The setting: Bologna, Italy, under a sky "as eloquent as a block of cast iron." The hero: Alex, a bright and bored 18-year-old. The genre: coming of age. Alex, anticipating a future of bun-numbing, bourgeoisie-induced boredom and hopelessly in love, takes up with the briskly degenerate--albeit empathic--Martino. Drinking, drugging, and rock-and-roll fill the void left, or created, by Alex's realization of the banality of existence. Enrico Brizzi writes with an insider's view of life in the band--he himself played in a rock band before he was thrown out for bad conduct. What lifts Jack Frusciante Has Left the Band above the more predictable aspects of the coming-of-age story is its tone: energetic and crackling with irony. The author, already a sensation at 22, has become one of Italy's biggest sellers. With the easy, slangy conversational style of The Catcher in the Rye, Brizzi's second novel paints an endearing picture of contemporary youth outrageously scrambling for meaning.

"clockwork orange meets beat generation".......2002-08-31
This book is so irritating for someone who knows something about books. Stile of writing is just like in the book "clockwork orange" : main character is named Alex (get the idea),everithing is named "old this" ,"old that" or "your narator", the guy even wrote it on some imaginative language like "clockwork orange" is also. I'm telling you this should be named "clockwork orange meets beat generation".
Baaaaaaaaaaaad bad bad..........2001-12-14
I read this book in italian after a friend of mine told me it was "beauuuuuutiful"... And I found it just too BAD. It's about preppy people who are trying to act like Trainspotting's protagonists. And they can't do it. I really hated that book. It is the most boring book I've ever read, and keep in mind I'm a teenager myself; but I don't find anything "mine" in the world of "Jack Frusciante e' uscito dal gruppo", everyone is so fake or wrong... And I'm fascinated by the number of people who thinks it is a really good book. Read Irvine Welsh, it's much more better and it expresses the anger and the pain of living in today's world in a more realistic way. Much more realistic. I just don't like to read the problems of a teenager who thinks he's the centre of the world and thinks he has serious problem when they are just stupid. :)
didn't live up to the promise but an author to watch..........2001-10-10
The back cover pitched this as the Italian Catcher In The Rye. A bold claim and one that was almost guaranteed to fall short of the truth. It does.
Ironically for a book that is meant to capture the apathy of youth it is the sections attempting this that are the most disappointing. Falling into the typical teen-angst train-of-thought bracket I found myself speeding through these sections for some meaty dialogue or description.
The finest moments are also the most tender. The narrator's developing relationship with his prospective girlfriend, Aidi, produces some fine writing. One example:
'We lie out on the bed, and just before falling asleep I hear that my breath is slower than hers. About three of hers to two of mine.'
Simple, romantic, effective and touching. It is sections like this that make Brizzi a talent to keep an eye on.
youth.......2001-04-17
this is a really great book. it helps to understand yourself better, when you`re 17 and part of the non-conformist population and don`t really know who you are (like me...). it`s somehow reassuring that you are not alone and understood. sounds a bit stupid, but at times you need to hear this. furthermore, it`s diverting. not really funny but it`s a book you don`t put away before not having finished.
Jack Left & I Should Have Too.......2001-01-12
This coming of age tale had promise. But, lost it somewhere in the pages. Alex is sort of the typical kid going through typical kinds of life experiences. Nothing about this book moved me or made me guess. Basically like reading my older brothers journal in junior high school.

Superhero Archaeology.......2007-04-03
This is interesting as a survey of early Superman stories. It should really be called SM in the 30s & 40s. Facinating to see how much has been re-invented since the early stories.
Superman in the Forties (Superman (Graphic Novels)).......2007-01-04
A 'Superb' Book, allows you to read the 'Old' Comics, without having to pay a 'Fortune' for each Comic !!!!
Superman in the Forties.......2006-06-25
If you are a fan of Superman, this is a must have in my opinion. This is the start of Superman and you can see how his powers have evolved. You will see the first story with Lex Luthor and he had a full head of hair.
