Hip-Hop is another world..........2005-11-09
Book two of the Diamond Series, DIAMOND DYNASTY, starts with a bang. With Filthy Rich and Willie Green, two arch-rivals still at each other's throats, the camps they represent are consistently put in danger. With both men out to get each other, the empires they are struggling to hold onto suffer.
Filthy Rich is caught up between two women; one for love, one for lust. To make matters worse, his camp has been infiltrated and he can't decipher who the traitor is. The woman he loves has left him, and his drug game is not as tight as it used to be. Too many things going on at one time leaves Rich very vulnerable - and stupid.
Willie Green, the brother of the woman Filthy Rich is in love with, hates the ground Rich walks on. With strategic moves, he's placed more than one traitor within Rich's camp, and is out for blood. His bravado isn't so strong when he's confronted and is almost shot, but the only thing that continues to spur him on is the fact that he wants only one thing - Rich's head.
DIAMOND DYNASTY is definitely a soap opera, but comes off very confusing at times. It's a sequel to the first book, Diamond Drought, and if you haven't read it, you may find yourself grasping for missing information and wondering about some events that happened in the previous story. Jumping right in, the story is written with the assumption that you're already familiar with the characters and certain hip-hop songs. This is a true hip-hop saga, full of deceit, lies, drama and of course, touches here and there on the drug game. Unfortunately, there are a lot of characters and leads to follow, which takes away from the overall context. Before picking this one up, make sure you read the first. You'll need it. Although it may take a little getting used to, don't discount it - the hip-hop saga continues.

Diamond Dynasty "The Hip Hop Soap Opera".......2005-05-16
Once again it's on Brandon McCalla has blessed us with another action pack tale from the hood. When we last left Afta and Major are beefing, Anna is pregnant, Leaya is living in the clouds , Shantel is having troubles with her evil Twin Toya, and a host of other characters are having their share of drama. Will it ever stop "I dont think so". Mr. McCalla has brought us into the real world of the Hip Hop industry exposing us to how it is when drug dealers become rappers and can't shake the streets off of them. Major is struggling with his issues of Monique not being here but also suffering silently from the loneliness of not being apart of the team. Only to find himself in the arms of Sparkles. Rich is running around trying to find a way to get back at Willie. While Leaya and Anna plan for the new baby. Afta is dipping and ducking both Destiny and Major while Prime and Germany blow up on the music scene. Now what can we say about the "Black Erica Kane" aka Shantel or is it Toya. Will Shantel ever deal Rich rejecting her or will she just exploded? Will Afta and Anna live happily ever after? Will Destiny come to terms that Afta has moved on? Will Major find his way back home? And most of all will this end the drama of Rich and Willie? If you need to know the answers to this and main more questions. Run out and get your copy. Cause I'm definitely not lending mine out!!!!!!!!!!!
The Dynasty Continues!!!!.......2005-05-16
Mr. McCalla's hip-hop soap opera picks right up where it left off. Shantel is disguising herself as Toya in an effort to get closer to Rich's girl Leaya. Major who is now cohabitating with Sparkles is busting shots off at Afta while making the ave red hot for Red October.
If none of these characters sound familiar than you obviously missed out on one of the hottest boooks of 2004, Diamond Drought. Part II Diamond Dynasty does not disapoint. Finally a sequel that answers all the unanswered questions of it's predecessor. Not only are secrets revealed but loyalties are crossed.
Mr. McCalla also expands the roles of some of the smaller cast members from book one. The block hugger Red October and my personal favorite Afta's gun wielding baby-momma Destiny both have more time to shine in part II.
Books one and two alone of the Diamond Series prove that this author is destined for greatness. I wouldn't be surprised to see this book on a big screen in the near future. It definitely jumps off the pages in true cinematic form.
THE DRAMA CONTINUES..........2005-05-12
It's been one year since the jump off, which caused the grand opening of Rich's club "Diamonds" to be the grand closing on the same night. Along with a few dead bodies and some wounded ego's, Rich and crew are back in book two of the diamond series, "Diamond Dynasty". Rich continues his war with nemesis Willie. It seems these two are cut from the same cloth, who will overcome the other?
Can Rich and Leaya's relationship stand up in this war against Willie?
Will Shantell ever get Rich into her bed? Has she lost her touch?
Major is wounded, both physically and spiritually...this soldier is lost. He has distance himself from the crew, but deep within he knows, he wants to be back in the fold...damn, he's about to become an uncle!
