Dirty and dangerous.......2001-08-31
Iain Sinclair knows the mythical paths of London like no-one else. In poetic often painfully intense prose, he conjures up the half-dead spirits that stalk the streets of this seedy town. The landscape is dominated by dodgy second-hand book dealers skulking in the shadows obsessed by the Ripper murders, and by the vicious presence of Jack himself, the embodiement of powerful evil forces embedded in the fabric of the city. If you only ever read one novel about Jack the Ripper, or never wanted to read one, White Chappell, Scarlet Tracings is a must. A warning though: it is not for the faint-hearted.

Book Description
Big as a boulder and strong as an ox, he's Concrete, seven-feet plus of stony celebrity. That he's a government-created cyborg is the cover story, but in truth he's the mind of one Ronald Lithgow trapped inside a rocky shell of alien origin. Possessing of powers allowing him to scale the highest mountain unaided or peel back the roof of a car like a pull tab, he is yet denied the simple human pleasures of fragile flesh. The return of Paul Chadwick's award-winning Concrete has ushered in a resurgence of interest in the acclaimed series that Harlan Ellison called ". . . [P]robably the best comic being published today by anyone, anywhere."
Customer Reviews:
As strong as the first volume.......2007-08-01
One of the best graphic series I've ever read, if not the best -- beautifully and imaginatively drawn, with deep, moving stories that contain most every characteristic people look for in storytelling (intellect, humor, pathos, adventure, sorrow, joy, awe, sex, movie parodies, and a three-legged dog). What would your life become if you were suddenly transformed into a 1,200-pound hunk of ugly, indestructible rock? Paul Chadwick answers that question from most every conceivable direction, often with unexpected, hilarious, exciting, and very touching results. The series hasn't lagged at all in quality so far -- this second volume is, overall, just as good as the first. And the way the stories are being collected is great -- chronology is preserved while at the same time presenting relevant side stories that may have originally appeared in entirely different times/places.
New Alternatives w/ substance.......2007-01-04
Paul Chadwick's cult series "Concrete" atlast sees a new series of tpb's from Darkhorse collecting a plethora of rare stories. These are a perfect introduction to anyone unfamiliar to Concrete's universe. These stories are very grounded to our world & really show's the human character in an imperfect world. There's no super heroes, no mutants, nor even any "in your face eye popping" action. Concrete is really going away from the herd mentality. It's different & rich. It's all together another world. Highly recomended if you like comics like Flight, Negative Burn, Flaming Carrot, Ninja Turtles, The Witching Hour, A Tale of One Bad Rat, etc.