A Classic Collection of the Classic Version of Superman.......2005-10-29
From Superman's very first appearance in Action Comics #1, this book takes you on a tour through the development of the legend that he came to be. On the way you get to see Superman championing the little guy by fighting off greedy capitalists, crazed mad scientists and Nazi saboteurs. You also see how Clark Kent avoided the draft. (You, see there was this eye exam....). The super villains are all there too: Toyman, Luthor, the Ultra Humanite, Mxyztplk, Susie Tompkins. (Susie Tompkins?!) Superman visits his home planet Krypton, runs into Kryptonite for the first time, fends off the advances of Lois Lane and meets the original Supergirl. The book also sports an enticing introduction that puts the Legend of Superman in its social context.
(By the way, this book has nothing to do with the "Hardcover Edition" listed on Amazon's webpage. That's a completely different collection of stories entirely.)

Good book.......1999-08-09
This was a good book. I first read it back in 1984. It's about a New York resistance group called White Christmas. It opens with the Vistors, led by Roger, the commander of the New York Mother Ship, and his second-in-command, Angela. Lisa, one of those on the New York Mother Ship, is lied to and told that they've come to Earth on a peaceful scientific mission. That's not true. The Visitors are here to conquer us without a fight. The two miniseries were the pilots for the short-lived 1984-85 television series. It's mentioned in the Larry Niven-Jerry Pournelle science fiction novel Footfall but not in the 1996 science fiction movie Independence Day. Read this book and Footfall.
Just Like "V", only in New York.......1997-06-21
I really enjoyed this book as a 13-year-old, but I haven't re-read it as an adult. For those who have seen the NBC miniseries "V", it's the story of the same events, only told about a New York resistance group
Book Description
Lately the headlines have delivered dispiriting news about wrongdoing and scandal in business. But behind the headlines lies a surprising, untold story: Corporate America is changing for the better. Faith and Fortune tells the stories of the extraordinary people who are leading the way and the admirable companies they have built.
This book is called Faith and Fortune because faith provides the fuel that energizes these people as they strive to do business better and to find meaning in their work. Some have faith in God; others do not. But all have faith in the goodness of people and in the possibility of change. Most of all, they believe that corporations can become a powerful force for good in the world, and that they can—and should—serve people and not the other way around.
Faith and Fortune argues that an exciting new model of conducting business is taking hold, not only in small, socially responsible companies like Ben & Jerry’s but inside such bulwarks of the Fortune 500 as Ford, Citigroup, and DuPont. Bit by bit, almost imperceptibly, this new model is replacing a century-old approach that was rooted in the industrial era and looked at business as a series of discrete, win-lose transactions: Executives tried to pay their workers and suppliers as little as possible, charge their customers as much as they could, and maximize their short-term profits. Today, by contrast, forward-thinking executives build their businesses by developing a network of long-lasting, win-win relationships. Great companies serve their workers, customers, shareholders, and the common good.
Powerful forces are driving these changes, including the desire of companies to attract and engage their workforce, the emergence of the 1960s’ generation to positions of corporate power, the spirituality-in-the-workplace movement, the rise of social investing, and the growth and sophistication of activist groups.
At once realistic and inspiring, Faith and Fortune profiles companies and people who represent the best of business and exemplify these new values. Among the stories told here:
• UPS creates opportunities for immigrants and minorities, promotes from within, and provides its people with a much-valued sense of community
• Southwest Airlines, the fun-loving airline, has built the concept of servant leadership into its storied culture
• Starbucks provides stock options and health insurance even to part-time workers and builds sustainable business models for coffee growers in the developing world
• Timberland has turned community services into a valuable corporate asset
Other companies profiled here include Hewlett-Packard, Herman Miller, Staples, PepsiCo, Domini Social Investments, Tom’s of Maine, and Greyston Bakery. The book also includes a chapter exploring what the great religious traditions have to teach today’s businesspeople about creating sustainable enterprises and an analysis of the business case for corporate social responsibility.
Faith and Fortune is a thoughtful, original, and important book that will reshape the debate about the role of business in America.
