Book Description

A fiery, accomplished literary debut, Loosing My Espanish chronicles the struggles and vicissitudes of the men and women of a tiny Cuban-American community in Chicago who are haunted by history, memory, and myth as they encounter the American dream. Óscar Delossantos has recently been dismissed for a perceived indiscretion from the Jesuit boys’ high school where he has taught for twenty-two years. As his last semester comes to an end, he gives a daring, extended final history lesson: a kaleidoscopic portrait of Cuba as it exists in the hearts and minds of its exiled and dispossessed.

In Óscar’s tale, the weather is a system of extremes; a boy disappears through a hole in the ice; a tender love story unfolds; a murder of crows wreaks havoc; an old woman at the onset of Alzheimer’s burns down her house; sex, religion, family lore, gossip, and both official and reconfigured history all play their part. Throughout Óscar’s raw, sometimes hallucinatory, lyrical testament– at once heartbreaking and ennobling–he reveals not only the shape and substance of his own life, but also the hard, vital, vivid life of his entire community.

Thematically ambitious, linguistically inventive, at once visceral and refined, Loosing My Espanish announces the arrival of a thrilling new voice in American fiction.

2 out of 5 stars Close, but no Cuban Cigar!.......2006-06-04

I picked up a copy of this book out of curiosity. It was difficult for me to read as I do not know "Espanish" very well and the dialogue jumps back and forth quite a bit between English and Spanish/Espanish. I was able to understand for the most part what was going on, though.

I must say that I found some of the writing to be a bit pretentious at times, but the character development was quite excellent. I found myself becoming quite interested in what was going to happen next with the characters.

I found some moments in the book to be quite humorous, whether they were intended to be or not, probably because some events in the book resembled some moments in my youth.

The first two thirds of the book were really quite good, but it became obvious that the last one third of the book was quickly thrown together to finish off the book. The last one third felt quite disjointed, hurried, and hap-hazard. It's a shame that what started out as such a promising novel had to be finished off in such a disappointing fashion. It felt like the author was distracted or being pressured into hurrying up to finish the book to get it published before it really was ready.

Overall, it's an "okay" book, especially considering it was the author's first attempt at writing a novel. Hopefully if he decides to write another book, he'll either take or be allowed to take the time to finish it off properly. It's a shame to start something special and finish it off like it has become something to get done with and out of the way.

5 out of 5 stars Wonderful and Unusual.......2005-12-10

I got this book as a gift, and it sat on my shelf for nearly a year. Couldn't get into it at first, took me a couple of tires, but when I finally got into it WOW! This is a powerful, wonderful and unusual statement about idenity and loss. The lanuage is lyrical and touching, the narrator is compelling. This is one hell of a book.

2 out of 5 stars Loosing my Interest .......2005-08-30

Although I liked and understood what the author was trying to do with this story - the way it was written left me baffled and bored. It was too confusing at times and I lost interest pretty quickly. The transistions didn't seem to flow well and everything just seemed taped and glued together. I didn't finish reading the story - maybe it would've redeemed itself with a fabulous ending but I wasn't interested enough to find out

5 out of 5 stars A Masterpiece!.......2004-11-18

If Marcel Proust and James Joyce were to have had a baby that they taught Spanglish it would be H G Carrillo.

5 out of 5 stars Glorious.......2004-11-13

I finished this novel three evenings ago and am still folded within it. Thank you a thousand times to the author.

5 out of 5 stars One of the best story books ever.......2005-08-16

I have been looking for a copy of this book for years. It was the 2nd book I read by Koontz and fell in love with it. I had read it over several times and fell into the story and art work everytime. Even though it's been over 10 years since I've last seen or read the story, I remember it as if I read it last week. I only wish it was more available for others to enjoy as well. This is definately a story for those who are still a child at heart.

5 out of 5 stars Childhood Favorite.......2005-06-07

I remember reading this book when I was 10, it's stuck with me ever since. Now with kids of my own I can only appricate the story's plot more. I love this story and am only sadden to know that it is no longer in print for other adults and children to enjoy cheaply.

