Romances, inventions, & intrigue.......2002-06-06
Nelson Bond is a wizard at creating bizarre, unusual story lines which excel in the unexpected, and his original stories comprising Far Side Of Nowhere, provide some unusual scenarios; from supernatural forces to wizards and magic. Romances, inventions, intrigue: all the stuff of thrilling fantasy and ordinary individuals caught in unbelievable worlds comes to life.
Ranging in mood from horror to heroic fantasy.......2002-05-16
The Far Side Of Nowhere is an impressively presented anthology of the sometimes bizarrely twisted, sometimes darkly imaged, and always captivating fantasy and science fiction stories of Nelson Bond. A master at skewing reality just enough to see a mirror glimpse of the secret dreams that lie beneath the humdrum, ordinary surface of daily life, Bond is a demonstrably talented writer who has clearly mastered the storytelling craft. Ranging in mood from horror to heroic fantasy, these stories are as evocative and engaging as they are striking and memorable.

Customer Reviews:
LO, THE BEHEMOTH WALKS.......2005-10-24
Tessa and Chidori have been captured by the terrorist organization A-21 and are being used as pawns to get information out of Kalinin. Even if they can find a way to escape, Sosuke is missing, and might be dead, and A-21 is preparing to activate "The Behemoth", a monstrous Lambda driver mecha that makes Mithril's AS's look tiny by comparison. And its pilot is half insane because he needs drugs to pilot it. We also get some background on Tessa, something we never see in the anime version. Parts of this book have already been adapted in anime form but half of it has not, so if you liked the anime, you should check this out. The thing that I like about the manga is that Sosuke and Chidori's relationship has a lot more tenderness to it. There are moments such as them sheltering from a rainstorm and Sosuke offering her his sleeping bag and Chidori asking if she can use his lap as a pillow. There's also a lot of action here, so this would make a good read whether you're a guy or a girl.
Book Description
Sousuke has finally lost his mind, and it's up to Kaname to keep him in line! So what's new? Plenty! Check out this laugh-out-loud sequel to one of ADV's best-loved manga series. Featuring more bombs, more laughs, more Panic than ever before!

But his celebration is short-lived. For an alien armada has targeted America for destruction, and Hawk will have to summon all of his inborn warrior skills to stop them...

The new Hunter Adventure continues.......2002-08-05
The Starhawk series continues with this novel. If you've read my review of the first Starhawk book, you'll know what I'm saying when the evil organization takes clearer form near the end of this book, plus the addition of a new one, The Bad Moon Knights. The same type of plot line that was used in the many of the Wingman books (Free nation/group under the oppression of evil nation/group fights back with the help and inspiration of Hawk Hunter). Now, that's just the basic plotline. It's been said that "God is in the details." and Maloney's details keep you turning page after page.
Hawk Hunter is trying to find his home planet, and the place where he belongs as he's just not comfortable in this new universe. He finds a "pocket universe" where someone is keeping the nations of Earth in such a way that no one can know about it. Once again, Hunter must fight against impossible odds.
Unlike some of Maloney's other books, you would be well advised to read Starhawk (The First book) first. While it uses few of the characters from the first book, Starhawk will give you a good foundation to truly enjoy the second book.
Disappointed.......2002-07-17
I have loved the Wingman series from the beginning. For some reason Mack Maloney has decided to turn these futuristic military book series, into a science fiction project.
I would like to see him get back to his original format and write more "normal" Wingman Books.
Another excellent book.......2002-05-04
Here we are, the second book of Hawk Hunter's--"The Wingman"--trials and adventures in the 7200s and the Fourth Empire, and already this series is showing definate promise. While it seems essentially the same kind of storyline in the "Wingman" series, I've no doubt it'll be enjoyed by both "Wingman" fans, as well as newcomers. The readers of this book will no doubt be amused at a scene that is a take-off of a climactic Star Wars movie scene.
In it, Hawk Hunter discovers the mythical, but no less real, Home Planets, only to find civilizations who know nothing solid about their true origins. On Planet America, Hawk will begin to learn the truth of the injustices forced on his fellow Americans...
Exciting, Wonderful ...and Very Strange.......2002-04-19
This is a very cool sci-fi book. It is filled with the usual non-stop excitement one has come to expect from Mack Maloney. The author paints a sci-fi landscape that manages to combine visions from 1930s-type Flash Gordon sagas right up to Star Wars and beyond. But there is also an X-Files feel to this particular story, especially the middle section, when Hawk and his friends arrive on the long-lost Planet America. Hunter is still a fighter pilot, first and foremost, and his patriotism has not faded one bit. The first part of the book plays like a standard sci-fi story. The second part has the aforementioned X-Files feel, and then, the third part, very strange indeed, is like reading the script to a 1950s sci-fi movie. I'm sure this was the author's intent all along. Three different sci-fi genres rolled into one! I can't wait for the next installment. If there is one thing wrong with Maloney's books it's that the read too fast, and that means we must wait even longer for the next one to come out. If anyone from Hollywood is listening, Starhawk should definitely be made into a movie -- and quick!
You can never go home ............2001-12-30
This second in the new series of Star Hawk defines the Sci-Fi element the author has taken the Hawk Hunter of Wingman fame. This opus drives us with the same sense of good versus evil, excellent combat action, and a new vein of mind bending concepts from the Sci-Fi kit bag. It is a fast read, leaves the dedicated fan and first timer wanting a little more. The best part of this emerging series is continued from the other book collections: faith in your comrades, country, and cause. It is an underlining theme that makes this reader continue to look forward to each new book. For the new reader I would like to point out the earlier work's of Mack Maloney. In each you will find interlooping characters, events, and themes like wormholes in time travel theories. This is a very strong element to this writers ability. He has put a series of inter related works that can be read in any order and remain highly enjoyable. Where is the next Star Hawk book?

