Book Description

November 5, 1775 - The Kumeyaay Indians attacked in force overnight, storming the Spanish Presidio at Misión San Diego. Despite early successes, they were repulsed by the Spaniards, beginning what would prove to be the Kumeyaays' near-extinction as a sovereign nation.

What caused this rebellion? What propelled men and women alike into this desperate struggle? At almost the precise time the United States are asserting their own freedom, the heretofore peaceful Kumeyaay are losing theirs.

Mission, a poignant new novel by Margaret Wyman, tells the story of Web, a young Kumeyaay bride whose life and dreams are shattered when the Spanish padres and army leatherjackets invade Southern California to secure this land of haunting beauty for the Spanish crown. Their method is ruthlessly simple: "convert" the indigenous Indians to their religion - by enticement or by force - then use them as virtual slave labor to build a series of fortified missions. Web endures ridicule, rape, and the deaths of her family and friends at the hands of the Spaniards - until she can take no more.

5 out of 5 stars Mission:The Birth of California, the Death of a Nation.......2003-02-03

I was delighted to come across this incredible book by Margaret Wyman. Having taught fourth grade in California for ten years, I thought I had a good understanding of the relationship between the native Americans and the Spanish. This indredible story of a Kumeyaay Indian woman, took me to new heights of understanding, and stirred emotions in me from compassion and sadness for the natives, to rage and disgust of the Spanish. The author does an exceptional job of bringing her characters to life. I literally could not put the book down as I raced to learn the fate of these intriguing characters. Margaret Wyman writes with passion and ingenuity. I highly recommend this fine book.

5 out of 5 stars The TRUE Story!.......2002-11-28

Besides telling the dirty truth, this book will keep you reading and biting your nails until the very end. (In fact, you will be asking "What's Next?") The book is that good!
Just remember that beyond the kind, decent, misguided and sometimes sordid characters, the story is historically accurate, even when the truth is frightening and shameful.

4 out of 5 stars The Mission: The Birth of California, the Death of a Nation.......2002-10-24

Margaret Wyman has written a compelling story about early California and its invasion by Spain and the Catholic church. Surprising twists and turns are followed through the intertwining of the lives of the natives, the Spanish soldiers, the Mexicans, and the "black robes". Good and Evil, sanity and madness, religious fervor and native beliefs are all portrayed in this novel.
I hope that her future titles will be as readable.

5 out of 5 stars A brutal tale of the subjugation.......2002-10-09

Mission: The Birth Of California, The Death Of A Nation is an historical novel set against the conquest of Southern California by the Spanish crown, set at the same era as when the United States was fighting for its independence. A brutal tale of the subjugation, forced religious conversion, enslavement, and massacre of California's native people seen through the eyes of a young woman who personally experiences the worst and most vicious of the conquistadors' treatment. A disturbing but highly recommended saga by Margaret Wyman, Mission accurately depicts the historical, genocidal impact that foreign settlement had on California's native population.

5 out of 5 stars Mission The Birth of California The Death of a Nation.......2002-09-30

Margaret Wyman was blessed with the gift of story telling. She has the extraordinary talent of bringing her characters to life. I only wish I had the talent and eloqence to encourage you to read Mission. I found myself discussing Web with one of my friends as if I were reminiscing about my own sister. On daily walks along the trails of Lake Hodges I envision Web and feel her spirit as if she truly existed. Web's story has touched my soul and enlightened my view of Southern California history.

4 out of 5 stars The 4th 3.5 Core Rulebook.......2007-07-12

I've always enjoyed psionics, but this is the first version that has finally gotten it right.

The only gripe I have, other than a few typos and errors, is the fact that psionic dragons didn't make it into a Dungeons & DRAGONS book about psionics. 4 out of 5 because of that.

3 out of 5 stars Just rules.......2007-05-31

For those looking for new material to get inspiration from, this is not the best thing to buy. But, it has tons and i mean TONS of new rules, feats, powers and items to enhance the D&D experiencie. The classes are very fun to play and the powers are also. Great for those looking for something new to start from.

