Book Description
America's most elite fighting force, the U.S. Navy SEALs are on the move -- taking the war to a fanatical enemy intent on the total annihilation of freedom.
TARGET: TERROR!
Death is riding the waters. An enemy stockpile of virulent biological weapons is in transit -- sent by Saddam and bound for Sudan -- to be used against any U.S. ally in the Middle East. The existence of the doomsday ship sends shockwaves rippling through the military intelligence community -- and the SEALs are dispatched to the Red Sea aboard a high-powered nuclear submarine to defuse the threat in their accustomed manner: with clean, quick, and deadly precision. But there is one fatal catch. The target ship has a second cargo: Islamic pilgrims sailing to Mecca. And in a region primed to explode, a single spark could ignite a huge and terrible conflagration impossible to extinguish before it consumes the world.

A fun read for military fiction fans.......2005-08-02
I agree with previous reviews about the details in this book. Compared to other offerings in this genre it reads as more authentic and realistic. The action is thrilling without being over the top and unbelievable. Let's hope "S. M. Gunn" keeps them coming.
Loaded with tactical details.......2003-05-19
Whoever this author is, he sure packs his SEAL novels with plenty of tactical details. The target reader is someone who revels not only in the big geopolitical picture, but also in such minutiae as the correct stacking order of a train, or how SEALs get heavy equipment loads up a caving ladder, or what is the proper swim formation to board a ship. It's all here, and it's all woven into the plot with outstanding believability. Most of us will never know if the details are correct or authentic, but this guy's writing sure sounds realistic. If you're a SEAL fan, don't miss this book!
NavSpecWar's best storyteller.......2003-03-05
A fine addition to the line of books dedicated to Naval Special Warfare Operations. Well paced and excellently researched, providing the reader with more inside information that they can possibly imagine. It tells a story that can only appear in print as "fiction", but has great real-world importance. How will SEALs fight the next war? Read this and find out.

