A strong, determined, and caring grandmmother!!!.......2001-02-09
"A Worn Path" was about an old black grandmother named Phoenix. She had a sick grandson and was very determined to keep him alive. During this story she faced alot of obstacles but, nothing could keep her from getting the proper medication for her grandson. This is story that shows many different things but, one important thing stuck to me from reading this story. Because this story's setting was set around Christmas time, the word "Charity" is mentioned in the story. It made me wonder...is the money or personal sacrifice most important in charity.
A calm,mellow,determined story of a grandmother going to ..........1998-11-16
This story isn't shabby, considering the exposition being a cold, chilly afternoon. The narration is nothing fancy, and there's no mega flashbacks so you can easily follow and feel the emotions and thoughts of this little, old, colored lady with a red hood. Good story.

Customer Reviews:
don't pick this up if you are a hopeless romantic like me.......2007-06-02
i bought this book expecting it to have a good romance in it, but i was wrong, the story is more about the main character and her growing up and blah blah blah,
seriously i dont see how she could have loved him at the end when she never even considered him as someone she might love, it was rediculous, also bryan is the evilist character, it made me sick reading about him and how she used to love him because he was so goodlooking, and he never changed but i guess he did in a way get what he deserved, there were times where i wish she actually went up to bryan and called him on some of the stuff he was doing,
but since he was a prince i guess she couldn't, the only parts i liked of the book were the alioras, really coolly described--not enough romance for me at all, i feel that the lead didn't like that guy as more than a friend, not gonna mention name cause i guess it will ruin it, and she had to be blind not to notice he liked her, and then her sister had that secret thing going on with that other guy, what was that?, pretty random, no scenes of them even talking---o well i wasted my time, i would rather read romance books....
A lovely coming-of-age story in a fantasy setting.......2006-12-17
I wouldn't really classify this book as fantasy or romance. The fantasy world is your typical medieval setting with a slight twist (the aliora) and the romance is a bit perfunctory (the author makes it unclear which man the main character is really interested in until near the fairy-tale ending). However, it is a very nice story of a young woman growing up and realizing the world is much more complicated than she realized. She goes from being a rebellious teenager who enjoys being the wild child to a woman who begins to understand the complicated lives and motives of the people around her, and sees her own responsibilities as well as those of others. Not a "Great Novel", but I liked it a lot.
Good...but not Great.......2006-07-22
Corie enjoys the priveledge of spending her summers at Castle Auburn with the nobility while spending the rest of the years learning to become a wise woman. This story tells of her awakening to the world's unpleasantries and discovering love.
The characters were interesting and the romance enjoyable although predictable. It was nicely wrapped up with feel good ending that made you feel as though the book was worth it. Unfortunately, Sharon Shinn's creation takes place in a world that somehow seems incomplete. Instead of using the creative world, it felt as though aspects were unexplained and had they been fully explored would have created an immensely setting for the simple plot.
Overall, this made for an enjoyable if not riveting read that leaves the reader feeling pleased.
One of my ultimate favorites.......2006-06-14
While enduring the LONG wait for the next Harry Potter book to come out, I went on my bi-weekly trip to the book store to pick out more books to read. After perusing the fantasy sections as I usually did, I hesitantly asked the assistant for help. This book was what she gave me.
In the beginning I was cursing the assistant to all the worst places, however in my determination to finish the book, as I read on I started to get sucked into the plot.
Although a bit shallow in some places, this book changed my life forever after I read it. I recommend this book to anyone who appreciates fiction. And think its an amazing story. I wont give a plot summary because Im sure the other reviewers already did, however I will leave you with this thought . . . this book is a must have on any shelf.
Better Than Archangel series.......2006-02-21
Summers at Castle Auburn is a book that one can read over a number of times before catching all the hints in the story line. After reading many of her other books, I found this one refreshing and sly. I guarantee a good read and the inevitable second, or third read as well.

