Book Description
Doris Elaine Fell has taken her readers on soul-satisfying journeys to the great European capitals in such books as Always in September and Before Winter Comes. Now this gifted author launches a new book written in the warm, beloved style of Scottish novelist Rosamunde Pilcher and set against the backdrop of one of the most romantic locales in the world.
Contemporary Vienna, the city of romance, intrigue, history, and the world famous Vienna Opera House, has become a haven for classical violinist Kerina Rudzinski. Here she can lose herself in the music she loves and try to escape the secrets she has guarded for twenty-six years. Try though she may, Kerina cannot forget her most painful memories: a hospital room far away, a dearly loved infant wrenched from her arms, and a man whose memory haunts her still.
In the twilight of her career, Kerina is unprepared when a face from the past threatens her carefully shielded emotions. During a long-awaited performance, Kerinas eyes fall on the only person who knows her secrets. Readers who enjoy exciting and unforgettable characters will find Blue Mist on the Danube a refreshing and satisfying experience.

FELL HAS DONE IT AGAIN!.......2000-05-23
Veteran author Doris Elaine Fell has done it again! Blue Mist on the Danube is another powerful testament to the literary talent we've come to admire in her other books. Her sparkling dialogue gets you so absorbed, you feel like you're sitting there with the characters. Her descriptive settings are so masterfully sculpted, you can see the famous landmarks of Vienna, smell and feel the velvety roses. And the story line? From the opening pages, the main character's reflections of the past are so skillfully woven into the scenes, they make the reader keep turning the pages, asking "What's behind this?"
There's mystery, intrigue, and international conspiracy in Blue Mist, all carefully sewn together with threads of romance. It has a wide cast of characters--all with secrets--and its takeaway is forgiveness, making it a powerful, moving, emotive read.

Don't forget the dancing shoes!.......2000-03-29
Vienna, Bosnia, Los Angeles. The past, the present, the future. Alabama, Prague, London. One-two-three, one-two-three. The author waltzes between the glamorous and the mundane and the uplifting like the cadence of a favorite Strauss piece, and most of the time just as quickly.
Hardly a straightforward "boy meets girl" type of romance, halfway through the book I found myself wondering why the publisher labeled it a romance at all, let alone an inspirational one. The central plot concerns two middle-aged women, one a world-renowned Czeckoslovakian concert violinist and the other the American wife of a successful pastor, united by the gifted young man they both call "son."
Through a quirk of fate, the young man isn't the only thing they share. Both women harbor devastating secrets. In fact, everyone involved with this unlikely threesome hides something. Clandestine affairs, aborted babies, terminal illness, stolen art masterpieces, undisclosed occupations, unrequited love, guilt, shame, despair -- a veritable transcontinental Peyton Place.
The very human tendency to refuse to come to grips with past mistakes serves as the villain of Blue Mist on the Danube. We tend to be our own worst critics, and forgiveness -- of others as well as self -- comprises this unusual novel's orchestrated refrain. The unique way in which each character vanquishes this intangible villain I leave you to discover.
True to the tradition of 20th century romantic fiction, the final stanza features a happy, if bittersweet ending. But don't forget a comfortable pair of dancing shoes. As Fell whirls you from the present to the past, and flashbacks within flashbacks, to spin back out to the present and beyond, it makes for a blistering read without them.

