Book Description
1928. Anne Parrish (Mrs. Charles Corliss) wrote and illustrated children's books but is best known as a novelist. Her novel, The Perennial Bachelor, won the Harper Prize Novel Contest. In All Kneeling, Anne Parrish tells the story of the beautiful Christabel. She had a sweet, sensitive soul that responded to the beauties of nature and poured itself out in lyric poetry. All who came into contact with her were captivated by her charm. No one suspected that beneath this spiritual sensitivity lay a deliberate strategy and that her every movement was prompted by a selfish aim, no one, that is, except Uncle Johnnie, whose unfortunate love affair rendered him cynical. After the publication of her first book Christabel found Philadelphia atmosphere stifling and came to New York, where, for a host of admiring great-aunts she substituted a crowd of impoverished young aesthetes who knelt before her in reverend worship. Her contrast of staid Philadelphia family life with New York bohemian circles has made an extraordinarily rich setting. See other titles by this author available from Kessinger Publishing.
Book Description
New York Times bestselling author Jeffery Deaver has long thrilled fans with tales of masterful villains and their nefarious ways, and the brilliant minds who bring them to justice. Now the author of the Lincoln Rhyme series has collected his award-winning, spine-tingling stories of suspense -- stories that will widen your eyes and stretch your imagination.
This standout collection from Twisted includes "Gone Fishing" in which, a daughter begs her father not to go fishing in an area where there have been a series of brutal killings; a contemporary of the playwright William Shakespeare vows to avenge his family's ruin in All the World's a Stage; in "The Kneeling Soldier," a father's love turns deadly when he protects his only daughter from a stalker, but was the stalker indeed a stalker?; and in the bonus story Interrogation, a detective grills a cold-blooded murderer as to why he killed a perfect stranger.
Diverse, provocative, eerie and inspired, this collection exhibits the amazing range and signature plot twists that have earned Deaver the title "master of ticking-bomb suspense" by People.
Customer Reviews:
Be careful - this is a rip-off.......2006-10-20
The name of this book is very deceptive and makes it sound like it contans follow up stories in the vein of those in Deaver's book "Twisted" (which is also available in audio format). Lo and behold, it's actually just more stories taken from that book. This audio book should have been named something like "Nocuturne and other stories from Twisted". Based on other reviews I've read, I'm not the only one to have been duped. The stories in "Twisted" are good, but jeers to the publisher for pulling this fast one.
Wonderful Stories!.......2004-03-04
This is a terrific book I stumbled upon by accident. If you enjoy "Twilight Zone," then you'll love these. Each story had an ending I didn't see coming. And each time I finished one, I ended up with a giant grin on my face and a big "WOW, cool!!!" I must say, I rarely like books of short stories. They're usually very uneven in quality and readability. This is the exception. This is a great book by Jeffery Deaver. Don't miss it!

Out of print no longer: Book Four of the Apprentice Adept series--from the New York Times bestselling author.

Customer Reviews:
This Rehash Didn't Phaze Me.......2004-11-30
A tired reworking of the previous 3 books - which I thought were entertaining and inventive.
I have no evidence, but it seems as if this episode was ghost written (possibly by a 15 year old male chauvinist). Or else Piers Anthony was completely devoid of any new ideas. (one wouldn't think that an author in his mid 50's - at the time of the book's publication - would be so obsessed with pre-pubescent sex, it dominates every other page).
Of the approximately 300 pages, the first 150 are a tedious rehash of the first 3 books. Gone are the ingenious settings and situations and characters - replaced with boring characters (even more boring since they are duplicated both in Phaze and Proton) and the prurient leerings of a aging, frustrated voyeur.
It's sad when a talented author loses the spark.
If you are desperate for more Phaze, I advise checking it out from the library. My copy is going to Goodwill.
Try it and get hooked..........2000-03-15
This was my very first Science Fiction/Fantasy book. I picked this book up when I was 14 because the cover caught my attention, and I haven't stopped reading Science Fiction/Fantasy since. This is a really good book for someone new to the genre, or for younger people looking for a lighter Science Fiction/Fantasy read.
A pretty good beginning to the story of Mach and Bane........1999-10-31
This one was pretty good. After twenty years of no communication or anything between the frames of Phaze and Proton, Stile's son, Bane, makes contact with Blue's son, Mach, and they switch bodies so that they're both in each others frames in the other's body.
Then Bane falls in love with Agape from Proton and Mach falls in love with Fleta from Phaze and a bunch of problems arise.
I enjoyed this book.
Read this book........1999-07-16
"Out of Phaze" is a great novel in the tradition of Piers Anthony, mixing technology with fantasy in two interesting parallel worlds. His constant references to sex is a welcome addition, challenging the terminally sheltered and adding more tolerance to the world of fiction. A great read!
One of the best books I've ever read.......1999-06-17
I was very moved by this book. The extremes that these characters would go through for love moved me so much. Anthoney's descriptions of all details qualifies him as one of the best authors in the world. I love the way Science and Fantasy colide to make loads of adventure. This book has everything from androids to cyborgs and unicorns to werewolves and Citizens to Adepts. Your wildest dreams come to life in this wonderful book.