Book Description
Her code name is Sparta. Her beauty veils a mysterious past and abilities of superhuman dimension -- the product of advanced biotechnology.
World-renowned professor J.Q.R. Forster's expedition to Jupiter's moon has not proven uneventful. In a furious blaze of ice-geysers, the moon's surface rips off to reveal an ancient alien world-ship.
But when the world-ship suddenly hurtles through space toward a black hole, Sparta must find out why, and soon, from a mysterious alien from an unknowable culture, little knowing that what is about to unfold will determine the future of Earth. As the alien ship charts its ancient course, the scheming Sir Randolph Mays and Sparta unwittingly head for their final battle through the eons in the midst of an ancient galactic civil war.
This star-spanning adventure brings together the genius of Arthur C. Clarke and the talents of distinguished science-fiction writer Paul Preuss.
Customer Reviews:
A brilliant if somewhat confusing finale.......2000-06-18
Was quite suprised with this book. Blake and the crew of the "Ventris" are taken on board of the the Worldship that was Amalthea, joining Sparta who had made contact with the alien, Thowintha. The alien entity on board takes them on a journey of knowledge through space and time, which changes many things for them, perceptionally and in Sparta and Blake's case, physically (gills are somewhat handy when living in a vessel that is filled with water). The finale of the book leaves a lot of questions, and you sit back a little thinking, "ok, how?" but typical of Preuss's good work, it is a very enjoyable story.
Book Description
Through interviews with founders and leaders, the author explains and assesses Willow Creek Church and its evangelism-oriented ministry model.
Customer Reviews:
Dated and with a negative slant.......2005-01-19
Pritchard did the work on this book > 10 years ago, and as we all know, any thriving church has had tremendous changes in that time. I agree with other reviewers that he had a biased slant to criticizing Willow Creek, rather than finding the areas to emulate.
Lastly, having been to Willow Creek, Pritchard criticizes the church for its theological content, yet fails to mention or critique their mid-week service. It is unfair to critique the theological depth of a church when looking only at the service intended for seekers (and believers), while missing their mid-week service which is intended for believers.
Having not been to Willow during the time he wrote this book (early 90s), I can assume that this book may have had some validity during that time, but I see little benefit in reading this today. A much better and useful book to understand the seeker movement and gain some practical steps to implement in your church today would be Mark Mittelberg's Building a Contagious Church.
Pritchard quicker to find fault than see benefits.......2005-01-15
Pritchard leans a little bit towards being an armchair quarterback who sits back and criticizes the efforts and motivation of a church that has served America well. He does do a good job of explaining the technical side of how Willow Creek produces a service, but the book is dated and not entirely objective. I felt that at times he missed the heart of the leaders at Willow Creek. Don't judege Willow Creek by this book.
Balanced View on Willow Creek.......2005-01-13
Dr. Pritchard's book on the seeker sensitive movement rightly examines the "mother" of seeker churches in Willow Creek Community Church. Willow Creek seems to be defining church these days along with Saddleback Community Church. Entire denominations have reshaped their methods to adapt to the seeker movement. Is it any wonder than that a book such as this is needed?
Pritchard examines Willow Creek Community Church after attending the church for over a year and having unlimited access to the pastors and staff of the church. He divides his book into two formats. He first gives an insider's view of Willow Creek and their history, philosophy, and practices. He covers Senior Pastor Bill Hybels in-depth. The second section of the book offers a critical review of the church's practices and theology. To be fair, Pritchard is not overtly critical of the church but he does find some faults but I'll leave that to you to read on your own.
A very informative book.......2003-05-01
Beginning in the 1970s, pastor Bill Hybels, and a group of excited young believers began for a new way to "do church." Focusing on the church's duty to evangelize unbelievers, Hybels studied what kept people out of church and what would bring them into church, and they reformatted their church service for these "unchurched Harrys." And now, more than twenty years later, the Hybels' church, Willow Creek, is one of the most influential churches in Evangelical circles and beyond. In 1983, sociologist Dr. Gregory Pritchard examined Willow Creek, how they operate and why, and what they do that is good and what they do that is not so good.
This is a very good book. The first section is a sympathetic look at Willow Creek, which is sure to please supporters and inform those unfamiliar with the Willow Creek way of doing things. The Second section is a critical look at Willow Creek, examining what some of the unintended consequences of the Willow Creek way are. As the author is at pains to point out, every church's modus operandi is bound to have positive consequences and negative unintended consequence, with Willow Creek being no different.
If you are interested in an evenhanded analysis of Willow Creek, then I highly recommend this book to you. Having read it, I now understand a great deal more about this phenomenon.
A Very Balanced Read, Check it Out.......2002-10-18
Of this book, John Armstrong writes, "Before you move your church in the "seeker" direction, be sure to read Pritchard's amazingly fair and truthful analysis. The first two-thirds will tell you what is happening - how and why. The last third will raise all the right questions for those who have a serious theology of the church. Get this book into the hands of everyone you know who is attracted to this philosophy as soon as possible. It might well be used to open eyes before your church is moved in a whole new direction and few bother to ask where they are really going."