4 out of 5 stars A fabulous addition, but missing some things despite its thickness.......2007-05-16

I was really eager to add this book to my DnD library, and I'm not sorry I did. This book is a wealth of information. The psionic monsters are really interesting and well-written, and the variety of feats available could knock you over. The revamp of psionics from 3.0 was much-needed; all the classes are now much more balanced. You won't be dissapointed, and it's worth the money.
I highly reccomend getting The Complete Psionic; it gives you a few new options that could enhance your psionic characters. Complete Psionic (Dungeons & Dragons Supplement)

However, there are a few things lacking. First off, a lot of the prestige classes are almost identical. It would have been better to offer a wider variety of prestige classes, especially ones that cater to more of psion disciplines, and keep the similiar ones for a web enhancement. Also, they only give you ONE model of a psionic golem in the book, no guidelines for creating one, and no variety to choose from. This was very dissapointing and was never addressed in the errata (or The Complete Psionic, for all that matters). There were also only two racial feats available for maenads; I think they deserved a little more attention than that.

4 out of 5 stars Better than the original.......2006-02-23

Much better than the original. Flows much more logically and makes alot more sense. However, I would not recommend getting it unless you plan on psionics being a major part of your campaign.

4 out of 5 stars I give up...I mean...I just give up..........2005-09-26

This one is 3.5 right? Hardcover. 224 pages - that's the most ever. Good enough right? WOTC is coming out with yet another hardcover psionic book on April 11, 2006, 160 pages. What the hell is that about? Psionics Handbook, Expanded Psionics, and now the most ironically entitled book I've heard since "The Closing of the American Mind" by Allan Bloom..."COMPLETE PSIONICS". I kid you not. And WOTC says it's supposed to "COMPLEMENT" the Expanded Psionics book. So if it complements that book and has 64 pages less, it's hardly frikkin' COMPLETE NOW IS IT!!!

it is one of the best d and d books ever. get it. don't ask, just get it.

1 out of 5 stars The epitomy of crappity crap.......2003-10-27

For One, Psionics has no place in fantasy

For Two, d20 did a horrible job of trying to craft it

For Three, why didn't they just make Mind Flayers have spell like abilities? What the hell is wrong with that?

I wouldn't pay $20 for this book, and I damn sure wouldn't pay $30.

2 out of 5 stars Buy with caution.......2003-10-12

The psionics system is okay, except for the extremely lousy prestige classes and the fact that psychic warriors don't get bonus power points. For prestige classes for the spellcasters, most add to the caster level of the base class giving you more power, but these don't making them virually useless.
For example, the Meta-mind prestige class is supposed to be all about "power points to burn" actually ends up with fewer power points and less power than sticking with the psion base class. The psychic warrior is probably the only base class with spells/powers that does not get extra slots (or power points) for having a high attribute; no explanation is given for this wacked-out exception to the rule. Finally, do NOT buy this if you just want the supposed "free 3.5 upgrade on PDF" like I did; the upgrade has to do with other books like the Fiend Folio and the Manual of the Planes, not Psionics; I don't know why it's even mentioned in connection with this book. When the real 3.5 version comes out in April 2004, hopefully they will fix the egregious errors mentioned above as well as the stupid typos. They should also allow for trading powers out like the sorcerer and bard.
Anyway, this was good first effort on a more balanced system for psionics; it is absolutely nothing like the 2nd edition version where powers will randomly fail on you but they aren't quite as powerful although mind blast may strike you as being too cheap and too powerful (blame it on the mind flayer).

2 out of 5 stars A sick joke.......2003-07-21

I was a big fan of 2nd Edition psionics. My favorite class to play was psionicist. But with 3rd Edition, psionicists have become nothing more than wimpy mages.

Now, I like the idea of a psychic warrior. That is the one thing the book did right.

However, WotC foolishly claims that psionics is magic, when it is inherently not. They then give the "psion" all the weakness of a sorceror, but with none of the raw power. Psionics is now nothing special. They claim it was for balance, but I think the problem lies on those who do not wish for psionics to have a chance on stepping on wizards' toes.

Instead, if you want psionics, I must recommend using "Forbidden Kingdoms" instead. Their psionics systems use the skill d20 mechanic instead of the magic mehcanic, and works much better and truer to psionics than this...book.

5 out of 5 stars An excellent accessory for players who want more variety..........2003-01-14

One of my players has been trying to integrate psionics for a long time, but the only availible resource I could use to referece was the 2nd edition version, which was completely useless to the 3e/d20 rules. Finally, he bought this book, and showed it to me. Instantly everything made since on the first read, it was clearer than the players handbook and DM guide were. Although the psionics were brought to the same rules as sorcerers, that allowed for better integration. The rules on how to settle conflicts between magicians and psychics were clear. The rules are so close fit that I actually recommend psychics be added into most games, since this class does not upset the balance in the game.

