Book Description
On generating the perfect party in Hollywood:
If celebrities don’t walk your red carpet, you don’t exist.
If you don’t make Page Six, you don’t exist.
To get ten celebrities to show up, invite four hundred. And send a car.
Publicity is the only job you can do perfectly and still fail.
And the gift bag totally matters.
As the newly promoted head of event planning for one of L.A.’s top publicity firms, Alex Davidson spends her days making decisions of utmost importance: Grey Goose or Belvedere? MAC or Stila? Queen Latifah or Chloë Sevigny? And though her boyfriend, agency president Charles Evers, lives on the other coast, she could be doing worse. But leave it to her mother to point out the obvious: After one failed, childless marriage, Alex is the “career divorcée” and the antithesis of her sister, the perfect stay-at-home mom. And there’s no spin in the world that can cover up the growing rift between Alex and Charles.
From dealing with outrageously self-important clients and holier-than-thou C-listers to trying to make sense of her growing attraction to a man who is not her boyfriend but her best friend, Alex feels as if she’s about one Red Bull shy of a meltdown. With her professional future hanging in the balance, she has the biggest party of the season to pull off. And the real question is: Will the gift bags measure up?

Gift bags are the pinnacle issue! .......2006-08-09
Enjoyable book, almost couldn't put it down! Very enjoyable read. I am looking forward to reading S 5 Minutes Ago!
Hard Working Heroine.......2006-07-11
Hilary De Vries is a very clever and always readable author, but So 5 Minutes Ago, DeVries first novel about Alex Davidson, was a much easier read than The Gift Bag Chronicles. There is a very pervasive sense of exhaustion in this novel, and I'm not sure it's entirely attributable to the heroine's insanely demanding job. In this book, the love found at the end of So 5 Minutes Ago turns to dust and ashes, in order that a new love can be found, but the whole thing feels a little contrived and made-to-order. It would have been interesting to see Alex grow up within a relationship, instead of having the formulaic chick lit "the guy you really ought to be with is right under your nose" revelation. Something about this book just felt like hard work. (Which will in no way affect me rushing out to buy Book #3, if and when it appears!)
Great summer reading.......2006-07-05
This is a fun quick read. Great for summer. Relaxing and entertaining.
Boring book.......2006-07-05
I bought this book thinking it would be a good beach read but I never really could get into it. The characters were boring. Way too much whining. The plot was very slow. I finally had to put it down.
fast, funny, the perfect escape.......2006-04-04
A clever conceit -- the whole "gift bag" culture in Hollywood is something I'd never thought about -- and spit-spot writing make this my pick of the year. De Vries could teach Tom Wolfe something about writing with economy, and she's second to none in the keen-eye department. Fast, funny -- and oddly poignant. I read De Vries' first book -- "So 5 Minutes Ago" -- and she just keeps getting better. A MAJOR new talent, folks.

This Audiofy audiobook chip packs Laura Hamilton's full 6 hour reading of "The Gift Bag Chronicles" on a tiny memory card. A single Audiofy audiobook chip, hardly larger than a stamp, holds a complete digital audiobook, and saves the last listening position automatically, unlike CDs. With an SD memory card slot or low-cost adapter - like those for digital cameras - this Audiofy audiobook chip can be played on Microsoft Windows and Apple Macintosh desktop computers or laptops (Microsoft Windows XP/2000/Me/98, or Apple Mac OS X 10.3.9 and above) or transferred to Apple iPod media players. Audiobook chips also move seamlessly to most Palm OS and Pocket PC handheld PDAs with SD expansion slots, as well as Treo and Windows Mobile "smartphones" (Palm OS 5.2 or Windows Mobile 2002 and above)... The Gift Bag Chronicles, the follow-up to So 5 Minutes Ago, continues the outrageous misadventures of Hollywood girl-about-town Alex Davidson, who has moved up the ladder at her firmformerly a mere publicist, she's now the head of 'event planning' division, which means she's a party planner. And what goes on behind the scenes while the real stars (and the plastic-surgeons who want to be treated like real stars) sip champagne, makes for the funniest, zingiest, sexiest story yet.

