ALL THE PRETTY HORSES
The first volume of the Border Trilogy–tells of young John Grady Cole, the last of a long line of Texas ranchers. Across the border Mexico beckons–beautiful and desolate, rugged and cruelly civilized. With two companions, he sets off on an idyllic, sometimes comic adventure, to a place where dreams are paid for in blood.
THE CROSSING
In the late 1930’s, sixteen-year-old Billy Parham captures a she-wolf that has been marauding his family’s ranch. But instead of killing it, he decides to take it back to the mountains of Mexico. With that crossing, he beings an arduous and often dreamlike journey into a country where men meet like ghosts and violence strikes as suddenly as heat-lightening–a world where there is no order "save that which death has put there."
CITIES OF THE PLAIN
It is 1952 and John Grady Cole and Billy Parham are working as ranch hands in New Mexico, not far from the proving grounds of Alamogordo and the cities of El Paso and Juarez. Their life is made up of trail drives and horse auctions and stories told by campfire light. They value that life all the more because they know it is about to change forever.

Brad Pitt a Poor Reader.......2006-09-23
Buy the other, the All The Pretty Horses alone, with reader Muller (sp?) Frank. Brad Pitt does a very poor job, and I was amazed how poor. He hardly seems like a trained actor. He badly mispronounces Spanish (pronounces 'jefe' as 'jeffy')and his reading is like something a grade-school child would produce. He carries the question tone over to the 'he said' in interrogative sentences and does not change voice tone from one speaker to another. He sounds like a slacker who has been forced to read a high-school composition. This guy is an actor?
And the abridgement ruins the stories in all three novels.
Now I have to go back and buy the other because I love ATPH very much and want to hear it read by someone who has had voice training and a good voice.
excellent abridged version of McCarthy's work.......2005-01-16
Cormac McCarthy is undoubtedly one of the best American writers alive today. This is precisely why I purchased one of his works for my first venture into the "books on tape" world. I feared that hearing his works read to me my a Hollywood actor would diminish its impact, but I am happy to report that Brad Pitt does a good job of keeping the spirit and humor of his writing up to par. There are, however, times when he seems bored with the task as his voice takes on a particularly lullaby-like quality, so be sure to keep a cup of coffee handy if listening while driving!
I have read all of these novels before so I was familiar with the stories. The abridgement did cut out some of my favorite passages (especially in the Crossing) where McCarthy embarks on a style parade worthy of Fitzgerald's or Faulkner's attention.
My wife and I listened to the stories while traveling through the Southwest, and it was a delight to experience the landscape through the eyes of the stories. If you are planning a cross country drive or a long drive through the New Mexico-Arizona-West Texas area, I cannot recommend enough these books on tape as travel companions!

A good Resource.......2007-04-17
I have I & II now. This follows the same format as 1 but has descriptions of each creature. The Art is still B&W. I have become very spoiled with all the color WOTC puts in to its products. The Art is good for the most part. My other complaint is there are too many water creatures. I have been playing for 30 years now and have only met 1/2 dozen water creatures. I think they can just stop with them already. They are a waste of space.
The Big pluses are the Templates, new monster feats and some planar info on where some of these monsters might hail from. All in all the extra info makes up for the wasted space. Some of the Devils and Demons are cool as well as some new undead and some new SU/SA abilities.
I want to see more Epic level stuff.
Well-done beastiary with just a few flaws.......2004-05-07
Published by Necromancer Games, which promises 3rd edition playability with a 1st edition feel, this book delivers on almost all fronts. Even the art has a cast of the old Fiend Folio to it, though just updated enough to not seem out-of-place or old-fashioned next to it's contemporaries.
The monsters all fit cozily into various niches of various kinds of campaigns. Really, there were very few monsters where I thought, "Where the heck would you even meet up with something like that?", and in most cases where the ecology wasn't clear, the critter was undead or an elemental, both monster types that don't necessarily mesh realistically into a campaign world.
The write-ups were clear and concise and, for the most part, accurate. It wasn't perfect, though, and so it doesn't get five stars. It'd get four-and-a-half if I could swing it, but . . .
DMs, buy this book. Surprise your players with brand-new monsters that feel like you've met them before. Highly recommended.