Second Compilation Of A Great Crossover, But Incomplete.......2004-11-24
"Our Worlds At War" is one of the greatest largescale crossovers in comic book history. In the two-volume trade paperback form, though, it is somewhat hampered by the fact that not all of the chapters are present - they've endeavored to get the 'main' chapters in here, but there are a large number of other issues (apparantly considered 'peripheral' to the overall story) that were omitted. The reader can still, of course, buy the issues not reprinted here separately, but it's still a major (and rare) misstep for DC to have not made this collection a set of three larger trade paperbacks to have the complete saga represented. My advice is to buy the trades anyway and try to get as many of the other OWAW tie-ins as possible too. Despite the mishandling of the presentation, I can't bring myself to give this anything less 5 stars.
I myself have read most of the crossover but have yet to secure a couple of issues from the early going; I have the "Volume 2" Trade Paperback and a slew of individual issues from the first half of the event, plus issues from the second half that actually fit in 'in between' individual issues reprinted here. I really wanted to review "Volume One" as well, but I don't have every issue reprinted within (even though overall I have most of the first half, including issues not reprinted in trade form). Some of the Trade Paperbacks I've done writeups on I have done based on the original issues reprinted (as opposed to the TPB format), but only when I have the complete material. I don't with OWAW Vol. 1, so I'll have to just do a writeup for this volume.
Now the crossover itself (if you're still reading, thanks for putting up with that preamble) - this is bigger and more far-ranging than any event DC has done since at least "Zero Hour", bigger even than "The Final Night" - far bigger in fact since this is a galactic, time-spanning conflagration that threatens to eventually consume the whole universe, and it crossed into numerous titles (although the title of the TPBs would imply it's an entirely Superman-oriented event that's not really true - the Man Of Steel and his cast play the biggest role but it involves just about all the main characters of the DCU. This volume actually does a better job of presenting a wider cross-section of the books involved than Volume 1 did). The great adversary of the event is Imperiex, a Galactus-level character who commands legions of "Imperiex Probes" that are basically smaller, non-sentient versions of himself, each of them powerful enough to alone be a challenge to Superman. Opposing this world-destroying entity is a vast coalition of planets, into which Earth is inducted at the beginning of the event. So great is the threat that not only have worlds like Almerac and Tamaran and the survivors of Kalanor (Despero's homeworld), destroyed by Imperiex prior to the OWAW Volume 1 TPB at the beginning of "Superman: Or Worlds At War Secret Files # 1", (which REALLY should have been included in the first trade), have come together, but even Apokolips itself is in on the alliance! Other players come into the fray very unexpectedly in this volume, and are best let unrevealed for the reader to discover on their own.
Clearly, this is not an 'introductory' book to Superman or the DC Universe - it's very complex and of necessity assumes a familiarity by the reader with a great number of characters, races and concepts; a saga for fans already deeply and passionately into the DC Universe. If you're not a Superman reader this crossover isn't the place to start - the "Superman: No Limits" trade paperback, reprinting material from a couple years earlier when DC did one of their periodic 'jumping-on' points to make it easier for new readers to come onboard, would be a good choice and fairly recent place to start off if you want to get into the comics - using this as a starting point would be kind of like starting off on "Lord Of The Rings" with the third novel (except of course that's the final novel, and there is no 'final chapter' to things like the DC Universe or Marvel Universe, and, God willing, never will be).
There is massive destruction in the event, more than in "Lord Of the Rings", the whole "Star Wars" saga, and "Independance Day" put together, and thankfully it's Felt by the characters, it's not like some action movies where everything blows up but nobody seems emotionally affected by it. Younger Superman fans might be better off going with some DVDs from the animated series of a few years ago, than something this intense and technical. People who don't read comics are unaware of how much there is to them these days in terms of intense action, drama, social issues, massive complexity, etc. There's also alot of humor, lightness, fun, etc. but OWAW is an example of how thunderous and grand-scoped they can get. All this is expertly brought to life by the writers and artists, to the point where you can practically hear the lava plumes of Apokolips.
An excellent book this Volume 2 is, though of course anyone reading it should go with the Trade Paperback/OWAW issues that preceded it. One of the best of the 'giant-sized' crossovers, up there with the Batman "No Man's Land" event and Marvel's X-Men "Age Of Apocalypse" saga from a few years back.

Or not. Because Mattie Blankenskrean will do anything to get her computer back. And don’t look now, but she’s right behind them!

A Fun Frenzy.......2004-08-08
Fast and furious is the pace as the siblings, Ashley and Austin, try to reach home before Austin is completely erased by a "bad code." He is disappearing as fast as the two zip from site to site in their cyberworld. The details of walking across a web site and bumping into representations of favorite characters as well as drop-down menus and hidden hyperlinks is what makes this book uproariously fun to read.

Book Description
The Legend of Bagger Vance, directed by Robert Redford and starring Matt Damon and Will Smith, releasing November 3, 2000 in theaters nationwide. Rush-released to coincide with the film's release, Steven Rosen's GITA ON THE GREEN (Continuum Publishing/November 2000/$18.95 hardcover) will appeal to serious readers and serious moviegoers alike.
Customer Reviews:
Another Krishna Consciousness interpretation.......2004-01-03
The Legend of Bagger Vance is one of my favorite books and I have spent a fair amount of time studying the Gita including reading portions of it in Sanskrit. I picked up Gita on the Green with high expectations but was quickly disappointed when I realized that it was written from the Krishna Consciousness perspective (A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada's Bhagavad Gita As It Is).
I would recommend the Stoler-Miller translation of the Gita.
Not much about the movie but great treatise on the Gita.......2001-10-20
If you want to know what the Bhagavad Gita is about and are too lazy to actually read it, this is the next best thing. Great review of jnana, karma and bhakti (knowledge, action and devotion) concepts.
Not too much about Bagger Vance but great bk on the Gita.......2001-10-20
This book gives a relaxed and informative treatment of the essential doctrine of the Bhagavad Gita. If you're too lazy to read the Penguin Classic translation of the Bhagavad Gita, get this. Knowledge is the first step to enlightenment!
Gita on the Green is Gold.......2001-03-09
I have read and loved many of Steve Rosen's books. GITA ON THE GREEN is a welcome and worthy addition to my collection of his books. I had previously read the Bhagavad Gita, but had little knowledge about golf, and hadn't yet read The Legend of Bagger Vance.
The reader will benefit most by reading Bhagavad Gita As It Is, The Legend of Bagger Vance, and Gita on the Green together, or in quick succession. With both simplicity and thoroughness, Rosen ties together and explains this ancient and eternal tradition expressed in the Bhagavad-Gita and how it is explained in the new context of golf for the modern reader in Bagger Vance.
Now, for it all to come full circle, I await the Sanskrit translation of Gita on the Green!