5 out of 5 stars Stop whining about it being "to powerful" or comparing psionics to wizards.......2007-03-07

Ok ill jump straight to it. Psionics using second edition rules (which is the correct way since third edition makes them nothing more then weak sorcerers) are not unbalbalancing in any way because of one very important aspect. All psionics have to be LAWFUL. That simple. They are not going to read random peoples thoughts, teleport into random rooms to steal, dominate or mind control anyone "just because". They need a good reason to do what they are doing, if they dont have a good reason then they are becoming chaotic and will loose access to their abilitys. A chaotic person doesnt have the discipline to do what a psion does.

In Greyhawk, Forgotten Realms, Ebberron, amd most campagins, magic is a invicable force that affects all things in a invisable weave (kinda like the Force in Star Wars) in Dragonlance they come from the moons, and in Dark Sun they come from living plants and animals, that is how mages get there power. A psionic gets his power soley from his mind, he can do just fine in a magic dead zone.

Finally psionics are not overpowered because i gurante they will not make all there power score checks when they need to, and they better have some allies there to help them. Also psionics in 2nd edition rules only have one power that can affect a group of enemys (called death field pshcyometabolics) and that comes with a great cost to the psion. All other powers are individual only, so really a 3rd level psionic has a better chance of beating a ogre then three goblins.

If you have looked at second edition youll see that the powers listed are unique in the way they work, with maitnance cost and power scores needed. Third edition psionics are just a different (wearker) type of sorcerer. Power may come from the mind but it does the exact same stuff. I run 3.5 edition campaign but use 2nd edition psionics. basically you use the chart giving in the 3.5 psionic handbook for skill points, feats, save throw, etc. but for the powers you use the 2nd edition handbook. To calculate a saving throw for a target I use this formula. 1d20 + penalty to power check + main stat modifier = will power save DC.

For example John the telepath is going to use psionic blast on a ogre. John has a wisdom of 18. Psionic blast is Wis -6. First he uses contact, since this power cant hurt the ogre i dont allow a saving throw (you may if you like but thats up to you) then the next round he rolls a d20. (wis of 18 - 6 = 12) he needs a 12 or lower to even activate the power. If he rolls higher then a 12 then the power doesnt even attempt to work, if he rolls lower then the power works. Assuming it works lets see if it hurts the ogre, he gets a Will save to ignore it. Save DC is 1d20 + 6 (the penalty to the power score) + 4 (wis mod). If you wanted you could just say that the d20 roll is allways a 10 (like magic works) but i find that using a random roll on every save makes psioncs feel different to.

I have more to add but I think ive written way to much, if youd like to comment good or bad, go nuts

5 out of 5 stars How Psionics should be.......2003-01-05

This is the start of psionics in 2nd Edition. It is far surperios than the d20 version, which is absolute "garbage". Better abilities and much nicer, although some are overpowered.

Translate this into the d20 similar by making it similar to the Forbidden Kingdoms system, as psionics should be skills, not spells.

4 out of 5 stars Good, but not necessary.......2001-06-06

This book is great for AD&D players and Dungeon Masters alike. However, everything you can find in this book is also found in the Player's Option: Skills and Powers book as well. Save your money for the Player's Option book; the complete psionics handbook is a waste

5 out of 5 stars Psionics Rocks.......2000-07-10

This book is worth the buy, I was realy wanting to know what was contained in it and it was worth it. Buy this book it is extreamly useful in D&D especialy for Dragon Psionist but it's worth it.

4 out of 5 stars Unorthodox and innovative - careful integration is worth it!.......2000-06-09

The PHBR (Player's Handbook Reference) series is one of the most highly-regarded, and yet much-maligned, series of supplements ever created. Each sourcebook takes one of the races or classes of the AD&D game, and adds to it huge amounts of new detail - new equipment, spells, kits (sub-classes), lore, new rules, etc. The problem is that the players love these so much that the DM often feels compelled to buy into the rest of the series - an expensive proposition! Fortunately, these works were "reprinted" in the excellent AD&D Core Rules CD-ROM. This one introduces the powerful and alien class of the Psionicist - if you are not running a Spelljammer or Dark Sun campaign, you will want to think VERY carefully before allowing this class to players! The power and versatility of these characters is amazing. Details of this book include: the Psionicist class and restrictions, a full explanation of psionic powers, disciplines, and advancement, special abilities, the powerful Wild Talents, psionic combat (a great system), the great powers (Clairsentience, Psychokinesis, Psychometabolism, Psychoportation, Telepathy, and Metapsionics), running a psionics campaign, and great monsters! It's a wonderful book - and used carefully, it will add a whole new dimension to your games.