Afta is about to be a daddy for the second time; but Destiny, his first baby mama, is furious...so much so, she's letting off bullets and she don't care who they hit!!
Brandon has written this ongoing saga with a sophisticated flair. Each page holds an hypnotic essence that will captivate and draw you into the life of this hip-hop soap opera.

Fun read and return of Wendy's amusing characters.......2006-09-01
I checked this book out of the library for a quick read. I have been a fan of Elfquest since I was a kid and couldn't resist looking through new artwork by Wendy Pini! I was entertained in both areas of story and art.
The story is told in retrospect by the human, Shuna, adopted by Cutter and Leetah. The story isn't amazing, but it entertains for an afternoon. The art was done using Photoshop and I think Wendy uses the technology well, a lot of the panels reminded me of her work in the Hidden Years. She's top notch again with the facial expressions of the elves. The best panels don't have any dialogue. Those people who do not like the new art just need to calm down and accept her choices!
I would advise anyone to READ this story, just because it is a nice addition to the Elfquest archive, but I wouldn't buy it. If you want to spend money on a truly worthwhile piece by the Pini's get your hands on the first Hidden Years anthology. It has the best artwork the series has to offer and includes five different stories spanning three generations.
AT LAST! A breath of fresh air!.......2006-06-19
Though this story was no where near the original elfquest series (graphic novels 1-8) it held that old flair that has been truely lost in the newer novels. The art was still missing whatever made the originals so monumental, but it was closely akin to their old ways. Though on a smaller scale than previous books, the storyline was well formed, telling the tale of the sole human member of the Wolfriders, Shuna, and her struggles with finding her place in the tribe. It follows her journey to unit the worlds of both man and elf. It also delves into Treestump's quest to master the elusive art of metal work for the good of the tribe.
One of the reasons I enjoyed this so much was that it focused a bit more on some of my favorite characters, Dart and Kimo, who've been poorly represented the whole way through, Their joint friendship with Shuna is endearing and a highpoint for me.
Though this book is still of a lower class than that of the mighty originals, I'm giving it four stars because it seems to be the begining of Elfquest's long overdue trek back to greatness. YAY!
SAD.......2006-06-06
wow this was a terrible story and the computer coloring was HORRIBLE. I feel terrible that Wendy Pini had really lost her touch. There are no fine details, and its just sloppy.
What are people complaining about?.......2006-05-08
Okay. The insect tribe was a little on the dorky side...BUT I honestly enjoyed everything else. People huffing & puffing about Wendy's use of a computer for art are just finding something to complain about. You like Elfquest? DO NOT deny yourself this collection, for heaven's sake!
Story false art is pleasing.......2005-10-04
While, beggers cant be choicers. Its good just to see some of the old characters again done in the beautiful art you can expect from Wendy Pini. The story leaves a lot to be desired. Its done in a narrative and is ridiculously short. You cant place when this is happening you keep asking yourself where is this character where is that character from all the old stories. But if you are knew to the ElfQuest scene you will still have just as many question but may what to know more. The book is a eyecatcher more than a catcher of the imagination.

Discard Bias And Fasten Your Seat Belt.......2006-02-28
This book must be considered as the ultimate anathema to the "science-myth" debunker crowd. Written by a man of science as well as imagination, it tells the story of what really happened to a historical figure - a man named Captain William Morgan, who was "apparently" murdered by freemasons in 1826. This act itself sparked a noteworthy social movement. It was the author's intent that this book would spark a different kind of movement - away from blind faith in orthodoxy and a rekindling of thirst for pure knowledge and discovery. Sadly, that has not happened as yet. Witness the iron grip of secrecy surrounding government research projects in general and the facts about UFOs in particular. Forced ignorance of the population at large is the order of the day. But if you can put aside your prejudices, read this book in one sitting, and reflect on the changes it has made in you. Consider the challenge it poses to the materialist view of reality, and the cohesive theory of its own it presents, by implication. Mere fantasy? Think again. Also read "Moongate" by William Brian, and reconsider the finality of current theories on the morphology of the Earth and the planets. You will be at once surprised, amazed, piqued and outraged, but not in the way you thought you would be. Highly recommended reading from one of the most gifted minds in scientific American history.
Don't lend this book...its just too darn good!!!.......2006-01-20
I loaned my copy of this book to my best college buddy 24 years ago and have never seen it since...it is absolutely a wonderful book in any genre...a must read...and if you see D*** D***** from Jacksonville Beach Florida, tell him I still want it back!