Reviewed by Madan Mohan
It is not often that a book is released that answers so many questions or does so many things at once. First, you have elaborate analyses of Bhagavad-gita, the ancient spiritual classic, and the Legend of Bagger Vance (both the novel and the movie). But more, you have a learned study of the interrelationship of the Gita and Bagger Vance, which is quite an achievement. The greater achievement, also accomplished in this book, is that the reader, without ever having read either the Gita or Bagger Vance, can walk away from this book with a clear understanding of both!
Bagger Vance takes the Gita, a spiritual dialog that occurs on a battlefield just before the onset of a massive war, and transposes it onto a golf course. Rosen, in Gita on the Green, takes the golf course and shows how the teachings of the Gita are indeed perennial, to be understood as much on the links as in a monastery. The charm of this book is that it conveys the Gita's teaching almost incidentally, while explaining a contemporary novel (Bagger Vance) and the Robert Redford movie that sprang from this novel.
But Rosen's book does so much more. It is also a autobiographical, with a Teachings of Don Juan sort of vibe. The author tells his personal story about meeting a saintly person in India and how he studied under this saintly person, much as Carlos Castaneda studied under Don Juan. This sets the groundwork for just who this author is, and how seriously he takes the subject. This also allows him to express his own initial reservations about the Gita, such as his repugnance for the violence of the battlefield (since, as stated, the Gita takes place in the midst of a great war). Pressfield, who authored the original novel of Bagger Vance, was impressed with Rosen's personal journey-- and his knowledge of the Gita-- and he consequently wrote a foreword for Rosen's book that all but makes one ask, "Hey, are these two in cahoots?"
After these initial introductory chapters, Gita on the Green launches into its analysis of the Gita, always mindful of the Bagger Vance parallels and golf as a metaphor for life.
Rosen is meticulous in his investigation of the Gita, offering details of its origin, its inclusion in the larger epic (the Mahabharata), and how it was originally meant to be understood (in the guru-disciple relationship). Moreover, he goes through each of the Gita's eighteen chapters and explains them in a user-friendly sort of way. He cites many Gita studies, books on golf, and contemporary works on psychology, such as those of M. Scott Peck, in order to highlight the Gita's central teachings and make them relevant for people of today. This is perhaps the book's strongest aspect: It takes an otherwise difficult Indic scripture and allows it to shine through with the simplicity of a modern-day novel. It offers readers the essence of the Bhagavad-gita in an accessible and approachable way. This, it might be added, is no small task!

