A good beach read!.......2004-07-13
I did enjoy this book. I loved how fast paced it was. However it didn't WOW me and that is my reason for 4 stars. It was easy to follow along. I think what put me out so much is all the man bashing. I just think it was mundane after awhile. Don't read if you are feeling emotional though!
Touching Story of Friends.......2004-03-20
I read this book and loved it! This is a story about 4 friends and they stick together over a long friendship. This is something we all need in our lives whether we know it or not. When illness struck, they were there for each other, and when death struck, they stuck together. Great friendship story.
A Lovely Friendship Saga.......2004-02-25
All of these women will touch you in a special way when you begin reading this book. There is a mystery element that adds a twist that the reader does not expect and I was vastly entertained while reading this story. Sad, witty, inspirational, and endearing, THE GIRLFRIENDS CLUB is a must read for all women!
A "girlie/feel good" book.......2004-01-27
I thought this book was pretty good - I read it in 2 days. I was glad to get to the end when everyone came to the realization that they could indeed function without a man - a few of the ladies (gretchen, pam & marysue) made it seem like they thought so little of themselves that they went out with/married any kind of man, just to say they had a man - which is so totally OUT. Dixie is the only one who seemed really cool to me, mostly because she had come to grips with her husband divorcing her & moved on. But all in all, it was a pretty good read.
A good 'chick book'.......2003-08-30
I liked this, however, there were other books that i enjoyed much more, was a bit predictable, and not the most entertaining. a good light read, but nothing worth staying up all night reading...

Book Description
Sekeeta is the daughter of Pharaoh in ancient Egypt. Because she demonstrates psychic abilities, she is sent to the temple, where she is trained to recall past lives, remember her dreams, and much more. Upon the death of her father, she becomes a "winged Pharaoh"--both priestess and pharaoh--and leads her country with enlightenment. The most famous of Joan Grant's 7 "far memory" novels--stories based on her recollection of earlier lifetimes.

If you know you've had past lives in Egypt..........2007-01-04
Having had a past life regression soon before I read this novel, I approached it with a very keen and curious perspective. I felt this book might help me integrate some of my own memories from Egypt and my intuition was correct. This book helped me release and put into perspective some similar experiences had by some of the characters in my own memories.
Very good read for those who are interested in past life karma.
Dreaming like an Egyptian.......2006-06-11
Joan Grant's book Winged Pharaoh takes us into the possible reality of the First Dynasty and the dream training of a king's daughter who becomes co-ruler of Egypt. As she explains in a memoir (Far Memory), the book came to Joan through "far memory" of a possible past life.
The most fascinating element in Joan Grant's visionary narrative is the description of a dream school that operates within the temple of Anubis. At the age of twelve, Sekeeta becomes a full-time student at the dream school, taking up residence in the temple of Anubis. Every morning she records her dreams and takes the wax tablets to her dream teacher, a priest of Anubis. Some days she must also carry out assignments he gave her inside a dream.
Frequently, in her dream travels, she encounters people who have died and are confused about their condition. At this point we come fully alive to the intimate connection between dreaming and dying well, and the reason why Anubis is such an appropriate patron of dream travel. As every school child knows, Anubis is a guardian of the Otherworld, who watches over tombs and mummies and guides souls of the departed to the Hall of Osiris. As psychopomp, or guide of souls, he is also the patron of journeys beyond the body.
As Sekeeta's training in the dream school deepens, she takes on more and more work as a psychomp. One of the most movingly realized scenes in the book is one in which Sekeeta helps a grieving widow to enter the dreamspace and achieve a loving reunion with her deceased husband. This episode is a wonderful glimpse of what compassionate psychopomp work is all about. It seems entirely plausible to me that advanced spirits in ancient Egypt did it this way. I know that gifted dreamers are doing the work in very similar ways today, because many have shared comparable experiences with me during training in our contemporary dream school.
As entertainment, Winged Pharaoh is wonderful fun. But when you read it as an active dreamer, you'll find that it suggests a whole curriculum of study and practice.
A Life in Ancient Egypt.......2004-04-12
This is the life story of Sekeeta a daughter of Pharaoh in ancient Egypt, gifted because of her ability to remember her dreams and experience consciousness while dreaming. The book follows her childhood in the palace, her years in the temple preparing for initiation, her spiritual education and study of ancient legends. Later after the initiation she "marries" her brother and they become co-pharaohs ruling Kam. Many of Sekeeta's experiences as a ruler are described - holding audience and passing judgements, a sea journey to Minoa, the war with the Zuma.