Book Description
The Middle East conflict reaches the point of no return . . .
STONY MAN
The anti-terrorist organization known as Stony Man has pulled off impossible missions time and again. Each victory is snatched against insurmountable odds by the finest ground force in the world, backed by cyber warriors for whom no computer system -- be it the nation's most capable spy satellites or a rogue government's secret files -- is impenetrable. Now, as the Middle East is ready to go up in flames, Stony Man is facing a conflagration of genocidal proportions . . .
ROOTS OF WAR
As the violence in the Holy Land reaches critical mass, the Arab world readies to involve itself militarily in the conflict between Israel and the Palestinians. Only Stony Man and the Oval Office understand the true horror behind the bloodshed: a decades-old conspiracy engineered by rogue Mossad agents, a plan involving highly trained, well-equipped, well-funded moles, planted in every Arab nation, now activated for the final act -- nuking the Middle East into oblivion.
Book Description
Imagine a hot dog without mustard or relish or Thanksgiving turkey without stuffing or cranberry sauce. Side dishes bring color, taste, and variety to a meal; without them, our meals would be dreary affairs, indeed. In On the Side: More Than 100 Recipes for the Sides, Salads, and Condiments That Make the Meal, celebrated writer Jessica B. Harris provides mouthwatering recipes for salads and slaws, pickles, salsas, chutneys, relishes, and savory sauces that will liven up any plate. From delicate condiments to hearty side dishes, from mild to piquant, all-American or distinctly exotic, there are accompaniments to suit every meal and every palate.
All it takes is one side to transform a dish into a meal. Recipes such as classic Cole Slaw, North African Olive and Lemon Salad, and Jamaican Cucumber Salad are a welcome break from plain garden salads. Easy English Pickles, Tomato Relish, Cherry Ketchup, and Pineapple-Rum Mustard redefine the flavors of American favorites and will make the ordinary hamburger come to life. Even salsas get a new twist in On the Side: Pomegranate Salsa, Passionfruit-Peach Salsa, and Roast Corn Salsa are a few variations to try with your quesadillas or grilled meats and fish. Also featured are substantial vegetable sides that offer a taste for every season: Artichokes with Lemon Garlic Sauce and Grilled Asparagus with Shaved Parmesan for the spring; Corn on the Cob with Herbed Pimentón Butter and Ratatouille for the summer; Braised Celery Root and Leeks with Lemon Butter for fall; and Three-Root Gratin and Baked Turnips with Sweet Potatoes, Apples, and Dried Cranberries in the winter. Year-round delicacies include Carrots with Orange Juice and Ginger and Artery Cloggers -- mashed potatoes with roasted garlic, bacon, and cream.
In addition to the recipes gathered from family, friends, and travel, Harris informs, educates, and entertains us with essays about the ingredients throughout, blending a dash of history and culture into the mix.

Book Description
A superbly comprehensive book invaluable for everyone interested in making, and performing with, puppets. First published under the title àIThe Complete Book of Puppetry, it rapidly became established as one of the most important books available on the subject. This new edition has been totally revised, updated and considerably expanded; it contains a wealth of new information and ideas, and extra chapters on a much neglected aspect of puppet theatre-performance. For the beginner, the book presents all the information necessary to progress to a high standard of puppet artistry; teachers will find it an excellent resource book for all educational levels; the more advanced puppeteer will be particularly attracted by the new techniques described, the excellent selection of photographs and the special emphasis on performance.àR

Sheila!.......2006-06-17
Darling, delightful, all those lovely words describe this true girly girly fun activity. The little stores and shops are filled with actual hands on items. It's just cute, cute. It's so English and European like. I'm holding on to mine. It's too lovely to part with.
Great fun with lots to play with and do!.......1998-09-15
My daughter just loves this "book". It has alot of pieces so there is more to play with and is very detailed. I haven't been able to find any other paper doll books that even come close to this.

Book Description
Learning to share love
Things at Jennalee's house are just plain crazy, which is why she loves her predictable days helping Uncle Beau (who isn't really her uncle) at his general store. But then Rupert Goody shows up, claiming to be Uncle Beau's son. Jennalee can't believe it, because Rupert is black and Uncle Beau is white. But Uncle Beau tells her it is true and incorporates Rupert into his life, ruining Jennalee's routine.
Although Rupert is slow, he is kind-hearted and tries hard to please. When more unforeseen events -- this time frightening ones -- further interrupt life at the store, Jennalee comes to see that Rupert Goody, odd though he may be, is certainly not the worst unexpected thing that could come along, and that he belongs with Uncle Beau as much as she does. With a vividly depicted setting, emotional truth, and a distinctly Southern voice, Barbara O'Connor shows that there is love enough to go around.
Customer Reviews:
Good, But Not The Best .......2007-02-01
It is a good book overall, but at the begining, they say hell to much.
They also say that the mother slaps her sons.My daughter enjoied this book, but she ran over to me alot pointing out things that are wrong to put in a kids book.
Award Winning Book!!!.......2003-03-19
Me and Rupert Goody is the second chapter book to be recognized by The Dolly Gray Children's Literature Award for quality literature depicting characters with mental retardation or developmental disabilities. This book follows Jennalee through her meeting, jealousy of, and finally acceptance of Rupert Goody a man with a developmental disability. Me and Rupert Gooody is a well written book that entertains as well as teaches and is also a great read.
What a read.......2001-03-25
I read (me and Rupert Goody) and i liked the book. The book is ment for kids in 4-8 grade. The book relates to how stores are runed, how romance occurs, and how you cant take anything for granted.
Stirring.......2000-02-10
This quality children's novel seems vaguely reminiscent of "Missing May" by Cynthia Rylant, or perhaps "Belle Prater's Boy" by Ruth White. Nevertheless, it finds its own niche, and with surprisingly simple language and short text, manages to offer a genuinely emotional experience.
A new children's novelist with lots of wisdom........1999-10-28
A story that's touching and true to life, laced with Southern expressions that are a delight to the ear and the mind. Jennalee's real family is her Uncle Beau, who runs a general store and welcomes her to it as a refuge from her chaotic family. When she must suddenly share Uncle Beau with the son he didn't know he had, all of them have a lot of adjusting to do. What I admire most about this book, besides its language, is the care O'Connor uses in her portrait of Uncle Beau--especially her description of his remarkable pilgrimage to find and thank all the strangers who helped in the raising of his son.

