More Sweet Tea.......2007-08-28
I love books like this, they remind me of my childhood. I read Sweet Tea and Jesus Shoes, loved it, laughed, cried, all kinds of emotions and memories.
With More Sweet Tea, I didn't find it to be as well written. Not enough funny stories, not enough of the kinds of memories I like. But all in all it was a book that was worth reading
entertaining insightful look at the south.......2005-11-11
As expected from the Mossy Creek ensemble, this anthology provides an entertaining insightful look at the south. The fifteen tales are well written with each focusing on relationships made better by sharing sweet tea (no artificial ingredients allowed). As this reviewer read two to three tales a night, the charming stories reminded me of the trial scene in My Cousin Vinnie in which Pesci as the defense lawyer describes how to cook grits as he actually uses that as a metaphor on life. That is what the MORE SWEAT TEA and SWEET TEA gifts the audience. Fans will find the anthology quite endearing and groundbreaking as these belles of the south now include a male contributor this time, (Mike Roberts) amidst the iron maidens with hearts who have provided strong regional short stories with a variety of regional recipes such as Aunt Sophie's Pennies from Heaven or Bubba's Chili that go well with MORE SWEET TEA.

Graphic SF Reader.......2007-09-03
This is EXTREMELY bizarre. I repeat : This is EXTREMELY bizarre. A dodgy looking nerd hero wants to do good deeds. No one else wants him too, no one cares. Fish men, talking fish, conspiracies, other planets, betrayals, dead things, and whatever else you care to think of. Oh, and the girl is not interested, either. Very hard to describe.
"Da fug!".......2005-02-24
Grant Morrison's Seaguy is one of those few comic oddities that will keep readers faith in the medium. In a future world where super heroes are no longer needed, Seaguy and his best pal Chubby Da Choona find themselves in the middle of a real adventure when a food and drink element called Xoo takes a life of it's own. Zany and startingly original at the same time, Seaguy represents almost everything that makes Grant Morrison a modern day visionary in the comic world. Morrison's digs at mass consumerism and government control are more than apparent here as well, but as any reader of Morrison's various works know, this is of little surprise. The pencils of Cameron Stewart bring this utopian world to life, and frankly, Seaguy would not work the way it does if anyone else would have been on board. Seaguy isn't Morrison's best work, not even by a long shot (his runs on JLA and New X-Men, and not to mention Animal Man and the brilliant the Filth are literary and comic gems), but this book is a prime example of his originality and vision as a writer, and proof that there still is hope in the medium.
Not for everyone but if you like it..........2005-02-11
This is not a book that can be enjoyed by every reader, though, to be honest, very little of Grant Morrison's work is like that. He can tell amazing stories that make your head hurt, occasionally make you hallucinate and rethink how comic stories can be told while approaching every project with a totally new outlook but that outlook is not for everyone.
The first time I read the first issue I copied Chubby Da Choona and said, 'Da Fug?' I had to sit down and read it again to enjoy the subtle cartoonish nuances of the book. When the entire thing is taken as a whole then Morrison's bizarre vision really shines through. Love him or hate him, it's hard to say that he can't come up with stories that no one else would think of (whether or not you think that they work is another matter).
Cameron Stewart's art fits the tone of the book perfectly. Morrison has a knack for discovering the best traits of an artist and putting them to use. I think this is because he is one of the few comic book writers who realize that comic books are a visual medium and need to be written as such. Even his dialogue heavy pages are written visually. Stewart said that the next 3 parts of it have some of the most insane things he has ever seen and given Morrison that is saying a lot.
Its one part adventure serial, one part dystopian morality tale and one part Spongebob Squarepants camp. It adds up to one very interesting comic no matter how you add it up. The only major flaw of the book is that the ending is far too open and wraps up nothing, only setting up the next miniseries, which of course you immediately want to read. So in that respect the ending is a letdown in a uniquely Morrisonesque way.
Grant Morrison - Da Fug? .......2004-11-01
When a soft drink named Xoo comes to life suddenly, where do you turn? To none other than Seaguy, the aquatic adventurer who's out to win the heart of the beautiful She-Beard, and who, along with Chubby, his fish pal that hates the water, unearth a secret eons old!
Sound confusing? It is. But its also a trip well worth taking. Grant Morrison (We3, Invisibles, New X-Men) pens, and I'm sure this will be a shock, a very amazing/confusing tale at the same time. Starting in a world where superheroes are no longer needed, and eventually ending up at the moon, Grant uses this story to poke at consumerism and the government virtually non-stop. Of course, if you're a fan of Morrison's none of this should come as a surprise to you. Along for the ride is Cameron Stewart, the fantastic artist who brings Seaguy's world to life. He gives the cast a solid superhero look, but one that just seems more vibrant than that found in most fare. A big help was the colouring, making Seaguy's world really pop.
Should you buy this book? As long as you're prepared for a mind-boggling ride you should strap yourself in and enjoy the adventure.