Customer Reviews:
Absolutely Brilliant in Chrome a great collection.......2004-07-22
Cannot say enough good things about this entire collection, but must note that I especially enjoyed (laughed out loud!) at Guess Who's Coming to Dinner? by Daniel Conover. His work in Empire of Dreams and Miracles was sensitive, suspenseful and thought-provoking; in Absolutely Brilliant in Chrome, he is all of that, but also deft, a little sly, and irreverently funny.
I think Douglas Adams would approve of the rollicking satire of Guess Who, but there is more of a nod to John Irving in Conover's other submission, Perfect for Each Other. Anyone who has read Irving's Garp or The 158-lb. Marriage knows he can be surgically precise in identifying the heart of a troubled relationship, and Conover uses the same incisive intelligence in describing the genetically superior, but emotionally crippled characters in his story.
I read both wanting to know what happens next at the end of the stories, and I eagerly anticipate publication of a full-length novel by this smart, funny, talented writer.
solid ten collection anthology.......2004-07-17
This is a solid ten collection anthology by seven individuals (Daniel Conover, Carl Frederick, and James Maxey submitted two tales each) who have won Phobos Fiction contests and considered by editor Keith Olexa as some of the future breed of superstars. The tales range the gamut of science fiction from Justin Stanchfield's terraforming deep space to earthly satire and all points in between as the only "Meeting of the Minds (besides Gerald Gross' contribution) is that this is an outstanding compilation. The formats also differ from a series of correspondence (Rebecca Carmi's "Letters to a Sister"), Matthew Rotundo's extreme sports "exposé", all the way to a humorous biting tale by Mr. Maxey focusing on a fetish for the latest cosmetic fad Skintex. Any anthology that has aliens arriving for a KISS concert is an indication of the solar and earthly lunacy of this absolutely brilliant short story compilation worth reading just to "Guess Who's Coming to Dinner?"

Conover spreads his wings and flies!.......2004-05-27
As an owner of the Empire of Dreams and Miracles I looked forward to reading more work from some up and coming authors. I was most pleased with the two new stories from Daniel Conover.
In Empire of Dreams he showed he was capable of dealing with deep social and personal issues while presenting an interesting and well developed backdrop. Here he's showing his ability to broaden his spectrum and take aim at our social and political systems.
Bravo!
Great Selection.......2004-05-19
This collection covers everything from lush fantasy tales, to clean sci-fi. I enjoyed all the stories, but especially liked the two by Daniel Conover. His clean style, wit, and sense of irony shine through in both stories.
Guess Who's Coming to Dinner!.......2004-05-18
I'd fallen out of reading short stories but a friend recommended this and it's great. A perfect summer vacation read. Good tales, and it's extra fun trying to guess who'll be the next Orson Scott Card or Douglas Adams. I suspect it'll be Daniel Conover: Don't miss his riff on George W. Bush negotiating secret treaties with rival extra-terrestials!