Book Description
The rules of the Meat Club: - You have to be a girl - You have to eat meat (any kind) - You have to love to talk about meat - What's said in the Meat Club, stays in the Meat ClubTired of eating Caesar salads and poached chicken breasts every time they got together with the girls, Vanessa, Gemma, and Kristina confided their guilty secret to each other (for what, after all, are girlfriends for?): What they really wanted to eat was meat. And so the Meat Club was formed. The Meat Club Cookbook is a collection of tried-and-true recipes culled from the authors' favorite meals together. Roasted, braised, sauteed, stewed, or grilled (yes, these girls can handle a grill with the best of them), as long as it's meat, they'll cook it up and eat with gusto. With tips on how to choose and cook the most popular cuts, cute gatefolds revealing the different cuts of meat, and a convenient lay-flat binding, this substantial book is the perfect companion for girls who want to have their beef, their pork, their lamb -- and eat it too.
Customer Reviews:
Real utility behind the cute design.......2006-05-11
The premise - girls who get together to eat MEAT - and the format - trimmed out in vintage needlework - may be cute, but this book's utility is quickly evident. First there's the opening chapter on shopping (cuts, grades, organic), cooking techniques and equipment. Each chapter opens with a pink embroidered cow, pig or lamb illustrating their respective cuts and the recipes are step-by-step straightforward. This is a book for the kitchen. It's even spiral bound and modest-sized for easy use.
There are recipes for every cut and once you get past the too-cute names: Busty Burgers Three-Way Filet, Slow-Lovin' Beef Brisket; there's a wealth of solid information and good ideas like the warm onion relish for steak, and burgers with blue cheese inside. Actually the cutesy names mostly peter out after the Beef chapter, giving way to more descriptive names like Tangy Tarragon Pork Roast and Bacon, Basil, and Apple Sandwich.
Even a novice can turn out great chops, roasts, braises and stews with the Meat Club girls.

Pedal Car Restoration and Price Guide
ASIN: 076430836X |
Book Description
A fantastic presentation of history and culture, of designers and automobiles. The author has explored family history and far beyond to explain how pedal cars were made, and why they ultimately lost favor in the marketplace. Workers who actually made the cars provide information that counts for collectors. Charming oral histories from the men and women who made hubcaps and welded little bodies come to life in photos and illustrations from the factories to the showroom floor. See hundreds of cars that are lovingly collected in all stages of repair, from rusty frames and rotting wheels to gleaming chrome and custom paint. It is the first compilation of photos and facts put together to tell a story about where the toys were made and how they continue to give joy to collectors, in addition to up-to-date pricing information.
Customer Reviews:
This is the ONE.......2002-05-11
This is a big, beautiful, hardcover book that traces the history of the pedal car a.k.a. the "junenile auto". It is authored by a woman who married into the Garton Toy Company of Sheboygan, Wisconsin. Garton was one of "the Big 4" in the manufacturing of pedal cars. The book begins with an introduction on pedal cars followed by a chapter on the Art of the Juvenile Automobile, highlighting the careers of the various designers and what inspired their designs. There are four chapters on each of the prominant pedal car manufacturers (Garton, Murray, Gendron, and AMF/BMC). And finally two chapters on collectors and collections. The last chapter contains a source page (publications, places, events, etc.) The text is interesting and informative, however, its the color photos (aprox. 550) that will make your mouth water. If I had to choose one book on pedal cars, this would be the one.

Customer Reviews:
Some good ideas but not comprehensive.......1999-05-21
I need to convert a bedroom into a home office. Sarah Gaventa's book on Home Office Design gets you started in the right direction with some interesting ideas and stunning photography. She covers the usual topics: seating, desks, lighting, storage, etc., with a slant toward design aspects. I thought she spent too much space describing details such as window treatments, which does not affect the function of an office. To me the most interesting part has to do with unusual spaces converted to offices, such as a stable, stair landing, end of a hallway, or an attic conversion. She also includes a design guide with a selection of various kinds of graph paper to fit any project, which helps with this essential phase of the design process. Also, there are several pages of manufacturers including addresses and phone numbers, which potentially could be a good resource. At 96 pages, the book typically shows only a few examples of any concept. I wish the book could be more comprehensive, and more geared to function rather than design, but it's worth the price to those starting to plan their home office.