Mr. Food Cooks Dessert.......2000-06-22
The perfect gift for the DESSERT LOVER! Easily read and followed recipes for cookies and cakes and breads and muffins...pies...cobblers and frostings..and more! Each page of this 150 book has a recipe on it. It's very reader-friendly. Mr. Food adds a personal comment on the recipe at the top of every page. I also like the size of this hard-covered book (6 1/2 by 9 1/2). It is easily stored in my small kitchen. Favorites in our home are the "no-bake cheesecake" and "impossible chocolate cream pie"! You make it in one bowl, no flour to roll out, easy and FAST and one of the best I have tasted. This cookbook by Mr. Food clearly the best one in my collection.

Lanterns that lit our world.......2007-05-28
Very well put together book. Well organized and written as to be informative and INTERESTING at the same time.
Jo from Australia.......2000-05-21
As Mr. Hobsons girlfriend I find it offencive that someone tried to use me to degrade his name. Tony researched this book for over 2 years. As a person that never knew anything about lanterns I found this book very informative. It was clearly written with pictures that made it very easy to identify lanterns in ones possession. Well done Tony.
where to find a wagonwheel light.......1999-05-04

Lanterns that lit our world .......2007-05-28
Great book . very informative.. Good section on repair and identifiying.
Outstanding!.......2001-06-01
Along with a brief history of American lanterns, Mr. Hobson offers information on the anatomy of lanterns including how they work, identification of parts, materials, finishes and markings. Seventeen different US manufactures and their lanterns are identified and illustrated with detailed specifications. Excellent advice for collectors in locating, identifying and pricing, as well as, repair, restoration and care of lanterns. From a well respected member of lamp and lantern researchers.
Solid basic reference and tutorial on the subject........1999-06-02
This was the first book I bought on this subject, and I found it invaluable as an introduction to early lantern manufacturers and lighting technology. The author clearly explains the different fuels available at different historical periods, and the technologies that utilized them. Contains many very clear reproductions from early catalogs organized by manufacturers in an easy to read reference format. Using the entries here, it is easy to locate the manufacturer, model, relative date of manufacture, and background on most commonly-encountered lanterns. The rarity guide is somewhat lacking in timeliness and should be updated, however. Despite that, I also recommend this author's Book Two as a useful addition and supplement to this book. Advanced collectors would likely be disappointed, but novices and experienced collectors will find this book interesting and informative.

Pretty cool, wish it had a dry erase marker with it and less book. I mainly just wanted the stickers to map out models I do.
Improvement over other similar titiles but..........2006-11-03
I was hoping for something that could be used for our designers and maybe I was looking for to much. I own a Home Decor store along wiht my wife and have tried to use different project planning guides/books. This space planner though well laid out and offering good prompting questions for the non-professional, had little new info. If you are non-computer literate and want to play with a few ideas it may be just fine but rather laborsome to use on a regular basis.

There are lots of good logo's and trademarks in this book. Some not to my liking though. For a person who is not in the graphic arts field and is just looking for ideas to design a logo then I would recommend buying it used or getting one from your library.
