A young man drawn to her by a power beyond his understanding.
A father searching for his lost son.

Download Description
An ancient vampire, beautiful beyond words, a vulnerable young man drawn to her by a power beyond his understanding, two desperate parents searching across the world for the son they love - these are the riveting, unexpected elements of Whitley Strieber's extraordinary new novel. Lilith, the ages-old mother of the dying race of vampires, has been forced to come out of her cave deep in the Egyptian desert in search of food - human blood. But she knows nothing about the modern world. She can't drive a car, rent a room, turn on a TV. She struggles to New York, penniless, vulnerable, and starving, protected only by her beauty and her power to capture men with desire...especially certain very special men. The instant she sees young Ian Ward, she knows that he is part vampire himself. She knows that Ian, if he ever tastes human blood, will belong to her forever. And she needs him desperately, to help her survive and live in this harsh new world of jets and credit cards and guns. She sets out on a campaign of seduction - as sensuous as it is terrifying - to touch human blood to Ian's lips, which will then become for him a drug a thousand times more addictive than heroin. Ian's father, Paul Ward, part vampire turned expert and obsessive hunter of vampires, knows that if the blood transforms Ian, Paul will have to kill his own son. The titanic conflict between father and son and seductress, hunter and hunted and huntress, comes to its surprise conclusion in the secret chambers beneath the great pyramids, where the hidden truths of all human history are stored. From its beginning in the dark back alleys of Cairo to its totally unexpected ending, Lilith's Dream draws the reader down seductive new paths of discovery, into places where no novel has ever before. With Lilith's Dream Whitley Strieber has created a vampire so original and a story so new that he has virtually invented a new genre.
Customer Reviews:
Surprised Anne Rice hasn't sued Whitley for this lestat ripoff........2006-06-19
Vampires in caves in Egypt, asleep for Millenia, Lillith the 1st Vampire, Leo the vampire rock star, reads like Anne Rice Vampire chronicles to me.
What an obvious ripoff.
Great vampire story with an Indecipherable ending..........2005-11-08
I loved this story and the vampire, Lilith. The book moved along quickly and i enjoyed the concept of the mother of all vampires, meeting a modern world. I really felt this book was 4 stars, until the last two chapters. After re-reading and re-reading, I still do not understand what happened. Hence the 3 star rating.
still some life left in vampire saga.......2004-05-14
I enjoyed this novel a lot more than other vampire novels, chiefly because Strieber is such a good writer. This novel may not be terribly original, but it has some of the most vivid writing I have ever read, especially in the descriptions of Lilith's attempts to deal with the modern world; not only that, it doesn;t rely on gore to deliver the thrills, though it does have its horrific moments. On the minus side, it is, like I've said, not terribly original, there is some pointless name-dropping, and there is a glaring mistake in chapter 10 in which a woman throws her empty gun away, but then still has it two pages later. An A for effort, but a B (at best) for results.
I've read good vamp books & I can only say "huh" about this.......2004-03-11
I tried really hard to get into this book, and I am an avid reader of several different genres. Typically when I read a book I like, I pick up everything I can find from the author...after reading this my first thought was...ok - well thank goodness that's over...I can honestly say that I have absolutely no intention of buying any more of Strieber's books.
The Worst Movie Script I've Ever Read.......2004-01-23
It is a shame, because this man CAN write. He DOES have enviable imagingation. But Strieber has sold his soul to Hollywood. His second book in the series, "The Last Vampire" was pretty good, and he sold the rights for movie production (see the book's back flap.) Apparently, "Lillith" is an attempt at a sequel to that. It was filled with enough action-horror-film elements to impress a 14 year old boy. One can see the author's struggle to tell a passionate story colliding with his desire to make a cheap-**s movie script.
The first two books in the series describe his vampire (Miriam) as a horrifying thing to be loved and feared, but she had dignity. She had an agenda that never slipped. This Lillith chick is just that--a chick with fangs. She doesn't know whether to enjoy her food or feel sorry for it. She doesn't know whether she is a creator or a monster. By the end of the book, neither do I!