Anyone who has read the Harry Potter books is aware that author J.K. Rowling infuses her stories with references to mythology, literature, history, and legends. Even if you don't know exactly what a manticore or a griffin is, it's likely that many readers have at least a vague sense of the existence of these creatures in ancient lore. Inspired by Rowling's suggestion to a young fan to "go and look it up," author David Colbert did quite a bit of investigation himself. The result is the fun, entertaining, and enlightening Magical Worlds of Harry Potter.
From alchemy to hippogriffs to veela, Colbert explores the fascinating meanings between the lines and buried within the names of characters and places in all the Harry Potter books. Chapter headings include such intriguing questions as "Have Witches Always Flown on Broomsticks?" "Why Would Chocolate Help After Escaping a Dementor?" and "Are Any of the Famous Witches and Wizards Real?" A small purple tab in the margin of the first page of each chapter guides readers looking for specific subjects: Divination, Goblins, McGonogall, Owls, Voldemort, Wands, etc. Curious readers will learn the link between Hagrid's pet dog, Fluffy, and the mythological Greek sentry to Hades, Cerberus. And they'll get a taste of scholar Joseph Campbell's theories on heroism, with Harry as the hero, of course. The true magic of this book is that it will surely inspire Harry Potter fans to delve deeper into the various areas it explores. Readers will soon be clamoring for collections of Greek, Japanese, Indian, and Egyptian mythology, as well as copies of The Sword in the Stone, A Midsummer Night's Dream, The Canterbury Tales, and Treasure Island, to discover the sources of their favorite Harry Potter books. This is a great Harry Potter companion book. Alot of interesting information and fascinating subjects. Highly recommended for any Harry fan!
8 year old son loved it.......2006-10-13
I bought this for my 8 year old. He is learning more about mythology from Harry Potter and this book than he will ever learn in his public school.
3 stars.......2006-03-20
Pullman's His Dark Materials series has raised many questions and much public interest. Although much of this book will make little sense if you have not read the trilogy, the information contained herein does have something to offer both those who have and have not done so. If you have, then Mr. Colbert's work will give you greater understanding and insight. If you have not, it answers the qualms about reading it that you may have. No Christians will be won over to the idea of supporting the series. The atheistic and Gnostic bents to Dark Materials are clearly stated. However, if you are on the fence, taking a look at this book might help you decide which way to go.

Most Helpful Harry Potter Text Ever.......2005-11-03
I am an aspiring writer, searching for new and fresh topics to work with so I can peddle my wares. This book, the Magical Worlds of Harry Potter, has revealed to me different legends, myths, and historical facts I can use in my writings as many a basis for my characters to come. This book gives an excellent review of links to ancient myths and legends and long since forgotten facts of history from J.K. Rowling's books of a hidden magical world in a universe of "Muggles." It is true what David Colbert says how J.K. Rowling has taken (or has not taken as the case may be) these myths, legends, and facts and compiled them together into something that is considered so incredibly original and fresh. So many things in the stories are considered completely her creation, but they are more the her creation of wonder and magic that bring these mythical things together for a world of witchcraft and wizardry. To this book I give a vote of FIVE STARS and I highly recommend this book to everyone, aspiring writer or not. If you do not wish to write for a living like I do, at the very least, you'll learn something you never thought you would ever learn before.
Literature and Harry Potter.......2005-09-13
This book was a great one for those who find words and the origin of words and ideas fascinating. This book opened up the mind of J. Rowling in terms of where she found references and words and changed them to fit her story. As many of the words or word roots and ideas have corrolations in myths and legends, the words and names that the Harry Potter series uses strikes a chord with adult readers as well as young readers as they are already familiar in oue own history and vocabulary. I greatly enjoyed reading this book!

Now I know why this has been discontinued . . ........2007-04-14
It's because Clamp has been having trouble with their publisher, Asuka comics. Not because they're lazy or don't know how to end the story. In fact, it's because they know exactly how they want to end it that they've run into a brick wall. According to various japanese websites evoted to X along with some of the reviews on Amazon Japan, Clamp was told by Asuka to tone down some of the violence and gore in this manga. Mostly this was because of the Hanshin earthquake in 2002(?)that freaked a lot of people out, because it seemed to parallel the manga in an eerie way.
Clamp refused, rightly so, to back down and dumb down the manga storyline, especially the ending which will be extremely violent and graphic, so they are essentially at a standstill with Asuka comics as to continuing the X 1999 story.