Failed not by its vision but by its visage........2005-07-03
Dark, mature, gritty, desperate, sinister, Machiavellian, detailed. All of these words do not describe Blood on the Reik. They do however apply to the world that we were told Blood on the Reik would reveal to us: the world of Warhammer Fantasy. Many of us who are aware of this setting with its rabid fans spread throughout Europe, its dozens of well written novels, its own miniature based fantastically popular war game, and its unique but recognizable world have long searched for a way to introduce our friends to the setting. We have searched for a way to grant them, with but a glance, the same fascination that we have.
Blood on the Reik promised to give us this. It is surely cleverly conceived. It was pitched as a work that will give us the sweeping visuals that have so inspired fans of the Warhammer world, focused on the largest nation of humanity, the glorious Empire. Blood on the Reik is presented not as a work of fiction but as work that might be found within the world of Warhammer. Reik's exterior appears as if it was a folio produced in the halls of Altdorf, capital city of the Empire. Every facet of its exterior oozes the setting. From the exterior inscriptions, comments from the "author" and its claim of having "12 Color Plates and 260 Representations this work is, one the surface, an immersive experience.
Presented as a work by Altdorf resident Tobias Helmgart, an author and traveler who compiled this book during his crossings and experiences throughout the Old World, Blood on the Reik fails to live up to its exterior. This is principally due to the artwork of John Blanche. The aforementioned color "plates" (an anachronistic term for full-color photo) are all his work and are truly vile to behold. The sketches are done, alternatively, by Blanche and long-time Games-Workshop artist David Gallagher. Where we have Gallagher (who to be fair comprises most of them) we have success, where we find Blanche's drawings we find little more than the etchings you might expect on a cave man's wall.
The text, what little there is does pass muster and should be applauded save for the fact that there isn't enough of it.
It's a shame that for many months this was the sole art-book for the Warhammer Fantasy world. Thankfully the recently released Darkness Rising: A Complete History of the Storm of Chaos learned from the mistakes of Blood on the Reik. It has the flavor, the immersive setting, detail, and beautiful artwork. Unless you are a true collector buy it and not this.,
Art book for a cancelled game.......2005-04-04
I'm not sure about the quality of the art book, but the online game was cancelled. The link provided above goes to a page providing that information. The art book, then, is an interesting curio, an "almost was" snapshot of a game killed due to publisher disinterest.
Book Description
You've seen the "Doctor Who" TV series--now experience the original "Doctor Who" novels and audios! This third volume in the I, Who series continues to detail and review the last two years worth of "Doctor Who" novels and audios, with story summaries, top ten lists and a heap of humorous categories. Written by
Lars Pearson (Wizard, ToyFare, InQuest magazines), with a cover by comics superstar
Gene Ha (Top Ten), this book also features an Uber-Timeline that attempts to place more than 450 "Doctor Who" stories (TV, novels and audios) into a single, glorious history.
Customer Reviews:
Excellent Doctor Who novel/audio guide.......2003-07-22
This is the third volume in Lars Pearson's 'I,Who' series of reference books that provides details and reviews of Doctor Who books and audios. It also covers the Bernice Summerfield spin-offs (Bernice or 'Benny' was a companion in the 7th Doctor range of books published by Virgin in the 1990s). I have zero interest in Benny, so I avoid reading those sections. However, the Doctor Who material makes up the bulk of the book and makes it well worth purchasing.
As with Lars' previous volumes, I thoroughly enjoyed this book. I don't always agree with the reviews but I can't deny that they are entertaining. Each synopsis is extremely thorough. I always find myself reading about a book I've already read and being reminded of details I missed the first time around or just plain forgot about.
This is the only series of books available that provide thorough and entertaining reviews of Doctor Who spin-off stories..and thankfully they are so good that there's no point in anyone else trying to publish similar guides. If you are a serious fan of Doctor Who books and/or audios, then these books are an essential purchase. I hope that we see many more volumes in the future.