Enter the futuristic city of Cybernetica. A civilization where all thoughts are influenced by a widespread brain-to-computer interface system called sublimation. Short for 'subliminal animation', its technology has the power to regulate actions, and thereby events, through the surgically implanted brain matrix of every human being under its control. Here is a world of virtual reality and dangerous techno wars. A futuristic look into the next generation of computer hacking, where biology itself is the battleground.
Welcome to cyberspace...
Two conmen hired in a major investigation. A famous actress marked for corporate assassination. One biologically enhanced bodyguard wrangled by a moral dilemma. In a future where life is controlled by cybernetics, the convergence of these four paths will lead to a reckoning between factions vying for global power.
All of future decided by the matrix...
Thirty-five years after the devastating Encryption Wars, the rise of sublimation from the city of Cybernetica has left a criminal subculture brewing--those who fall outside its technological parameters of control. Now, following the first successful attack in its cyberspace, a group of insurgents called the drifters are aiming to destroy and recreate the very civilization it supports. In a world of covert wars, corporate dealings, and government corruptions, there are but few who not only hold the fate of the future... but the secrets of the past.

Loved It!.......2007-09-16
This is some hard core science fiction! The details were extremely technical, but obviously well understood by the author because he did a very good job of making it easy and fun to read. I loved the idea of this world that has evolved in the story and was unable to set it aside until I found out how it all ended. Very well done, and for all science fiction fans, a must read!
Balance of power.......2007-02-01
Reviewed by Leslie Granier for Reader Views (1/07)
"Cybernetica" is a futuristic novel that depicts a city unlike anything that exists today. It begins with two men, Jake Radigan and Billy Hawkins, attempting to steal a man's vehicle by deceiving him. However, it turns out this man knew their intentions and had a huge surprise in store for them. He knew of Jake's past experience as a stringer and coerced him into helping him with an assignment. Jake and Billy have a condition known as blindsight and are therefore basically considered outcasts in their society. In this society, everyone is monitored through sublimation, which is a computer network that tracks their thoughts and their movements. There is imminent war and one faction known as the drifters is suspected of having interfered with the network that controls sublimation.
Those in power are obviously not pleased since their ability to monitor their citizens is no longer as effective. So Jake and Billy agree to find out what is going on and to try to end it. Along the way, they face many exciting and dangerous adventures in their quest to learn the truth. There are also many surprises about who is really behind what is happening in "Cybernetica." This book really got me thinking about both the wonders and the dangers of technology. In this instance, people lost all of their freedoms when the technologies available were used for the wrong reasons. Just because technology is at our disposal doesn't mean it is right to use it. It is also important to never let one group or individual get too much power or there may be no turning back without a major incident occurring.
One suggestion for the author is to have this book proofread again. There were far too many misspelled words as well as extra words that should not have been there at all. I did find this to be somewhat distracting.
"Cybernetica" is a book that gives readers a clear warning about maintaining a balance of power. In many ways society is better off with less technology. It is pretty scary to think that in the future our thoughts and actions will be able to be controlled and that by the time we realize it, it may be too late.
Excellent science fiction full of action and suspense.......2006-11-18
"Cybernetica" is a fast paced science fiction novel. The author Michael J. Cavallaro incorporated all of the elements of a good story into one action packed adventure. He incorporates science fiction, suspense, technology, espionage, and of course his character development is excellent. I was able to jump right into the story. His descriptions of the places and events happening are very well written. I could "see"
what he was writing.
The story takes place in the future when the government has managed to sneak its way into our minds through a technological process referred to as "Sublimation." People who are unable to be affected by this technology are said to have "Blindsight." They live on the fringe because the government cannot touch their minds.
I loved how the science fiction technology gets incorporated into the thriller/espionage aspects of the story taking the plot to a higher level. The characters have extra abilities. The corporate and
government corruption are also all taken to a higher level because of the additional capabilities brought about by the technology that is included in the story. I highly recommend this novel to science fiction fans
and to espionage fans who are looking for something "a little more" in their stories.