4 out of 5 stars Fable for kids.......2005-05-21

It is a nice story, with a definite "good" advise for kids. I think it would make a good introductory book for youngsters into the "suspense/horror" genre.

5 out of 5 stars Greta, Great simply Great !!.......2005-02-12

I read this book to my kids when they were little, sometime around 1990 I think. We had just moved into a new house( another Navy Move) and of course the children were in new surroundings. My wife was working nights and I was fortunate to be at home with the kids. My children and myself loved the story and it has remained one of their favorite memories of childhood.(Not the only book I ever read to them of course) Even tho' the book is not all sugar and spice its wonderful illustrations helped tremendously. I'm not a fan of Koontz particularly, as I think most of his books are the same tired old things, but I think this book is great for the young and the old.

5 out of 5 stars A book for the young at heart. Buy it........2005-01-04

Originally read to me in the sixth grade by my English teacher, I fell in love with Oddkins. Since then, years and years later, I still love it. All grown up now, I recently decided to obtain a copy of this rather valuable trinket and I look forward to hanging on to it the rest of my life. If you like a good story or if you have kids or if you have grandkids, get this book now. This is the kind of book that you look forward to reading again and again throughout your lifetime. Long enough to be engaging, but short enough to re-read casually, this is a must have.

Sometimes pop culture produces its best comedies by accident--witness the Hula-Hoop craze, roller disco, and now the alien abduction phenomenon. In this hilarious "exposé" David Jacobs reveals the secret agenda that compels aliens to abduct human men and women. Some of the best material is in his section on research methods, where he decries the use of hypnotism by other alien-abduction specialists, because it can produce false memories; he then goes on to explain that most of his data comes from hypnotically induced recollections. The stories he relates from the various abductees he has worked with are all titillatingly sexual, and Jacobs writes that this consistency proves not that people are prone to sexual fantasies, but that the aliens are using humans for their breeding program. Filled with delightful howlers of this sort, The Threat is a laugh riot from beginning to end. Toss out your Dave Barry books and move up to the real thing.

        Book Description

The world's foremost academic expert on UFOs and alien abductions provides the first evidence-based explanation of a mystery that has perplexed scientists for decades.

Based on more than 700 hypnotic-regression interviews with alien abductees and a Roper survey of 6,000 adults, The Threat reveals why the aliens are here and what they want, explains why their agenda has been kept secret, and exposes their frightening plans for earth and its inhabitants. In a direct, authoritative challenge to researchers who believe the abduction phenomenon is essentially benevolent and spiritually uplifting, Professor David M. Jacobs proves that there is a far more disturbing and potentially dangerous plan underway, with possible alien domination at its core.

In this remarkably well-researched and well-written book, Professor Jacob has added a new complexity and depth to our knowledge of the UFO and abduction phenomena. The secret alien agenda revealed here is ominous, but it must be confronted before it is too late.

        1 out of 5 stars Utter garbage.......2007-05-25

How can anyone believe this boring, repetitive rubbish? There are no aliens; but there are certainly crooks making money out of gullible fools. Isn't our real world good enough for you? Grow up!

        5 out of 5 stars Evolution.......2007-05-15

This book clearly shows or at least suggest how mankind evolve from its earliest form. These beings, throughout mankind's history, have refined and intervened with our DNA for hundreds and thousands of years. As scientists eventually realize that there is no "missing link" only then will Dr Jacobs book hold any creedence. It is by no coincidence, that we are the only species on this planet, that has the ability walk up-right, and speak through means of communication. The colonization or outside influence has already began many years ago, and will continue for many years to come.