Paula Deen & Friends Does Live It Up!.......2007-07-14
Hello! I rarely write reviews of the products I purchase online. In fact this is my FIRST, lol! However, this book I feel deserves a write up and I hope it helps buyers out there~ I LOVED the book! I find the recipes well written and easy to follow. Not complicated to cook nor are the ingredients hard to find! MOST IMPORTANT, after making a few of the meals, THEY TASTE FABULOUS! That's what it's all about! The book is written in a very straight forward, down to earth manner with down home southern hospitality thrown in. I cook for a living. I am a foodie! I have over 300 cook books, (YES that other famous one with the peacock guy...) and like that one, this is also one of my favorites, right off the bat; I knew it before I even tried any of Ms Deen's WONDERFUL recipes! There are many "trade" secrets or cooking tips included, if you don't know them already! Many of the recipes are very unusual and unique; not found everywhere! (Now today, that's important with the slew of cookbooks out there!). I suggest you go out and buy this cookbook NOW, AT ONCE, NO QUESTIONS ASKED! You won't be disappointed in it, I feel! Lastly, THANK YOU MS. DEEN for your wonderful book, you are making me FAT! But "never trust a skinny cook" as the saying goes! Scott in New York City. parkslopescott@aol.com
Paula Deen & Friends.......2007-07-09
Fun cookbook and nice reading on the life of Paul Deen and her family. It shows what a warm and friendly person she is. The recipes are also good.
Paul Deen is a good southern cook, but..........2007-06-20
Paula Deen is a good southern cook, but I was a little disappointed with this offering. It doesn't seem to live up to her other products. Maybe it is because that I don't entertain much, and certainly not in a formal way, but this doesn't fit our lifestyle or cooking preferences.
Great menu suggestions.......2007-06-02
This book provides great menus for a variety of entertaining. The recipes are easy to use and are food that is familiar to everyone - nothing so exotic that you have to go to a speciality store to buy it.
HEY YA'LL ! THIS COOKBOOK IS KITCHEN FRIENDLY!.......2007-03-02
If you watch the Food Network, then Paula Deen is no stranger to you. I remember never missing an episode of her show years ago before Paula became so popular. Now, she is everywhere...and deserves every minute of the exposure. Good for her! I still never miss a show; I even like the reruns on Sundays.
Rightfully so, I had to have her cookbooks. Paula is a cook that everyday Americans can relate to. Remember cooking shows on PBS where the cooks always made food with ingredients that they probably never sold in your local supermarket, that is, if you could even afford them? The Food Network has changed that these days, and Paula is at the top of the list for wholesome foods that anyone can make.
Her Living It Up Southern Style cookbook is a quick pick for a fast meal or for party planning. The recipes are easy to understand and easy to plan for. You probably have most of the ingredients already in your pantry. I like the layout of this cookbook too. There's not a lot of reading so the recipes don't get lost. They are also divided by occasion, so it's easy to find what you need if you are looking for suggestions.
Best wishes! Best dishes! And definitely one of Paula's best too!

Edward Giobbi and Richard Wolff's Eat Right, Eat Well--The Italian Way is a collection of 560 tasty Italian dishes written with health in mind. Giobbi, an Italian American artist, contributes the recipes; Wolff, a cardiologist, provides the dietary advice. Nutritional information is listed following each recipe (all counts are given for the whole dish, not for some tiny and unrealistic little serving), and appendices discuss the connection between diet and heart disease, weight loss, exercise, and the like. Hardly a wheat-grass- and brown-rice-pushing health-food treatise, this book is driven by Giobbi's passion for food. Many recipes are framed by his memories of Italy and cooking with friends or by his probing analyses of ingredients. At one point, he goes so far as to list, in order of preference, his eight favorite brands of pasta. The dishes are, for the most part, simple; Pasta Primavera with pine nuts, tomatoes, and arugula is typical fare. If that doesn't strike your fancy, Giobbi offers up more than 90 other pasta dishes--try Rigatoni with Shellfish and Brandy or Pasta with Mushrooms, Asparagus, and Clams. This is food you can make, quickly and in good conscience, that hasn't forgotten that eating is fun. --David Kalil
Book Description
"Ed Giobbi is without question the finest Italian home cook I know. This is an inspired book and the fact that it involves diet is only a bonus."
--Craig Claiborne
Here is the celebrated cookbook that has won praise from home cooks and food critics everywhere--a superb collection of 560 healthful recipes that are, first and foremost, absolutely delicious. Every one of these marvelous dishes reflects the mouthwatering flavors and robust textures of the everyday Italian cooking that Edward Giobbi grew up on and loves. And every recipe follows the guidelines prescribed by the eminent cardiologist Dr. Richard Wolff to reduce both fat and cholesterol. The result is a wonderfully wide-ranging, imaginative array of recipes so utterly delectable and satisfying that no one will ever suspect they're "diet" dishes.
Everything is here for delightful, healthy eating, day by day:
¸ soups both delicate and hardy
¸ more than ninety robust pasta dishes
¸ luscious seafood recipes
¸ some fifty chicken dishes alone
¸ lean meats of all descriptions, from scallopini to venison
¸ over one hundred glorious melanges of fresh vegetables, straight from the garden
¸ dozens of flavorful sauces that use herbs and nuts, peppers and garlic, instead of butter and cream
¸ country breads, pizzas, and turnovers
¸ delectable desserts, from fresh fruit sorbet to tarts
Because our understanding of diet, fat, and cholesterol has changed since the first edition of this book, the authors have revised and updated every recipe, as well as the breakdown of fats and cholesterol that accompanies each (for those who want to keep count). The result is an invaluable cookbook for the health-conscious--and for lovers of good food everywhere.