The true shame here, is that Clamp has more art and story finished that they are not allowed to release because Asuka owns the rights. They don't even have the option of self publishing the ending themselves. So, unless they work out their differences, there's a very good chance we will not see the end of this at all.
Asuka felt that due to some customers complaints that it was in bad taste to release the manga series on the heels of an earthquake that killed so many people. Maybe after a few years more, the people will feel like reading this again and not be overwhelmed. It really is one of the best Clamp stories out there, and they should maybe reconsider the 1999 year and redo it to be 20xx so that it's not dated. Although, anything they put out at this point would be greatly appreciated.
Cliffhanger central, baby.......2005-09-04
Okay, so we've made it this far. 18 volumes down, who knows how many left? certainly not anyone overseas, since 18 volumes have been released there too! And this is not the end by any means. I predict at least one or two more volumes.....if only Asuka will get around to continuing to run X.....*writes massive amounts of letters to Asuka.*
Okay, so volume 18. We've made it past THAT SCENE, the infamous volume 16, Arashi has finally admitted her not-so-secret feelings for Sorata, the consequences of which appear (let's all pray really hard that it's just an obstacle she has to overcome), and quite a bit of I'm-not-quite-sure-what-to-make-of-it moments between Aoki and Karen. And thus we arrive at volume 18.
Features:
Nataku, ah poor Nataku. Our cover boy this volume. Throughout the series, he's been quite the strange character. But I really love him in this volume. Karen is the one who really interacts (I'm cringing at word choice, but I don't know how to put it without spoilers for the scene) with Nataku, the aftermath of which gives us a very insightful and heart-wrenching scene and dialogue between DoH Kamui and Karen about the final battle and quite possibly DoE Kamui's true intentions. Of course, this occurs about ten pages before the end of the volume, so everyone's left screaming.
Subaru-kun. Oh man, Subaru-kun. After the end of volume 17, which ended with Subaru-kun cluthching Sei-chan's (Seishiro-san or Sakurazukamori to those of you who don't adore Sei-chan)left eye (yes, i know in the Viz version, it's his right eye, but i'm one of those screaming RIGHT!!! NOT LEFT!!! about the which eyes are blind on the pair) in a jar to his chest after DoE Kamui gives it to him after a heart-wrenching (at least to Sei/Subaru shippers) talk about Seishiro-san's true wish besides dying at the hands of his loved one, we're all left crying and wondering (not really) about what Subaru-kun will do. Subaru-kun has yet another talk with DoE Kamui, equally heart-wrenching, no matter what your relationship vote, and as pretty much no surprise to anyone, Subaru-kun has two seeing eyes now. Man, Subaru-kun is sexy in all black......SEI-CHAN LIVES!! (not really, but read that scene, and you'll know what i mean)
DoH Kamui has a spine now guys! *everyone cheers* Guys, if DoE Kamui is granting everyone's "true wish", can he grant Kamui's "true wish", if we ever truly figure it out? ha. not likely. but we can dream, ne?
So, we've got huge angst-fests from just about every character who's still alive, lots of discussions about everyone's "inner wish", and evil!Hinoto commenting on just about everything, mainly the fact that there are only two kekkais left now, City Hall, and the all-important Tokyo Tower, and with her final words of "The time draws near for them to start the final battle", the volume ends.
Everyone write massive letters to Asuka in support of CLAMP, maybe if they get enough of them, they'll finally get off their soapbox and continue running the series.....
The climax of the battle for the fate of Earth approaches..........2005-06-03
Volume 18 features some startling differences between the anime and the manga in this popular CLAMP series. Things only hinted at that occur between Karen and Nataku in the X TV series, here are flushed out and a very different outcome for the Dragon of Earth is revealed. The consequences of Arashi's night with Sorata are starting to be revealed. Kamui becomes aware of Hinoto's deceptions and speaks to Karen about it. Also, the nature of Fuma's true intentions and desires (as well as those of the now dead Seishiro) begin to surface as he interacts with the now fallen Dragon of Heaven, Subaru.
The back of the Shojo edition of this volume reads, "The balance of power is shifting. Arashi's suprising emotional confession to Sorata has unexpected consequences, and the result of Fuma's shocking gift to aimless Subaru is revealed. Unaware of Hinoto's duplicity, Karen and Aoki have followed her instructions and are heading to Ginza to face Tokyo's next threat. Will the Dragons of Heaven win again---and at what cost?"