“I arrived at this book as an avowed, vocal skeptic of the ‘spirituality-in-business movement.’ I departed as a...convert. Even cynics should devour this marvelous book. Marc Gunther makes a compelling case that the right things matter—and pay off; yet he exudes not a dollop of naiveté.”—Tom Peters, author of Re-imagine! and Thriving on Chaos
“In his provocative inquiry into the nature of modern American business, Marc Gunther looks into the darkness of corporate greed and scandal and, in the shadows cast by the likes of Enron and WorldCom, sees a beacon of hope in companies in which profits and values coexist.”—David Wessel, Deputy Washington Bureau Chief & Capital columnist, Wall Street Journal
“Marc Gunther’s Faith and Fortune is a book of hope. It offers the opportunity to open your mind and your heart in your pursuit of a meaningful life. Its well-drawn examples will deepen your ability to see how leaders can use business as a force that creates true personal wealth and public prosperity.”—Dr. Mark S. Albion, author of Making a Life, Making a Living
“With the keen eye of a seasoned business writer and the gentle confidence of a trusted storyteller, Marc Gunther masterfully provides an insider’s view into the faith-at-work movement—the quiet revolution that is transforming corporate America. After reading Faith and Fortune, you can’t help but wonder, now why can’t I do that in my organization?” —Dr. David W. Miller, executive director of the Yale Center for Faith & Culture, and the former president of the Avodah Institute
“Faith and Fortune offers hope that there is a better way than business as usual. Marc Gunther clearly illustrates that by linking corporate values to personal values; the business leaders profiled in this book have created a new model for addressing the world's problems in these complicated times. This thought-provoking book should be a ‘must read.’”—Timothy E. Wirth, president, United Nations Foundation

Barbie research.......2007-06-08
This book is exactly what it says - a comprehensive review and has an amazing amount of information. This book is perfect for those collectors who still have the doll or product with the original packaging and want an approximate value of that doll or product. The dolls/products are listed by the "title" of the product, i.e. Millenium Bride. What it does not have is alot of pictures.
If you are trying to find out what a particular doll is and/or the value - and all you have is the doll - this is not the best book for the task.
Barbie Book is a hit.......2007-03-20
I love this book, I buy the updated version everytime it comes out. Easy listings so that I can keep track of the value of my collection
Not for the average collector.......2005-06-13
I read the other reviews of this book, and it sounded like it was a good bet. What the other reviews DIDN'T say is that this book is only for those who have New In The Box items! For the average collector who finds dolls in antique malls and garage sales, this is worthless. It only prices items that are unopened in original boxes - perfect mint condition! There are no prices for any other condition level. Also there are virtually NO pictures, making it impossible to use to identify various models . Several reviewers made a big point of there being 50 pages of pictures(actually in the 5th edition it's only 29 pages, 3-6 photos per page, most are of only a single item). Only a handful of Barbies are pictured, with the rest of the pictures being other special items. So if you have one of those typical dolls found in a sale that doesn't have a box with a model number, good luck trying to figure out what you have. This book is worthless for trying to identify which Barbie you are holding, and there is no information at all in the book about identifying the knock-off copies of Barbie on the market. It is strictly a price list by year or model number, with no other information of any kind. If everything you have has boxes with model numbers, the other reviews are right - it's a good book with a VERY comprehensive listing - over 9,000 different items (see why 100 photos is no big deal?!). But if your Barbies are unidentified and in less than store shelf condition, forget it. This book is, a waste of time and money.
ONLY AN UNREAL PRICE LIST.......2002-11-10
This book has a couple of pictures in the front. And the rest are complete and extense lists (vintage & modern dolls and accesories). But the prices are usually not accurate. And to be honest there is no actual good price list to apply to the second market barbie. You pay what you want and can afford. So, it is completely useless to have this book, since 1- It only contains names (no pictures) so it is hard to identify something unless it is NRFB - (in which case you don't need to because it says what it is on the box). 2- The prices are unrealistic.
Barbie.......2001-12-06
I had a huge box of Barbies from various years. This book helped to identify them. I also recommend a fun read about dolls, Dolls Aren't Just for Kids.

Customer Reviews:
Beautiful illustrations give great ideas!.......2007-08-09
This book is more for the beginner than advanced BUT it does have great ideas for every room in your home. It covers a wide variety of styles that are sure to please everyone. The book goes room by room, each covered in three sections; ready, set and decorate.
The getting "ready" section covers the different styles and materials used in decorating (i.e. fabric and window shapes in the window section) - this section clearly defines where to begin and what can be used to change it. The "set" section explains in further detail what needs to be gathered and decided before you decorate. The last section, "decorate" explains techniques used.
If you are interested in ANY of the techniques in this book, you must get additional resources for the "how to" instructions. This book is shy on that BUT it has lots of decorating tips and outlines that will really help any begining decorator.