Kentucky Descent.......2005-09-15
I saw a movie called The Descent recently about some cavers who enter unmapped caves and discover pale, hairless humanoid creatures who set about gobbling them up. Well, this book tells the tale of a man who is led into a huge cave system in Kentucky by a pale, hairless humanoid creature. The man (supposedly one Captain William Morgan, author of Exposition of Freemasonry) is led by the creature into the bowels of the earth, ending up on the alleged concave surface on the inside of the 800 mile thick earth's crust. He doesn't get gobbled up by any creature, but has a couple of hair raising encounters.
I found this quite entertaining, but ultimately disappointing. Just as things are getting interesting the story ends! I felt cheated. The "being" seems a bit of a know-it-all. OK, 19th century science had its obvious failings and there are still many unanswered questions today, but there didn't seem much point to the scientific lectures delivered to Capt Morgan by the "being" during their long trudge through the earth's crust.
Some fair points are made about the state of Western civilization, e.g. the parallels with the last days of the Roman Empire with regards to excessive abuse of alcohol, also the wastefulness of advancing research into human biology. On the down side, the book seems suspiciously pro-Freemasonry to me, portraying it as a benevolent, occult organisation concerned with advancing the interests of humanity. The "being" at one point announces that at some point in the future a happily united humanity will be led in Capt Morgan's footsteps into the earth. He doesn't state what will await humanity on the other side though. For an alternative perspective on Freemasonry see books such as The Brotherhood, Inside the Brotherhood and Darkness Visible.
Still A Mystery.......2004-11-20
This is an extremely odd book. It was written by a well-respected pharmacist from Cincinnatti (whose reference works are still consulted and who created a pharmaceutical library that is still in use today), but the subject matter is not only fantastic but prescient.
The cover story that Lloyd presents is that he was given a manuscript whose author (Llewellyn Drury) was unable to publish, so Lloyd made arrangements to publish it himself. It concerns a man (Drury) who received a supernatural visitation from "The-Man-Who-Did-It" or "I-Am-The-Man", a renegade Mason interested in alchemy who transcended the Masonic system and was initiated into a deeper organization-- one that has contacts with the inhabitants of the Hollow Earth.
The details of "I-Am-The-Man'"s abduction coincide with the story of the possible murder of Captain William Morgan, a Mason who wrote a book 'exposing' the Masonic ceremonies and whose drowned body was found afterwards in Lake Ontario. "Etidorhpa" maintains (fictionally) that his drowning was faked and that Morgan went on to be initiated into a deeper (in every way) organization.
Most of the book deals with "I-Am-The-Man"'s experiences underground with his mentor, an eyeless human/amphibian creature, and their journey to the center of the Earth. It seems that at every turn, "I-Am-The-Man" comes across something he can't comprehend and his mentor helps him through his episode of cognitive dissonance. This sort of situation repeats itself when "I-Am-The-Man" has to explain things to Drury. I was especially interested in the chapter that deals with General Relativity-- which, if the book's chronology is correct, predates Einstein.
"Etidorhpa" had some resonance with H.P. Lovecraft, but Lovecraft's subterranean fantasies were scary-- while Lloyd/Drury's story is ultimately benign. "Etidorhpa" is "Aphrodite" spelled backwards, and Aphrodite is the goddess of love.
(P.S.: Drury/Lloyd left such a detailed description of his trip to the entrance to his mysterious cavern (near Mammoth Cave) that people have made field trips to the general area. This is getting interesting.)
(P.P.S.: Beware the Science of Man.)
Journey to the Center of the Mind.......2004-10-05
In 1993 the Albright Knox Museum in Buffalo, NY held an exhibit of the works of the late San Francisco-based painter and collage artist Jess, among whose works was a rendering of a passage from Etidorhpa. Eleven years later I was inspired to read this book - and what a find it was!
Etidorhpa is a work of pharmacological and geological fantasy which progresses through a series of Masonic-style initiations into the mysteries of the earth, the mind and the inner soul of humanity. At times it is reminiscent of Dante's "Divine Comedy" with a slimy, sightless subterranean serving Virgil's role as cicerone and Etidorhpa herself as the Beatrice of the narrator's journey. By turns it evokes Homer's "Odyssey," DeQuincey's "Confession of an English Opium Eater," Coleridge, Verne's "Journey to the Center of the Earth" and of course, Lewis Carroll's Alice in Wonderland and Thru the Looking Glass. If you read this, you might find Ted Nugent and the Amboy Duke's "Journey to the Center of Mind" an appropriate musical accompaniment.
