The writing is the main disappointment in Hulk v. Thing Hard Knocks. There's not much excitement or tension and hardly any plot. Jae Lee's art differs from his usual atmospheric Milleresque-Sienkiwicz renderings.

The art is the high point and saving grace of this work and justifies its purchase. Pretty pictures, petty plot.

With longtime Hulk scribe Bruce Jones' conspiracy arc pretty much over, the title was put on hiatus for four months to make way for this four issue mini-series. Marvel's two biggest and baddest bruisers face off for the first time in a long time in Hard Knocks, as the Hulk and the Thing of the Fantastic Four have a knock down drag out brawl in the desert. During the fights, both recall their first meeting and the sordid history between the two. Jones is an excellent writer who nearly took the Incredible Hulk to the Peter David-level greatness that it had lacked for years, but his story and script are average at best here. Nothing really compelling, just two monstrous beheamoths beating the tar out of each other. And while that's all well and good, the Jones twist that long time readers expect just never comes, and Hard Knocks ends up being pretty run of the mill. What saves the book however is the art by Jae Lee (Inhumans, The Sentry), who gives both the Hulk and the Thing incredibly grotesque looks, yet leaves them all the more iconic. As a bonus, a copy of Marvel's Giant-Size Superstars #1 is included as well, as new readers can see a classic showdown between the two. All in all, fans of Jones' run on the Hulk will want to check this out, but you're better off waiting for the title to come back from hiatus.

I love this book! My own oldest child just got married, and I plan to read the story of Michael's grandmother's visit and her secret gift to my future grandchildren. I loved this little book ! The special story Grandma told to Michael is a special thread of love from one generation to another which says not only that you are special, but be reminded of it when you see Gods magic in unexpected places.
I also enjoyed the intImacy of viewing what I interpret to be images from a family photo album.
I will never eat an apple the same way again and I will save this book for my daughter as a reminder to look for Gods magic in common places too .

My mom has this cookbook and I pull it from the shelf every time I go home. The recipes are excellent and the anecdotes from Dupree & Co's lives regarding Southern food are delightful. It really does capture a certain warm and generous spirit in Southern cuisine, combining old favorites with new and interesting ideas in a way that still fits in with the whole milieu. (It might sound silly to say that the pictures are gorgeous, but they are, and add not just visual information to the book but a lot of, well, heart.) I'd recommend this to anyone.

This is my favorite cookbook ever--I think everyone should have one. Ms. Dupree packs this full of recipes that real people can and would want to make--I like to think of her as comman man's Martha Stewart. What makes this extra special are the wonderful stories and beautiful photographs that accompany the recipes. Even if you never lifted a pan, you'll have a great time looking through the book, although I dare anyone to read through it without wanting to immediately try at least something from it!

If you love cars, you'll love this book ... even if you've never been within a day's drive of Chicago. The book includes hundreds of fascinating professional photos of dream cars, show cars and production models that appeared at the Chicago Auto Show during the past century. It also neatly blends in plenty of intriguing details about the organization and promotion of one of America's best auto shows. This annual event's history is an interesting saga that reflects the ups and downs of American life during the 20th century. From the early horseless carriages to the grand classics of the '30s and the muscle cars of the '60s, and right up to the concept cars of recent shows, this book includes them all. The authors clearly know their stuff -- captions for the photos (most of which have never been published before in an enthusiast book) are accurate and informative. I have hundreds of cars books, but for sheer browsing enjoyment, this is absolutely one of the best.

The future revealed.......2001-06-24

This is one of those books I constantly use for reference. Nevill Brody for those of you who dont know is one of Englands preminent designers. This book is ricly colored and pleaseing to look at. As you would expect from the man who did the original layout for The Face and many other fringe magazines. The only problem I had with this book was the lack of relavent commentary from Brody himself. However, I feel this is still (along with Vol.1) a must read for and aspiring graphic designer.

Neville Brody, a great modern designer.......1998-05-11

In this second collection of Brody's work, it presents to us his use of the computer and its influence on his design. While his older work was more conservative, yet still radical for its time, his recent work truly embraces the digital age. It surpised me how easily Brody , a more traditional designer, can translate his ideas to a digital medium, but his work will continue to drive young designers to "copy" or to be inspired by his work.

Neville brody is one of the best contemporary graphic designers, he needs no further presentation. This book is a collection of some of the great works he produced, going from magazine editorials and stamps, to publicity. It is a great inspiration source for me, for those working with graphic design and for those who simply like to appreciate a good artist an his work. Color pictures printed on good paper, very well produced. Excelent compillation of works. Enjoy it

Important contribution to the literature of the movement........2001-11-02

I found the book fascinating, and appreciated the personal revelations Ms. Hamilton shares. I believe the book is invaluable to those seeking an insight into the attraction of these kinds of movements in general, and the Rajneesh movement in particular. I believe that Ms. Hamilton does take an apologist's tone regarding the Bhagwan's involvement or knowledge of the violent attacks on surrounding communities. Ms. Hamilton suggests that Ma Sheela and her security force were solely responsible for the attacks without the knowledge of surrounding community members or the Bhagwan. I believe that her idealization of the Bhagwan continues to affect her analysis, and causes her to cast the members of the movement as victims of an individual. I grew up in a small town, and know that secrets simply cannot be kept. BUT people can always refuse to look...
