Tongues Of Fire.......2003-10-21
Tongues Of Fire is one my favorite short stories. This book is also available on cassette tape so if you can check it out at your library. I fell in love with Karen a young girl growing up in the south with a mentally ill father and a mother who's most concerned with getting her eldest daughter in college with her reputation intact.
Poor Karen turns to the church and prayer without ceasing. Karen falls in love with a young guest preacher at first sight. It reminded me of my own crush I had on a guest preacher once. I remember shaking his hand and eating a breakfast of scrambled eggs with him. When the story ended I wanted to know what happened to Karen. What kind of a person did she grow up to be? Lee Smith I want more! Above all this story is an inspiration to writers. If you don't have the confidence to tackle an entire novel you can start with a brilliant short story.

Barely rates 3 stars.......2006-06-01
Containing stories written by Cary Bates & Elliot S. Maggin, E. Nelson Bridwell, and Martin Pasko & Paul Levitz, with art by the great Dick Dillin & Frank McLaughlin, CRISIS ON MULTIPLE EARTHS VOLUME 4 continues the interdimensional team-ups that were a staple of DC Comics up to the time of the Crisis on Infinite Earths. This volume collects Justice League of America #123- 124, 135-137, and 147-148. These stories feature 3-way team ups, with the JLA of Earth-1 and JSA of Earth-2 meeting the heroes of Earth-S (Captain Marvel, Bulletman and Bulletgirl, Ibis, Spy Smasher, and Mr. Scarlet and Pinky), the Legion of Super Heroes, and even the aforementioned writers Bates and Maggin (of Earth-Prime, of course)! A beautiful cover by series regular Alex Ross ties the stories together and lets you know exactly what guests to expect.
Okay, now the bad part... I'll admit it: while I enjoyed reading the various multiple Earths crossovers of the `60s and `70s when I was a kiddo, it was mostly because I had no knowledge of DC's golden age characters and was fascinated with these odd-looking doppelgangers of my beloved JLA. Hawkman with a hood? Flash with a dinner plate on his head? Superman with gray hair? What the heck??? I didn't pay much attention to the stories back then, and after reading up through the 4th volume of CRISIS ON MULTIPLE EARTHS, plus one volume of THE TEAM-UPS, I can say that while these stories certainly do have nostalgic value, the majority lack a coherent storyline. In fact, volume 4 really serves as a testament to the sorry state of DC's writing stable in the late `60s and early `70s. Story premises are as thin as the paper they're printed on, plot shifts come out of nowhere, and writers throw in everything but the kitchen sink, possibly hoping the reader will be so overwhelmed that they won't notice how bad the stories are. Bates and Maggin's encounter with the JLA and JSA is an exercise in ego that deserves a big raspberry, and Bridwell's story with the Earth-S heroes is so unfocused and convoluted that I eventually had to write it off. Luckily, the final Pasko/Levitz-penned story with the LOSH saves this book from being a total waste of time. So back to that Alex Ross cover... yes, it's much better than the selection of stories contained within.

An Interstellar Search and Pursuit.......2003-06-16
Delta Search is the first novel in the Quest For Tomorrow series. This SF series for young adults is about a gene engineered child, James Endicott, who is being sought by Delta, both a man who is James' biological father and a shadowy government agency with an interstellar reach. Delta had caught his mother when he was an infant, but James was rescued by Carl, who was a friend of his mother and knows about the altered genetic coding.
In this novel, Jimmy lives with Carl and Tabitha on the Terran colony Wolfbane. On his sixteenth birthday, Jimmy is given a Stiron und Ritter .75 rocket pistol like Carl's and an adult permit to the training range. Jimmy presents his application to the Space Academy to Carl and Tabitha for their approval, but Carl tells him that he can never apply. He is still determined to gain admission to the Space Academy, so he transmits the application despite Carl's orders.
Later, Jimmy confesses his actions to Carl and is surprised at the reaction: Carl tells them to pack everything they need to leave the planet. He also tells Jimmy to wear his S&R .75 from now on. Carl does fill him in on part of the situation and Tabitha tells him more. Then the raiders hit their cabin.
This novel is more of an escape and evasion plot than anything else, but it is also the tale of James Endicott's coming of age. He now knows that he is being hunted relentlessly and later learns that the hunter is Delta. In his flight, he meets Cat Thibaudeaux, who takes him under her wing.
This novel was apparently written in collaboration with William T. Quick, who has also written Systems, a fairly interesting SF novel. This novel, however, does not have the complexity of Quick's other novels.
Recommended for young adults and anyone else who enjoys relatively simple plots in a SF setting.
There's better science fiction out there.......2003-03-25
From other reviews I had read, I had high hopes for "Delta Search." This book didn't meet those expectations at all. The story is contrived and overused, the characters are unrealistic and unattractive, and the ending was inane. This is what one gets when reading the pop culture junk that pervades our society. Please don't waste your time on this book like I did. There are plenty of other great books out there to be found. Now if you are looking for a good novel along a similar line with realistic characters and an engaging story line, I would recommend "Ender's Game" by Orson Scott Card instead.
Quest For Tomorrow is a great trilogy!.......1999-09-07
I think this is a great book and William Shatner is a very good author. This is the first book i read that is by him, and i'm getting a good impression.... Can't wait till the next two come out.

I would reccomend this book for ages 12-Adult. Its an amazing book, combining spetacular action scenes and a thick plot. I am a heavy sci-fi reader, and if you like sci-fi, You'll love this book.

