Praise for Sacred Trust:
Mirrors [ERs] exciting pace and agreeable characters. Publishers Weekly
Guaranteed to keep the reader glued to the pages . . . Rendezvous
"The health of my patient will be my first consideration." So vowed Dr. Lukas Bower upon entering the medical profession. And by refusing to betray this solemn oath in the face of hospital politics, life has suddenly become very difficult for the young interim director of Knolls Community Hospital emergency room. As Lukas fends off an unjust federal investigation, the embittered hospital board chairman threatens to merge Knolls Community with a profitable but morally bankrupt healthcare conglomerate.
The small-town serenity of Knolls is suddenly broken by a spate of suspicious fires, and the new influx of patients strains the resources of the already overworked emergency room. With the increased responsibilities, Lukas finds himself working more and more with Dr. Mercy Richmond. When his feelings for her turn into more than he expected, Lukas faces the most difficult decision of his life.

The follow-up to "Sacred Trust".......2004-12-05
"Solemn Oath" continues the great, Christian storytelling of "Sacred Trust" as Dr. Lucas Bower trys to figure out just what his relationship with Dr. Mercy Richmond is, while Mercy's ex-husband is released from rehab and trys to prove that he's changed. Meanwhile, there is a series of suspictious fires, and one firefighter comes under suspiction just as his marriage is falling apart. The head of the Knolls County Hospital also has to deal with a vindicive lawyer who is still grieving over his lost son, and who also isn't afraid to play dirty. Through this chaos, the doctos save lives, and everything leads up to an explosive conclusion where one man is redeemed, while another finally sees the light of God. Hannah Alexander is masterful.
One of my new favorites.......2004-06-15
I finished this book recently, after reading Sacred Trust. Hannah Alexander paints the characters so realistically, you feel like you know them (or want to know them). I enjoyed the mixture of suspense, romance and faith in this book, and was pleased that Theodore Zimmerman came to faith. Mercy Richmond's conversion was a wonderfully satisfying conclusion, and I cannot wait to read the next book. I wish there were more.
Like ER, but from a Christian perspective!.......2002-02-20
I read a lot of Christian books, but most of them are non-fiction. I'm very selective about the fiction I read - there's just not enough time to read all the good stuff out there! I used to enjoy reading Robin Cook's medical suspense books, so I was glad to see this series of three medical/suspense Christian novels.
This is the second of a series - the first is Sacred Trust and last is Silent Pledge. Reading them in order is highly recommended!
This wonderful series is centered around a small-town hospital emergency room in Missouri.
The medical parts ring true for a good reason - Hannah Alexander is a pen name for a husband/wife writing team and the husband is an ER physician! These books will appeal to both men and women, and contain suspense, drama, a little romance and a lot of inspiration. I became very attached to the characters of Lukas, Mercy, Clarence, Ivy, and many more. The story also paints a wonderful picture of God's forgiveness and grace in the character of Theodore and others' responses to him.
The only downside to these books is that there are only 3 of them and I've read them all...
Happy reading!
Great book!.......2000-12-30
If you watch NBC's ER, you may enjoy this small-town version because the characters are very likable. I liked how the characters' relationships with God are realistic. The power of forgiveness and redemption is a strong theme in this book.
A Book Worth Reading Again and Again and Again..........2000-06-19
Solemn Oath kept me glued to the pages for hours. I could not put it down. The plot twists and turns with every page and the characters are so developed, you can almost relate their problems with those in the real world. Solemn Oath follows the docters in the ER in the hospital of the small town of Knolls, Missouri. Dr. Bower, a devote Christian and shy bachelor, struggles with prejudice in the small town, a sometimes overwhelming number of patients in the Emergency Room, and his feelings for his fellow worker, Dr. Mercy. This series is definitely one you should read if you sometimes feel like God is punishing you, because these books will definitely set you staight. A wonderful triology from the talented mind of Hannah Alexander, these books will keep you enchanted for hours.