First published in 1937 this is apparently an autobiographical account of one the author's previous lives, but even if you can't accept the idea of this as a past life recollection, at the very least it is a really great read for historical fiction fans. So frequently characters in ancient fiction seem to speak and function like twentieth century people with materialistic goals and romantic sentiment, but "Winged Pharaoh" has an authentic feel to it transporting the reader to another time and headspace.
Vivid Historical Novel.......2002-10-20
As a recreation of ancient Egypt, this feels authentic. The people are as wise, noble and spiritual as we'd like to believe the ancients were.
The novel is as much philosophy as story, and there is much to provoke thought. However, the book can be enjoyed whether you take it as past life memory or just an escape to another time.
Sekeeta is a princess born to a First Dynasty pharaoh. When the young girl shows a talent for clairvoyant dreams, she is sent to train as a Priestess of Anubis, the god of prophecy. Her temple teachers are wise, and train her to use her gifts to serve her country. When she is grown, she rules as co-Pharaoh with her brother Neyah.
As noted above, this book is philosophy in novel form. It is to our conventional idea of the novel as the Egyptian wall painting is our idea of painting. The traditional elements of conflict, action and strong character development aren't much in evidence here. That doesn't make it unreadable, just different.
The language is stylized but beautiful, with a certain biblical flavor, the imagery vivid and poetic. In the childhood part of Sekeeta's life, she is told child's stories with simple, sound lessons, like The Monkey Who Wanted to be a Man.
Also interesting are the meanings behind some hieroglyphic symbols; in Grant's view, the images were metaphors for spiritual concepts or lessons. The word "beloved," for example, was written as a plow to show that, as a plow makes the earth fertile, so love does likewise to the heart.
On the whole, this a book that I return to and enjoy.
Inspired.......2001-06-01
This is Joan Grant's great work. Even if she didn't say it was a "far memory" of a past life, it would be easy to imagine the story is true. She starts as a small girl and her speech is very simple. As she grows, so does the level of vocabulary and conversation, but imperceptibly. Also, this book is so real and yet magical, I wished I was in it! I read a chapter of the little girl section to my 6 year old niece who hated to go to bed and she made me read that same chapter over and over and over in the same sitting! It is sooo beautiful! I've read just a chapter to adults and they had to read the whole book. Make people get their own copy, though -- I've noticed they don't like to give it back!

Heaven's Gate is excellent........2004-04-15
"Morgana: Book #1: Heaven's Gate" is a wonderful tale, beautifully drawn and inked. I've never recommended a book on Amazon before, but this graphic novel caught my imagination and I want to spread the word. The plot is not easy to describe in a couple of sentences, so just trust me that you will enthralled by this epic.
My only complaint is that at this time (14 April 2004) only "Heaven's Gate (Book #1)" is available. Once you've read it, you'll want to read them all. So, if anyone from Humanoids Publishing reads this- Get busy and publish the rest of Morgana's adventures!
MORGANA IS A BEAUTIFUL FANTASY/SCI-FI NOVEL!.......2002-11-09
This was a great find. Now, I'm 41-years-old and don't read much of this type of stuff - but the cover art grabbed me and the storyline is awesome. The mix of beautiful artwork and colors, along with the great and different storyline draws you instantly in a fantasy world with sci-fi undertones - awesome!
I will definately be buying the next in this great start of a bright and different fantasy series.

Book Description
On the far planet Wing IV, a brilliant scientist creates the humanoids--sleek black androids programmed to serve humanity. But are they perfect servants--or perfect masters?Slowly the humanoids spread throughout the galaxy, threatening to stifle all human endeavor. Only a hidden group of rebels can stem the humanoid tide....if it's not already too late.Fist published in Astounding Science Fiction during the magazine's heyday, The Humanoids-sceince fiction grand master Jack Williamson's finest novel--has endured for fifty years as a classic on the theme of natural versus artificial life. Also included in this edition is the prelude novelette, "With Folded Hands," which was chosen for the Science Fiction Hall of Fame.