Assembled as beautifully as a Chinese puzzle, this slim book exudes the pleasures of a particularly popular aspect of Asian cooking. From page 1, Joyce Jue makes you smell the smoke and sizzling spices as she brings alive the bustling, colorful world of Asian street food. Many favorite dishes from Indian samosas and sticks of grilled sate to pad Thai noodles and fiery green mango salad are included. Jue's directions are easy to follow, even for making dumplings from scratch or for handling the rice paper disks used to make spring rolls. If you'd rather eat Asian street food than prepare it at home, this book will hone your knowledge of what to look for in your culinary travels.

              5 out of 5 stars Authentic.......2001-03-06

The recipes in this book taste very authentic. The chicken and sticky rice in lotus leaf parcels is the real thing...tasted just like the dim sum resturant. The book is an excellent collection of the most popular or signature dishes of the Asian cuisine ranging from Chinese to Indonesian. It is organized by in the traditional cookbook fashion of appetizers to desserts. Some of the recipes are very simple and some are compound recipes (recipes that rely on the recipe of another dish). It's worth the space on your cookbook shelf and is a good way to sample a variety of different far east ethnic cuisines.

4 out of 5 stars tasty looking recipes.......2000-09-20

It's not a very large book, but it's got a pretty wide range of recipes from several different countries. All the recipes look very tasty, and there are some fabulous pictures to go along with each. Recipes range from the very simple to moderately complex, so this book should offer an entertaining range of challenges to most kitchen savvy people. This would be a good book for people interested in learning about asian cuisine, or those looking for more recipes to try out. All the ingredients should be relatively easy to find, although some will require a trip to a specialty store. If you live anywhere with a chinatown, finding ingredients shouldn't be a problem.

How can it be that a book with only one word--hug--repeated throughout, can be so good? The proof is in the pudding (or the wilds of Africa) in Jez Alborough's picture book Hug, a delightful mini odyssey of a baby chimpanzee on the hunt for his mum and a cuddle.

Our little friend wanders through the trees, witnessing many other animals from chameleons to giraffes as they snuggle together. "Hug," he says, happily, at first, but then with growing despair as he sees there are no hugs for him. The story is told purely by the expression on the little chimp's face as his hopes are built up and dashed again until eventually, with a huge smile, he finds his mum and reaps the reward.

Hug is a clever, unusual book that portrays the art of children's illustration at its very best: a story brought to life with the stroke of a brush through facial expressions and body language that children will immediately understand.

Ideal for sharing with small ones, this lovely book is a warm, comforting read that cannot fail to please. (Ages 1 to 4)

                    Book Description

"Like a wordless book, the story unfolds through a series of expressive pictures. . . .Alborough makes clear . . . the elation the animals gain from their shared affection." —PUBLISHERS WEEKLY (starred review)

Bobo needs a hug. But his friends don't seem to understand. "Hug," he implores, time and again. Time and again his puzzled pals — from the smallest chameleon to the tallest giraffe — shrug and cuddle with their jungle mothers. As the lonely chimp's plea escalates, his friends grow concerned. Can the elephants lead Bobo to his heart's desire? Jez Alborough transforms a total of three words — and some of the most tenderly expressive animals ever created — into an endearing tribute to love and belonging.

I have three kids: 5,3,and1 year(s) old. They all love this book and because there isn't really much text, besides the word "hug" they can all read the story. After reading it to them it always gives us a reason to hug....and don't we all need a little reason to do that more?

5 out of 5 stars Hug is the Greatest.......2007-04-19

Few childrens' books are as tender and entertaining as this one. Just goes to show that all a kid really needs is a hug from someone they love, in this case Mommy.

A monkey is lost in the jungle. As he/she tries to find Mom the reader meets many colorful and fascinating animals. These exotic creatures are a great learning opportunity for younger readers to identify, imitate, even spell the names of each animal. And of course we are treated to a touching reunion with Mom.

A simple story, told with tenderness and sincerity.

I bought this due to good reviews and great pictures but I have to say, I got bored with it quickly. My daughter just now 3 is just starting to get it.

5 out of 5 stars we love this author!.......2007-02-06

The illustrations are amazing! What's great about this book is that because of the limited use of words, a parent can embellish and vary the story each time it's read. It's also nice that the words are illustrated as opposed to written at the bottom of the page in a typestyle. It is SUCH a special book that conveys a sweet, simple message.