Don't Waste Your Money.......2006-10-26
Even if you've never read a decorating book before, this book isn't one on which to waste your time and money. It's elementary (do we really need yet another explanation of the color wheel)and glib (don't even think about doing a faux finish based solely on the information in this book). I bought it used for about $2.50 and still think I overpaid.
Good ideas.......2006-06-29
This book has some good ideas to decorate. It is easy to understand. Unique plans for rooms.
Book Description
Strength of the book is the writing style, with an approach that builds from the simple to the complex. Principles of Radiographic Imaging presents clear and concise information on radiographic contrast, density, detail and distortion, and ties those concepts together to present an overall picture of radiographic exposure. Radiographic Imaging is a required part of the Radiologic Technology curriculum, so any student who is studying to be a Radiologic Technologist, will need a book such as this to complete the curriculum.
Customer Reviews:

This book presents a comprehensive introduction to the principles and techniques of radiographic imaging. The physics principles that are the foundation of radiography are explained clearly, with numerous illustrations, examples and solved problems to aid comprehension. Chapters are organized into six units: Creating the Beam, Protecting Patients and Personnel, Creating the Image, Analyzing the Image, Comparing Exposure Systems, and Special Imaging Systems. (KEYWORDS: radiographic technology, radiographic imaging, radiographic physics, imaging modalities)
Customer Reviews:
important text.......2006-01-13
The Electromagnetic Spectrum and the entire chapter on radiation concepts was excellent to learn from. My favorite chapter was on the x-ray tube. The chapter on grids was very helpful and I'm glad I knew this for the American Registry Examination.
Was this book hard to learn from? Not at all.
Was it highly informative? Definitely. It is worth the money. I recommend using this text also with ^The Ultimate Study Guide for the Registry Examination in Radiography:Key Review Questions and Answers (Topics: Radiation Protection, Equipment Operation and Quality Control) Vol 1 isbn 1933023031^
and also
^The Ultimate Study Guide for the Registry Examination in Radiography: Key Review Questions and Answers (Topics: Radiographic Procedures: Anatomy, Physiology, Pathology and Positioning, Patient Care & Education) Vol 3 isbn 1933023066^
This gives you a good idea on what you need to know for the registry exam.
I also recommend
^Atlas of Human Anatomy isbn 1929007116^
This is the best atlas of all-time. It helps out with remembering anatomy concepts for registry exam.
Worst Textbook.......2005-11-30
Of all the books I had to purchase while studying to be a Radiologic Technologist this was the poorest, by far. It is poorly written , does not follow through on its chapter objectives and is a real challenge to read.
carlton and adler radiographic imaging.......2003-02-01
This book does have good content but for those of you who are in your first semesters of Radiology technology it clearly does not simplify the information. It does not produce good examples or diagrams to make learning easy. It is also very cut and dry and makes it very difficult to read. It has no glossary and is poor in producing definitions. I highly recommend Bushong not only is the book fun to read but makes some of the more complex principles easier to understand. The workbook is really great also to help you prepare for your test and the end of the chapter quesions are nice because it helps to check see if you got the understanding of the chapter.
Great first book.......2002-12-10
I find this one a "better" overall textbook than Christensen and Bushong. More inspiring, cosier and fairly well written. Downside : I personally found myself wanting some radiation physics tables that I had to find elsewhere ("Medical Imaging Physics"), and think the authors left out many interesting aspects physics wise, but your average student might find this works out just fine. Almost perfect starter.
Excellent text for students.......1999-10-13
Overall, this is an excellent text for radiography students and also physician residents in radiology. The text is comprehensive and easy to understand. We particularly like the abundance of drawings and tables. The special imaging chapters are very detailed and provide excellent information for students and others who use this text for reference purposes. The chapter on mammography is particularly good as it is the only chapter of its kind in any textbook. This chapter is excellent for those programs that teach comprehensive mammography. The mammography art and images are superb. Seasoned radiography educators are authors of this text and that makes this a unique book and one that is accurate technically.
Book Description
Improve your test scores and increase your understanding of radiographic imaging. This workbook provides worksheet exercises and laboratories that provide opportunities to build upon your knowledge and apply the basic physics principles that are the foundation of radiography. These activities help you achieve a higher level of theory comprehension and provide numerous opportunities for data analysis. The workbook contains 68 laboratory exercises and 38 worksheets.