Look Elsewhere for Light Recipes.......2004-01-11
I bought this book used and, after having read through it thoroughly, have come to the conclusion it would be overpriced at 50 cents. Almost every recipe calls for hard to find ingredients. Many are neither low fat nor low carb. A few recipes even call for deep frying. Unlike every other cookbook that provides nutritional information, this one gives the calorie/fat/carb counts for the entire recipe, not just a single serving.
Also, the "witty anecdotes" from the author (which were one of the things I was really looking forward to) come across as very pompous and self-agrandizing. Mr. Giobbi finds fault with everything from the spelling of broccoli rab to the poor quality of chickens available in local stores.
An absolute waste of money.
A whole new world of Italian food!.......2001-07-19
This cookbook has opened our eyes to "Real Italian"! My husband and I bought this book only a week ago and have already made at least 10 recipes all of which have been delicious! Everything is light, fresh and suprisingly fullfilling. Giobbi shares delightful stories and his knowledge about the recipes he's altered from fattier versions (southern Italy) or collected in his travels from people and places. Wolff fills us in on all the health info you need to know about being healthy, calories, fat, cholesterol and how it relates to these recipes etc. What was amazing to me is all this time I thought I knew great Italian food here in America and I come to find out that most of our "Italian" food has been Americanized....now that I know the difference (and there definitely is one!) I don't know if I'll ever be able to eat Italian food outside MY kitchen ever again!
Excellent Italian fare with a healthy heart in mind........1999-10-09
In Eat Right, Eat Well, -The Italian Way, Ed Giobbi and Richard N. Wolff, M.D. team up to show that excellent Italian cuisine is not incompatable with healthful eating. I have had the pleasure of using this book for several years, and continue to be delighted with the recipies, advice and memories of Mr. Giobbi. Many people who think that Italian food is heavy and laden with olive oil, butter, eggs, cream, or cheeses will have their eyes opened by this splendid book. This is not simply a "heart healthy" book, it is a first rate cookbook with little or no compromise in the recipies. We have repeatedly returned to the pasta primavera recipies. The true pasta primavera is not the cream/flour paste/overcooked vegetables mishmash usually served in most resturaunts today. This is a combination of raw peeled and crushed tomatoes (we take ours right off the vine in our back yard, but purchased from the local roadside stand will suffice) fresh basil ( as many handsful that you can manage) garlic, salt, pepper, and a splash of olive oil (1 or 2 tablespoons is more than enough for flavoring and feeds 3 to 4 people) tossed with freshly cooked pasta. We often saute whatever veggies we have at hand in the olive oil and skip the oil in the sauce. The heat of the pasta warms the sauce. This is truly the best of Italian cuisine; taking advantage of what is fresh NOW, cooked as little as possible to avoid masking the flavors, and served combined to maximize the harmony of fresh flavors, textures, and aromas. We find that the zest and juice of a lemon enhances the flavors. A bit of fine parmesean or romano cheese ( a bit is allowed, and the recommendations regarding fat and calorie counts is included in an expansive appendix, as well as nutritional breakdowns for each dish) and you have a meal that certainly doesn't taste like you're on a diet. The book was written to help those with heart disease, or those wishing to avoid heart disease, to eat a better diet without sacrificing taste or enjoyment. The collaboration works well, and the dietary information is sound. The book does not get preachy, and does not sacrifice taste for theory, as is true in too many "diet" books or "heart healthy" books. Mr. Giobbi's assertion is that true Italian cooking, as practiced in Italy, is usually consonant with good eating practices for heart health. In America, Italian cooking has been co-opted, fattened up, and generally made unrecognizable. Fresh ingredients, emphasis on not overcooking, and harmonizing flavors is the essence of this cuisine. Once you taste the real primavera, you will never go back again. I haven't found a bum recipe yet. Enjoy!!