Michael Cavallaro's debut a big success.......2006-04-11
I just finished Michael Cavallaro's first novel, Cybernetica. It is a fast-moving, thoroughly engaging novel. The story was enticing and interesting, creating both an "inner" and an "outer" landscape into which the reader is enveloped as the story progresses. In this way, it reminded me of a kind of mixture of a 21st century Blade Runner (an outer landscape with interesting appeals to all the senses) and the Matrix (an inner landscape involving cyber realities and machinations leading to moments of surprise and revelation).
It really was an enjoyable novel, the kind that takes you away for the time you are amongst the pages; and the kind which you find yourself re-visiting as daydreams in the time before re-opening the pages. I would recommend to anyone, not just sci-fi fans. I'm looking forward to his next work.
A remarkably gripping, vivid, and intimate depiction of future people's lives and conspiracies.......2006-04-11
Cybernetica by writer and editor Michael J. Cavallaro, is an original science fiction novel depicting the possibilities, if not probabilities, of a futuristic concept of technological mind control. Providing the read with an intricate and enthralling plot, Cybernetica tells of the intertwining stories of the assassination of a famous actresses, a couple of con-artist paired together for an important investigation, an "in-book" of modern technology which enables neurotransmissons to communicate with computer interfaces, and the ethical issues of a biologically enhanced bodyguard. Engaging its readers from the very beginning with an ever-intriguing plot, Cybernetica is very highly recommended to all readers with an interest in science-fiction for a remarkably gripping, vivid, and intimate depiction of future people's lives and conspiracies.

Searching for the Gospel Truth.......2001-01-13
Sanders and Davies survey the entire field of Gospel scholarship.
When they finish weighing and sifting the various theories and
methodologies, they come away with some striking conclusions.
Although these conclusions do not always accord with the weight of
scholarly authority, they are always well-reasoned and well-defended.
Sanders and Davies state the Synoptic Problem, and then analyze the
various theoretical solutions. Then they address form criticism,
redaction criticism, and Gospel genres. Finally they embark upon a
quest for the historical Jesus.
The analysis of the Synoptic Problem
is particularly good. Each theory is studied in detail, its strong
and weak points weighed and assessed, and a final judgment
passed. They finally settle upon a modified form of the Goulder
hypothesis, sometimes known as Mark without Q. Of the currently
fashionable literature on the reconstruction of Q, they say:
"This work is mostly of curiosity value, since it shows how far a
hypothesis can be pushed despite its lack of fundamental
support."
The middle sections on the various types of criticism
and Gospel genre are not as good, the analysis being turgid and
sometimes opaque, but they redeem themselves when they go questing for
the historical Jesus. They "cross examine" the Gospels,
using four precise tests for historicity. The four tests put one in
mind of the Jesus Seminar's "seven pillars of scholarly
wisdom". The Jesus Seminar's seven pillars are not nearly as
well-conceived nor as well-applied as Sanders and Davies' four tests.
The conclusions Sanders and Davies draw at the end of their quest are
astonishingly circumspect when compared to the findings of most
contemporary questers after the historical Jesus.

A Good Introductory Work on the Synoptic Problem.......2007-08-28
Studying the Synoptic Gospels serves as an introduction to the study of source criticism, form criticism, and redaction criticism of the Gospels. It is not intended to be a primer on exegesis or general hermeneutics of the Gospels, but to teach how they were formed, what components were involved in their construction, and how the distinctive theologies of the evangelists can be determined.
Stein writes his book serving "as an introduction and a work manual" (13) and it sufficiently accomplishes both. The work is comprised of three major divisions: (1) The Literary Relationship of the Synoptic Gospels, (2) The Preliterary History of the Gospel Traditions, and (3) The Inscripturation of the Gospel Traditions. The first section, which is nearly half the book, deals with literary or source criticism. It seeks to answer the questions posed by the Synoptic Problem. What is the literary relationship between Matthew, Mark, and Luke? Which Gospel was written first? Which Gospels are dependent upon other Gospels? Et cetera. Ultimately, he argues that there is interdependence within the gospel tradition (chapter 1), that Mark was written first (chapter 2), and that Matthew and Luke independently used Q (chapter 3). Though there are some problems with this paradigm (chapter 4), the solution to the Synoptic Problem is best found in the two-source theory (chapter 5). He also discusses the value of source criticism (chapter 6).
