Great first novel!.......2005-11-05

If you like Nicholas Sparks' or Jan Karon's stories, you will enjoy this one! In fact, I hope that Bullock makes this a series in the style of Karon's Mitford Series. The plot and subplots move along well with plenty of vivid descriptions and local color. There are a couple of surprises at the end: one solves a puzzle and the other makes you want to know more. I hope there will be a sequel!

Totally ruined the series for me.......2006-08-22

There is a critical plot point in the book where an invading fleet is sailing up a river and the sunrunners attempt to set fire to their fire resistant sails and fail.

That was so bogus.

In the first Sunrunner novels, Rawn shows one of the early sunrunner rings deals with winds and has a gripping scene with a sunrunner creating a tornado. It was such a good scene, I never forgot it.

The sunrunners could have wrecked the fleet with tornados and winds, but if that happened, the entire story would end and all the politics would be for nothing. This plothole is so big it ruined the series for me, and I threw the book against the wall in disgust.

I recommend you give this book a pass.

Artistic!!.......2005-05-16

This book continued the dragon star series with a strong flourish. These characters never stop amazing me. I don't care who you are but you will connect in one way or another with one of these characters.
If you have had the pleasure of reading any of the books by Martin, J.V. Jones, Douglas, and Tolkien you will find yourself at home reading this series.

A great second book in the Dragon Star series.......2002-08-12

Rawn does it again with the second book in her Dragon Star series. The conflict between Pol and Aurdy is more drawn out. Pol is having to discover how he can run what is left of his army to final defeat over his enemy. A great book.

All Time Favorite.......2001-08-06

I read this series over and over. The characters are so richly developed, it's like revisiting old friends. This was the first series I read as a young adult. I am ruined! I read every fantasy series I can find, and though many are good, I can't find one that is better.

Children at war.......2000-01-12

A boy 7 years old left to rule a princedom. And the mother who mourns not only the death of a husband, a brother, and all her brothers family. Sits in a chair and weeps at the loss of childhood. At the end of this book so many children are fighting. from 7 - 11 years old. That I was left thinking to my self how odd. Then it occurred to me. Almost all the men are dead.

This is one of the most gripping novels I have ever read. Book 2 The Dragon Token, puts the reader right in the middle of the war with the Vellant'im and their High Warlord. And the Azhrei and the people of the Kingdoms.

War is hell as someone once said. And Melanie Rawn makes sure you understand exactly what that means. By allowing you to invest yourself into a character only to have that character die to the ravages of war.

This is unlike any book I have ever read. I found my self throwing the book across the room on more then one occasion. No book has ever griped me so tightly or effected me so deeply.

A lot of fun for the SciFi fan.......2001-03-05

The tek books actually surprised me - they're very entertaining. I expected a hack job, but they move very quickly and have non-stop action. No paragraph is longer than 3 sentences, so they're great to read after a long day to unwind before bed. Pure, futuristic fantasy that manages to keep you interested and moving right along. These books are sprinkled with Tek-isms and future slang that can make you chuckle to yourself. Shatner obviously had a lot of fun writing this series. I, for one, was pleasantly impressed with our beloved Captain Kirk.

When I read the original "Tekwar" a seemingly impossibly long time ago, I was instantly drawn in to the high tech world that my boyhood hero had created. The hardware was sleek, the action was merciless, and the end of each page dared you not to turn to the next. Almost ten years later, not much has changed for Jake Cardigan and company. Jake's still the tough, angst ridden private eye with a heart of gold. Gomez is still a wise cracking charmer, and both manage to get themselves in ridiculous amounts of trouble in the course of the story, only to tap dance their way out of it by the end, which almost always falls around 250 pages. Like the rest, Teknet's story is told with rare style and wit, but the Tek "cast" doesn't ever really change. But, with a "Tek" book, you're not looking for a character study, just a fast paced thrill ride. Teknet delivers on that.The main problem is that this, being the last of a series of books that has soaked up an entire decade, gives no real sense of closure to the series. At the end, things are pretty much the way they started, and the boys still seem poised to take Bascm's next call. A more proper send off would have been more satisfying.

This book truly touched me! I'm a real softy when it comes to animals, but until I read this book I had not thought of them as "teachers".

A professional animal trainer, Diana L. Guerrero shares how she has learned as much from the animals as they have learned from her. In many ways, animals are far more noble than humans, and Guerrero illustrates this point time and again.

Diana Guerror brings us a lovely introduction to many of the ways in which animals can heighten our awareness of our own caring, moral, healing and spiritual qualities. She illustrates these through specific animal examples:

Loyalty - dogs
Playfulness - otters
Power - bears
Heart - lions
Survival - wolves
Vision - eagles
Mind - dolphins
Wisdom - owls

This book is a good invitation to reflections on how we can be more mindful of many of these qualities in our lives, and how we can extend our investments in healing - ourselves and others - beyond our own species. A beautifully written glimpse into the psyche of both humans and animals. As a writer I enjoyed Ms Guerrero's descriptions of her personal interactions with both tame and wild animals and felt very much a part of her adventures. Prior to reading Diana's book I thought I knew my buddy, a 100lb Akita, very well. Now I not only notice my dog's subtle clues but have a greater understanding of their meaning. This is a "must read" for all lovers of the spiritual messages of nature.

Learn From the Animals..........2004-01-17

Don't think that Diana Guerrero advocates a new spiritual fad in advocating that we humans emulate animals. Aesop knew you can't be a human in dog's clothing. Guerrero asks us to stop, turn off the computer, TV, cell phone, and most of all our mental noise, and get attuned to the fundamentals through our animal teachers. She strikes the right balance between addressing humans' shortcomings and addressing the positive and negative qualities of animals. Authoritative, with intelligent discourse on nature, zoology, animal and human behavior, and religious teachings, this book is a great addition to your library as you search for higher meaning.

Diana's book is a gift to all of us who are not as animal savvy as we should be. This book came to me just as I aquired a new little kitten. We're always on the lookout for great ideas for our garden. We have high standards and live in an executive neighborhood, so we look for quality and distinctive projects. This book has great ideas with well drawn plans and instructions.

We built a gothic trellise this weekend. There's not another like it in town. It looks great. There is some great architecture in here! A lot of nice rooms, mostly contemporary/modern. Just great photos though, certainly not intended to be a how-to book.