Supergirl rules!.......2007-09-03
Whether you like Superheroes romantic approach or not you can not deny Supergirl is a strong part of the Superman mithos. The fact that some incredible genius RESURRECTED her these last years brings JOY, PEACE and a overwhelming feeling of GRATITUDE to these guys. I have tons of comics of her and let me tell you the story is HARD and HEAVY, it really rocks, the art is beyond words and I got to tell you that Jeph Loeb and Ian made a remarkable team for one of the best comics I could ever purchased! I love Supergirl and maybe I am being a little partial, but believe me, if you like good comics get this one, it will trap you to follow up the story of the Girl of Steel. I salute you!
The Maid of Might Takes Flight.......2007-05-20
'Supergirl: Power' (or as I like to call it 'Kara vs. DCU') is the immediate follow up to the 'Supergirl' story arc in the 'Superman/Batman' series. It documents Kara Zor-El's first adventures as The Girl of Steel and raises a lot of questions about the true motives of her arrival here on earth.
'Power' collects issue #19 of 'Superman/Batman' and issues 1-5 of the regular 'Supergirl' series.
Someone is keeping tabs on Kara, and it isn't Batman. Whoever it is has been setting up disasters around the world to 'test' the new kryptonians abilities. These 'tests' include blowing up the Hoover Dam, sending terrorists to the Eiffel Tower, and shooting down Air Force One. After dealing with Poison Ivy, Harley Quinn, and Clayface, Kara goes looking for someone she can talk to, someone to be a friend, someone who can answer all of her questions. Her travels bring her in contact with the Justice Society of America, Teen Titans, Outsiders, and even the League. They all confirm her suspicions; there is something dark inside her. Kara discovers that the person who has been spying on her is non-other then Lex Luthor. After a little showdown she is exposed to black kryptonite and has a 'splitting of the minds' so to speak. Kara has to figure out who she really is, was she a good girl gone bad? Was she always evil? Or is blue, yellow, and red her true colors after all?
The reason I called this arc 'Kara vs. DCU' at the beginning of this review was because it basically is. Kara (in one form or another) takes on all of the major hero's in the DC Universe. She fights Power Girl, Superboy, Wondergirl, Raven, The Outsiders (minus Nightwing), The Justice League, Wonderwoman, Batman, and finally Superman himself. She even occupies a Green Lantern power ring for a short while.
I loved this arc, it wasn't as good as 'Superman/Batman: Supergirl' but it was still good enough to earn a five star rating from me. The art is brilliant and the story is as good as you can expect coming from a literary genius such as Jeph Loeb.
I do however suggest reading 'Superman/Batman: Public Enemies' and 'Superman/Batman: Supergirl' first. I mean, you don't really have to, Loeb provides a quick recap of how Kara Zor-El came to be on earth, but everything will feel a lot more complete if you've read the arcs leading up to this series first.
Great magazine!!.......2007-05-14
This is a great item! Drawings are excellent. Worth to have it in your collection.!
not as bad as some are saying here..........2007-05-08
this isn't the dark knight returns, but this really isn't as bad as people are saying. i thought this was a pretty enjoyable graphic novel. after this i read the superman/batman: supergirl graphic novel and everyone loves that series and i thought that book had a lot of promise but was ultimately cheesy and poorly done (especially the end). this one looked better in retrospect. ok maybe it was a crazy idea just to get a black costume supergirl out to fight everyone but it's not bad.
Painful....save your money Kara fans.......2007-04-09
Many fans of the original pre-Crisis Supergirl cheered when DC Comics and scribe Jeph Loeb announced he was 'bringing Kara Zor-El back' in the pages of SUPERMAN/BATMAN. But here in this TPB, which contains the first five issues of the current SUPERGIRL run (plus an additional one-shot story taken from SUPERMAN/BATMAN), someone should have warned, "Be very careful what you wish for." Because it soon becomes clear that Loeb has pulled a typical 'bait and switch' on nostalgic fandom.