The second major division deals primarily with form criticism. Stein first addresses the rise and presuppositions of form criticism (chapter 7), then the general reliability of the transmission of oral traditions (chapter 8), as well as discussing the value of form criticism.
The third and final section covers redaction criticism. Here the author elaborates on the rise of redaction criticism (chapter 10), its method and practice (chapter 11), and its value (chapter 13).
Stein addresses the order in which one should perform source criticism, form criticism, and redaction criticism, but notes that there is not a clear-cut order because they all interrelate at different points (243-244).
There are a number of factors that make Stein's work very helpful to the student. The back of the book contains a glossary with over forty frequently used terms like, "ipsissima verba," "pericope" and "Sitz im Leben." But the glossary plays only a minor role. There are also many figures and charts. The charts depict the synoptic parallels in a helpful line-by-line comparison, which makes it easier to compare the texts. Not only do the charts exist for visual aid, but they are intended to be used as an exercise for the students to do hands-on work with the parallel passages following Stein's color-coded methodology (29-30). The table of contents is also neatly formatted, outlining both major and minor sections for reference. Additionally, at the end of nearly every chapter is a conclusion or summary of the discussion designed to solidify the material (46-47, 94-96, 119-123, 141-142, 152, 169,193-194, 216-221, and 279).
One aspect of this book that can be viewed both positively and negatively is the fact that it is based on the English text of the Gospels rather than the Greek. The obvious advantage is that is accessible to a larger audience. Students who are not trained in the Greek can utilize this as a textbook. Since Stein uses the Revised Standard Version (RSV), the more literal nature RSV makes the parallel passages easier to compare. It was a smart move for the author to retain the RSV rather than use the more popular updated versions such as the NIV and NRSV that are less literal (and thus harder for synoptic comparisons). Yet how useful is such a book like this to people who have not studied Greek? Obviously one cannot truly engage in such matters as redaction criticism without a good grasp of the Greek text. Yet Stein does refer to Greek words every now and then when he deems it necessary to make specific claims about the text. Nevertheless, I think that the English text is appropriate because Stein is not seeking to train redaction critics, but to get students' feet wet in the disciplines of these criticisms. Ultimately, the English text is helpful because it helps the reader quickly move through the text to get the big picture of what is happening. After one reads Stein's book and is interested in the various disciplines of Gospel study they can study the Greek text of the Gospels for themselves. After all, this book is merely an introduction to such matters.
There are several theories that take a stab at solving the Synoptic Problem that the author does not address. This should be understood as an advantage. The book does not intend to describe a thorough history of the Synoptic Problem and reference to the countless solutions would only bog down the reader. He does deal in greater detail with the Griesbach hypothesis and the two-source hypothesis (to which he subscribes). More interaction with the Farrer theory would have been a welcome addition to this book with its recent advocates like Mark Goodacre (yet even this second edition is already five years old). Stein also writes in a non-technical manner and includes a healthy dose of redundancy, both of which contribute to accessibility of the work.
Throughout Studying the Synoptic Gospels, Stein generally writes with a pragmatic approach. He does not get so caught up with the theoretical that he loses touch with real world matters when approaching the issues. Along this vein, he also questions the limits to which some have taken Q: "In light of the hypothetical nature of the Q source, the wisdom of various attempts to do redaction-critical work on the theology of the Q document or on the Q community must be questioned" (121).
He acknowledges that it is "impossible to know what was going through the mind of Luke when he wrote and why he might have omitted this or that account from his Gospel" (112). He similarly states: "We can never reconstruct with certainty the mental activity of the Evangelist when he wrote his Gospel" (147). This is an important point since so much of source criticism is based on the intentions of the Gospel writers, especially Matthew and Luke.
On the other hand, there are times when biases come to the forefront of the text. When discussing the Griesbach hypothesis Stein emphatically states that it is impossible for Mark and Luke to have changed Matthew's text ("Why do you ask me about what is good?") to Mark's ("Why do you call me good?") (146-147). This seems strange in light of his earlier comment that it is impossible to know the mind of the Evangelist.
In the end, the book stands out as a fine introduction to such matters. The book's order is nicely organized, and the student is not lost--even though there are some difficult concepts to grasp. Ultimately, Stein encourages the students and reminds them of the importance of such pursuits with quotes like the following: "Thus for many scholars, especially in the nineteenth century, the solution to the Synoptic Problem was a prerequisite for a proper study of the life of Jesus" (154).