NOT BAD, NOT BAD.......2000-05-19
A taxi driver, a monk, a D.J., and a supreme being are thrown together into the battle to save earth from Evil, a giant ball of volcanic rock plumeting towards our world.
The novelization contains Bisson's usual rich prose, but the mostly visual film doesn't exactly translate all that well to written form.
Most of the humor comes from a wacky narrative in the style of Douglas Adams.
About half way through the book, extreme differences from the film appear. It makes one wonder if the studio ever updated Bisson on script changes.
The story itself is fun. The characters often goofy. But differences from the film somewhat deter our interest.
But it's not all that bad.
Awsome.......1999-07-30

It filled in the holes....but.......1998-12-24
I really enjoyed this book. I loved the movie, and througout the reading of the book I kept asking myself whether it was written before, or after the movie was made. I think I will go with after. This book could have been a script for the movie, many of the character's lines are exactly the same as they were in the movie. But the book has some endearing moments between the two main characters which were not included in the movie. There were also some MAJOR plot changes, but I won't give them away. I had read (on the internet) about a similar book that had both this story and the other half "Mister Shadow" written together, along with a dictionary of the language leeloo speaks. I have yet to find this book, and am sure I will enjoy it as much as I did this version. I can't wait to see Luc Besson's newest project (which also stars Milla Jovovich (Leeloo)) "Joan of Arc."
If you liked the movie, you'll love the book and vice versa........1998-05-04
This book is just good, solid, popcorn-munching fun! Of course, that's to be expected, since it's based on a good, solid, popcorn-munching fun movie. One thing I really likeed about the novelization is that it retains the tone and style of the film. The book reads and feels like a comic book. Even with written-in sound effects. It was a pleasure to read this book. It made me want to see the movie again!
This is about the Fifth Element.......1998-02-08
I have seen the movie, read the book, hung millions of pics of Milla in my room and absolutely love it! I recommend this book for any one interested in "future relates to past sci-fi".
Book Description
Santeria is a religion similar to Voodoo, but Hispanic Criolo rather than French Creole. With millions of participants in the Americas, its rituals are a major assault on the Western Christian psyche, long accustomed to a distant God and to orderly liturgies. This Spring best-seller presents the gods, oracles, spells, and ceremonies of a growing covert religion of fascinating interest and growing importance.

cover to cover stereotype.......1999-06-18
I have read the book Santeria: A Practical Guide to Afro-Caribbean Magic and sadly to say that this book promotes the stereotypes about the religions associated with Santeria. It reveals the physical properties and most of them being negative showed a dark side that Santeria has to offer. For anybody interested on the subject, this is not the book to go with. I encourage readers interested in the subject of Santeria to continue their research on the subject and not to let "Santeria: A Practical Guide to Afro Caribbean Magic" be a conception of how the RELIGION really is. This is not to say that there are people who use Santeria to achieve selfish ends. But the realistic outlook on the religion is not contained in this book. This book contributes more to the demoralizing of a religion that is trying to regain its respect from so many years of misconception.