But before he will help her, she must perform a perilous mission: Rove the length and breadth of Xanth in search of a suitable jury for the trial of Roxanne Roc-a notably noble and virtuous bird charged with a most improbable offense.Exciting, exhilarating, and brimming with hilarious high jinks, Roc and a Hard Place is Xanth at its most enchanting.
Customer Reviews:
Love at first sight.......2007-06-02
You've probably been reading Xanth already, so I won't describe it at length. I'll just say that it's like Narnia, Wonderland and the world of the Phantom Tollbooth combined, where the only thing that doesn't exist is impossibiliy itself.
Strange to say, this was the first Xanth novel I read. Instant love. I've since read some of the earlier books and they do indeed have a more moderate level of random wackiness. But Roc and a Hard place shares their subtle moral sensibilities and remarkable characters while outdoing any I've yet read with an endless cornicopia of wonderful wordplay and plot twists that only Piers Anthony could think up. If it's also your first one, I would advise reading at least some early ones because not much background information is given.
Yes, it's light. Not a thriller or timeless classic. And it shows Anthony's unfortunate weakness for suddenly springing neat endings from wretchedly twisted conflicts. But if you have a stressful life and long for sojourns in a world of infinite linguistical and zoological glories, you couldn't do much better than this.
Pleasant but mostly fluff.......2007-03-22
I think if I had encountered the Xanth books as a teen they would have become some of my all time favorites. Back then I would have really loved the wordplay and the fertile imagination of the Xanth series. And it is still enjoyable. But the is a general lack of depth to Anthony's world and characters that makes these books much less appealing to me now. After reading a few Xanth novels, I really couldn't imagine going through the whole very lengthy series.
The specific plot for this story is that the demoness Metria, in order to attract the attention of the stork, agrees to summon various individuals from throughout Xanth, and in some cases beyond, to be trial personnel and jurors for a trial of Roxanne Roc. Metria needs her various talents, along with those of her alter egos De Mentia and Woebetide to manage the many obstacles to retrieving all these folks. Most of these characters have been introduced in prior tales, and there are references to the events of these earlier books, most of which I hadn't read, but I didn't find that to be a real obstruction to reading the novel.
It's a nicely built story with some good twists at the end. Loads of puns, frequently with each being an even worse groaner than the one before. As seems to be true in other Anthony books, there's a fair amount of slightly risque material without ever going to a level that would offend anyone other than the abnormally prudish. As I believe Lincoln first said, "For people who like this sort of thing, this is the sort of thing they will like." But I like my fantasies with more fully realized worlds, issues, and conflicts.
A Par Above........2006-07-09
I think this is one of Anthony's better of the series, at least in terms of its organic completness. Although it covers a lot of ground, only the adventure into the gourd seemed ad hoc fluff. A much less involved ramble would have sufficed to explain the blank token, as it is an important element for the end of the story. Aside from that, the demon's beauty contest seemed a little forced, probably due to little character build up for the part of prince Vore. With a little more effort, Anthony could have developed a better underpinning for love (as he has done so many times before), rather than the superficial clap-trap that is presented here. However, these are sins of commission, rather than omission, and could be as easily laid at the feet of the editor. Overall the book comes together better at the end than do many in this series; as well as tying up a number of lose ends left over from past books. Although not a fantasy classic, any fan of the Xanth series will like it as well or better than most of the others in the series. So if you have read all the ones before this one, chances are you will enjoy it well enough to continue on to the one that comes after.
Its old now.......2000-11-17
By this time Piers Anthony is losing the magic that made him so refreshing a read in the first place. There's hardly anything new and even the puns are getting dull. I think its time he moved on to other works. If he doesn't, then his readers will.
too much too much.......1999-12-27
Yes, he's quite the wit with puns and words and phrases, and yes it's fun.... but enough already. Let us have some interesting storyline too! I think I still like best the story A Spell For Chameleon. It was heartwarming. Roc and a Hard Place is just an exercise in wordiness. Does he get paid by the word? No character development, no plot development, just more and more and more of the same.

SHIP OF DREAMS!
The second Robotech War ended without victors. The Masters had been defeated, but the Army of the Southern Cross had suffered devastating losses, with Earth's cities reduced to rubble.
Then a heavily armed warship arrived from Tirol and instantly became the object of intense rivalries. To the survivors of the United Earth Government, it was a spear they could hurl into the Invid Sensor Nebula. To the decimated Southern Cross forces, it was the weapon they needed to use against the impending Invid invasion. For the Starchildren it represented escape from their planetary prison, and the Shimada Family wanted it neutralized before it sabotaged their hopes for a peaceful solution.
But no one knew just how dangerous the ship could be. No one, that is, except for its commander, Colonel Jonathan Wolf of the rag tag freedom fighters known as the Sentinels, and Dana Sterling, heroine of the war with the Masters. And Dana had her own agenda...
Set between The Final Nightmare (Robotech #9) and Invid Invasion (#10), BEFORE THE INVID STORM reveals the struggle for control of the dreadnought from Tirol.

