Love notes..........2004-09-07
For as long as she can remember, Jazmine Deems has wanted to take the world by storm as the latest and greatest diva of song. Thanks to her best friend Dakota, and the connections she has through her parents, they are able to secure tickets to an event at Black Tie Records, where famed music mogul Bobby Strong, who is looking for new talent, is rumored to be in attendance.
Also at the party is Xavier "X-Man" Honor, a rapper who is also hoping to break into the music scene. The moment Xavier sees Jazmine, he is immediately attracted to her, but she doesn't give him the time of day. In an effort to impress her, Xavier grabs a microphone and starts free-styling an original rap. His impromptu act doesn't sway Jazmine, but it does attract the attention of Kirk Walker, the newest executive at Black Tie, and Bobby's biggest nemesis.
After a while, Xavier convinces Jazmine to give him a chance. What ensues is a tumultuous affair rife with drama from every possible source. They soon realize that the road to true love and stardom is not only hearts and flowers, nor all glitter and gold. Will they stand strong in their beliefs, or will they let numerous outside forces determine the course of their lives?
CAUGHT UP IN THE RAPTURE was an absolutely wonderful debut novel, complete with characters we can identify with and a storyline that is oftentimes reminiscent of true life. Kudos to Sheneska Jackson for an exceptionally well-written novel. I hope to see more from this very talented author very soon.

Caught up in the Rapture of Love and the music industry.......2004-07-16
This book has a nice love story, and plot twists.
This book is about two young people who want to reach for the stars, gain that success and have that music career that is usually elusive to other people who only dream. However, getting there is not without its trials and tribulations. You have Jazmine Deems. She has a beautiful voice, but her father feels if she goes after a career in music she will end up like her mother. Her father wants her to stay in college, get a career, and pray for her very soul. Jazmine realizes to chase her dream, she will have move out on her own, with or without her father's blessings. X-Man(Xavier) is that guy from the hood. He wants a career as a rapper, but he has things holding him back. His troublesome gangster image, and his friends. He wants to escape from the hood, but he does not want to turn his back on his family. His "family" consists of his two friends, the wheel chair drug dealing Rich, and and T-Bone. Jazmine has a friend named Dakota who lives the opposite life she does. She is hip on the latest fashion trends, and having parents who are in the music industry, she helps Jazmine meet the right people to help her career get off the ground. Jazmine and Dakota go to an event at Black Tie records that will change their lives forever. Dakota gets Jazmine's demo tape into the hands of used to be hot music exec Bobby Strong. Bobby is trying to save his career so he will be the number one man when his boss leaves the company. He has this younger guy looking to take the title from him by the name of Kirk Walker, a newer up and coming executive who ends up signing X-Man to Black Tie.
Jazmine and X-Man end up meeting at the Black Tie party, and they hit it off, and start dating. They both hope their careers don't cause trouble in their new budding relationship. As it turns out politics rears it's ugly head, then discover they are in the middle of a producer war. If Jazmine's career takes off, then Bobby is a shoe in for that top spot at Black Tie, but if X-Man's career takes off Kirk could potentially get the job. Bobby's world is falling away from him as he deals with his excessive drug use, and the break up of his marriage. Turns out the more drugs Bobby takes, he worse his situation gets!!!
Just before Jazmine's and X-Mans albums debuts, a secret from X-man's past threatens to tear apart his future career aspirations and end his relationship with Jazmine, the one woman he can admit he loved. You have two different voices speaking through out the book. Jazmine is the girl who wants the love of a good man, her success, strength and the love and acceptance of his father. You have X-Man who wants to keep that gangster edge, but is dealing with his feelings for Jazmine, and the trouble he got himself into. Reading this story is like reading a Modern day Cinderella story. The book was fast paced, and kept me wanting more. I could not wait to see how it would end, and to me the ending teases you with the possibility of a sequel. Caught up in the Rapture will make you think about the song by Anita Baker of the same title. I found myself humming the song while reading the book.
This was a good book, and it's a good read.
this book was good.......2004-05-01
I read this book about a while back but the only thing about this authour is that her books start off slow, but once you get into it, it's non stop action AND DRAMA this book was so good, the only thing though is that the ending left me hanging, I felt I needed to know more. But this is a good read.