4 out of 5 stars No longer is the grey agenda in the grey.........2007-04-17

PhD David Jacobs does an good job of evaluating and piecing together the abundant anecdotal evidence. However I won't give 5 stars because I would have preferred a much longer detailed book to back up his startling conclusions. I have followed his work as best I can and based on the corroborated information amassed by him and other abduction researchers even contactees to a degree; I think the overall conclusions of Jacobs match analysis of the data. The grays aren't exactly good or bad but their agenda is problematic to say the least. Eventually when the gray's final plan comes to fruition David Jacobs work will surely held in high status across the world. Until then it's still speculation but worthy of much more study.. Even if everyone were to believe in the threat, unfortunately at this point there is little we can do. If another group of aliens intervene to stop the grays plan then we have nothing to worry about do we? In my opinion that's not going to happen; they would have stopped the transgenic programs decades ago if they had the power.
We will probably have to face the threat on our own. Hopefully the grays understand at some basic level that their plans must ultimately first and foremost take into account human emotion and our need for freedom.

4 out of 5 stars Not too bad.......2007-03-12

This book isn't bad, talks a lot about alien abduction and what their plans are, so if you are into that kind of stuff this would be a good book for you.

5 out of 5 stars Huh? (and an attempt at being helpful).......2005-09-27

I didn't so much as read this book as kind of skim through it. It was all too predictable and too sensationalist.

OK, this is where I'm at. If the aliens need us to breed, and I find this highly suspect since such an advanced race can sure as hell play with DNA strands like we play with pop-it beads, then, if they're so danged highly advanced, why can't they mess with us without so much as smudging our make-up? Also, why let us develop any decent technology, why not keep us in Medieval ignorance?

Ultimately, we've got aliens who are either nincompoops or sadists. Ultimately we've got another "demon" mythology going here, which is what plenty already think.

I don't deny the validity of the "abduction experience," but I also don't deny people channeling, seeing ghosts, encountering poltergeists, and all the other whatnot. There are hard questions to ask here about the nature of reality more than anything else. Seriously, I think an abduction victim should seek out help with some Eastern mystic or a shaman, people who may be able to assist them in seeing the inner significance of their experience. (and also give them some genuine hope). There are an infinite number of universes out there and sometimes we stray into some of the lousy ones.

          Book Description

Jean Anthelme Brillat-Savarin once noted that "nunneries in the old days were veritable storehouses of the most delectable tidbits." Perhaps that is why the much-maligned Lucrezia Borgia is said to have truly felt at home only in the company of pious cloistered nuns. In his landmark study, Holy Anorexia, Rudolph Bell focused his attention on holy women who survived on nothing but the eucharistic wafer. Cristina Mazzoni, taking the opposite tack, savors the food writings and images of a broad spectrum of Catholic saints and holy women. A native of Italy and a splendid cook herself, Mazzoni accords due attention to her fellow countrywomen, as well she should given the importance of Italian cookery (Catherine of Genoa, Angela of Foligno, Gemma Galgani), but includes numerous other holy women and their cuisines as well: Germany (Hildegard of Bingen, Elisabeth of Schönau, and Margaret Ebner), France (Margaret Mary Alacoque, Thérèse of Lisieux), Spain (Teresa of Avila! ), colonial South America (Sor Juana Inès de la Cruz), England (Margery Kempe), and even the United States (Elizabeth Ann Seton, who was the first person born in the United States to be canonized by the Roman Catholic Church).

In her Introduction, Mazzoni invites the reader "to seek out and savor with me…the food concocted, dished out, bitten into, tasted, and swallowed in the writings of holy women: food that may be mundane, unexceptional, and commonplace, but food that may also be delicious, nutritious, indulgent, or healthful. Whether in the form of stockfish and stew or chocolate and jam, whether cooked as lasagna with greens or curdled into a fine or bitter cheese, this food—through metaphors and similes, through anecdotes and memories—leads to mystical connections, underlines the presence of meaning even, or especially, in the midst of seeming meaninglessness, and leads us to share in the pleasure of cooking, eating, and learning at a divine table in God's kitchen."