On a personal note, my coming to the book was something of a journey as well. Though I first became aware of the book in Buffalo and read it eleven years later in San Francisco, the action takes place in Cincinnati, the narrator's address and the scene of most of his mysterious interview taking place in 1895 somewhere in the downtown area of W. 8th Street and Western Avenue near St. Peter-in-Chains Cathedral (which is mentioned in the book). Some 90 years after the tale here narrated, I walked these streets daily for three years on my way to work. Bits of reality (the Cathedral) were thus mixed with historical imagination (trying to imagine that neighborhood 90 years before) as well as pure fantasy. As a result for me the story became both more real and more fantastic.
I am not exactly sure of all the lessons Lloyd sought to teach here. The story hints at several deeper truths. Near the surface is a lesson on the psychology of chemical addiction. At a similar depth there are warnings on the dangers of both extreme science and fanatical religion - making the book relevant to today's concerns with both stem cell research and jihad. More precisely, since the action in the book takes place in 1895, and the narrator is told to put the manuscript in a vault for 30 years (to 1925), I have to wonder if Lloyd did not see that science was headed for Nazi-style human experimentation as seen in the death camps. The author repeatedly and strongly warns of the dangers of unbridled science and to me, this would be the scenario we was concerned to warn against.
Excised from the MS:
"O, Science, what crimes are committed in thy name!" -- Gilbert Highet
There is a lot here: Good story, mystery, intrigue, bizarre initiations, the hint of secret knowledge, instructions on how to see your own brain tissue, in-depth discussions on matter, gravity, fluid dynamics, caves, fungi, drugs, medicinal plants, the possibility of human immortality, the potential of post-human evolution, life, love, the deepest secrets of the heart and the rather ambiguous and multi-dimensional "end of the earth" -
It's all here. But it will take many readings to mine all the ore.

Progressing from the ground upliterallyit looks beyond the more decorative aspects of design to study the properties and uses of both finishing materials in the design field and structural materials in the architectural field. For interior designers and specifiers.
Customer Reviews:
Very Poorly Written.......2006-08-22
This book is very poorly written. It also does not adequately discuss estimating materials.
Broad Outlook on Interior Products.......2000-06-21
This book is a good reference for anyone who is currently designing or building a luxury home, but for a general education on construction interiors, this is not the book. There are many references to the latest products, which include both color and feature description that will be quickly outdated. Most of the discussion centers around materials that would be used in an affluent home rather than your typical family residence, and product descriptions focus on the unique product, not the typical. Dimensions for comfortable clearance and layout hints are useful for residential layout, but the commercial references are very limited.

All of this and more may be found in this new monograph devoted to Serrahima, whose oeuvre testifies to the ability of a gifted graphic designer to address problems inherent to a wide range of visual and information media--from journalism to the visual arts, from mapmaking to stage design, and from games and public spectacles to the aesthetic qualities of home appliances.
Book Description
A Six Feet Under-style story of a family of psychics by one of America's most trusted clairvoyants.
Most weekends in the 1950s, the Iacuzzo house in Buffalo, New York, was filled with adults and children from around the neighborhood. If Mary Iacuzzo wasn't yelling at the women to stop hanging on to cheating husbands, then the neighborhood kids were screaming and running from the messages daughter Rosemary was delivering from dead relatives. Son Frank recounted his dreams-which often came true-as he prepared his younger sisters for school each morning. Terry, the youngest, obsessively began counting tiles and tracing patterns in an attempt to cope with the mass of information about other people's lives that flooded her tiny being. And from behind the bar of his restaurant, their father doled out predictions on everything from horse races to politics.
This is the ordinary and extraordinary Sicilian family out of which sprang one of the country's most prominent psychics, Terry Iacuzzo, who has such a high-powered client list that it will remain a secret till her dying day. It's the story of the spiritual underground of 1960s and 1970s New York City. It's the story of the birth of a great seer. As Marisa Tomei has said, Terry Iacuzzo's "life has to be a movie."
Customer Reviews:
Very Different Psychic's Story.......2007-04-17
I bought this book because the title was catchy and the excerpt made the story sound interesting. Not many books are written telling the stories of a family of psychics.
Iacuzzo's writing style has a nice flow. Her narration and description of scenes makes you feel like you are there with her. Learning about her abilities and those of her mother and sibilings' is interesting.