The talented husband and wife team of Michael and Kathleen Hague have once again created a delightful treasure for the nursery library. This precious little book is just right for a bedtime reading with 9 short poems and 23 colorful and engaging illustrations featuring little ones and their favorite teddy bears and toys. Some pretty stars and moons are sprinkled throughout to add a touch of magic. It is short and sweet and many of the illustrations are full page so it will certainly hold the interest of little ones. It would make a lovely new baby gift.

"Catch My Hug" is a collection of stories and letters from the families, facilities and sponsoring organizations involved in Spinoza's "buddy bear project". Spinoza, the bear who speaks from the heart, is a large teddy bear with a cassette player inside. The unique stories and songs on his tapes provide the listener with words of encouragement, comfort and friendship. The stories in this book are not just about how a teddy bear touched people's lives - these stories demonstrate the power of people helping other people. "Catch My Hug" was created in honor of the many dedicated people who have changed people's lives through their caring efforts, and to all the brave children who inspire us everyday.

                          Book Description

"It all started one day, when he (Pajama Joe) happened to mention that sometimes he felt a bit lonely and would like friends his size to talk to." That was the day that Paul Adshead began to add more teddy bears to his "Hug". In case you haven't heard, "A collection of teddy bears is called a Hug...". Paul's Hug is filled with the most delightful teddy bears, each with its own special personality and history.

Pajama Joe was the first. He and Paul are kindred spirits. Margaret was sent from Ireland, a victim of false accusation in a disappearing cream bun scandal. Shilling is over seventy years old, rejected in a toy shop because he was not like the others. Then there's Uncle Morris who claims that he is the original "Teddy's Bear", named after President Theodore Roosevelt himself!

There are many more fascinating teddy bears in Paul's Hug. Each double-page features the story of the bear on the left and a beautiful portrait of the treasured teddy bear in question on the right. The stories are masterfully retold by Paul just as the bears told them to him. Each portrait is a gem to melt hearts from Paul's prolific palette. This is a keeper. Its pages will be turned and turned. Its art work will be savored for generations to come.

When asked to write a brief autobiographical account of how I came to be so interested in art, music and wildlife, I found myself faced with a problem. Most people would be able to list their achievements or qualifications, and mention how and where they had trained. I can no none of this, having no training or qualifications at all. On reflection, it seems that various circumstances and events during my childhood have shaped my life.

When I was young, my father would tell me a different story every night, improvised on any subject I chose. Perhaps this has led to my own fondness of telling stories. So here is another story - not an imaginary story this time, but a true one...

One of my earliest childhood memories is of being ill in bed with the measles. To keep me amused, my mother would sit on the bed and draw pictures for me to colour. I can still recall the picture on one particular day. A weasell sat on a log, surrounded by mounts of autumn leaves and conkers. Proud of the finished result, mother asked if there was anything else I would like as a special present to cheer me up. Without a moments hesitation, I replied, "A tortoise".

Although the request was not quite what she had expected, my very first pet arrived later that afternoon and was given the name of Fred! I remember being fascinated by his every movement, especially his trick of being able to withdraw into his shell. He was later joined by a rabbit, and the three of us would go on picnics together. They were happy, carefree days, but they came to a sudden end when it was time to start school.

Up till that time I had spent very little time with other children; always preferring my own company and that of various little creature I adopted. Only a few days after starting school, something happened that has probably affected me ever since. During my walk home, which took me down a long, narrow lane, an older schoolboy chased after me brandishing a knife, shouting that he was going to kill me. Even now I can hear the pounding of his footsteps behind me as I raced towards home. I had no desire to ever return to school again, but of course I had no choice. In an attempt to rectify matters, the headmaster paraded me through every classroom until I found the culprit. But instead of solving the problem, this only served to isolate me further from all the other children. From hen on I was a marked person, often I would arrive in the morning to find my books torn and my desk upside-down. Just like the tortoise, I began to withdraw into my shell. More and more I came to appreciate any time I could spend alone.

At six and a half years old, I acquired my first pair of walking boots. They had animal footprints on the soles, and each one had a tiny pocket in the heel to hide a sixpense, in case of emergency. So, suitably shod, with my precious binoculars around my neck, and sketchpad and pencil in my pocket, I would spend many happy hours on nature rambles with my Uncle and Aunt.