The cover features a picture of Nataku as the Moon (XVIII) Tarot card. Fitting, since this volume deals specifically with him, as well as represents the nature of the Moon card well. For Nataku, a choice between two things needs to be made, and he has to come to terms with his own emotions, wild and childlike as they are.
The only really irritating thing about this volume, as well as for the Viz series itself, is the flipped artwork. It's hard enough when you have to look at someone clutching the wrong side of their chest as they refer to their heart, but also the change for which eye Subaru and Seishiro lost, not only being different from the TV series (which of course wouldn't need to be flipped), but also retracting from the symbolism associated with Subaru and the Hanged Man (XII) representing the sacrifice of Odin's eye for knowledge. But maybe feeling that way is a bit geeky...
Book Description
ORTHODOX DOGMATIC THEOLOGY is a book written with one purpose: to inspire, to warm the heart, to lift one above the petty preoccupations of earth in order to glimpse the divine beginning and end of all things. This has always been the purpose and intent of theology: to give one the energy and encouragement to struggle towards God and our heavenly homeland.
The original Russian version has long been regarded as a standard source of Orthodox theology and used for many years as a seminary textbook. The English translation by Fr. Seraphim Rose has made this invaluable sourcebook accessible to those who wish to deepen their understanding of Orthodox Christianity.
ORTHODOX DOGMATIC THEOLOGY was written not for academic theologians, but primarily for pastors, and thus it has a practical approach and simplicity of presentation that is missing in many works of contemporary academic theology.
In ORTHODOX DOGMATIC THEOLOGY one may see a characteristic of genuine Orthodoxy that is so often lost in our cold, rationalistic age. Theology is not primarily a matter of arguments, criticisms, proofs and disproofs; it is first of all men's word about God, in accordance with the divinely revealed teaching of Orthodoxy

A model for writing theology.......2006-09-20
I had been looking for a textbook on Orthodox systematic theology for quite some time before accidently coming across an older edition of this volume while I was in Europe. I am an evangelical who is painfully aware of our tradition's ignorance of Eastern beliefs, and of our dependence on Western conceptions of theological categories and methods. As such I was (and still am) deeply interested in exploring the depths and riches of Eastern theology, and to this end Pomazansky is a gem.
I imagine most pastors have at least one or more volumes of systematic theology in their libraries. Everyone has their favorites: Barth, Calvin, Miley, Mueller, Grudem, Ott, Wenger, etc. Most of us try to have a wide variety of sources at our disposal for the sake of reference. Pomozansky's Orthodox Dogmatic Theology deserves to be on your shelf because I doubt anyone has written a one-volume systematic with the same measure of depth, eloquence, and brevity, let alone from an Eastern Orthodox perspective. Think of Wayne Grudem's Systematic Theology, but with greater clarity, and a even more deeply devotional/pastoral spirit.
That being said, Pomazansky's book is not without its flaws. He is strongest when articulating the faith all Christians share, and in that respect, I would reccomend his book to every student of theology, both lay and clergy. On the other hand, from an evangelical perspective, he is weakest when defending Orthodox distinctives. I think evangelicals will find that some of his arguments are far from convincing because they are exegetically unfounded or suspect. That being said, Orthodox readers probably won't be bothered too much by this apparent shortcoming because Scripture does not have the same place of authority in Eastern traditions as in evangelical traditions.
But even with these (minor) doctrinal dissagrements, this is an eminently useful book that I constantly refer to for inspiration and explanation. In fact, it may be the most dog-eared, highlighted, and underlined systematics I own. You should get one.
Excellent Overview of Orthodox Thought.......2005-07-13
A very complete overview of Orthodox Dogmatic Theology, from a traditional Orthodox perspective. While not as broad in it's scope as other books, such as "The Orthodox Church" by Bp. Kallistos, the smaller scope of the book does allow for a closer examination of the subjects that are dealth with, and Fr. Michael Pomazansky does this quite well.
This book is a systematic examination of Orthodox theology, and for that some have criticized it; systematic, catechism, etc. are four-letter words for some Orthodox. However, one cannot help but wonder why organization as it happens in this book could ever be considered a bad thing. Perhaps only behind "The Orthodox Church" and "The Orthodox Way," this is the book that I would most likely recommend to anyone wishing to have a broad but intellectually satisfying overview of what the Orthodox believe.