Close to Home.......2005-04-19
This book was given to me by my fiance who had received this book while in the hospital after receiving his heart transplant. Being 18 years old and having a heart transplant is hard enough, and he was able to find some inner peace from this book. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and I highly recommend it to anyone who is interested in organ transplantation or anyone who wants to read an uplifting story. Claire and my fiance are definitely inspirations to me, and this book also helped me understand some of the feelings and emotions that these two wonderful people have expierienced throughout their journey. I urge many others to take the time to read this wonderful story.
Extremely Moving!.......2005-03-29
I just finished reading "A Change of Heart" - Claire Sylvia & William Novak's original book. It's currently no longer in print, so I wound up ordering it from a used bookstore. It appears that the reprint is now available - with a slight title change (it now incl. "A Memoir").
At any rate, I found this book to be truely amazing! The basic premise is that Claire went through a heart & lung transplant, and afterward, she noticed some major changes in her personality (i.e. likes and dislikes) - was it due to the fact that she now had another person's heart and lungs within her? That is a question that you are left to answer for yourself.
I like the fact that this book explains what was occuring through Claire's point of view, and then goes on to discuss many other "experts" ideas as to why these things were happening. No one idea is pushed on the reader - the information is layed out for you to make your own decision.
I believe that this book is a "must read" for anyone who has gone through a transplant, knows someone who has, or is just plain interested in happenings that cannot currently be explained by western science. An open mind is a must!
P.S. This book also reminds us of just how important it is to check that little box on your license & become an organ donor. It may give someone the gift of life one day!
Makes Your Heart Sing.......2005-01-18
Claire Sylvia's book will cause you to reevaluate everything you know about your body, your personality, and life overall. Before reading her account I never would have believed that individual organs within the human body have their own awareness, intelligence, and memory. Slyvia's story is a testament to enduring and magical properties of living things and shows that modern science has yet to fully grasp the amazing nature of biological life. Highly recommended. (Dr. Simeon Hein is the author of Opening Minds: A Journey of Extraordinary Encounters, Crop Circles, and Resonance and the forthcoming Planetary Intelligence.)
EXCELLENT.......2004-05-13
This book was amazing, it changed how I looked at transplants. What the patients go thru, and there are times that the Doctors want to only think CLINICALLY, but there are times and instances that you have to look beyond, and believe what you don't see and trust in that.
Food for thought.......2003-10-09
After reading "The Heart's Code" by Paul Pearsall and now this book I am convinced we are just beginning to scratch the surface of the science of transplant information and details about the heart and how it controls personality.
It is a proven fact that heart patients who are ill have a sudden change in temperment and also proven that transplant patients take on some characteristics of the donor.
There was a case of a nun who received the heart of a prostitute (absolutely true story) and many more in Paul's book and this book seems to focus on one true story of one woman.
You have to be careful though, if you've had open heart surgery or are waiting on a transplant it can get a bit emotionally heavy as you related to her having to face death. Watch the dark tones and you'll be fine as you read the info. The object is to come away having learned some secrets of what to expect and those are very very interesting.
There was also a case of a transplant recipient who began using vocabulary words from the donor and then later when the patient met the donor's family and used those rare words randomly they were floored. Good read.

Book Description
This is the story of Brian's life, from meeting Jeanne until receiving a heart transplant and beginning life again. As a rowdy teenage boy, Brian met and fell in love with Jeanne. They began a lifelong friendship, which would follow them through marriages and divorces, to be reunited in midlife to fall in love once more. Just three short years after their marriage, they faced real adversity. Jeanne was diagnosed with cancer. Learning that Jeanne would not recover, Brian suffered a massive heart attack. His friendship with Peggy, stepmother of Jeanne's children, helped to pull Brian through his mourning and his wait for and acceptance of a new heart and new life - Brian's change of heart! This is an unusual story by an unusual man. Few people alive saw more adversity than he did, and no one showed more resilience. This book is one of the best examples of individual bravery, persistence, and overcoming obstacles with grace.