The vapid blonde tart depicted here may use the name "Kara Zor-El" and possess the usual Kryptonian abilities, but that's pretty much the ONLY elements this new version of SG has in common with her pre-Crisis counterpart. And instead of setting up a 'new' character within her given DCU environment for the length of this story arc, Loeb treats us instead to Kara's pointless fisticuffs with almost every DCU Super-team she runs into. If the point of this tiresome exercise was to explore Supergirl's idea of "power" in regards to herself and her earthly environs, then Loeb utterly fails in this regard, as he pulls another 'bait and switch' on Kara's backstory in the obviously rushed last chapter.
Also, to make matters worse, artist Ian Churchill only possesses about three generic facial expressions for Supergirl and the supporting cast, and instead focuses on lurid illustrations of SG's bizarre elongated torso and too-short skirt for socially-repressed fanboys. While this may be all-too-typical of Churchill's Image-derived (by way of Rob Liefeld) style, the art overall seems pretty out of place for depicting a archetypal teenaged superheroine who's often cited as a role model for girls.
All in all, Supergirl fans would be far better off seeking one of her DC Archives collections of the Silver Age, because SUPERGIRL: POWER looks and reads more like it was ironically named after Jeph Loeb's Hollywood-sized ego.

Great comic book fun..........2000-10-30
This book is one of the DC Hero "Which Way" books (similar to Choose Your Own Adventure) that was published in the 80's. You are given control of Supergirl, and your choices determine what happens in the story. The storylines vary greatly, traveling from Camalot to Wonderland to outer space. Superman and several villians, including Braniac, make appearences. This is a fun book for Supergirl fans, and I would recommend picking it up, if you can find it.

Book Description
An Ambush of Shadows is the fifth book in the classic series of postapocalyptic novels about the people of Pelbar. Despite the tentative peace established in the eleven hundred years since the destruction of the United States, the Tantal tribe remains ready for battle. After their disastrous defeat by the Pelbar tribes at Northwall, the slaveholding Tantal have kept their distance. But since the Pelbar forces began moving northward to colonize the shores of the Bitter Sea, the Tantal forces have been on the attack.
Then one day, a roving tribe of Tantal warriors kidnaps a young girl during a raid on Pelbar explorers. The child is Raydi, daughter of Stel Westrun, Pelbar master craftsman, reinventor of the steamboat, and son of the leader of the Pelbar city-state Pelbarigan. Stel vows to reclaim his daughter and seek revenge, becoming the single-minded foe of all things Tantal.
Customer Reviews:
An Engineer/Poet fights back.......2004-03-07
"An Ambush of Shadows" is book five (of seven) in "The Pelbar Cycle."
Stel Westrun, having aided in the release of the "Dome" people (see "The Dome in the Forest," which is book three), is attempting to recreate the steamboat, based on knowledge they have provided from before the "Time of Fire." As is all too common in the interface between science and politics, however, there are factions in the city of Pelbarigan who see not a process of trial and error, by which he is improving each subsequent model, but a series of embarassing failures; failures which reflect poorly on the city. His wife, Ahroe, is also embarassed, and her role as Pelbarigan's chief delegate to the Heart River Federation, which is attempting to reunite the scattered tribes of Urstadge (known a thousand years ago as "America"), only adds to the tension threatening to tear their marriage apart.
Because of this tension in the family, their daughter Raydi decides to stow away on the steamboat for its first long distance trial run -- a decision that will lead to her being kidnapped and brainwashed by the Tantal, and will lead to Stel almost single-handedly destroying their corrupt culture. Once again Stel shows how a man utterly devoted to peace can be a rock upon which the intentions of more violent groups can be shattered; not to mention the wisdom of the advice "Never piss off an engineer."