Book Description
The author tells you everything you need to know to make attractive, functional earthenware in this fine book. More than sixty photographs show each step described as well as many finished items. These, plus descriptions of ancient pottery types from the Anasazi to Guatemala, provide a great number of ideas for primitive pottery projects. There is a glossary of terms and a list of references.
Evard starts by describing what clay is used and how to find it. He then describes preparing the clay for use, discusses reasons and techniques for adding temper and illustrates how to make pots using all techniques. Finishing and decorating the green pot are described and illustrated, followed by a detailed discussion of primitive firing techniques. Evard then tells how to cook a meal outdoors in a pot you have made yourself. A great book for anyone into primitive arts or survival skills.

Delightful.......2007-10-10
Pagaing through this oversized coffee-table book is a delight.
It contains over 800 pages with more than 1300 beautifully colored photographs supplemented with black-and-white pen-and-ink drawings.
The book contains photos not only of furniture of three centuries of styles in several European countries, but also the interiors in which the furniture is placed. And the text material focuses on the aesthetic and stylistic aspects as well as the historical aspects.
This enjoyable book is one of the best of its kind that I have seen, and I recommend it to all readers interested in interior decoration. It is well worth the price.
The collaborating authors have done a truly fantastic job.
Comprehensive.......2006-02-10
This is a well written book in light of the fact there are different authors for each section. Beware that this book's focus is on Europe--there is no discussion of America or other places outside of Europe. One thing that struck me was the vastness of the furniture world. For example, Chippendale and Hepplewhite each warrant no more than a few paragraphs.
One thing that I found annoying was the focus on the pinnacle of furniture making. I am more interested in furniture owned by average folks, not the crazy over-the-top stuff of royalty. I've never had a client request a bedroom in the the style of Louis the XVI because it would take an army of craftsmen and millions of dollars to recreate the bedroom.
The book has several chapters on interiors. These discussions are nice but again, the focus is on the pinnacle of interior design.
I was disappointed about the discussion of Art Nouveau. The author, Ornella Selvafolta, spends many pages discussing painting and architecture. This discussion did not contribute to what I wanted to know--i.e. furniture design. The same thing goes for the section on Art Deco which was authored by Selvafolta also.

Customer Reviews:
A book that is impossible to put down.......2007-05-31
I read it in 3 days. Just a great book (I don't think I would make it as a professional reviewer)!
Too Many Words Too LIttle Honesty.......2006-11-20
I love biographies and I loved the Donny and Marie show as a kid. I thought I would really like this book, but it was very poorly written. It is amazing to me the Donny Osmond had the help of a professional.
Donny spent so much of the book defending the actions of his obviously controlling father, a situation so common when children become entertainers. The book did not come across as real. He spent too much time trying to spare everyone's feelings. He spent too much time talking about how great his family was when they very clearly weren't.
There didn't need to be dirt, but it seems the author still has not come to terms with his family situation while growing up. I hope he writes a more honest book some day when he is older.
Best Autobiography ever.......2004-02-10
As much as I followed the Osmond Family careers, I read this hoping to find all the rumors to be false. It opened my eyes to how it really was for him in the limelight.
Glad to have the MAN back......the little boy grew up.
Very Spiritual, inspiring........2002-01-14
You do not need to be a Donny Osmond fan, or an Osmond fan for that matter to appreciate the message in this book.
Read this book, and learn about the Osmond's strength in their spiritual beliefs; learn about Donny's severe social anxiety dissorder, and how he copes with it.
I strongly recomend this book!!
Not an Osmond fan but loved the book.......2001-09-08
...While I will probably never be a fan of the music I really enjoyed the book. I think there are some important lessons here regarding raising children in the entertainment industry. Lesson #1 - Don't do it! Frankly I am a bit surprised that he did not end up another casualty of child celebrity or head into dark places like his friend Michael Jackson. I was most impressed with Osmond's honesty and candor. His handling of his devastating career collapse as well as his social phobia really make for good reading. Somehow I suspect we haven't seen the end of Donny Osmond. Even if you run screaming whenever "Puppy Soldier of Love" comes on you may still enjoy the book. I certainly did.