I remember walking to "secret places" in the wood to feed the squirrels. I had a pocket full of peanuts, and the long tailed tits, nuthatches and chaffinches would fly down to my hand to take them.

Another day in the forest we fed all our sandwiches to a herd of fallow deer. Then later we were so hungry we ate the wild black cherries growing along the lane.

Returning home I would spend hours making detailed drawings of the creature s I had seen. More often than not, 'dressing them up' in imaginary outfits of clothing. More an more I would daydream in a fantasy world of little creatures to escape the reality of an unhappy school life.

From early on I had earned the nickname 'Birdboy', because of being more familiar with the names of feathered friends than my so-called school friends. My school report that year proved true indeed. It said 'Paul's artwork is very promising, but he finds it difficult to make friends."
As I grew older, my collection of pets gradually increased. Several rabbits, guinea pigs, mice, gerbils, a budgerigar, and a duck, along with any orphaned or injured wild birds I happened to find.
About this time, I began to take an interest in music, and started piano lessons. I took to it immediately, and a few months after beginning to learn, I composed my first piece of music 'Waltz in F'.

It was very interesting for me to find something that could give me so much pleasure. My mind became filled with music, and nothing satisfied me more than the composition of a new etude or nocturn. Every single afternoon I would rush home from school, and sit straight down at the piano not even pausing to remove my coat. Then without stopping I would play for an hour or more until all thoughts of school had left me and I felt relaxed once more.

The following five years in senior school were no happier. I lived for the time when I would be able to leave. Finally I opted to leave six months early, taking only my final exams in Art an English. Although I took both of these exams my papers were somehow lost. I always thought that I was a ploy to force me to stay on at school longer, but my mind was made up. I left school without any regrets, but also without any qualifications what so ever.

My first job was in a gift shop. This gradually got me used to being with other people and began to undo some of the ill effects of years earlier. My bird collection increased further with the addition of several pairs of ducks, some rare breeds of poultry, peacocks and my most loyal companion of all - Toby, a yorkshire terrier. His delightful personality and gentleness with all the other creatures inspired me to begin writing short stories and verses to accompany the pictures I still painted of them all.

So a few years later when the shop closed down, I decided not to seek reemployment immediately,
but to take writing and illustrating more seriously and seek publication.
But that is quite another story..........

I bought this book when a fabric store in MD near me was closing; not my first choice at the time. Once I found myself experimenting with more challenging blocks, I finally opened it; within minutes it had the solutions to the angles and slices I had repeatedly made mistakes on. And I wondered why I hadn't read it sooner.

                                      Book Description

To find an inner equilibrium, we need to live close to nature. Our homes can recreate the natural environments that liberate us. Natural, untouched, raw, wholesome interiors feed our craving, nurturing and nourishing the spirit. Artificial interiors, on the other hand, are the fast food of modern home life, providing a transient solution that leaves us hungry for more. Pure, untouched, and stylish, this is the blueprint for natural decorating.

Natural Interiors explores the ever-increasing range of natural products and methods, from the raw materials to how to integrate them into your home without losing comfort, efficiency or functionality. It explains the advantages of eco-friendly options over the mass-produced, the artificial and the processed, and delights in their unique and nurturing qualities. Natural materials are longer lasting, more beautiful and unique, healthier for us physically and emotionally, and better for the planet than artificial materials.

Natural Interiors looks at the elements of nature that we can bring into our homes-water, color and light. Then discussed are raw materials, such as wood and stone, and how to choose walls, floors, furniture and lighting, concluding with a selection on room design and how to coordinate to bring a balanced whole to any home. By creating natural and inviting spaces, Natural Interiors evokes a style of living that is gentle, nurturing, aesthetic, practical and balanced.

                                            Book Description

What we read here is a sifting of fact and imagination from what Harry Smith has told us about his boyhood in the Pacific Northwest. Harry Smith's contributions in music and film are evident with his Anthology of American Folk Music and inspired abstract films, but what we find here is the beginning seeds of this eccentric genius. There are few traces left of the young Smith and Darrin Daniel has made some sense of those years 1928 through 1949—from Harry claiming to be fathered by Aleister Crowley, to documenting what little is known of his parents and grandparents—to his earliest anthropological recordings, donated with artifacts and notebooks to the University of Washington.

Out of all the speculation, mythology and plain curiosity, the packet named Harry Everett Smith begins to reveal itself.

This is the third book on Smith since his 1991 death. Anyone curious to know the magus Harry Smith will want this book on their shelf.
