Great mindless fun.......2004-11-16

I have enjoyed all the books by Rick Cook. This is a little weak compared to the rest but still enjoyable.

Who say's we can't have technology and magick?? Well who ever did didn't tell Rick Cook that. This book was a spectacular blend of modern day technology and renaissance day's of magick. Rick Cook also did a excelent job in keeping the tecnology / fantasy magick alive that made you believe that it just might be possible, even in today's skepticism.

5th book in the Wizardry series ties up a few loose ends........1997-01-03

The action is back in this addition to the series. Cook lampoons dungeon adventures, screen savers, and Comdex while tying up some loose ends from The Wizardry Cursed. A fun read that I didn't want to end

Excellent work on Asian leaders in this century........2000-06-11

The authors take ten Asian leaders from five countries (China, Indonesia, India, Cambodia and Vietnam)and studies their lives and their leadership qualities. After a wonderful introduction of each country the authors attempt to answer such questions as: What motivates people? Is their an "Asian" way to lead? What makes a leader good or bad? Often in each country they take leaders of opposite viewpoints such as Diem and Ho Chi Minh in Vietnam. Diem was the Anti-Communist leader of South Vietnam and Minh was the communist leader of North Vietnam. The book also looks into why people follow certain brutal leaders such as Mao and Pol Pot. It looks at the establishing of personality cults and how the leader used that to his advantage.

This is one of my favorite cookbooks I own. I have had success with every recipe I have tried so far. The menu suggestions are great. She even gives suggestions for leftovers! LOVE IT!

Entertaining made simple.......2007-04-18

I love to entertain and I do it just about every weekend whether it's entertaining family or friends. Usually I like to make up my own appetizers or entrees but when I ran across this book I had to buy it. I would have to say some of these recipes might be scary for a first time cook but a lot of them are easy to follow and so great to look at. If you love to entertain then I highly reccommend this cookbook for you.

I love this book.......2007-03-23

This is a book I keep reaching for when entertaining. I've made many of the recipes and they've all been just great. It's set up so that there are main recipes and then lots of other variations. She also suggests appetizers and sides. It really makes for effortless entertaining. It's an especially great book if you are a bit new to entertaining or nervous about it.

need more vegetarian entrees.......2007-01-16

I love the way this book is organized. There are tips for each dish: when to serve it, what to serve it with, how well it saves over time etc. My only complaint is that there were really no vegetarian entrees. I don't know about you, but every time I have a dinner party, there is bound to be a vegetarian in the crew. This book was much more meat and potatoes. I therefore have yet to cook from it, although I'd like to if I get different friends.

Terrific book.......2006-12-09

I love this book. It has become a real 'go to' when I'm having guests but haven't the luxury of time to spend planning or cooking. I've picked up some great ideas for everyday cooking as well. I enjoy cooking and cookbooks and this is at the top of my list in the Entertaining category. Definitely some great recipes and tips here.

Much more than a cookbook.......2000-08-19

Homesick for Texas, and all those good eats? This is the book for you. It is much more than a cookbook, it is a piece of Texas to be read and savored. Having eaten at all the locations of Threadgill's and having spent many (too many, according to my college transcript) at Armadillo World Headquarters, opening this book was like a trip back home. Sure, there are the receipes for all the Threadgill's classics, including all the vegetable dishes. Sure you can try to make the wonderful chicken fried steak, but intertwined in all those recepies is the history of Threadgills, and the people who were there. You learn the thinking behind the place many called home, you remember the brand names of products that made Texas cooking great. You also get a bird's eye view of the Texas music scene and all the colorful people who inhabited that time and place. Threadgill's kept me from getting too homesick when I left Dallas, and moved to Austin. This book keeps me from getting too homesick for home.

Eat your vegetables!.......1999-09-18

Hands down, the greatest cookbook ever written (take that, Better Homes & Gardens!). If you've never been to Threadgill's, you've never truly experienced the bounty of God's green earth - but you can get a fantastic taste of it with this book. I cook something from this book almost every day, which may not mean I'm the healthiest soul alive, but I sure get my veggies! If you thought a down-home cookbook was just a bunch of artery-clogging recipes for fried vegetables, you're only 10% right. In addition to fabulous recipes, this cookbook is actually an entertaining book to sit down and read! Trust me, it will find its way to that revered shelf in your bookcase that's reserved for the family Bible and the baby books. Yee hah!