Book Description
The official inside history of the home of country music--the Grand Ole Opry. This is the story of the birthplace of country music as told by the people who were there--from the birth of country music 100 years ago to the songs and culture its myriad fans know and love today. Nearly every country music icon has crossed the Grand Ole Opry stage, including Hank Williams, Johnny Cash, Dolly Parton, Reba McEntire, Garth Brooks, and recent inductee Dierks Bentley. Drawing from detailed archives of correspondence, photographs, oral histories, and live recordings (few of which have been made public until now), this history offers fans an exclusive look into the heart and soul of country music.
Customer Reviews:
Country Music Fans will love it.......2006-12-30
Subtitled: The Making of an American Icon
The story of how the Grand Ole Opry started and how it remains a vital part of country music today is told by music legends, both current and past. Interviews, notes and letters from legends of today, as well as those who live on only in the hearts of country music fans, are used to bring us little known facts and details about the Opry.
Minnie Pearl, Pee Wee Reese, Hank Williams, Johnny Cash, Patsy Cline and Elvis
Presley all stood on the same stage and felt the same sense of honor at being there.
Funny stories, stories of tragedy and loss and tales from entertainment history are told about, and by, entertainers.
WSM radio started in 1925 as the brainchild of the son of a top executive of National Life Insurance Company. To get backing, he used the call letters WSM that the insurance company had used for years to mean, "we shield millions." The first few years of the fledgling station were rocky. From the struggle to keep the station alive came the idea to air a show called Radio Barn Dance that evolved into the Grand Ole Opry.
The history is interesting, the stories entertaining and the pictures delightful.
Armchair Interviews says: The perfect coffee table book for country music fans.
I wouldn't do it again.......2006-12-26
The history is watery and thin. There is no virtually history of artists and performers except for the few boilerplate "superstars" i.e. Uncle Dave Macon, Bill Anderson et.al. whose bios have been done over and over. You can get as much information about the artists and their history on the Opry webpage.
If you have no knowlege of the Opry, it's a fair general history, but if you're an "opryphile" and you're looking for new information that you've never heard or seen before, pass this one up.

Customer Reviews:
Excellent, insightful, enjoyable!!!.......2002-03-17
I really enjoyed it and hung onto every word. I would recommend it to anyone even if your not a country music fan. I also want to add my own opinion about Vince Gill and his music. My husband has been in extreme pain since October 13, 1993 when he received disabling injuries from work. Since that time he has found the only song that helps ease his pain is Pocket Full Of Gold. He will crank it up as loud as it will go, put the head phones on and without medication his pain melts away in about 30 minutes. What other artist can do that, he hasn't found any yet but Vince.
Vince's Story by Jo.......2001-11-29
Loved the book. Always enjoy reading about Vince and his career. He's come a long way and still have many more years left to soothe us with his beautiful voice and words. Love, Debbie Vince and Amy's Sister In Christ
The nicest man in Nashville is showcased perfectly..........1999-08-24
I thought this book was more of an extended review of all of his albums. It did not go into much detail about his personal life, although it did shed a little light on a few personal things (including his family). Overall, I would recommend this book, but only to those who do not know Vince Gill as the person. This book showcases his interests, especially in golf, and also his charity work. I think most die hard Vince fans are going to know alot about him already.
Very obvious she didn't interview subject.......1999-07-27
Very dis-jointed...mentions his wife all thru the book, very close couple, then suddenly they are divorced, no explanation, no time-frame. If you read her notes on the final pages, you find out she never interviewed the subject...that's obvious!
One of the kings of country.......1999-07-01
I have liked Vince Gill for a long time. But after reading this book, he whent from something more then just a cute guitar player. He became real. This book shows him as a person who whent from bottom to top and worked hard for it. It also shows his love for jenny. He is not just a star who forgets about everything but music and It shows. This book is a must read, For Vinny fans or just music fans.

Book Description
Somewhere in Smalltown, USA, there lives a CEO with a penchant for fancy duds. When two hustlers offer to make him a new wardrobe of the finest denim, silk, and rhinestones, the CEO sends his president and vice president to check out the work in progress. Of course, they're too worried about contradicting their boss to tell him what they see-nothing! Vince Gill lends his vocal talent to the audio CD that includes the complete story and snippets of such favorite country songs as "Gone Country" and Ray Stevens' "The Streak."
Illustrated by Carol Newsom.