Customer Reviews:
Excellent sleights, but sometimes unclear.......2007-08-22
This book is designed to teach the reader how to perform a wide variety of basic sleight-of-hand card tricks. The sleights themselves are classics; I think that knowing basic sleight of hand is fundamental for performing really impressive card magic, and this book contains all of the groundwork you will need. The book includes information on the overhand shuffle, the riffle shuffle, the glimpse, the palm, the double lift, the pass, and much more.
The explanations of the sleights are quite detailed. This allows the reader to pick up fine points and refine the techniques.
That said, I think this book has some important deficiencies. (1) Many of the moves are not illustrated at all. It's very difficult to learn some sleight of hand moves with just a verbal description. More pictures would be tremendously helpful. (2) While the book contains many great tricks, especially towards the end, it also includes a number of dull ones. I personally hate any card trick that involves spelling (i.e., you count cards out as you spell some word, and the last card counted out is the chosen one), and this book includes plenty of those. Still, if you select tricks carefully from the book, you will end up with some astonishing routines.
One warning, though: sleight-of-hand magic requires a LOT of practice. If you're interested in picking up a new magic trick in five minutes, this is not the book for you! If, however, you would like to learn really deceptive card tricks - tricks that the average spectator will really be stunned by - and you are willing to devote time to daily practice, then this book is a fine option.
Surprised to find this got only 4.5 stars.......2007-03-30
This is a truly wonderful book. I can't think of a better one for Card magic. It explains the different sleights, and has excellent routines to use them. It does assume one has a basic understanding of Card magic, so I suppose someone starting out who has no background could find it frustrating. It's not the best book for a rank beginner, but for someone who has some knowledge of the basics, I think it's terrific.
Old but not outdated.......2007-02-02
This is the best book to start in card magic. Small, easy to follow, full of information. After you read this book, you will be able to understand the description of most tricks to learn, and also, you will surprise yourself figuring out tricks just to look at someone performing it. If you want to be a professional magician (not my case at all) you'll have to read a lot more, but, this book will be always a good reference.
I recommend after finishing reading RRTCM, move to Expert Card Technique written by the same authors.
Card handling is not easy...........2007-01-10
This book is great for learning different card handling and shuffling techniques, however it can be a little tuff to follow sometimes. If you dont already have a basic understanding of how to handle cards you might want to start with a video first. It's usually a bit easier to learn when you can actually see whats going on. A side from all that, this is a really good book.
RRTCM.......2006-09-30
The book itself is excellent, though, I saw a review that was a bit mistaken. It said to get the DVD set instead... which is partially incorrect. If you're truly interested in learning and perfecting, get _both_. The DVD set corrects some of the mistakes in the book, as well as offers different, more effective methods of some of the tricks.
The book is surely one of the classics in magic, and I'll have mine until the day I die. It's _well_ worth the purchase... and you might consider getting the 5-disc DVD with it. (Not all tricks in the book are covered on the DVD).
Book Description
Scores of methods—previously known only to card experts—include passes, palming, false shuffles, false cuts, changes, crimps, jogs, reverses, rear palms and more. Altogether, 341 sleights and tricks. 318 illustrations show exact position of fingers and hands.
Customer Reviews:
close to indispensible.......2007-10-11
Won't appeal to the DVD generation of magicians.
It is densely written in the style of times gone by.
If you can get past this (i.e can read, and can interpret instructions that are written, instead of being spoonfed)you will have all the moves you could ever need.
Excellent book, however..........2007-05-06
This is a great book loaded with great material, however some of the material is false. For instance, the Faro Shuffle section is all entirely wrong. It is thought by some that this was done on purpose, and if so it is entirely unethical of the authors. Regardless, this book has a plethora of fantastic material, and I highly recommend it.
Second book to read.......2007-02-02
I consider this book the next step after reading the great Royal Road to Card Magic. I did not like some tricks, but, the really important part of the book is, as it is stated in the title, is the technique showed. Recommended.
318 Illustrations, averaging 1 illustration per page.......2004-12-04
I am not sure who this book is written by.
It's an encyclopedia, of card handling.
There is no connection from one chapter to the next and unless you are an english major, you will simply be very very frustrated trying to understand what to do and how.
This book is not for beginner but rather someone who has a very good grasp of handling cards and would like to know more than he already knows.
This book is like an english dictionary, you being a foreigner who knows half a dozen words. You'll find yourself trying to decrypt half the instructions. Do you have the time and patience for it? I sure didn't. You'll find this to be mysterious text that might become clear to you some day, unless you already know how to do half the material in it to begin with.
Essential Reading for the Cardician.......2002-06-01
This book is comprehensive in scope-it covers about all of the basic techniques the card worker needs to know. It goes far beyond this, however. All techniques taught are described in *excruciating* detail so as to leave nothing to the imagination. It also includes ongoing words of advice on and entire chapters devoted to the _real_ secrets of magic: misdirection and presentation. As if all this were not MORE than sufficient to recommend the book, it's written in a very witty, eloquent, and entertaining style that makes it a joy to simply read. But wait! There's more! Please find enclosed numerous card effects worthy of the most discriminating audiences at less than the cost of your favorite magic dealer's Trick O' the Day. With regard to my own experience I've read this book near to tatters and have annotated nearly every other page-I got my money's worth and so will you.
Average customer rating:
- Great tricks for those willing to practice
- A great book, unfortunately quite dated.
- This is the best book of the century!!!!?????
- Excellent book! Might consider a revision...
- Nobody will play cards with you again after this!