Shatner is getting to be a great writer and I was really impressed! I liked the book so much, I bought book 2 in the hardback version, so I could read the sequel right away! If you want a great week-end escape get both books.

This book provides a competent and clear introduction to the main periods of Protestant Theology. Early chapters deal with Luther and Calvin, then moves through the English Reformation, the formation and development of Liberal Theology, to the directions of recent Protestant Thought. Thus, the book is a presentation of Protestant Christinity that holds to the belief that the nature and meaning of Protestantism can best be understood in light of studying the historical development of the Protestant movement.
Excellent resource for the pastor, theologian, historian or seminary student.
Excellent for the serious lay person, who has some background in Protestant studies. It is clear and understandable, but it is not simplistic.

As someone who has to really watch her sodium intake, I'm thrilled that this book has turned out to be so great. I own a number of low sodium guidebooks and cookbooks, so I've become very familiar with this category. I've only tried two of the recipes so far, but each was an "out of the park" home run. The first was Just-Like-Mom's Meat Loaf, and, forgive me, Mom, but it was way better. And at 115.8 mg of sodium per serving, it was right in the sodium range that I'm looking for. It was easy to prepare, turned out to be moist with terrific texture, and had a wonderful sweet-spicy sauce. And there was plenty for meat loaf sandwiches, which is one of the best things about meat loaf, the left overs for sandwiches! The second recipe was Tasty Turkey-Stuffed Peppers, and it couldn't have been easier. Even with only one pound of turkey, you'll definitely need very large bell peppers or at least two medium sized peppers. And, again, the left overs were terrific. Another very appreciated feature is that most of the recipes don't call for a ton of ingredients, which make these recipes quick and easy, and best of all, low sodium!

Good for the beginner, can't replace a big book.......2007-04-01
Does have lots of patterns, If you have a collection of green you want to identify this is a good cheap book. The pictures are mostly on a red background, distorting the colors to an awful avocado green. The glass is much prettier than it looks. Prices are OK, divide by 2 and that is what you should pay outside of a specialty/city dealer (with no chips, no obvious wear). Boy, are some people going to hate that last sentence.

New Paint Magic -- a 'Must' for a home decorators library.......2006-02-24
No serious home decorator's library is complete without a copy of this very valuable and informative book. The New Paint Magic book is certainly not for the 'splash and dash' approach to painted finishes and techniques. Instead, the book provides an excellent and thorough approach to techniques and materials for restoring, painting and decorating painted surfaces, including floors, walls and furniture. I used the section on painting and varnishing furniture as a guide to painting an armoire and the results were amazing.
Good info...terminology may be confusing.......2002-12-18
This was my first decorative painting book. I enjoyed it but found that the British terminology could occasionally (not frequently) trip me up Once you understand that "emulsion" is really latex paint you will find the information in this book very helpful. Jocasta Innes is one artist who catapulted decorative painting into the public spotlight and this book contains oodles of examples from basic sponging to trompe l'oeil techniques. I followed her technique for colorwashing in my livingroom and am very pleased with the results. I do recommend this book.
Short on illustrations...but loads of info.......2000-02-11
Like the other reviewer, I was hoping for superb instructions from this master of faux finishing...but what I did find was loads of text providing helping tips for many finishes, use of tools, colors and products. My most valued section was the Fundamentals. Here, Innes discusses finishes and stains, how to use them, what can go wrong, advantages and disadvantages. Still a valued book to my decorating library.
Did not live up to my expectations.......1998-11-25
Having heard so much about Jocasta Innes, I was dying to get my hands on this book but when it finally arrived, I felt let down. I had expected step by step photographs for each technique (or at least a lot of photos) with step by step detailed instructions as well as the secrets to getting a professional looking finish. Close up shots of the various finishes are also few. I also did not like the fact that the book is very text book like.
However she does cover a lot of techniques; from the usual colourwashing,ragging and sponging to things like faux fresco, rubbing, staining, vinegar painting etc.
J.Innes also offers some advice on choosing colors(although a separate chapter on colour e.g. the different colours, colour recipes etc. would have been a nice addition), decorating tips and provides some nice photos of whole rooms that give you a better idea of what the finish would look like.
"The New Paint Magic" is a disappointment compared to Kevin McCloud's "The Complete Book of Paint and Decorating Techniques". McCloud provides detailed instruction on each technique, outlining the pitfalls as well as lots of beautiful photographs with colour recipes for each finish. A good buy.
I certainly would not recommend "The New Paint Magic" to the beginner.

Este es un libro, que lejos de querer ayudar en algo, pretende primordialmente ganar plata y subir raitings de tv azteca, ellos lo hicieron. Por mas que han tratado de engañar a la gente, aun habemos muchos que queremos a Gloria, sabemos que es Inocente y estamos concientes de la falta de etica de esa empresa, por lo tanto y dadas las atrocidades que han cometido en contra de ella, su familia y amigos, tv azteca deja mucho a desear, aunque hayan logrado parte de su objetivo: destruir a Gloria desde que firmo con Televisa. Se supone que este libro tenía el fin de liberar a Gloria y a sus amigas pues hasta sale su foto en la portada y dice, "Descubre la historia de Aline y el infierno que sufre Gloria Trevi." Lo malo es que, vuelvo a repetir, esta hecho con leña verde. Si les gustaría aportar dinero a esta gente, si les gusta escuchar o leer sobre gente que se hacen las victimas, los martires, puros, buenos y santos, que les encanta la plata por encima de todo y que se cuelgan de la fama de otros sino, ¿como la harian?. ¿Como venderian? compren el librito.
