This is a great book, despite the illiterate review below. I've never looked for a drink at home to make that I couldn't find in this book -- and the other drink/recipe "bibles" leave out the interesting information on the various spirits and histories. It's a staple on my cookbook shelves where more than a few "idiot's" or "dummies" book sit next to the French Laundry Cookbook.

"The Complete Idiot's Guide to Mixing Drinks" is a wonderful book, filled with anecdotes, tips, and histories of spirits. It takes a basic, straightfoward approach to bartending that is easy to understand and use. The book is very thorough, and is best used in conjunction with a simple recipe book. It is NOT simply a book of recipes, however. I find it to be far superior to similar books (i.e. "Bartending for Dummies.")

This is an excellent book for the history of style, proportions, and ergonomics. It is especially useful for the cabinetmaker who is custom designing furniture. The golden section (golden rectangle) is covered in the most precise detail I have ever seen. The tables and charts are extremely helpful in the design stage of any project. If you design furniture, you'll definitely want this book in your library.

An excellent book which has earned a spot over my drawing table. Superbly covers form/function, visualization, standardized (ergo) vs. personalized design, and construction principles. Covers drawing, drafting and CAD well. Includes a brief history of furniture.

The math is suited for the drawing table rather than the shop, as you should expect for a design book. The hows and whys of design principles are explored, some not as conclusively as I'd like.

The book is well illustrated with many relavent line drawings, charts, and graphs. It is nicely laid out, easy to read, and pleasing to look at.

Mr.Robinson has addressed many issues a beginning translator needs to know.He offers excellent advice and resources.He also explores related issues such as ethical issues.Some chapters I feel are superfluous thus preventing it from receiving a five-star rating.This is a much needed book for starting a career as a translator.Too many books are about the process of translation and not on the process of the business of translation.

This work is out of print and hard to find, but it is a classic. It deals with the method of translation of texts from Latin into the vernacular during the time of the Middle Ages. It covers aspects of what distinguished the medieval translators from those in the renaissance and the later romantics. From allegory to extreme literalism this book covers all methods. A classic work for those interested in vernacular translations.

They typify, according to Gavronsky, some of the main currents of a poetics in the making, a poetics little known in the United States.