The Final Gap in the Robotech series REVEALED!.......2004-02-19
Wow, Great Story. I always wanted to know what happened to the Southern Cross Warriors and of course the gap between Southern Cross and New Generation. Here's the deal: The Lost Generation Returns, as does Legendary Veritech Pilot Terry Weston, as does The Robotech Factory Satellite, as do the Zentraedi. Louie Nichols joins the Shimada Family, Johnathan Wolff and his ship return from Tirol, Dana Sterling & Johnathan Wolff have SEX. Behold the Debut of Lancer. Dana Sterling, with her companions the Southern Cross Warriors (Minus Louie) -Marie Crystal- and the Robotech Masters' Clones, HIJACK Wolff's ship and head for Tirol. A few months later the Invid finally arrive at Earth and immediately attack! No hi, no hello, no we've come for this reason, NOTHING! Just immediate attack and conquer. They kill the Zentraedi, destroy the Robotech Factory Satellite and Space Station Liberty. After this, the New Generation series begins. I highly recommend this book to Hardcore Robotech fans. It would be great if they also released this book on DVD.
The struggle for power is over. NOT!.......2002-11-12
The Robotech Masters have been defeated, but nobody can really say Earth won either. The United Earth Government and the Army of the Southern Cross are in ruins as both political and religious movements fight over the mecha and what is left of the planet. In outer space the Invid Sensor Nebula seems to suggest that the Invid has sensed the Flower of Life on Earth. In Japan the family of Shimada wait for the coming of the Invid who they plan to negotiate with while the rest of the planet prepares for a fight.
Then Colonel Jonathan Wolf arrives with a heavily armed warship from space and things become even more complex!
Once again we get to meet Dana Sterling, Louie Nichols, Misa Yoshida and, in the last few pages, the Invid themselves!
A Must !!.......2001-11-05
Very interesting book, it covers the period after the end of the second robotech war and before the invid invation. It's a must in your Robotech Collection.
Good , and excellent !.......1999-10-01
This is probably the best Robotech book that Jack Mckinney ever wrote . Superb !
For completists only.......1999-07-19
The most marginal of all the Robotech books (and apparently the last), there's very little going on in this book, especially when judged in the time-frame of the overall Robotech story-line. If you wondered how Dana Sterling and company got off Earth between the fall of the Masters (end of book 9, or episode 60 of the TV show) and the arrival of the Invid, this book will tell you. Of course, if you read the books in numerical order, you'll have already gotten that info from Lisa Hunter's log entry at the end of "Rubicon", or from Dana's activities in "End of the Circle".
It's to the authors' credit that they were able to keep finding stories in the undocumented time-lapses of the Robotech series and keep the whole universe consistent, but with "Before the Invid Storm", the diminishing returns may not be enough for some readers to bother with.
Book Description
The most powerful prayer on earth is also one of the most simple. Learning to pray it and mean it is the beginning of a lifetime of blessing. The largest factor that can release blessing in our lives is forgiveness. Jesus prayed over those who crucified Him: "Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing" (Luke 23:34, NIV). To enjoy God's blessings for ourselves, we must imitate Christ's unrestrained forgiveness. An act of love and mercy, forgiveness opens the door to a life lived in joy, peace and the boundless blessings our Father wants to bestow upon us. This is the miracle key you've been waiting for. You have nothing to lose, and everything to gain!