Customer Reviews:
mixed praise for an important work........2006-08-24
This book is composed of two stories. The first, called Folded Hands is nothing short of brilliant. Jack Williamson created a rather bizarre, almost tongue and cheek idea, that works well in this quick blast that had me laughing and feeling chilled all at the same time. Williamson didn't take himself too seriously but the short story had some terrific ideas. Unfortunately I cannot say the same for the novella. The second story, for me anyway, felt weighed down by far too much dramatic dialog and unrelenting techno babble that dragged the story down. The Humanoids idea -- that mankind must be protected from itself ,can't help but sound a bit silly in execution and in the second story, Williamson goes for the straight dramatic and it feels awkward. Granted there are some brilliant ideas but they don't play out because the author is too busy trying to explain this bizarre science that can defeat the humanoids. That in itself sounds like a parady but he plays it straight! When Asimov wrote robot stories he understood when not to take himself too seriously. On top of that, I found it a bit hard not to feel sorry for the Humanoids. They really are passionate and just completely naive about what they are doing and its consequences. I wish logic instead of mass destruction would have been formulated to deal with the issue. Oh well.
Two Classics.......2004-12-01
This book contains two classic SF works. The first is the novelette titled 'With Folded Hands...' published first in 1947 in 'Astounding Science Fiction'. The second story is the novel "The Humanoids", which was also published originally in 'Astounding Science Fiction' in 1948 (March - May) under the title '...And Searching Mind'. The two stories share the same nemesis, which are the robots known as The Humanoids.
The Humanoids' purpose is "To Serve and Obey, And Guard Men from Harm", which is really just a rewording of the first two laws of robotics that Asimov and Campbell create for Asimov's robot stories that first started to appear in 1940. However, this does not make these stories redundant, as Williamson's Humanoids take their purpose to the extreme, and go so far as to prevent men from doing anything that could potentially cause harm, which includes such activities as driving, or even reading in some cases.
In 'With Folded Hands...,' the hero is Mr. Underhill, who opposes the humanoids at first because they threaten his livelihood (he is an android salesman), but later because he can see the effect they have on people's lives. He works with the creator of the Humanoids, Mr. Sledge, who is desperately trying to put an end to his creation.
In 'The Humanoids,' the hero is Dr. Clay Forester, who is made aware of the Humanoid menace by a group of humans with various special abilities such as teleportation, clairvoyance, telekinesis, and telepathy. They refer to these types of abilities as "psychophysics". As the story proceeds, the reader becomes less and less sure who is right and who is wrong in the conflict. The Humanoids, though still a presence, are not the main foe for Dr. Forester. Instead he focuses on Frank Ironsmith, a former colleague who is helping the Humanoids, involved with Forester's wife Ruth, and is given much more freedom than other humans by the Humanoids. Although the Humanoids use some horrible methods of forcing people to be happy (e.g. drugs, surgery), they are not nearly as controlling as they were in `With Folded Hands....' One oddity between the two stories is that Williamson introduces a different creator of the Humanoids, whose name is Warren Mansfield.
These two stories are definitely worth reading for anyone interested in Science Fiction. `The Humanoids' rated 27th in 1952 for science fiction books, and tied for 18th in 1956 on the Astounding/Analog All-Time Polls. `With Folded Hands...' tied for 32nd in 1999 on the Locus All-Time Poll of novelettes.
VERY INTERESTING BOOK.......2004-10-08
SPOILERS!! BE WARNED
This book is so freaky and thats why its great. Its got a horror touch to it as those robots are pretty scary the way it does evil but acts like its doing perfectly righteous acts. One reviewer mentioned that the main character is not likable. I dont know what he's talking about because the main character is totally great, honorable, just, basically everything you want in a human being or a hero. The story is great because you can never guess whats going to happen next. It keeps changing. The ending at first seems pretty horrible, and I didnt realy like it but I think if it didnt end this way this book woudnt of made such an impact. Oh and this book is exactly like that one star trek episode from the original series called NOMAD where that machine tried to "steralize" everything one but killing it.
Really cool!.......2003-10-07
This book made me think. That's the first positive. It's also well-paced. That's the second positive. The ending took me by surprise and was totally acceptable. That's the third positive.
But the fourth positive is really what made me love this book... Some may laugh at me for writing this, but this author seems to have described "the force" in scientific terms waaaayy back in the forties. In fact, it's a better explanation than even Lucas' "Midichlorides" or whatever they were in 'Episode I'. I have to think that George Lucas read this book before writing "Star Wars".
Anyway... The author seems to have created fictitious sciences that actually make sense. I'm not a scientist, so that's probably why it worked for me. I almost felt like the answer to the universe was in this book... even though 2 of the 3 sciences don't really exist.
As for the ending, I though it was great. It was the only way the story would have made any sense. If the OPPOSITE of the ending had happened, the story would have been as pointless as most action movies. Contrary to another reviewer's dislike of the world at the end of the book, I thought it was actually a desirable place to be. I think that reviewer misunderstood what was goin on at the end.