Customer Reviews:
"Tin Robots" would be more appropriate.......2004-12-24
I agree with Wil Overton's review (see above). This is a nicely done book for the tin-litho robot collector I suppose, but if you are looking for a real breadth of coverage on vintage space toys, in my opinion you will probably be disappointed. I am a big fan of rockets and spaceman/alien figures (Space Patrol/Tom Corbett/Rocky Jones, etc.)and found very little in this volume of interest to me. In fact, I bought it second-hand at half the publisher's price and felt it had not been a good purchase; but, then again . . . I was looking for much more than robots.
Nicely done.......2003-03-09
Granted, this is just a pretty slide show, but its done well, and I love looking at these old toys, some of which I had as a kid. The book is really well made, but lacks SUBSTANCE, know that you are buying a picture book and you will be happy with it.
Nice pictures, anyway........2002-09-01
... yes, it has lovely production values with super clear pictures but it also has its faults.
1) With so may space toys the book could have covered (and remember, this book does not claim to exclusively be a tin toy robot book) there are far too many of the same sort of toy. Many are just duplicates with a different paint job and could have been ditched in favour of a bit more variety, or at least shown in the context of the original toy they were based on. Where are Ideal's Zeroids? How about Major Matt Mason? Surely important space toys? Instead we get Rock 'em, Sock 'em Robots twice!
2) The toys are shown in alphabetical order within their respective decades which means that it's hard to see how trends developed within any ten year span. Sometimes toys are described as copies or alternative versions of existing toys but the original is only found further on in the book because its name is later in the alphabet. So much for their clear, easy layout which is hyped within an inch of its life.
3) Information is sketchy at best with many discriptions being almost identical and relying only on visual observations of the toy, something which anyone could do. Surely someone can supply reliable information about Japanese tin robot manafacturers? Some information is also incorrect. The UK Smash robot came from an advertising campagin for instant mashed potato not a comedy show whilst toys described as being influenced by real-life rockets are in fact copies of Thunderbird 1 from the Gerry Anderson 60's TV show.
All in all this is a nice coffee table book with nice photography but as a resource for space toys from the 50's to the 90's it sure lacks a lot. The authors would have been better off doing better research and thinking more about their choice of toys than to constantly congratulate themselves about a page layout that isn't very special at all.
An invaluable reference for collectors and dealers!.......2000-05-04
Vintage Toys: Robots And Space Toys is an outstanding compendium of 300 space and science fiction toys from yesteryear. Jim Bunte, Dave Hallman, and Heinz Mueller collaborate in offering the history of the companies that made these popular toys and the present day market valuations of each toy cited. Profusely illustrated throughout in full color, specifically designed for ease of use as a reference, authoritative and exhaustive, Vintage Toys: Robots And Space Toys is nostalgic, practical, and an invaluable reference for avid collectors and antiquarian dealers alike.
A Real Beauty of a Book of Robots and Space Toys !.......2000-04-26
Gorgeous 192 page, up-to-date book featuring more than 400 superb full color very large, sharp photos of more than 300 robots, spaceships and ray guns. This 1999 book uses a great format, with 2 toys per page, complete with a load of information on each item ! One of the best formats I've seen. It covers the years from the 40's through the 70's. A full color photo of the box is even provided with most toys. Topics range from Acrobat Robot, Astroman, Buck Rogers and Cape Canaveral, to Roby Robot, Smoking Spaceman, Space Trooper and Yonezawa items. You can't miss with this reference book.

This book is very entertaining........1999-04-16
It surprised as to the number of colorful pictures used. I can find almost any flower I want and the book gives me a short description, something I neve suspected in a floral arrangement book. I was very impressed!
Amazon.com
This colorful book of crafts is loosely organized around a seasonal theme, and consists mostly of instructions for making the items that go inside: sachets, cornstalk dolls, herb oil, dried flowers, Eastern European-inspired Easter eggs, and numerous other folk-art items. The Noah's Ark dough basket with its tiny dough menagerie is tremendously appealing--there's a real sense of fun here.

2 stars if you want to learn how to make true gift baskets.......1998-11-04
This book would get more stars from a craft-oriented person looking to make holiday gifts or centerpieces for family occasions. The title is misleading, in that it does not teach you anything about how to make, wrap and market true gift baskets in the sense that phrase is used by the "gift basket industry."
Book Description
Dried Flowers for All Seasons shows how to create dried-flower arrangements with the color, appeal, and just-picked look of fresh flowers. What's unique about this book is that it includes flowers not usually associated with dried arrangements -- including spring flowers such as tulips and daffodils. The book is arranged by season and there are several types of arrangements for each, including wreaths, sprays, and traditional bouquets. In-depth information on drying techniques is included. The book also features more than 300 color photos, a glossary listing more than 60 flowers suitable for drying, and step-by-step instructions showing how to arrange flowers.

more emphasis in arranging than I wanted.......2003-09-07
I was looking for more relaxed natural looks - if you want a good book on drying flowers, taping them to wire and arranging them then this would be a great book for that. Lots of beautiful pictures to inspire and seems to have lear instructions. Some info on the use of silica too.
Beginner's Answer to Dried Flowers.......2002-08-29
This is an excellent book. What I especially liked were the photos of the authors performing the techniques decribed. Very straight forward with lots of good project ideas. They included an extensive list of flowers, how they should be harvested, and the best drying technique for each. I've bought several dried flower books and if I'd bought this one first, it would be the only one I'd own.
WHAT A BOOK!.......1999-11-01
Every photograph and illustration is stunning. The Gertleys have brought dried flower arranging to a level that I've never seen anywhere in any other book.

Great book with beautiful pictures.......1998-08-24
This book has everything you need for drying flowers. I made my first arrangement last weekend and it turned out well. The photography is OUTSTANDING and is a real inspiration to create beautiful arrangements. My one complaint (and the sole reason I did not give this book 5 stars) is that it doesn't provide you with alternative flowers for the arrangement projects. I was unable to find a single flower that was required for one of the projects. More information about selecting flowers would make this book a 5 star.