Expertly Written Twist on the Passion Narratives.......2007-02-20
Richard Exley has insightfully provided a glimpse into what it may have been like to Witness the Passion from the viewpoints of several key players. This book is a great way for people old and young to reconnect with their faith or simply deepen their interest. As a college student studying the New Testament, I was able to visualize the Passion Narratives and have a deeper understanding after reading this book. I was lucky enough to meet Mr. Exley where he presented me a copy of this book and without any words of persuasion, he helped me find my faith that had waned in prior years. I highly recommend this book to all readers.
Great Book for Seekers and Believers alike!!.......2004-03-31
This book is a snapshot of what it might have been like looking through the eyes of those close to the death of Jesus. It looks from the perspective of Mary, Barabbas, and others. It gives a fresh view for everyone!! A great book to give to seeker friends with an amazing presentation of the Gospel throughout.
Book Description
The master cook who worked in the noble kitchens of the fourteenth and fifteenth centuries had to be both practical and knowledgeable. His apprenticeship acquainted him with a range of culinary skills and a wide repertoire of seasonal dishes, but he was also required to understand the inherent qualities of the foodstuffs he handled, as determined by contemporary medical theories, and to know the lean-day strictures of the Church. Research in original manuscript sources makes this a fascinating and authoritative study where little hard fact had previously existed.
Customer Reviews:
A very informative book.......2001-12-01
As with her many other books Scully, has produced a book that is rich in detail with the culture and locals of the middle ages. This book has one draw back, you won't be preparing anything from it. I have mainly used this book for a historical perspective, while gathering ideas for potential menus that I wish to make. So often I have wondered what would have been period or what would have gone with a particular recipe that I was trying. This book will aide you in this.
Good information.......2001-11-16
This book has so much information it can be alittle daunting at first but keep going. It has no recipes per say but it will tell you about table manners, syrups, regional differences and so much more. This is must for the library, not just if you like to cook but are also interested in the culture of the period.
This is a definitive work........2000-05-23
"The Art of Cookery" is a substantive book. It is wide-ranging, lucidly written and is both erudite and appropriate for a general reader. This is not a cookbook. It is, however, an essential book to read for anyone who is interested in cooking food from the middle ages, as well as anyone interested in the history of the European diet. If you are looking for recipes then you should consider Terence Scully's "The Neapolitan Recipe Collection." It is a scholarly presentation of a late 15th century manuscript at the Pierpont Morgan Library. Mr. Scully's commentary, like the text of the "The Art of Cookery," is lucid and fabulously informative.
it was inforitive but, you could not make a dish from it........1998-06-30
it had tons of information on how they ate and i found that intreging. unfortunetely it did not tell you substitutions on the meals for today. it would be so much fun to actually eat the things they had back then.

Thanksgiving and Turkey Collectibles.......2004-12-01
A very practical book illustrating a hugh plethora of thanksgiving related collectibles in all shapes and sizes of which I was not aware. The author must have a hugh collection which was beautifully photographed over 13 full chapters with very detailed captions and price values. It seems to be the definitive guide in this holiday collectibe arena.
Turkey for Thanksgiving.......2004-11-18
Thanksgiving and Turkey Collectibles is the most comprehensive book on turkey memorabilia that I have ever seen. This book is a handy reference guide for those who collect and value turkey memorabilia. The author no doubt has one of the largest collections of its kind.

Customer Reviews:
ARTIS GETS HIS DUE!.......2005-12-01
Well the cover to Midnight High just about says it all with its cute, well-endowed ladies in short school girl outfits being menaced by zombies. The book showcases the talents of artist Tom Artis in his first collection. Artis apprenticed to one of my personal favorites of the 70's and 80's, Tim Conrad. In A lengthy introduction, Artis discusses his rather turbulent years working in the comics industry, particularly with DC. Thankfully Artis didn't throw in the towel and many more forward thinking people recognized his talent.
Collected within the 64 pages of this book from SQ Productions is a showcase of Artis' comic work, and other illustrations featuring buxom ice cream girls, waitresses and beer wenches, stylish new heroes, robots, and all sorts of beasties and creatures most foul. The examples of Artis' creativeness abound such as his Flash Gordon illustration which features a sexy Dale Arden lustfully eyeing the beautiful Princess Allura. There's also a Lady Death style clone that Artis did for a competitor who has ENORMOUS assets!
A favorite piece is the two cute sex-pots in skimpy tennis outfits in a cemetery getting attacked by a pair of vampires crawling out of their graves. Then there is the illustration of a trio of "innocent" schoolgirls unwrapping a mummy's "nether" region to get a closer look at his "Staff of Anubis". Apparently they like what they see! There's also a wonderfully humorous piece of a librarian vigorously strip-searching a suspected book thief. Artis' work is playful yet sexy and his buxom women have a decided edge to them. It's a fun book by a very underrated artist who certainly deserves more attention. Kudos to SQP for spotlighting Tom Artis!

During its three and half decades, the Alvin Ailey Company has left lasting markers on the playing field of American Modern Dance. It has established a reputation for precise but spectacular dancing, for depicting an African American ethos with sensitivity and elegance, and set standards for performance excellence. Ailey's choreography caused shock waves in the dance world of 1958 and continues to move audiences deeply. The company has also provided a paradigm for a modern dance repertory company.
Contributors include Jennifer Dunning, Ronni Favors, Allan Gray, Denise Jefferson, Cynthia Sithembile West, Muriel Topaz, James Truitte, and Sylvia Waters. Eulogies written by David Dinkins, Carmen de Lavallade, Judith Jamison and Maya Angelou.