I do have two minor issues with the text as it is today. First, it is impossible to tell when footnotes are from Fr. Seraphim Rose (the translator) or Fr. Michael (the author). This has caused a problem at times when I know that Fr. Seraphim feels a certain way about a subject, but I am not sure whether Fr. Michael also feels the same way. A lengthy footnote is sometimes provided, but with no indentification as to who is speaking.
And second, Fr. Seraphim does seem to insert things into the book that were not originally part of the book. While this is not uncommon in books published by the St. Herman of Alaska Brotherhood, and while these additions are given in appendices, I still feel like it is an unfortunate move sometimes, as in a case like this book where the appendices bring in a controversial tone to the book that would have otherwise been absent. If I lend or give this book to someone and they have questions about Orthodoxy, I'd much rather try and answer questions about icons or Mary, and not controversial subjects like the Dogma of Redemption.
An Excellent Read and Reference tool.......2004-07-15
Pomazansky's brilliant and accurate exposition of the Orthodox Faith is filling a great need in America for truly good, truly thorough, truly straightforward Orthodox literature.
My favorite theology book.......2003-04-01
Clear, concise, easy to understand, only slightly marred by a critique of a wierd idea held the author added as an appendix. Otherwise, this is the best, and ought not be limited to "Orthodox" readers.
Astonishing Depth and Clarity.......2002-11-20
An excerpt from the book reads:
"Christian faith is a mystical revelation in the soul. It is broader, more powerful, and closer to reality than thought. It is more complex than separate feelings. It contains within it the feelings of love, fear, veneration, reverence and humility. Likewise it cannot be called a manifestation of the will, for although it can move mountains, the Christian renounces his own will when he believes and gives himself over entirely to the will of God. 'May Thy will be done in me, a sinner.' The path to faith lies in the heart; it is inseparable from pure, sacrificial love, working through love (Gal 5:6)."
When I read this, I read it over and over again. It simply astonished me. What Fr. Pomazansky has to share with us in his book in nothing short of the fullness of the Orthodox Church, and its most profound mysteries. And all this is accomplished without elaborate systems, or contexts, but rather with a humble straightforwardness that is reminiscent of many of the Church Fathers such as Saint Clement of Alexandria, or Saint Gregory the Theologian.
I recommend this to every Christian who truly loves God, and wished to know him truly.

The Key to all Modern Cooking!.......2000-01-02
I have used this cookbook for more than a decade, and I consistently return to this book by Urvater and Liederman for the best of clean, elegant and richly satisfying recipes. The recipes include very simple and easy meals with little preparation, as well as complex, highly detailed concoctions, all of which are beautiful and tremendously gratifying. The detailed descriptions for making stocks and glaces come first, as they form the basis of many of the sauces in their recipes to follow. Time-consuming but easy, these stocks provide a richness and depth to their cuisine found mostly in elegant restaurants, without relying on excessive butter, cream or cheeses. Most important, the recipes are painstakingly edited. I have never had a recipe fail for me, as long as I followed the directions. I keep this book on the same shelf as Julia Child, The Joy of Cooking, and The Splendid Table as the cornerstones of my cooking library.

Book Description
Recorded history is a finely-woven magic fabric of intricate lies about events predating the sixteenth century. There is not a single piece of evidence that can be reliably and independently traced back earlier than the eleventh century. This book details events that are substantiated by hard facts and logic, and validated by new astronomical research and statistical analysis of ancient sources.

Calculations are only as good as your numbers.......2007-08-03
Yes, we can all agree that mainstream history is nearly 100% BS due to politics, economics, ego, problems with dating techniques, and various conspiracies. Agreed. But, I've been researching the distinct possibility that human history (in terms of civilizations) are much more ancient than we've been told, so coming across this book was very interesting to me. I wondered how Fomenko could be wrong (if at all) because he is very persuasive in his presentations. Then it dawned on me. If at previous times in prehistory, due to the various catastrophies that are well documented (comets, asteroids, planetary disruptions, plasma discharge, pole reversals, etc) the Earth was in a different position in relation to the sun, different tilt on its axis, different orbit, different rotation (in terms of velocity and DIRECTION), and the continents were in different positions, then would this not cause the ancients to see the sky (constellations) differently? In other words, is Fomenko making erronious assumptions about the physics of the Earth in pre-history, which then corrupt his data with regards to dating the relevant astrology? The last event to seriously disrupt our planet occured roughly 3500 years ago, according to other good researchers, so is it possible Fomenko has been confused by this? The vastly different physics of our planet in the not so distant past may explain this confusion, which is not to say the "mainstream" version of history is correct; on the contrary. I am not an expert in these fields, but wanted to see if this idea could spark discussion.