A mid-level text with immense value.......2006-03-30
Stein, perhaps as well as anyone in the field, shows a mastery of the critical issues surrounding the gospels. The breadth of the topics he hits - Markan priority and source criticism, form criticism, redactional patterns - somehow manages to achieve depth.
Readers will find his parallel text layouts helpful. His readings are stretching at times (e.g. he believes that Matthew redacts Jesus' teaching on the lost sheep to be a parable for the church, which gives us an example of inspired hermeneutics).
The second edition is almost identical to the first. While a couple minor mistakes still slip through, this should be seen as a first-rate resource for the teacher, pastor, and student.
Packed with useful information.......2001-08-12
Dr. Stein has provided an excellent source for the study of the synoptic gospels. He writes in an easy-to-understand manner while still providing a great amount of detail. There are several useful charts and diagrams, and the parallel synoptic passages are written in neat, vertical columns for easy cross referencing.
The first section of this book discusses the literary relationship of the synoptic gospels. After establishing the clear literary dependence between the synoptics, Stein provides a very compelling argument for the priority of Mark and its subsequent utilization as a source for Matthew's and Luke's gospels. Those unfamiliar with Markan priority will learn a great deal from this section. The existence of Q as a written work is the next topic tackled. Objections to Markan priority and the existence of Q are handled well.
The second section covers form criticism and the oral transmission of the gospel materials prior to their use in written form. This area will again be very informative to those new to the topic. In the final section, Dr. Stein discusses redaction criticism and its applicability to hermeneutics. Stein comes from a conservative theological background, so I'm sure some conservative readers may be questioning whether or not critical scholarship is of any use. Clearly the author believes that it is, and I would agree. As for the issue of biblical authority, Stein believes that although Matthew and Luke used Mark as a source, and also that they altered their source in some cases, Matthew and Luke provide an inspired interpretation of Mark in those parallel passages where one writer differs from another.
This is an excellent resource for anyone interested in studying the relationship between the synoptic gospels. I know I'll be referring to it for a long time.

Smooth as glass, but more digestible.......2005-09-13
For Love and Money is an entertaining example of "matron lit," one of the latest sub-genres in women's fiction. Protagonist Annie Custer is married, but unhappily so. Her best friend, Carol, is dealing not only with a neglectful husband but forgetful parents who stubbornly refuse to turn over their hoarded stock certificates to the safety of a brokerage account.
Now Carol has secured her parents' reluctant agreement and begs Annie, a top-notch stockbroker, to travel to their home and pick up the certificates in person. It's a trip which Annie realizes will take her beyond the boundaries of the strictly ethical and possibly jeopardize her career. As if that weren't enough on her plate, Annie's husband is immobilized by trauma from September 11 plus the loss of his job. Her brilliant older daughter has succumbed to a depression so deep she refuses to start college, or even to get out of bed in the morning, while her younger daughter is probably curling up with a bong full of pot. Is it any wonder that Annie is consoling herself with visions of an afternoon romp with her good-looking boss, Brian?
I checked this book out of my local library, where I found it shelved with mysteries and thrillers. There are mysteries to be solved: How have several hundred thousand dollars in bearer bonds gone missing? Is the death of one of the characters really due to natural causes? But the more engrossing questions are whether or not Annie will end up in bed with Brian, whether she will leave her husband and whether her family will fall apart completely when their steadfast housekeeper goes back to South America.
The first two mysteries are not wholly solved -- in fact, it's left to the reader's interpretation as to whether or not a murder actually took place. But the dilemmas involving Annie's life are neatly resolved. I agree in part with another reader reviewer who feels that the climax seems rushed. I don't object to an ending that quickly wraps up loose ends per se -- I've been accused of ending novels abruptly myself. So what I find overly abrupt in Glass' ending is not the way the financial mystery is wrapped up but the quickness with which both husband and daughter emerge from their funks. Her husband and daughter both seem to be clinically depressed, a condition which doesn't usually clear up that fast.