Offers not just one but 13 intriguing personal stories from today's most prominent witches. Compiled and edited by Sirona Knight, a practicing witch and well-known Pagan author, this one-of-a-kind book provides a lens into the inner world of witchcraft as thirteen leading Wiccan authors describe their spiritual journeys via exclusive interviews.
These 13 men and women, including Patricia Telesco, AJ Drew, Ambrose Hawk, Lady Sabrina, Skye Alexander, Gerina Dunwich and Dorothy Morrison, explain how they came to walk down the Wiccan path, sharing their insights, feelings, thoughts, as well as describing their life-changing experiences. They all come from different backgrounds, live in different parts of the world, and practice different forms of magick.
This exclusive collection of spiritual journeys provides a close-up look into the magickal world of witchcraft, which can lead to expanded awareness, empowerment, and a more enriching life.
Customer Reviews:
Should be titled A Wiccan Like Me.......2004-10-25
If this book was titled "A Wiccan Like Me" it would have made more sense. Overall it was a good book to promote Wiccan pride and a nice read concerning the lives of Wiccan Witches. And I did get some nice insight into some of the more popular Wiccan authors. But if you are a Witch but not a Wiccan you may be disappointed at the heavy amount of "Why I became Wiccan" segments in the different chapters. Yet, each person's story was a wonderful read and no matter what religion you follow, if you are a Witch you can identify with the growth challenges the Wiccan Witches have endured. But for the record, not all Witches are Wiccan.
An inside look at a variety of Authors.......2004-03-04
A different kind of book, 'A Witch Like Me' is a collection of biographies from some of the most influential Author/Witches today. Sirona Knight has chosen 14 'Witches', all of whom follow a path specific to themselves, asked each of these authors 20 questions and put together a very insightful look at some of the movers and shakers of the written Craft path.
While many of the '20 questions' were actually multipart questions and there are much more than '20 questions', and in many instances the authors did not exactly answer each and every one of them, each author did give a good overview of the material asked. The editing blends these questions together to give us a narrative from each of the authors, resembling more of a story than an interview.
The authors covered includes Sirona's personal story, as well as Dorothy Morrison, Trish Telesco, A. J. Drew, Phyllis Currot, Ray Buckland and Marion Weinstein to name a few. The list is impressive.
Reading each story, we come away with a bit of each author, a little background, some impressive moments in their lives, their personal beliefs, their visions and how they feel about today's Craft movement.
The diversity of the authors chosen gives a variety of impressions, and while not all these authors will speak to everyone, I believe there is something for everyone in this little book. Not everyone is going to find each and every author exciting nor even interesting, but these are stories that will appeal to many.
'A Witch Like Me' offers inspiration, validation and positive affirmations. An interesting look at some of the authors in our community. boudica
Could Have Been Better!.......2003-05-06
When i got the book the first parts of the book were very interesting, however, had problems of the author talking about the so called "mainstream" towards the craft, which was kinda sick, cause after reading books from authors that she interviewed its really hard to believe in what they say. The true interviews that enjoyed the most were the ones by Trish Telesco (gotta root for the home town hero :) ), Raven Grimassi, Raymond Buckland, and Lady Sabrina and many others, cause these folks truly write in what they say in thier books.
The ones that i had to roll my eyes up and say "whatever" were authors she interviewed like A.J.Drew (cause after "wicca for couples", you cannot believe anything this guy says anymore), Phyllis Currot (which her book of shadows was a really great book, her lack of ethics in "witch crafting" were awful) and last, but, not least of the worst of the interviews Silver Ravenwolf (just read her books and you'll know why). These folks dont truly live by thier own words, instead, they either point the blame towards what is wrong with wicca..like the reader is stupid or something or they tell you how wicca "should be" and think that you should do it this way, cause thier way is the right way..thinking that the reader doesnt think for them self, this is what some of the interviewed authors (the worst ones she interviewed anyways) believe in the books that they write only in hopes that you will too. Anyways, i wouldn't bother with this book unless you want endless hours of "how i found out that i was a witch..ummmm i lit a match!" or something stupid like that, save your money and buy something better.
REALLY A GOOD BOOK WITH LOTS OF GREAT STORIES!.......2002-12-12
I thought this was really a good book with lots of great stories about today's witches. I am fairly new to paganism and I had read a couple of Knight's other books and really like them. I wondered about how she started writing books and practicing Wicca so I bought this book. I was happy I did. The stories are fascinating and really gave me lots of hope. I recommend this book to all pagans who want to know how these authors began in Wicca and how they started writing books on it. You will really like this book. It's a great book about the courage it takes to do what you believe in.
This book was really helpful to me. It changed my life........2002-06-05
This book was really helpful and changed my life when I read it. I was always curious about Wicca, and I seemed to be drawn to it for a lot of years. Knight answered a lot of the questions I had, and reading her story and the other stories really showed me that I definitely needed to follow the Wiccan path. Check this book out yourself if you are interested in Wicca.
