with an underwater kingdom that would delight any young child.
A directory of useful names and addresses gives you access to brochures or extensive catalogs.
Practical and Inspirational.

Customer Reviews:
Take it from Sid, he was There.......2002-08-01
Sid Bernstein is the legendary impresario that brought the Beatles to America. He presented the original Beatles American debut at Carnegie Hall, as well as the Shea Stadium concerts. As the title, suggests, The Beatles are not all there is to this promoter's career. Bernstein also promoted Tony Bennett's first Carnegie Hall appearance, a series of Judy Garland concerts, Richard Pryor's first times in front of a large audience and more. Bernstein briefly headed The Newport Jazz Festival, brought the Bay City Rollers to American and took The Rascals to England. As a result of these associations, this autobiography becomes a history of the formation of American pop music into a stadium-filling sensation. These stories populated by figures like Woody Allen, Tito Puente and Miles Davis are told in a engaging, personal manner. That is Arthur Aaron extracted these stories from Bernstein and presents them to us in language warm and natural, as if Sid were telling us himself over dinner.
Awesome..........2001-06-19
What an incredible book. Sid was the first "Rock Impressario". The book details not only his responsiblity for the British invasion but also his life...from a child to his current status. Sid did it all...from the Newport Jazz Festival to Carnegie Hall. And somewhere in the middle is the amazing story of how he found and brought the Beatles to America..long before Ed Sullivan even knew they existed. A warm and touching story about the man who truly is responsible for Rock and Roll in the 60's and 70's...and even influenced music today. The book is easy to read and the stories are told as if Sid and the reader were having a conversation over dinner. What a great book!
A wonderful weekend read.......2001-05-24
If you're looking for a great read for the beach or a long flight, buy this book. It's tremendous fun. I was genuinely sorry when I reached the end. The authors convey the excitement that seems to have characterized the earlier years of rock. I can't wait to read it again
Not Just the Beatles-Sid Bernstein.......2001-03-05
If you are a beatles fan you must read this book. Sid takes us behind the scenes with many stories about the beatles and the concerts (shea, carnegie hall),and his encounters with them over the years. He also shares his life with us from the his years in the war to his roots in the promotion-manager area. Sid was responsible for such artists as the Rascals,Tony bennett, abba,& many others. If you love music this book is a nice look at these artists and how they were represented and in many cases what has happened to them. All well written thanks to Arthur Arron's great translation of sids stories. Sid is a warm sincere guy and this book is like sitting down over a cup of coffe and danish and having him tell it all to you..Thats how comfortable and easy going it is.. A MUST READ FOR ANY BEATLES OR MUSIC LOVER.
Sid Bernstein is the world's best kept secret!.......2001-02-06
Arthur Aaron has captured all the elements of Sid Bernstein's life. In fact, his story reads like a Hollywood motion picture: Sid's humble beginnings on the streets of New York, his early love for quality entertainment, Sid's devotion to his loving parents and family, WWII, his uncanny abilities to discover and promote talent and offer it to an eagerly awaiting world, Sid's promotion of The Beatles at Carnegie Hall and Shea Stadium, and his years as a manager for the Young Rascals. Throughout Sid's career, the biggest names in show business crossed his path. Sid also talks about some of the pitfalls of the promotion business - deals that soured, and entertainer foibles.
Sid Bernstein is a man who made it big as a promoter without cheating, lying, or backstabbing. Sid Bernstein is a gentleman.
"Not Just The Beatles" tells it as it was. I couldn't put it down. If you are a Beatles fan, a music lover, a musical researcher or historian, or are in the entertainment business, or if you just want to read a good story, then buy this book!
Thank you Sid for your wonderful life. Thank you Arthur for letting me relive it!