This is fiction, though, and deftly written and enjoyable fiction at that. I found the book an entertaining read. And I was delighted to discover another novel in the growing collection of "matron lit," both because I'm a mature reader myself and because the protagonist of my latest novel -- probably ten years Annie's senior -- also consoles herself with an unexpected lover during a period of marital discord.
That said, I'm glad I didn't pay the hardcover price for a book that can be devoured during the course of a few hours plane trip. I'd wait for the paperback edition.
Entertaining read, ended too quickly..........2005-02-01
This book started out really well, and kept my attention throughout, however- Ms. Glass seems to have rushed the ending. The story develops the characters well, and is believable and entertaining. I just thought the climax was rushed. Everything happens in the last chapter, and it just seemed like she wanted to finish the book without finishing the story. I would recommend this book for an easy read.

Her husband never recovered from the destruction of the World Trade center or the betrayal by a friend who sued him for something he never did. Unable to cope, he quit his job as a stockbroker and became a vegetable couch potato. Annie, a stockbroker at the same firm her spouse left, tries to make her income cover their bills as two salaries used to do while allowing her housekeeper to raise their two children.
Her boss is coming on to Annie and she is ready to succumb to his charms. As she ponders an affair, her best friend's father accuses Annie of stealing bearer bonds from him and her housekeeper abruptly quits leaving behind two emotionally wrecked children in her wake. Annie realizes she must straighten out her own life, be strong for her daughters, and uncover what happened to the bonds while knowing she cannot truly aid her children or her husband until she helps herself.
Leslie Glass displays her wry wit and cutting edge humor in a poignant family drama with a touch of mystery that hooks readers from beginning to end. The protagonist learns that she is strong because circumstances require her to be so; fortified with moral fiber and courage Annie takes charge of her life before she ends up in the same abyss as her husband. He is an intriguing character, her opposite for when the going got tough, he quit. Readers will appreciate this strong tale with a memorable cast who laugh on the outside, but cry on the inside.

From the supplier: The 'glass ceiling' is no longer considered an insurmountable barrier for working women who are determined to succeed in Corporate America. While women are still underrepresented at the top management level in Fortune 1000 firms, they are making considerable progress at all organizational levels and in companies of all sizes. For instance, statistics show that about half of the top 50 firms in the Fortune 500 have at least one woman on the board of directors. In addition, Dun & Bradstreet reports that women entrepreneurs own nearly eight million businesses in the US. Although career women continue to face many challenges, they can achieve success in the business world by preparing themselves for competition with their male colleagues.

It isn't just you!.......2005-08-02
I thought this book was great and loaned it to a few friends who have also like it. The most important message in the book for many people will be the fact that "it isn't just you." One friend commented that she felt the entire book was telling her story, helping her understand that what had been happening to her in the workplace was not about her as an individual but reflected a culture that was steeped in old biases.
I highly recommend this book to anyone interested in how many women are perceived and treated in the workplace.
Highly Recommended!.......2005-04-18
Author and executive Margaret Heffernan fearlessly declares that decades of advice telling business women to act like men, follow traditional rules and cleave to heartless stereotypes are wrong. Breathe a sigh of relief. It's not you; "It's the system, stupid!" In her eyes, the business world inherently does not welcome, respect or value women. Refreshingly, instead of blaming women, the author conveys the advice of hundreds of female survey respondents who say men hold the aces in the business world and don't want to share. Honest, funny and sometimes disconcerting, she offers advice, inspiring examples and helpful stories. She explains how to find or create a humane, cooperative, supportive workplace that fits your principles - and how to make a realistic appraisal if you are at the change-it-or-quit stage. The one shortcoming is the author's absolute unstated assumption that women are innately, inevitably more cooperative, honest and caring than men. This stereotype is a two-edged sword, wounding those men who do have sound values, and reinforcing the typecasting that women ought to be sweet and nurturing because it's in their genes. That aside, we recommend Heffernan's clear view of the hurdles that block a woman's path to business success and work-life balance. She confronts painful realities and adapts them, or adapts to them, even if in nontraditional ways. If you have to be one person at work and someone different at home, her dynamic vision can help you pull it all together.
The ugly truth about gender relations in the office.......2005-01-22
Margaret Heffernan has never been afraid to talk about the ugliness that can happen for women in Corporate America. Her new book is no different. It brings up almost every important issue for women trying to climb the traditional corporate ladder. In some cases she offers solutions, either from her own experience and research, or through the shared stories of women she interviewed for the book.