A taste of home.......1999-04-06

As someone who moved from Austin to Washington, DC years back---and whose friends still ask me why, I don't have an answer. But I can tell you one of the things I miss is Eddie Wilson and Threadgill's. It's not fancy, it's not meant to be, but as Eddie says "This is not a lobster taco". This isn't fancy food, this is just good food, something you could eat every day, something that doesn't require an engineering degree to assemble and a degree in civil engineering to balance on the plate.

This past haunt of Janis Joplin is a true Austin institution. And, so is it's food. But don't expect recipes similar to the Lutece cookbook or Cooking with the Master Chefs. These are master chefs of the home grown type. Their chickenfried steak with cream gravy is well, artery clogging delicious. The recipes are simple to follow, the ingredients are few and the taste fabulous. And, the narrative relays some great memories of Threadgill's. I've enjoyed cooking these dishes for other expatriated Texans and we're in heaven!

This is simply a continuation of Price Guide No.1 that takes you through 2001. It's a must have for MTH collectors to identify individual trains and sets. Guide No. 1 offered photographs, while this guide doesn't. The introductory pages make for some good reading and some good insights into the toy train market in 2001.

Celebration of Gingerbread.......2005-07-13

This book consists of high-quality black-and-white photographs printed in a full- or half-page size. Most of the photos concentrate on close-up details of the wooden ornamentation, and most of the photos were taken in upstate New York (truly a wonderland of gingerbread). The photos are so sharp and striking, I was reminded of the architectural photography of Walker Evans and Paul Strand. The brief text is informative and charmingly subjective. For instance, I have long admired the workmanship and beauty of this American folk art, but it had never occurred to me to see the sexual suggestiveness in some of the motifs, as pointed out by the author. The book is a revised version of "Wood Motifs in American Domestic Architecture/'Phantasy in Wood,' " first published in 1966. I hope the lovely examples shown in this book have been preserved since then. This is an important work of documentary photography.

Cuando parecia que los diseñadores hispano hablantes estabamos condenados a leer solamente manuales tecnicos, "libros de fotos"y uno que otro libro mal traducido alguien con buen criterio se compromete al publicar un material que vale la pena.

Many people know Dave Broadfoot (a.k.a. Sergeant Renfrew of the Mounties, a.k.a. the Member for Kicking Horse Pass, a.k.a. Big Bobby Clobber), but not many know much about his life. Arriving in Toronto in 1952, virtually penniless, he set out to find work – any work – just as CBC-TV was going on the air and Canadian show-business was taking off. He was hired to perform in the yearly Spring Thaw revue, a hotbed of youthful talent, and a comedy career was launched.

A life in show-business – especially in Canada – is not easy and it encourages the multi-talented. Dave Broadfoot has always not only written and performed his own material, but, when work did not immediately appear, has produced and staged his own revues – a sometimes frustrating, sometimes hilarious education in logistics and human nature.

Dave Broadfoot’s career has also paralleled much of the growth of Canadian show-business. Among many other shows and revues, he was a cast member on the Wayne and Schuster show (witnessing the complex relationship between the two great comics), he appeared regularly on the children’s TV show that became Razzle Dazzle, and he was in the revue that launched the Charlottetown Festival. In the early 1970s came the show that would influence his next 20 years and create Canadian comedy history. The Royal Canadian Air Farce, a radio show that was taped in front of a live audience, gave its first performance on December 9, 1973. It is still running – but without Dave Broadfoot as a regular. Despite his admiration and affection for the show and its cast, he decided to leave in 1989, and here, for the first time, he explains why. He performs regularly, and throughout 2001–02 he has toured with his latest one-man show, Dave Broadfoot: The First Farewell Tour.

His incredible energy, his good-nature, his quick wit, and above all his comic gift, have made Dave Broadfoot a household name. This book, peppered throughout with photographs and some of his favourite scripts, is a wonderful way to mark the fiftieth anniversary of an extraordinary career.