Great Series, needs readers!.......2007-06-23
This book was great, and I loved the previous as well. Unfortunately, due to low readership, this series has been discontinued by LUNA.
If you like this book, please write them and the author, explaining it. Join the discussion boards and start the taking.
This book is set in another land locked in ice as our heroine and her companion search for the next member of the Dancers. Jareth, our new hero, experiences the loss of loved ones and sense of self and has to struggle to grow into a new person.
Full of a spiritual lesson under the words, it is well written and the third book (which is only being published in an ebook format) promises to enthrall.
Building and growing.......2006-03-25
This is one of those series that you can just tell that its going to get more intense with each book. No pressure there Christie! :p Really this is an excellent book of growth in every way.
The second compelling story in the Final Dance Saga.......2006-02-11
Courtesy of Love Romances
The saga of the Final Dance continues with In Stone's Clasp.
Kevla's journey takes her far into the North to find the second dancer needed to keep the Shadow from destroying their world. She has dreamed of the Stone Dancer and has followed her dreams to find him. Along the way she finds others who can help her on the quest for the dancer.
When Jareth is finally found, he is nothing like what Kevla expected. Having lost his powers to bring Spring to the land and having lost his family to the endless winter have made him a bitter, angry man. He is far from ready to accept his duty to fight the Shadow. The hatred he feels for what has happened leads the small band of stragglers on a journey to find a legendary beauty, the Ice Maiden. Will he be able to conquer his pain to accept his destiny?
Christie Golden shows yet again why she is a gifted author of the fantasy genre. Her strong characters and brilliantly created worlds are sure to grab readers from the first page. The lands from which the players come are so vivid and full of life that one can envision the landscapes and their people. Add a few mythical beings and a mystical bend with the premise of the Dance, and readers can't go wrong.
Kevla is an incredibly strong woman, who has seen much in her young life, all of which prepares her for the role she now plays. She has her weaknesses and her strengths, making her all the more believable for the reality of her person. Jareth is emotionally wounded, never having been able to recover from the deaths of his family and the loss of the one thing he considered his strongest gift. His agony over what happened and his desire to fix it makes readers feel his pain with him, and empathize with his plight. Watching the characters grow is one of the best things about this series. They go through so much in their lives that their transformation into the mystical dancers is a sight to behold.
Of course, adventure is not lacking, as readers follow Kevla and company to Jareth, then on to the Ice Maiden, and where they go after that will leave one breathless with anticipation of what is yet to come. The enemies are powerful and readers long to know how they will be defeated, as much as they want to know what drives these villains to be who they are. This series is as much about the journey as it is the characters. This reviewer is a fan and doesn't know how she'll be able to wait for book 3, Under Sea's Shadow, to arrive in 2006.

Unique and wonderful.......2006-01-19
I truly believe that Ms. Golden should find a different publisher. I have a tendency to just dimiss Luna books (they're just sci-fi fantasy books by Harlequin Romances) as trash. I got the first book in this series by accident and I read it. It was really wonderful. The characters are well-drawn and different. Things don't have a happy ending.
The quest for the Stone Dancer was deeply moving. The loss and grief of this man was palpable and real. Don't read them because they're Luna, read them in spite of it.
NOT a romance.......2006-01-08
This series is misplaced in the Luna line. I felt bitterly betrayed while reading the first book, because I expected the HEA ending of romance. A tragic ending did not make me feel happy with the book. However, I felt the India-influenced world building was unique. I recommend readers ignore the first book- Kevla's character in book 2 bears little resemblance to the character of book 1 anyway and the magical world only developed at the very end of the book, and treat this book as a straight fantasy. As a straight fantasy, it was a nice journey story.

If he achieves a high score, nothing in his life will change. But if he scores too low, he’ll be relegated to an inferior realm, possibly far from his family and friends. The Destiny of Linus Hoppe.......2006-10-25
The Destiny of Linus Hoppe is about a 14-year-old boy that is about to take the test by the Great Processor. Linus Hoppe lives in Realm One, the best place to live. The Great Processor decides what Realm you are in after you takes its test. If you score a 150 or higher, you are in Realm One. If you score lower than 150 you are in one of the inferior Realms. Lots of 14-year-olds would kill to be in Realm One, but not Linus Hoppe. Linus wants to be in Realm Two after living in Realm One all his life. In order to make sure he lives in Realm Two, Linus has to outwit the Great Processor with some help of his friends. It is risky to try to outwit the Great Processor, if the Internet Police catch him, he'll get arrested or get put into Realm Three. Will he back down?
The Destiny of Linus Hoppe is in the genre Science Fiction. I rate this book five out of five stars, because Anne-Laure Bondoux wrote this book in a way that made you want to keep on reading even though it's 12:00 in the morning. It was also the perfect length, not to long, not to short. The plot was perfect too.
Anne-Laure Bondoux did a fabulous job writing The Destiny of Linus Hoppe. Anne-Laure Bondoux wrote this book at the perfect length and she also did a very good job drawing the reader in. I could picture every scene in the book. I could see what it smelt like, tasted like, looked like, and felt like. The Destiny of Linus Hoppe is a great book to read.