Pants on fire?.......2007-07-19
Will people ever read before spamming? Yes, Jesuits could not rewrite world history alone, they had help. Anyway, Dr Prof Acad A.Fomenko does not point to jesuits as the driving force of world wide history manipulation in published volumes 1,2,3;, actually he barely mentions the poor devils. Check it with 'Search inside' feature, please. China is rarely mentioned either, in fact, Dr Fomenko is completely eurocentric. Right, his theory contradicts all mainstream schools of history, because in their actual state they are all built on blatantly erroneus chronology. You don't need a mysterious cabal (conspiracy) to falsify history, the falsification is its modus operandi. It is inherent to history(ians) to falsify (distort) events, as it is inherent to humans to boast as it is inherent to power (authority) to legimize itself by referrring to glorious past made to its own order. Dr Prof Fomenko and team have identified scores of instances of such manipulation in Russian, European, etc.. history, and delivered valid statistical proof thereof. His own 'reconstruction' is completely another story. Forget c14 as a valid method of dating. W.Libby has initially discovered a brilliant method of INDEPENDENT dating. Too bad, c14 method has become a joke after a forced marrige with dendrochronology with consensual chronological scale inbuilt. Radiocarbon method can't stand blind tests, but is so very productive as a rubberstamp.
Accepted History & Chronology Must Be Changed. .......2007-04-09
There is no doubt that history as most know it is a sham, & institution's version of History both University & Church is fradulent & inaccurate. Everything was established with an agenda, The real "Dark Ages" are now when we have access to incredible amounts of information past authorities & more important 'common folk' didn't have but our institutions & educators are slow to evolve because of what has ignorantly & arrogantly been taught for too long. This is on many subjects not just Chronology.
For anyone to question "Why would a Mathematician have anything credible to say of History?" The answer is from Dr. Fomenko's preface in the book: "It would be worthwhile to remind the reader that in the XVI-XVII century Chronology was considered to be a subdivision of Mathematics." These volumes could possibly be some of the most important works to date & should be read by everyone with an interest in History, especially professors & educators who have a duty to the public. I have read both books & must say that 'Chronology 1' has some very eye opening & revolutionary information. Even if these volumes are part true the implications are profound & opens the doors to further investigations & questions which must be done. I speak several different lanquages & must say the logic Dr. Fomenko uses with "inflection" of words & words being read from left to right in one region & right to left in another then written backwards, the removal of vowels & get down to basics of words, or different cities & locations having the same name etc. is correct. Vowel usage has always been optional & varied, actually complicating linquistics & study. The first thing one has to understand is that words never had a fixed spelling in history like we do now, the spelling of words was mutable & regional, as well as names & titles of people were vast, varied & changed, NOTHING WAS FIXED or understood linear. Matters of Life & Death as well as financial profiteering yesterday & today were & are made with ignorant, illogical & conspiratorial views of history & reality, it's time people get closer to the Truth & society collectively grow up.
Very Interesting.......2007-03-07
It is a good proposal and I believe it will mature into something even better in the future. I think it deserves to be read.
History as Science Fiction.......2007-01-10
Anatoly Fomenko has written a very intriguing book, full of pictures, charts, and computer 'proof' of his thesis: backwards of AD900 we don't really know what happened or when. Between AD900 and AD1600 there is more certainty, but there is still a lot of fuzzy ground, and things don't get reliable until we get past the 1600's where the printing press made it very difficult for the perpetrators of this timeline manipulation to change anything that had been committed to print. The Dark Ages did not happen. Books were burned for a reason. One organization has doubled the actual length of its existence by expanding the real chronology. Read why.