I had to force myself to put the book down. It was that good. really quick, to the point, nothing to bog the story down. Just the events that needed to be there.
A very quick read. You have no reason not to try it.
Phenomenal premise marred by somewhat weak ending.......2001-11-11
THE HUMANOIDS is one of the unquestionable classics of the science fiction genre, and arguably the most important novel ever written about robots. The core idea of ultra sleek robots who arrive on a planet "to serve and protect" the planets inhabitants to the most logical extreme of that directive was brilliant and extraordinarily innovative when the book was published in the late 1940s. As such, absolutely no one even remotely interested in science fiction can afford not to read this great novel.
Unfortunately, aside from the core concept and several excellent characters, including the marvelously conceived humanoids themselves, I found a few elements in this story to be somewhat disagreeable. Others may not find them so, but I did, and they somewhat marred my enjoyment of the novel. First, the main character of the novel was, to me, was an unpleasant individual. Now, it is entirely correct that it is important to the novel's plot that he not be especially likable. Nonetheless, he was a somewhat unpleasant character, and spending time with him even on a fictional level was not as much fun as one might like. I also was unhappy with the way the romantic elements in the novel developed. They struck me as quite implausible. Finally, I very much did not like the ending of the novel. Unfortunately, I cannot here go into my reasons without giving away too much of the plot. Suffice it to say that I am not certain that I would want to live in the world that the novel apparently endorses in its ending.
I will add that one character is one of my favorites in all of sci-fi, the wonderfully eccentric, amazing enigmatic Underhill. Williamson does a great job in Underhill of producing a character who is simultaneously marvelously innocent and suspiciously sinister at the same time. After I finished the book, his character remained far more vivid in my memory than any of the others.
Book Description
In this book, D. James Kennedy takes on some of the most-asked questions regarding the validity of the Christian faith and provides factual, well-reasoned answers. In clear, unassuming language, Dr. Kennedy examines the reliability of the Bible, the nature of God, and Christian faith in the face of life's harsh realities. Skeptics Answered affirms the faith of Christians everywhere and is ideal for both personal and group study. In addition, it makes an excellent gift for any non-believer who, as a matter of intellectual integrity, is willing to consider the clear evidence for the Christian faith
Customer Reviews:
SKEPTICS ANSWERED: HANDLING TOUGH QUESTIONS ABOUT THE CHRISTIAN FAITH.......2007-01-19
The book arrived in the listed description. IT IS A GREAT BOOK.
Uninformed Apologetics.......2003-02-12
I read this book as part of a college bible study; as a Christian, I am somewhat dismayed that this sort of work is often the only association many people have with Christianity! This book is intended to convince people of the truth of the faith and the validity of the Bible; if you have any background in science, history, or religion, it will probably do neither.
As a paleontology student, I can honestly say that Kennedy's approach to evolution is incomplete at best. When the scientific evidence is overwhelmingly against a fundamentalist interpretation of the Bible, he resorts to a "straw man" tactic. For instance, the theory of natural selection says *nothing* about the ultimate origin of life, yet he continually states that it does.
Regardless of one's opinion on Christianity, some glaring problems are present in the text. For instance, Kennedy attributes the panspermia origins hypothesis to Francis Crick--the idea was actually originated in the work of a number of earlier scientists (although Crick did refine the hypothesis to "directed panspermia"). Additionally, Kennedy relies almost exclusively on secondary literature (typically other Christian apologetics books, which also frequently rely on the secondary literature, ad infinitum!). I wonder how many of Darwin's (and others') quotes were taken of context.
Another major problem is the total omission of recent work--most of the scientists, historians, and religious scholars quoted within the book have been dead at least 50 years.
Finally, I take major issue with the condescending tone of most of the book. Kennedy's continued references to "disarming," "defeating," and letting your "opponent" "hit the sand on his back," left a bad taste in my mouth. Religious disagreements are no reason for humiliation of another human being (and I would argue this method goes against the message of the Gospel!).
If you are looking for undebatable, factual information on Christianity, I cannot recommend this book. Most of the arguments contained within it are incomplete at best, and dead wrong at the very worst; attempting to use them in debate with an educated non-Christian would invariably be futile. Needless to say, I enjoyed reading it--I was kept very busy in tracking down errors and finding alternative interpretations!
Agnostic Reader.......2001-09-17
Okay, I spoke with a good chaplain for nearly 3 hours and he sent me this book. I am now looking for another to buy for a friend. It really is a useful book. It hasn't converted me to the faith (I am still a skeptic), but it has (fortunately or unfortunately?) brought to me irrefutable proof of the Bible's viability, of Jesus Christ's existance, and better understanding of the Christian view of God.