            Book Description

Celebrating the seasonal cuisine served at the White Barn Inn Restaurant in Kennebunkport, Maine, this exquisite cookbook brings home the elegance of that Relais & Châteaux establishment. A 19th-century country house with an adjacent barn that gives the property its name, the inn combines rustic Maine ambiance with European-style service and innovative New England cuisine. Featuring 100 recipes from the kitchen of executive chef Jonathan Cartwright, The White Barn Inn Cookbook presents menus ranging from intimate gatherings to elegant dinner parties. From a spring seafood feast of Lobster Spring Roll in a Thai-inspired Sweet Spicy Sauce and Grilled Tournedos of Local Cod Loin with Crispy Shrimp and Calamari, to a "Day after Thanksgiving Driving Tour of Picnic" of Spiced Pumpkin Soup, Turkey Sandwich with Stuffing and Cranberry Relish, and Butternut Squash Cookies, it's a treasury of superb meals.

4 out of 5 stars Savor the Experience, Enjoy the Book!.......2007-04-02

The world-famous White Barn Inn, the culinary star of the New England coast, let alone Kennebunkport is a multi-faceted experience and this cookbook transports the reader there! With an emphasis on fresh local ingredients, amplified by world-class photography, no one can walk away from this cookbook without, albeit grudgingly, salivate over one or all of the dishes presented. My favorite had to be the seafood martini - part cocktail, part appetizer.

Unlike other reviewers' I suggest the key to replicating these receipes is the traditional "mis en place" of prep work. With that be it a pbj sandwich or a culinary centerpiece from the White Barn Inn - will be a challenge but not impossible! If you are lucky enough to visit the Inn, be sure to try a "SideCar" made traditionally and perfectly. Sante'!

3 out of 5 stars More reading than cooking pleasure.......2004-06-09

Visitors to Maine may enjoy this one for its evocative design. Cartwright, chef at the Kennebunkport establishment, shares 140 of his recipes and Sully waxes ecstatic over the charms of the Inn and its location. The lush photographs (lots of food close-ups) are stunning.

For those who have eaten or stayed at the Inn, this is a gorgeous keepsake. Ambitious, experienced cooks with time to make a batch of lobster bisque in advance of their Poached Eggs on Lobster Hash may enjoy the challenge. For the rest of us, it's a mouthwatering read-only.

Each seasonal chapter opens with menus. A spring seafood dinner menu begins with "Diver-Harvested Scallops on Asparagus with Champagne Foam and Caviar," moves on to a lobster spring roll with a "Thai-inspired" sauce, a palate clearing lemon sorbet, a main course of "Grilled Tournedos of Local Cod Loin with Crispy Shrimp and Calamari on a Spring Pea Puree with a Piquant Sauce, and then a " `Twice-Baked' Rhubarb Crepe Soufflé with Buttermilk Ice Cream." You get the picture.

There are some simple recipes - a Barbecue Mayonnaise to use in lobster rolls, Wild Rice Salad, peach or berry iced teas, various sorbets - and there are some great presentation ideas (right down to the best shape of plate), cooking tips and ingredient suggestions (i.e. early harvested wild rice). But mostly this is a book to wow the reader and inspire a visit to the Inn for the real thing. Which is probably the point.

2 out of 5 stars An Attractive Picture Book and Advertisement with Recipes.......2004-01-14

This book chronicles recipes from the White Barn Inn in Kennabunkport, Maine in a seasonal format, very similar to the recent titles `The Arrows Cookbook' and `The Vineyard Kitchen'. The recipes in seasonal menus are wrapped in text describing the White Barn Inn and information about other hostelries in the Relais and Chateau chain of hotels and resorts. The object of the book seems primarily to publicize this hotel, restaurant, and chain. Since I had never heard of either before opening this book, the book has succeeded in that goal. As an interesting culinary work, the book is a failure, especially compared to the worthy titles mentioned above.

When rating cookbooks, I start with three stars if the book meets my expectations, give it four stars when it does so with high quality material, and give it five stars if it's content exceeds my expectations. If the book does not meet my expectations, it gets two stars. If it tries to pull the wool over my eyes, it gets one star. `The Arrows Cookbook' set my expectations for this book, a seasonal cookbook for an inn in Maine, and, unfortunately for this title, the bar was set pretty high.