I had always wondered why Christ died about AD33 and yet men waited until the 11th century to form the Knights Templar, the Cathars, etc and go after the Holy Land by force. Why the 1000 year gap? Turns out there wasn't more than a 10-12 year gap and he proves it using astronomy. This also implies that the planet is not as old as we have been told, and current Christian and other creationist scientists are already championing that idea without being aware of Fomenko's book. The two groups, creationist scientists and the Russian mathematical analysts corroborate each other. Fascinating.
Of course, all this flies in the face of what we have been told traditionally is the 'proper' chronology of western civilization, and most readers will experience 'cognitive dissonance' in reading this book. It means that our history going backwards from AD1600 becomes progressively more incorrect and unreliable until it cannot be trusted at all... in the space of 700-800 years.
Naturally, the curious, open-minded reader will want to know WHO did this, WHY, and did any of the events we think of as really ancient ever happen?
Dr. Fomenko is a respected scientist/mathematician at Moscow State University who has already answered these questions to the satisfaction of his initially skeptical colleagues. Most of them are now believers, a few still refuse to believe (the usual diehards), and of course the western press has ignored Fomenko's work -- for obvious reasons when you read the book. The ones who perpetrated this chronology ruse have a lot to answer for. They are still with us. That's why this book is a well-kept secret.
I gave the book a 4-star rating because I was unable to check out some of his claims; those I checked were as he said. But if even 1/3 of his claims are true, this punches a big hole in what we think is our history, the meaning of western civilization, our educational process (for repeating the ruse as gospel), and the trustworthiness of the organization that perpetrated this ruse, well-intentioned or not.
This book relates to current research into a Young Earth paradigm, to John Keel's discoveries about our planet, and Fr Malachi Martin's insights (in his now out-of-print books). We are indeed sheep who are manipulated and kept ignorant -- for a reason. While knowing what these men have to say may be the "booby prize" (as in: 'what can you do with this knowledge?'), it will provide interesting reading. Didn't someone say: "...and the Truth will set you free."?? For you to judge if this book contains the truth.

Book Description
Although work furniture has had so much more attention recently there is a long way to go before this is translated into action in the wider world. Increased international concern for the health and safety of people at work is one of the driving forces behind this book.; The Science of Seating brings together researchers in ergonomics and posture with industrial designers, to review and assess the current state of chair design, with implications for cultural, behavioural and occupational aspects of health. The contributions are a significant step in the science of seating and should lead to a better understanding of the mechanics, dynamics and the effects of seating on the sitter.; They point to ways in which seats might become easier-to-use and adjust, offering both comfort and postural support without compromising freedom of movement: and in the not-too-distant furture, "the intelligent chair" will "remember" the sitter's preferences for position, cushiness and so on.; Topics covered include: Adjustability,Anthropometics, Posture, Back Pain, Biomechanics, Seat Pressure Distributions, School children, Special Needs of Users, Design Applications, Industry Perspectives, VDT Standards.; It is aimed at researchers and practising seating designers, ergonomists, design engineers, occupational health workers and physiotherapists and furniture manufacturers.

ASIN: 0807849057
Release Date: 2000-09-27 |
Book Description
First published in 1987, The Confederate Image examines the popular lithographs and engravings cherished by Southerners during and after the Civil War. These images helped sustain and revive Southern identity following the collapse of the Confederacy. (Though, ironically, most were actually crafted by Northern artisans.) The book focuses on prints of the three most prominent Southern figures of the conflictRobert E. Lee, Jefferson Davis, and Stonewall Jacksonbut also discusses prints of other important Confederates as well as the contributions of the short-lived Southern Illustrated News.

A highly recommended & unique addition to Civil War studies.......2001-03-19
Mark Neely, Harold Holzer, and Gabor S. Boritt effectively collaborate to present a pioneering and seminal examination of the popular lithographs and engravings cherished by Southerners during and after the Civil War in The Confederate Image: Prints Of A Lost Cause. These were the images in southern popular culture that helped to sustain and revive a post-confederacy identity following the collapse of the Confederacy at the end of the war. It is one of history's ironies that these images were actually crafted by Northern artisans. The principle focus of The Confederate Image is on the prints of three prominent southern Civil War figures (Robert E. Lee, Jefferson Davis, Stonewall Jackson) as well as offering informative discussions on prints of other significant Confederates as well as the contributions of the short-lived "Southern Illustrated News". The Confederate Image is a highly recommended and unique addition to Civil War studies and of considerable interest to students of American popular culture and art history.