Mark's view.......2007-03-26
The title says it all it is not a feel good book it is a book that brings a feel good side of life; it convicts and it repairs the damaged in our society it is abook of truth read it and bring about restoration in your life and your family.
Profound, life-enriching.... read it!, .......2006-03-10
Having heard the author (Peter Horobbin) speak on this topic, and then read his book I can confidently recommend it. The book is written from practical experience of years ministering to broken lives, and witnessing profound changes in the lives of those who have discovered the truth of the power of forgiveness, even in the midst of indescribeable pain. That said, it's written in a very easy to read style, and can be read in a couple of hours, though the effects can be much more far-reaching!
The central thrust of the book is that we need to forgive - and it takes its lead from the Lord's Prayer 'forgive us our sins as we forgive those who sin against us'. This is hard - many interpretations have been made of this prayer, some which rationalise it or dilute it, but which really have never sat easy, at least with my conscience. Peter does not shy away from accepting the prayer at face-value, and then shows how the outworking of this in practice is actually releasing to those who forgive.
We have all suffered grievances, injustice, hurt and pain, to varying degrees. Peter does not minimise the pain that individuals have suffered or try to rationalise it away. He accepts that there is deep brokenness in the lives of many people (to which the organisation he works for ministers sensitively). However, he points out that unforgiveness breeds anger, bitterness, resentment and even hatred that takes root in us, affecting our lives, who we are, how we relate, how we react and ultimately who we become. Unforgiveness can become a prison, that holds us back from who we are and what we can be. Whilst we might think that others don't deserve forgiveness(and might even be right), forgiveness primarily releases us to be who we are, releases us in relationship to God, to others and even to ourselves. It releases us to live life to the full.
A helpful distinction is made between justice and forgiveness. The book then looks at who has hurt us, and in what ways, starting with parents and those close to us. This is dealt with responsibly, not looking for blame and excuses, but rather facing things that have hurt us, so that we can recognise, forgive and let go. Abuse, feuds, robbery and murder are all considered too. It also points out that we need to forgive ourselves (often the hardest person to forgive?), and not blame God, but that forgiveness can help us overcome behaviours that can 'block' our way to God (anger, hatred, revenge etc). The book then finishes with a a very helpful section on how to practically start working through forgiveness.
The Most Powerful Prayer on Earth may not, and probably will not, solve every problem - and it doesn't seek to do that. However, it provides a key, probably the most vital key, to unlocking issues from the past to enable us to go on - a springboard. It is theology for living out in daily life, and a key to unlocking issues and dealing positively with the past to go on in new life.
This is such a simple, yet profound and life-changing book that can be read in a couple of hours, but will be turned to again and again.

Not just casseroles..........2001-06-24
If you long for one-dish meals, this is your book! Casserole cooking fans will find many new recipes. An entire chapter is devoted to Casseroles & Oven Dinners.
To put the book in perspective, it is not really just about one-dish meals. There are recipes for Soups, Stews, Stir-Fries, Main-Dish Salads, Pasta, Pies & Pizza, Sandwiches and Simple Desserts.
The recipes in Best One-Dish were designed around ideas from comfort food. Pumpkin-Pot Stew is quite creative and would be appreciated in October! A section for Biscuits and Scones is appropriate to accompany the first chapter. Gingery Beef & Sugar Snaps can be made in under an hour, making it a quick supper. Valentines Sundaes look so romantic and frozen yogurt hearts are drizzled with ruby red raspberry sauce.
They couldn't resist adding a tempting section for making cookies, although one would hope no one makes a meal out of them ;>.
Good Housekeeping: Best One Dish Meals.......2000-01-24
Outstanding recipes! The recipes are truly quick, easy, and delicious. I prepare dinner for a picky family, yet they have enjoyed every meal taken from this cookbook. I feels great to be able provide a "from scratch" meal for the ones that mean the most - even after you've had a long day in the business world. I would highly recommend this book to all busy families that are still striving to hold on to the family meal as a time for meaningful, quality interaction.

Want to improve your handspinning or spin designer yarns?.......2006-02-16
I am an intermediate handspinner, and consider this book an essential resource. Once you have learned the basics of handspinning, this book provides information to both improve your yarn and a guide for creating designer yarns. If you are going to buy one book to take your spinning to the next level, this is it.
For handspinners who want to make great novelty yarns.......2006-01-02
If you are a handspinner, have you coveted those new eyelash and slub yarns that are all the rage for scarves and boas? Handspinning, though time-consuming, can be gratifying to one's creativity. If you would like to learn the elements of yarn design, from grading fleece, to scouring and processing, up to controlling twist and creating unusual yarns, this is an essential reference. While not new and not covering eyelash yarns, this book is absolutely a must for learning the properties of yarn as you design your own.
Excellent book for learning/perfecting spinning technique.......2004-06-09
This is just a great book!
There are lots of B&W photos and also illustrations on most of the pages to show how the yarn is held or what it's supposed to look like. This was a great help to me. The book covers fiber prep (washing, carding, etc),the parts of the spinning wheel and control over yarn design in handspinning. She talks about controlling twist and spinning and plying techniques and explains the difference between woolen and worsted yarns.
Described in detail, she explains how to make yarns of many kinds, from thick soft ones to fine gossamer.
I think this is a great book for both beginner and experienced spinner.
Product Description
Mabel Ross needs no introduction to those who know her popular basic manual on handspinning. Described here in detail is how to make yarns of many kinds from thick, soft ones to fine gossamer, from simple yarns to the fancy fashion ones, expensive to buy but simple to make when you have directions as clear and explicit as those in this book. It is full of information to enhance your spinning enjoyment, spurring you on to create and use you own unique yarns.