The text by Susan Sully, who appears to be primarily a travel writer, comes straight from a travelogue or advertising brochure. It is aimed entirely at encouraging you to visit this inn with sugary prose. I felt like I was gaining weight just reading her sections. I had the first inkling of what was afoot when the acknowledgments were to flower, cutlery, and antique purveyors.

The introductory material cites 140 recipes. This number is heavily inflated by including recipes for stocks, sauces, infused oils, vegetable purees, and smoothes, lemonade, and sandwiches. The inflation continues with a number of recipes for venison and pheasant. Once you get past the fluff, the recipes are heavily weighted toward local Maine seafood, especially lobster and scallops. An examination of the recipes reveals a competence you would expect from a chef at a highly rated restaurant. The lobster stock / bisque recipes use all the parts in the usual way. My only surprise was that while the lobster roe was used, there was no mention of using the lobster tamale.

The photographs in the book are worthy of the glossy, oversize format. I especially liked the one of the silver Porsche Carrera. The layout and typesetting was well done. The price was reasonable, and another clue that the object of the volume was to advertise.

The book would make a better than average souvenir for a visit to the White Barn Inn and it has a reasonable collection of lobster recipes. I would rather spend my money on a good paperback of seafood recipes by James Beard, James Peterson, or Alan Davidson.

Just as an aside, I wonder where the Publisher's Weekly reviewer's head is at when they give this book a flowery review, yet pan the ambitious Pino Luongo book on his Tuscan cuisine. Go figure.

              Book Description

Zsolnay ceramic art from Hungary, featuring over 400 color photographs, covers the three main periods of Zsolnay production: 1868 to 1897--Folklorism, Historicism, Victorian Eclecticism; 1897 to 1920--Art Nouveau; and Art Deco; and 1920 to the present--Modernism. An entire chapter is devoted to Zsolnay marks to help identify the pieces. There are almost 11,000 different forms of domestic Zsolnay art works; 700 were issued in 1900 alone, and there are many undocumented forms imported in England and America. Along with the charming miniature, green-glazed, multi-figural series that Zsolnay is most identified with today, there is a wealth of earlier pieces to be found. A value range is given for each item in the book.

                Book Description

A fresh approach to the art of drying and arranging flowers, Dried Flowers for All Seasons shows how to create dried flower arrangements with the color and appeal of fresh flowers. Most dried flower books take a craft approach to dried flowers that results in arrangements looking pale and lifeless - dried. Using the Gertley's time-tested techniques, anyone can dry flowers that look nearly alive, preserved with the vibrancy and color of being just picked from the garden. Especially amazing is the fact that flowers not usually associated with dried arrangements, like spring flowers such as tulips and daffodils, can be dried as successfully as more traditional types for drying and look stunningly alive. The book is arranged by season and there are several types of arrangements for each, including wreaths, sprays, and traditional bouquets. Seasonal arrangements use flowers of the season for dramatic effects. Unusual holiday arrangements give this book special appeal.

Dried Flowers for All Seasons is also the most complete book on dried flowers, including in-depth information on growing flowers to dry, detailed instructions for drying techniques suitable for a wide variety of flowers, as well as a glossary of over 60 flowers particularly suitable for drying. Michael Gertley's vivid color photography and Jan Gertley's warm and elegant illustrations document the step-by-step directions for creating the arrangements.

Love this book simply because as someone who loves to travel it was a book I needed to help me find a non cluttered way of showing off items I have acquired while retaining the Zen or quiet spirit I wanted in my place. Also like that a variety of styles are shown, that I call Jamaican, Latin, Indian, Zen and European.

                5 out of 5 stars A Gift.......2007-06-27

An absolutely beautiful piece of work. These women, and Mohr, have provided a wonderful gift in this book. Few things compare to the images of these women full of life. My only recommendation, more. More photos, more women from a broader spectrum of ethnic backgrounds.