Customer Reviews:
Great tricks for those willing to practice.......2003-01-10
This book is a wonderful resource for those wanting to improve their sleight of hand, and contains over 165 card tricks and stunts. While the book starts with the basics, understand that the basics can be very challenging to master! Many of the tricks will require serious practice to make them polished enough to perform. The text of this book can be somewhat dense, and require a few readings to get the gist of what is being said. And while there are some difficult tricks to perform, there are a number of things the absolute beginner can pick up rather quickly.
A great book, unfortunately quite dated........2001-09-13
This is a great book. A lot of the things in this book have inspired a lot of ideas and variations. However, this book suffers from a major flaw: many of the techniques in this book are out of date, and many of the tricks would not be as powerful for today's audiences.
This is the best book of the century!!!!?????.......1999-06-15
This is an excellent book, which I waited for for two and a half weeks, it came to me and I was excited, it turned out to be quite a wonderful suprise. The appearing card trick is quite suprising, but difficult to comprehend what he is getting at. no dissapearing card tricks either, other than that, he has some excellent one handed shuffles and other great tricks. thank you
Excellent book! Might consider a revision..........1998-12-23
This is an excellent collection of card sleights and a few tricks. My only complaint is that some of its methods require every ounce of your attention to comprehend them. Not real clear in some areas but other than that it is excellent!
Nobody will play cards with you again after this!.......1997-08-28
This book remains a classic for obvious reason. In it, you learn how to make cards appear and disappear from your empty hand, how to make some of the most beautiful card fans ever conceived, and how to manipulate cards in ways most folks would never imagine. There are also several tricks in this book that use the manipulation principles involved. This book is for die-hard cardicians, but those interested in fooling their friends may find something here also