Two things in particular in the book stuck with me. In one section she discusses women and their "relationship" with work. I really liked the use of that word, "relationship." Because I do have a relationship with my work, just like I have a relationship with the people in my life or with money. (I had never really thought about it in that way before.) The second item that struck me was after I read one woman's description of something very sexist that happened in the workplace, I expected the next line to say, "that was ten years ago." Instead, the line was "that was in 2004." I think we need reminding that not everything has changed, and in fact, anything going on now is even worse than ten years ago, because it's 2005, and we all (including the boys) know better.
Tells it like it is!.......2005-01-14
Margaret doesn't sugarcoat the realities of being an executive female. But she's not on a rant, either, and provides plenty of upside and solid strategies. The Naked Truth is recommended reading for women on every rung on the ladder.
Muy Fantastic!!!.......2004-10-11
5 stars for certain and a must read for business women. My hat is off to margaret who speaks directly to issues and DOESN'T ask women to be more like men. She presents many different ideas - some her own and some presented by other women. Its wonderful to read a book that speaks to you and you feel involved in. Well done indeed.

Book Description
From the Introduction:
The Answer to Human Prayers
If you turn to the teachings of the principal religions--Buddhist, Christian, Hindu, and others--you will find a common prophecy: An All-Surpassing God-Man will come, either as a supreme Avatar, or the final Prophet, or the Enlightened One. In many traditions, it is said this Spiritual Deliverer will appear during the darkest times, when humanity has lost its connection to God, Wisdom, and Truth.
Among Buddhists are those who call that Expected One "Maitreya"; among Hindus, the "Kalki Avatar"; among Christians, the "second coming"; among Jews, the "Messiah". What is common among these great religious traditions is their promise of a future Bringer of Light, one who will restore us to our purpose in both the natural and Spiritual orders.
In our time, we have seen these religious traditions meeting each other on the crowded, now "globalized" world stage. It is obvious that no common portrait exists of what the Promised God-Man will be like. Would he or she be political, like a Messiah, or contemplative, like a Buddha? Align with an existing religion, or start from scratch? Preach absolute tolerance, or war on unbelievers? Would this one, upon seeing the benighted condition of humanity, even bother to announce his or her appearance?
This book answers all these questions and more, for its message is that the God-Man Promised for all humankind is actually here in the person of Avatar Adi Da Samraj. This is the confession of His devotees, those who have found Him and chosen to live in Spiritual Communion with Him. And this is also His own confession.
His devotees have discovered Avatar Adi Da to be the Living Presence of the Divine Reality that is the source of all religion. He is the Transmitter of Perfect Divine Consciousness--here to duplicate His Realization of the Divine Condition in those who turn to Him for His Spiritual Blessing. He is the Divine Avatar, or the mysterious appearance of the Divine Being in a human form--born to Enlighten all who turn to Him for Spiritual Help, and ultimately to Draw them into the eternal "Place" of Infinite Happiness, which He calls His "Divine Self-Domain". And He is the Giver of the Way of Divine Enlightenment--which He has named "the Way of Adidam".
Only Revelation Brings an End to Doubt
Avatar Adi Da refers to the Divine Being as "Real God", "the Only One Who Is", to distinguish Real God from historical concepts and religious dogmas about God. Spiritual Communion with Real God is the subject and goal of all the esoteric religious traditions--as opposed to exoteric traditions, which preach belief in historical mythologies, and tend to ask merely for behavioral changes. By contrast, Avatar Adi Da is here to transform the very consciousness of ordinary people into Divine Consciousness, through Spiritual Communion with Him.
However, "The Promised God-Man is here" is not a statement to merely be believed, in the same way some religious groups insist upon adherence to their dogmas. To merely believe this statement (or any religious statement) is to miss the point entirely. The Truth of this confession is authenticated only in its revelation, directly and unmistakably, in one's living experience.