5 out of 5 stars "The consummate fulfilment of the feminine".......2005-06-05

So says one of the models, describing her own state.

This is a very different vision of a woman's beauty. Mohr has captured about twenty models in the later months of their pregnancies. It's a beautiful, joyous collection - these women all want to be photographed, want to be seen at their fullest. They want to be celebrated in that part of their life that is uniquely womanly. Most of them talk about how their curves are loved within their families, and are generous enough to let the viewer love them too, just a little.

These are very strong people, as Martina and especially Katrin show. They have friends or lovers, as Andrea shows. Their figures are elegant, as Andrea, Anke, Cara, and Sarah show. They are more than just bellies, as Kolja shows, they people first with other lives. But they are women, too, sometimes more womanly because of their grand figures and because of all the other changes in their bodies.

There are many collections dedicated to women's beauty. Very few of them describe the whole woman, in all the ways that she can be. The may skip early life, or later life, or giving life. Pregnancy may be the most important time of life, because every living person, even you, came from a pregnancy.

I happen to be a kind of guy whose greatest turn-on is a nude portrait of a beautiful woman who is in a sensitive period, who is expecting, in a family way, in her pregnancy in late stages. When I first opened this volume and saw the cover of smiling preggy lady I just knew that I had finally come up with the photo book of my dream! And in color! Sensual, but with a lot of "class"! This is a photo anthology created by a cameraman Ralf Mohr who himself is a fanatic lover of pregnant figures. Absolutely a great job my dear Ralf, I really admire your works. Next time perhaps, please do include shots of their most intimate female anatomy and with some ropeworks added to spice up the scenes even more!

The Ninth Month is an exquisite collection of photographs by Catherine Steinmann celebrating the ninth month of pregnancy. The photographs are organized in two sections, New York and Kauai. New York introduces subjects who pose with expressive translucent fabrics in the studio. Kauai presents images made on the idyllic Hawaiian island, where the women are photographed in a water environment. Steinmanns ethereal images provide a mirror reflecting womens souls days before they give birth. Radiating life, The Ninth Month gently but firmly shatters social taboos that favor hiding the full form of the pregnant woman. Catherine Steinmanns sensitive and empathetic eye captures not only the pregnant bodys graceful form, but also the experience of pregnancy in its most life-affirming light.

I bought this book for a pregnant friend of mine after seeing Danica on Oprah. The pictures will take your breath away. It's a beautiful celebration of the joys of being pregnant. This would be a great pick-me-up for a women who doesn't feel especially beautiful during her pregnancy, or an inspirational idea book for creating a pregancy photo album. I loved it so much that I didn't want to give it away...

2 out of 5 stars Nice photography of beautiful pregnant women.......2001-07-31

Don't get me wrong, I think the photography in this book is very well done and some of the photos are very interesting, but I think it can be a rather depressing book for the basic female population.

I am an OB/GYN and I constantly see women who are concerned about their weight or their body image when pregnant and I dont see this book as being very helpful. I see famous models and wives that are pregnant but not reflective of the general pregnant population. I think they should have shown the woman that weighs 180-200 lbs or the woman with stretch marks and how beautiful they can be as well.

I would not consider placing this in my waiting room for fear of a riot from my patients. I think all pregnant women are beautiful and they dont need to spend (money)on a book that shows them......they need to be told by their spouses.

Spend the money on "What to expect when you're expecting."

5 out of 5 stars Inspirational photography for pregnant moms.......2001-06-06

I purchased this book hoping to show it to women, and get them interested in being photographed by me, while pregnant. This is a beautiful book, showing how gorgeous women can look during pregnancy, and they're not just "fat". It makes me wish I had photographs taken like these. The book is well put together too, with sheer vellum pages with the photos printed on them, as well as regular pages. A classy production.