A good read.......2007-01-08
"The Destiny of Linus Hoppe" by Anne-Laure Bondoux is a fictional book placed in the future. The main character, Linus Hoppe, is fourteen years old and lives in Realm One, the most safe and utopian realm one can be in. There are a total of 4 realms in Linus's world, Realm One, also known as the protected zone, it can be described as an "utopia". Everybody here has a high-paying job and has received an excellent education. Realm Two is where the "Average Joes" live. It is industrial and unclean. All of its citizens are poor and cannot afford more than one child. Realm Three is for the misfits of society. The people here are either poorly educated or wrong-doers. Realm Four, which is only mentioned once in the book, is for the mentally ill. Which realm children are put in for the rest of their lives depends fully on a test taken in their fourteenth year. Fourteen year olds are tested by a computer known only as the Great Processor. Linus feels that his destiny cannot be changed due to the Great Processor and he wants to change that. Along with his two friends, Chem and Yosh, and his sister Mieg, and a stranger met along the way, Linus and this group try to outwit the Great Processer to get Yosh a chance to find his long lost brother in Realm One and to give Linus a chance to alter his destiny and go to Realm Two.
I highly recommend book for anyone between the ages of twelve and fifteen. It is a great book to read in your spare time. The only negative is that it is relatively short but it does keep you interested until the end. I plan on buying the sequel, "The Second Life of Linus Hoppe" and hope it will be good as the first. I gladly rate this book 9 out of 10.

Like Being in Joseph Campbell's College Classroom!.......2005-04-17
These recorded lectures are fantastic. If you ever had a great professor in college who taught fascinating classes, then you have an idea what these lectures are like. They will turn you on again to learning and remind you of what college was like at its finest.
The material covered is excellent, a great perspective on Eastern religion and mythology. But what will make it stand out the most is the stories Campbell recounts. They are wonderful. Highly recommended. Rush hour in your car was never this informative and fun - put these in your CD player!
Classic and Inspiring talks on Eastern and Western mythology.......2005-03-25
I listened to this series of CD's on my way back from a road trip recently. The poor recording quality of the first cd made me worry that they would all be bad, but whatever the problem was, they seemed to have fixed it for the following lectures because the others sound just fine.
Each cd contains one talk in a series of lectures that Campbell gave on comparative mythology between Eastern and Western traditions. He discusses the nature of myth, its characteristics, domain, uses, and meaning, among many other things. He distinguishes between the emphasis of eastern and western mythology and how they reinforce religious understanding in their respective cultures.
Campbell talks about eastern religion and mythology as supporting the idea that all individuals have the capacity and inherent characteristics of God, or the Divine Consciousness. In eastern religions, everyone has the ability to reach Buddha-hood, or Christ-hood, or God-consciousness. Whereas western religion and mythology externalizes the Divine, and access to its qualities relies upon belonging to a social group that is in relation to that God.
He also talks about the inward journey to the Divine, and how different cultures place different emphasis on this journey. He also draws parallels between experience of the Divine, schitzophrenia, and acid trips. He explains how these are similar and how they differ in great detail and insight.
Campbell uses a number of references and anecdotal stories to illustrate his very thoughtful, profound, and far reaching ideas. His wit, intelligence, and sincerity really comes through in this series. I will come back to these talks to use as inspiration and reference for my own philosophical and anthropological work; there is a wealth of inspiration and insight contained in Joseph Campbell's work, and these lectures are no exception.

The ingredients may be down-home, but the recipes that more than a dozen Southwest chefs have put forward in Barbara Pool Fenzl's Savor the Southwest are decidedly upscale. There's something about Silver Dollar Crab Cakes on Corn Pancakes that cries out "home on the yuppie range." And that's another way of saying "food for entertaining."
This book moves, chapter by chapter, from one delicious-sounding dish to another. Very few of them, however, have that certain fix-something-for-the-family ring. This is the book to pull off the shelf when you want to pull out the stops and really put on a different kind of spread.
Roasted Acorn Squash Soup may well be the tamest-sounding recipe in the book. That's not to say that the addition of chipotle chiles in adobo sauce isn't going to have an impact. How about Salmon Mousse Tamales with Edible Flowers? Put those nibbles out at a party and people will go home talking.
Fenzl divides her text into chapters on appetizers and salads; soups, stews, and chilis; main courses; vegetables; breads and tortillas; desserts; and salsa, sauces, and relishes. The contributing chefs are the cream of the southwestern crop who have yanked the foods of the Southwest into the 21st century.
Green Chile Fettuccine with Shrimp, anyone? Ancho-Glazed Chicken? Chocolate Tacos Filled with Hazelnut-Chocolate Mousse? This may be not everyday fare, but it's sure a great way to plan a party. --Schuyler Ingle

Good if you have time.......2003-02-07
This is a fun book. However, unless you have time and access to a Mexican market, it may be difficult to prepare some of the dishes. The few I've made have been well worth the effort, and I have enjoyed reading it.
A "must buy" cookbook for Southwestern cooking........1999-10-06
This cookbook offers some of the most delectable dishes in the Southwest. Written in easy to use recipes--easy to follow and never fail. We have prepared at least one meal a week since receiving the book, and haven't found one we didn't like yet! Even inexperienced cooks will find it easy to cook from--try it, now!
Great Molé sauce!.......1999-06-30
I have had trouble finding a Southwestern cookbook that either doesn't oversimplify the ingredient list, or was so authentic that I was afraid to commit the time necessary to try a recipe. This book strikes a nice balance.