You have in your hands the evidence, in several forms, for the living Revelation of Avatar Adi Da Samraj. The first form is His Teaching-Word. You may come to the conclusion, as many others have, that only Real God in Person could let loose such a wide, wise ocean of Wisdom, unparalleled in its confession of Divine Ecstasy. You will also read of the amazement and joy that accompanies the Spiritual recognition of Adi Da Samraj by ordinary men and women--and of the devotional response and conversion that followed in their lives. And you will read, in the miraculous events of His own life, a dramatic Spiritual ordeal and passionate demonstration of Divinity unsurpassed by any in human history.
What Is Avatar Adi Da Like?

TAKE IT OR LEAVE IT.......2006-06-09
People who waste their time hating Adi Da Samraj should really get a life. Adi Da Samraj isn't DOING anything to anyone. Read his books if you want, and don't, if you don't want. Hating Adi Da Samraj is about as useful as hating Jesus or Buddha or whoever you chose to blame your pathetic life problems on. Why not read "Excuse Me, Your Life is Waiting" and get on with your existence. Your life sucks because YOU created it through your own actions or inactions - Adi Da Samraj had nothing to do with it. That said, I recommend this book for those interested in opening their minds beyond their limited concepts of the world.
Ladi-Da Bla-bladee-Bla.......2005-05-09
Anyone thinking of joining his organization should checkout the web site "The Knee of Daism" first. If you're seeking "enlightenment" looking ANYWHERE else is a good start.
The honor of becoming a devote of Franks means for you a demeaning life of unending subjugation to his whims (Oh and bring your checkbook and your wife,- got to keep the Guru happy). Frank is a sad sadistic alcoholic who has had up to nine 'wives' at once. A spiritual charlatan par excellence, Frank has a nice repertoire of tricks which convince his minions of his divinity. But this has nothing to do with being awake. Please - think for yourselves, and exercise some basic common sense.
the teaching is one thing, the teacher, quite another.......2002-11-10
There are two things I "got" when reading the Promised God-Man is here --
1.Compelling spiritual insights
2.And the seemingly hypocritical egotism of the guru
there are concerns --Ken Wilber probably says it best -- Wilber stated he believes in Adi Da's divine realization and supports his teachings, but he does not recommend that anyone join the isolated Daist community. Wilber believes that the guru's "crazy wisdom" is taken to an extreme, as many others have claimed. Yet, he remains a loyal disciple and encourages others to take advantage of Adi Da's great spiritual insights and writings.
Years ago, Wilber wrote the endorsement for Adi Da's book "The Dawn Horse Testament" as well as an introduction for "Scientific Proof of the Existence of God Will Soon be Announced by the White House!" More recently, he has written that these are still great spiritual treatises, but he claims the "teaching is one thing, the teacher, quite another." (Ken Wilber, "The Case of Adi Da" )
Please consider these things when reading this book...

A bold title. The Promised God-Man Is Here, by Carolyn Lee, Ph.D, is a testament to the life and evolution of Adi Da Samraj. Adi Da Samraj is a Spiritual Master whose life has seen numerous turns, and several incarnations of his own spiritual identity, as one should expect from a teacher of spiritual development. As you read this book, you start to get a hint of the sincerity this Spiritual Teacher has put into His own search for Truth, only to find that His own Path was to become an extrememly Bright example for the people who have accepted Him as their Guru. Adi Da's teachings have grown into a literal way of life, and his own recognition of the Divine essence is easily a bold, bright step towards the public dissemination of the knowledge of True God. He has become The True Guru. This book made a tremendous impact on me. It, and the examples of Adi Da's teachings, have also forced me to look at my own mental conditioning within society, and my spiritual belief structures. A good hard look worth taking. A book I would very highly recommend for seekers of spiritual truth and awakening.
This vast compilation is a gift!.......2000-04-17
What Carolyn Lee, Ph.D., has done through the 856 pages of "The Promised God-Man is Here" is nothing short of miraculous. To actually chronicle the entire life and blessing work of Adi Da Samraj, and his influence in the world, would take literally 100's of these types of books. In this book, Carolyn Lee condenses pertinent periods and highlights of Adi Da's life, and takes you through an unparalleled journey that ultimately points you to what is promised in the title, that the God-Man is here! Carolyn wrote this book to introduce you to Adi Da. If you have been given the title to this book, it is not by accident. Just for this moment, suspend your doubt, suspicion, and frustration, and take the time to read it. It will surely lead you to Him.