Unfortunately, many of the tales Iacuzzo writes about are very disturbing and painful. I kept wondering when this sensitive person was going to get help for the abusive relationships and heavy drug use that went on and on in the second section of the book. It was very surprising to learn that Iacuzzo could do readings under the influence of alcohol (drugs too?)--her abilities are so good.
If I were the editor, I would have cut that second section down *alot* and had the author focus more on developing the third section where Iacuzzo finally starts doing her true calling--helping others by giving readings. The part about attending the Spiritualist camp was fascinating!
The book was finished with me feeling glad that the author found her true vocation but still sorry that personal healing and joy have seemingly not been reached yet.
A highly unusual and compellingly written autobiography of a gifted psychic.......2007-01-22
Terry Iaccuzzo's wonderfully written story shows the fallacy of the assumption that pronounced psychic ability automatically gives you an immunity to life's pains, fears and uncertainties. She reveals with candor, humor and excruciating honesty that gifted psychics are as full of human frailty and vulnerability as any other human beings. In addition, their misunderstood abilities can be very challenging to learn to manage wisely.
Terry's writing style is wonderfully engaging and her ear for dialog is superb. Rarely does an autobiography translate into a compulsive page- turner, but she has accomplished this feat with apparent effortlessness. I laughed, marveled and felt great compassion for the times in her life when she seemed to be struggling to find the basic foundation for a meaningful, stable life. I'm getting more copies to loan because I can't wait for the friend who has my copy to finish it before I give it to others to read.
Very interesting,couldn't stop reading.......2006-03-16
If you are the type that does not believe in psychic ability, then you won't like this book. If you are like me and know it exists, then this book is a very interesting read. I couldn't put it down, wanting to know what happens next. There is a lot of talk about homosexuality and while I'd like to think that everyone would have no problem reading about it, the truth of the matter is that some people are uncomfortable for whatever reason so be forewarned. Terry talks about her whole life from what her parents were like when they grew up to how she is now. There is talk of her finding herself and learning who she is as well as examples of her and her family's psychic ability. I wish I had that amount of psychic ability myself although it must be hard to have others thoughts and feelings bombarding you day in and day out. I am very glad I found this book.
Oh yeah, this is the stuff.......2006-01-22
I REALLY enjoyed this book. A major page-turner, very emotional and engaging. Appreciated it so much that (since the author no longer does readings), I contacted her sister, who's also psychic, and had a reading done. Those predictions have yet to transpire, but should soon. Get this book. PS. to prior reviewers - I believe the message from the author is some things are meant to be. We have a past, and, perhaps, a future. She claims her family has been here before, together. Part of knowing about everything is knowing about everything.
I had to stop reading this book.......2005-12-12
Disclaimer: I did not read this entire book. I'll report here why I had to stop reading it.
I believe in the reality of psychic phenomena. Failing any evidence that she is a hoaxer, I have no reason to doubt that Terry Iacuzzo is as psychic as she reports in the pages of "Small Mediums at Large."
The portions of the book that I read were well-written. Characters were so vivid that they jumped off the page; not a word was wasted. This is polished, distinctive, professional writing.
Here's why I had to stop reading: exactly because I do take psychic phenomena seriously, I was uncomfortable reading about a woman who has such power and presents herself as being so completely ungrounded and unbalanced.
In the portions of the book that I read, Iacuzzo describes herself as being victimized by others and being unable to take a stand.
In one vignette, Iacuzzo described consulting with a client who had been horribly abused as a child. Iacuzzo knew exactly what happened to this man, but was utterly unable to help him. She never makes clear why she could not help him. She seemed to have adopted an attitude of, "This man is doomed, and I'm not going to do anything to change that."
Any kind of power demands some kind of grounding, and balance. In the portions of this book that I read, Iacuzzo didn't show that balance, and that grounding. She came across as an unrooted plant, tossed about by the wind. That she is so psychically gifted makes her lack of grounding all the more disturbing.
Power without discipline can be very damaging.
It's one thing for her to submit to abusive behavior from her parents, herself, and her brother, as she so vividly describes, without ever seeking some system or belief that could empower her to create a better life for herself.
It's another thing to read an exceptionally powerful woman virtually curse a client to a lifetime of excrutiating suffering because she, Terry Iacuzzo, could not adequately address his plight.
People who have been through torture, and child abuse, and any number of horrors have been able to rebuild their lives.
It is not for Terry Iacuzzo, just because she, herself, has no belief system that offers hope, to condemn a client to a life of suffering.