From the back cover:
"For years after their disastrous defeat by the Pelbar at Northwall, the slave-holding Tantal had kept their distance.
But once the Pelbar moved northward to colonize the shores of the Bitter Sea, Tantal forces were always on the attack.
Then one day they kidnapped the young daughter of Stel Westrun, Pelbar master craftsman, re-inventor of the steamboat--and, suddenly, the single-minded foe of all things Tantal..."

Book Description
If such a thing were possible, Elder Neal A. Maxwell became even more reflective and tender toward the end of his life. Just before his passing, in July 2004, he completed this final book of thoughts and reflections.
"Moving in His Majesty and Power" includes three chapters adapted from landmark talks that have not previously appeared in any book"The Cosmos," "Free to Choose," and "Unto This Very Purpose." Using a style reminiscent of his Whom the Lord Loveth, Elder Maxwell also ponders such themes as suffering, dealing with the onslaught of evil in today's world, and preparing to live in a celestial culture.
Filled with original thoughts expressed in distinctive and lyrical style and celebrating his love of the Lord, this book is vintage Elder Maxwell and a fitting benediction to his vast body of inspirational writings
Customer Reviews:
Beautiful at times, unconnected at others.......2007-09-19
In his writings and speeches, Neal A. Maxwell eloquently expressed important and pithy observations, and the results were a joy to read or to hear. Even though it is not one of Maxwell's better works, Moving in His Majesty and Power still contains some beautiful, profound thoughts. Most of the book is comprised of decent chapters on topics such as agency and conversion. (Some paragraphs will be familiar to readers of his Conference addresses.) Towards the end, one chapter is almost entirely unconnected paragraphs, as though from a book of quotations or a daily calendar. Later, the book recovers and has some beautiful concluding pages.
"The Inexhaustible Gospel".......2005-09-28
When the gospel of Jesus Christ is studied, it becomes..sooner or later..larger than the individual studying it. The depth and understanding of this knowledge requires more than just perfunctory reading. To grasp this requires something more of us as readers. It requires some serious thinking, pondering, praying, careful listening and then finally it requires us doing..obeying/following. When Elder Maxwell spoke he structured his wording so that not only was it elegant and stylish, but it also required listening. In this his last book, he speaks on many topics such as God's grand gift of free agency to being a daily disciple. All through this work is woven the theme of how much God cares and know us, each one, individually. That even with all the majestic work of God's hand, we..his children..are his most important work. That stars and planets are not immortal, but through the atonement of Jesus Christ, we are immortal. He closes this book with his testimony of the "marvelous work and wonder" that is the gospel. To the LDS, it is a reaffirmation of the faith. To the non-LDS, it is an affirmation of hope. This is a book that deserves to be on any Christian bookshelf.
Saying 'goodbye' to a great man............2005-08-03
Anyone who has listened to Neal A. Maxwell's speeches or read his books will be aware of his command of the English language and the care he takes to make himself completely understood. This is one book where, as the preface indicates, he knew that it would very well be his last project to go into print. Considering his subject, it makes reading it all the more poignant as he condenses his thoughts in the straightforward, personal way that all who know him appreciate.
A volume well worth adding to any collection that deals with life, love and hope.
A FITTING FAREWELL.......2004-10-29
Elder Neal A. Maxwell, one of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles, finishes his prolific career as religious intellectual and writer with MOVING IN HIS MAJESTY AND POWER. Elder Maxwell's contributions are far-reaching to say the least. But his abilities to convey meaning in the written and spoken word were unparalleled!
MOVING IN HIS MAJESTY AND POWER is a fitting benediction to all that we have come to expect from Elder Maxwell. Though brief in its presentation, this book weighs in nicely with every other book written by this author. The eloquence, the thought and the provocative meaning are all there. A must read for all those who followed Elder Maxwell's ministry and felt a kinship with this great man.