Serious tricks for the serious magician.......2003-01-10
This is another great book by Jean Hugard densely packed with card tricks and other sleights - over 120 in all. Some things to consider: (1) these are not simple tricks, and will require significant practice to master (i.e., they are not self-working card tricks); (2) the text is sometimes difficult to follow and may require multiple readings. Otherwise, this is a very valuable resource for the serious card manipulator.
The Best Card Trick Book Ever!.......2002-07-15
I reccomend this book for anybody who even has a "sleight" interest in card tricks. It's clever tricks and invisible sleights will allow you to amaze anybody, including other magicians. This excellent book brought me from a cub scout magician to a serious and amazing amateur. Please don't buy it so that magicians like me can still amaze guys like you.
Terrific potpourri of sleights, flourishes, and tricks.......2000-12-27
If I could take lessons from one card magician living or dead, I'd probably pick Jean Hugard. Although he wrote decades ago, his ideas are so timelessly fresh that the serious student of card magic will rejoice when reading this book--it's equally as good as "Card Manipulations." Like its predecessor, it has sleights, tricks, and flourishes that cover the gamut from intermediate to truly advanced. I wouldn't, however, recommend the two Card Manipulation books as first choices--"Expert Card Technique" is a more comprehensive source for sleights and "Encyclopedia of Card Tricks" describes all manner of tricks. But if you want all of Hugard's major works--and you will--you'll spring for the reasonably priced "Card Manipulation" books. They are that good.
The best book ever.......2000-04-21
Teaches alsome tricks for any level of skill. A must for any learning wizard

Good Learners Book.......2007-05-03
Ordered this book as a gift for my husband. He's new to card tricks. While he didn't find the entire book useful, he did find a lot of interesting/entertaining tricks to work on.
Overall 4 stars because it helped him learn some new tricks but didn't keep him occupied for more than 2 weeks :).
A great book for ideas.......2007-03-30
Some people cook by recipe, others "by ear," so to speak. I do magic by ear. That is, I look for ideas, and then usually tweak things to fit what I think makes sense.
This is a tremendous book for ideas! Lots and lots and lots of them.
So for a "give me an idea I can run with" person, I think this book is just great. For someone looking more for a step-by-step recipe, this probably isn't the book for you.
Good start.......2007-02-19
The title of the book gives a good idea of what is in store. Primarily an information source of magic card tricks.
Light on useable information so far as performing is concerned, yet good for the historian.
Then again, most magicians are weak performers and strong on history, so this book will be a treat.
Very Complete Book of Card Tricks.......2004-11-15
This book is great in its completeness and organization. It walks you through most of the card tricks. This book is not geared toward beginners or younger audiences. If you are a visual learner this book is not for you. There are very few pictures and diagrams so you will have to use your imagination at times to visualize what the trick is supposed to look like based on the descriptions.
Card Tricks book is a great reference.......2004-01-22
The cardtricks book is well written and PACKED with card tricks - more than you could deal with in a lifetime. Hugard has written many books on the subject and you can't go wrong. Another online resource I found and loved is http://www.ellusionist.com - amazing site with card trick movies and a bunch of cool stuff.