I may not have been converted, but it has definately strengthened any arguments I might have with Christians. It has also made it nearly impossible to argue this faith because, as the book will show the open-minded, there is paradoxic proof of God's existance. It is a difficult concept, but true.
Unfortunately, the author does have a few logic gaps and is somewhat condenscending. His manner of presentation, however, is excellent and the proof he details is irrefutable.
Just to remind the reader of this reveiw, I am still not a believer in God, but that is only due to my rebellion to the idea that he exists, not because there is no proof to his existance. Skeptic or Christian, I encourage you to read this book.
A good, basic faith-builder.......2000-06-27
I agree with the reader immediately below this review, in that Kennedy has a tendency towards being condescending. However, he is a friendly, easy-to-read writer who is both capable and humorous. This book is not the cream of the intellectual crop (although Kennedy probably is), but it is a fair introduction into apologetics.
I recommend it.
Peace,
Christinaphylus
A very good book for Christians who are faced with skeptics.......1998-11-01
The book answers many of the questions that most skeptics start with. It may not be a good book to give to a skeptic as it can be condescending towards some skeptics. A must for Christians who have trouble in debates with skeptics.

Great way to start our kayak trip!.......2005-09-20
I purchased this book prior to our first Family Kayak Camping trip. With 2 kids ages 5 and 6, my hubby and I wanted to make sure we were truly prepared. The book was pertinent and entertaining, and really helped our trip be a huge success. We are now looking toward to longer trips with really good food!
Great book for people tired of mylar bag food.......2004-03-13
When I first saw this book, I thought "you have to be kidding", but the author has the subject nailed down tight. The book is divided into sections based on the length of your trip and the types of food suitable for the duration. She has a clear understanding of nutritional issues. The techniques for food drying, blending and preparation prior to the trip are invaluable. This book has changed the way I travel on rivers and live out of my boat while doing so. Highly recommended for those interested in the subject.

Charming florals or cool abstract patterns? White-on-white or a splash of brilliant color? Just like clothes make the man, fabric makes the furniture. House Beautiful understands that, and so the editors are letting sofas, chairs, settees, ottomans, lampshades, and more put on a “fashion show.” As in the magazine feature, witness how furniture can be completely transformed using several different fabrics. The magazine’s experts explain exactly how the choice of color and pattern affects the furniture’s appearance. For example, stripes on a sofa highlight the couch’s shape and give it a contemporary flair, while a floral pattern de-emphasizes the form and adds traditional country charm. A range of styles are included. Details on fabric content, technical terms, decorating pitfalls, and upholstering tips make this the ideal reference.

What a great book!.......2000-09-04
Sasso's Publishing Timeline 2000 is a remarkably comprehensive look at the graphic arts industry. I've been in publishing for over 20 years and was amazed at the breadth of information included in this book. There are thousands of publishing milestones presented in chronological order--not to mention the beautiful full-color artwork. In addition, the CD-ROM version is a great way to search for a specific glossary term or biography you're looking for. I keep a hardcopy of Publishing Timeline 2000 on my coffee table, a softcover copy in my office, and the CD-ROM right next to my computer! I highly recommend this book, whether you're in the graphic arts/publishing industry or you're simply interested in the history of man's pursuit of written communication.

FREE SHIPPING! So many goodies, really makes you think!.......2002-11-28
This is a really great book (which includes Kreskin's accurate terrorism predictions, made before 9/11)! It is also available right through Kreskin's website at [www address] which currently offers FREE Shipping (to domestic USA) and also offers many cool historical notes and tid-bits about the one and only... Amazing Kreskin!
Not Much To It.......2001-12-17
As a fan of Kreskin, I expected to be reading some solid material that would really get my mind going. It appears Kreskin sent some letters out and quickly reprinted what ever reply he could get just to get something on the market to sell. -- L. Betz
Amazing Kreskin's Amazing Book.......2001-11-18
The premise of this book was that Kreskin, the world's most famous mentalist, would ask famous people from all walks of life to give their impression of what the next thousand years would be like. But, this book is worth the price just for Kreskin's comments about where he feels we will be in the near future and the next centuries! You will be amazed at how much of what is going on now in the world has been fortold in this volume. In addition to what the "Nostradamus of the 21st Century" has to say you can also read what Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas, Tom Hanks, Roger Ebert, Buzz Aldren and so many others have to say to Kreskin about the future. I heartily recommend this book.