Book Description
In thousands of years of tilling the soil, we have created a great variety of garden tools to dig, cut scrub, harrow fields, and trim borders. What makes the tools unique, and collectible, is the way function has dictated form, resulting in not only ingenious shapes, but artistic ones. In the 19th and early 20th centuries garden tool catalogs listed hundreds of task-specific tools including dibbers, mattocks, potato hoes, onion hoes, daisy grubbers, claws, weeders, forcers, straighteners, garden row markers, garden reels, rakes, watering cans, water tanks, lawn mowers, lawn rollers, weed whackers, and many many more. This book looks back at two hundred years of garden history, and attempts to identify the tools and accessories that gardeners used, and as much as possible identify their specific functions. With over 750 color photographs, concise captions, and a guide to prices in today's antique marketplace, this is a useful as well as beautiful exploration of garden implements.

Book Description
A wave of publicity during the 1980s projected Santa Fe to the world as an exotic tourist destinationÂAmericaÂ's own Tahiti in the desert. The Myth of Santa Fe goes behind the romantic adobe facades and mass marketing stereotypes to tell the fascinating but little known story of how the cityÂ's alluring image was quite consciously created early in this century, primarily by Anglo-American newcomers.
By investigating the cityÂ's trademark architectural style, public ceremonies, the historic preservation movement, and cultural traditions, Wilson unravels the complex interactions of ethnic identity and tourist image-making. Santa Fe's is a distinctly modern success storyÂthe story of a community that transformed itself from a declining provincial capital of 5,000 in 1912 into an internationally recognized tourist destination. But it is also a cautionary tale about the commodification of Native American and Hispanic cultures, and the social displacement and ethnic animosities that can accompany a tourist boom.
Debunks the great tourist myth, and explains how the Santa Fe architectural and design style, so popular with millions of visitors today, was consciously created by Anglos in the early 20th century.

An Essential Text on Preservation and Design Review.......2001-12-19
The editiorial reviews available on this fine publication only hint at its value to preservationists, architects, and anyone involved with architectural design review boards. Wilson provides a concise history of Santa Fe and the cross-cultural influences that have shaped its architecture. Most importantly, the author examines the influence that early 20th century historic preservation philosophies had in formalizing what has ultimately become the "Santa Fe Sytle." This is essential material for anyone interested in examining how historic preservation can impact, both positively and negatively, contemporary architectural aesthetics.

Book Description
This definitive biography of a Hollywood icon portrays Gary Cooper as a man of complex and sophisticated tastes, as well as large appetites.
Customer Reviews:
Nope.......2005-11-28
This is a unimpressive and down-right sloppy book on one of the movies' greatest stars and actors. How could you write a blah book on Gary Cooper? The author seems to recycle too much "information" from previous books on Cooper or other stars, and is most outrageous in his passing on the lurid gossip from Jane Ellen Wayne's trashy fantasy COOPER'S WOMEN. Does Meyers REALLY believe Clara Bow in the 1930's talked to a "shocked but riveted public" about Cooper's penis size and sexual ability?? Where the heck does he believe such an interview would have been published in the 1930's!!! He further illustrates his lack of second-sourcing his information in the very same paragraph by claiming Cooper didn't have to worry about "knocking her up" since Bow couldn't have children - apparently quite oblivious to the fact that Bow gave birth to two sons several years after the Cooper affair in her marriage to actor Rex Bell!!!! The book concludes with Meyers listing Cooper's films as "best films", "important", "seeable" and a surprisingly large "poor" list including some popular favorites like IF I HAD A MILLION, THE PLAINSMAN, SOULS AT SEA, NORTHWEST MOUNTED POLICE, and CASANOVA BROWN. At least we know THESE are original opinions! Of note the back cover includes a very favorable comment on the book by Bill Clinton. Bill dude, you must have inhaled this time!!!
A simple-minded effort.......1998-08-24
There's nothing new here. Old facts, little analysis, a boring narrative. More of a fan magazine profile than an in-depth biography. Very poorly done.
THE RELUCTANT STAR AND HERO.......1998-07-15
Though still seen today on cable Gary Cooper's movies only tell part of the story. A man that never said 2 words when one would do or even one when a look would do. The book helps us all to understand this Legend of the screen better. Little known facts about his childhood and extensive education are revealed. Proving that images of silence often conceal greater intelligence than the ramblings of the self absorbed.