4 out of 5 stars Beautiful photos capture a precious time.......2001-05-15

The photography is beautifully done...although I would have loved to have seen at least ONE stretch mark, or one non-airbrushed photograph (but I guess that wouldn't sell as well). The pregnant form is just amazing...and it is captured beautifully in these photographs. All of the women seem to be around 6-7 months, however...and I would have loved to have seen some that were closer to their estimated due dates. At any rate, a very well done book...worth the money.

                5 out of 5 stars A Wonderful, Touching Book!.......2001-04-23

I was thrilled with this book. The photos are beautiful. The text is inspirational. I think this is a wonderful book for about the joy and miracle of birth. Thank you!

                Book Description

Catherine Steinmann Pregnant Nudes is a 60 page book consisting of 25 Black and white photographs. This book is perfect for the Pregnant woman, an expecting friend, or a family member. "Expectant mothers want a record of themselves during that very short period in their lives. Others come back for a second time to satisfy their first child' inquiries about the provenance of their baby brother or sister." says Steinmann.

4 out of 5 stars Having this kind of title is a joy, but...........2001-10-01

Beauty of nude pregnant women is one undeservedly ignored category in paintings, photoes, movies, visual art in general. It is still obscene just to talk about it in public, let alone publishing a coffeetable book full of pregnant nude visual.Just like the case of female masturbation, it is still a no-no even now---in our post sex-revolution millenium.
Only recently, visual books like this title have started to be published. I think it is one of the most heart warming news and would like to offer my sincere wellcome and support for Steinmann and the people like her, who dared to get into this garden of forbidden beauty.
However, I would like to see more wonderfully erotic aspect of pregnant women as one of the most ardent admirer of pregnant nudes. For example, it should be in color and it shoud include a lot of pregnant female genitals, because I would like to enjoy the beauty of pregnant women in its fullness. I think Steinmann is the kind of photographer who can do this with subtlety, polish and wonderful eroticism.

3 out of 5 stars Good Pictures, but not for a Pregnant Mania.......2000-07-18

When you turn the first page of this photo album, you will immediately know sincere and serious intention of the artist, Catherine Steinmann. The whole volume is an homage for beautiful pregnant body, which I am one of the most ardent admirer. Each photo's high artistic quality and the photographer's tender eyes for the ladies in a delicate condition prevent this title from becomming a banal preggie porn. I found Steinmann emphasized a little bit too much on trying different photo techniques, while ignoring to capture the 'drama' of each pregnant nude, and thus made the whole volume less sensual. As I said, I'm crazy about pregnant female figure, but I did not fall in love with this title...

4 out of 5 stars Another unofficial book..........2002-08-29

I love the fact that there's unofficial merchandice on the Moffatts, but sadly these books tend to have some faulty information. So it is with this book. However, it has a lot of background information about their past and what they did before starting to sing pop/rock, and lots of nice [and adorable] pictures.

The author did most of her research online, and the book lists some fanpages URLs, most of which no longer exist. Makes me wish she'd written it during the great Moffatt domain phase, she'd have had tons more info to write about, and hopefully it'd have been more correct as well. Can't have it all though.

Overall a good book for any fan, just beware of the faults.

5 out of 5 stars The greatest Moffatts book ever.......2000-02-29

I really liked this book because it told me a lot about how the Moffatts started singing together and what they were like before they got famous. I think that they are the most down-to-earth, nice guys in pop and I even like their country songs, they're the only country group I liked. They're the greatest and if you're a fan like me, you'll like this book.

                    1 out of 5 stars I hated this book.......2000-02-20

The reason I got it was because it was a moffatt book. As I was reading through it...I found a lot of info wrong! And the author acted like she was there with them through all their struggles. If the Moffatts actually said this stuff...I could understand...but in the credits "couldnt do this without the internet world" or whatever! That is where they got their info. Internet sites are not very correct! The Moffatts Rock though and if you like them, I suggest you get it cause it's a book for your collection! :)

                    5 out of 5 stars totally rocks.......2000-01-08

it is an interesting books about the brand new all boy band the moffatts...it tells about their life as young heart throbes and their adventures with the thousands of girls!