Chances are excellent that you could cook out of The Mediterranean Diet Cookbook for the rest of your life and never feel the slightest tinge of boredom. How does Moroccan Carrot Salad with Orange and Lemon Juice sound? Or Catalan Soup of White Beans and Clams? Or Lebanese Fish Baked in a Tomato-Cilantro Sauce?
Mediterranean cooking is refreshingly low in salt, fat, and starch, relying instead on fresh fruits, vegetables, fish, and poultry. Nancy Harmon Jenkins provides a delicious alternative for anyone who feels their basic diet needs a change, but isn't sure which way to turn. Jenkins relishes tradition and place, and the vibrant people who bring this style of cooking alive. She circles the Mediterranean, collecting the classic recipes that fall within the defined parameters of the Mediterranean diet (as recognized by the World Health Organization): "plentiful fruits, vegetables, legumes, and grains; olive oil as the principal fat; lean red meat only a few times a month; low to moderate consumption of other foods from animal sources, such as dairy products, fish and poultry; and moderate consumption of wine." Simplicity is the key to the Mediterranean diet--simple ingredients and stress-free preparation and cooking. This is more than a cookbook--it is a blueprint for healthier living. --Schuyler Ingle

Wonderful cookbook.......2007-06-27
I read this cover to cover and enjoyed every delicious word! YUM. I love to cook this way anyway, and having just returned from the Mediterranean, I had a great appreciation for the menus and foods (which I just recently ate - double yum). I'm excited to have this in my inventory of cookbooks.
It's all Greek to me!.......2007-04-12
I bought this book because my Doctor recommended a Mediterranean Diet for heart health. It is a big book, full of recipies and asides about living in Mediterranean countries. That part was interesting. However, I found the recipies way too ethnic for our use. They use many ingredients that can not be found in our South-Western community. Also, most of them don't even appeal to me. I did read it cover to cover and tried to glean from it some basics of a Mediterranean Diet that I could try to apply to our circumstances. In that respect, it was helpful.
Good cook book.......2007-03-14
Has good recipes and provides a little history behind the mediterranean diet. I can feed my kids many of the recipes I find in here.
Great Book as Introduction to Mediterranean Cooking.......2007-02-06
I have had this book now a few months and overall it is a great addition. The Egyptian Lentil Soup is my husband's absolute favorite and he asks for it at least twice a month.
Overall a good book.
Excellent Cookbook.......2007-02-06
This cookbook not only provides you with recipes, but provides information on the benefits of the ingredients.

The Bluegrass Music Cookbook is a great book...a must for any fan of Bluegrass Music or curious about the genre.
Actually, I've only tried a couple of the recipes, so that should make you ask "How can he review a cookbook if he hasn't tried out the recipes?"
Good Question...The Bluegrass Cookbook is one of the best books to introduce someone to the significant Bluegrass players of today and yesterday. There are lots of great photos that I saw for the first time in this book, and great biographical notes on each of the featured artists. Its a great book to browse, and even the knowledgeable historian can pick up something new after each browse.
And by the way...given the Southern rural heritage of Bluegrass Music, you know the cookin's great!
Customer Reviews:
STOP!!! Read this before buying here!!!.......2006-02-03
I live in the Chicagoland area and was just at the museum today. As expected, the dollhouse is as amazing as it was when I was a little girl. I saw this book in the gift stop. IT ONLY COSTS $24.95!!! Please, please don't pay these people double what the book actually costs! Go to the Museum of Science and Industry's website at http://site.msishops.com/books.html and look for the book at the bottom of the page. I'm sure there's shipping that's not included. There might even be tax, but it'll no doubt still be cheaper than paying these people $50-$60 for the book. What a rip-off!!!
The World's Ultimate Dollhouse.......2002-04-24
When I was 7 years old, my mother, grandmother and a cousin of mine went to Chicago, and one of the places we went was the Museum of Science and Industry. Before we went, my mother told me that as a young girl, she had seen the fairy castle when it toured the country before becoming a permanent exhibit at the museum. She told me how much she loved it, and I couldn't wait to see it. I was not disappointed. This IS the ultimate dollhouse. Every time I go to the museum, you can't get me to leave without seeing the fairy castle.I took my own daughter to see it, and now she loves it, too. The last time we went, I found this wonderful book at the gift shop, and was thrilled that now I could look at my beloved fairy castle whenever I wished. This book is a real treasure, with beautiful pictures of the castle. Anyone who loves dollhouses, and the fairy castle in particular, will love this book. It never fails to provoke happy memories for me.
Fairies Live Here!.......2001-03-06
I recently had the pleasure of visiting the castle in Chicago, and can hardly find the words to say how magnificent it was! Still, in the time I had to view it, so many details were missed. That is why this book is so great. It not only displays the castle with better lighting, it gives you a chance to savor all the tiny details you might never have seen. There is also some wonderful biographical information on Colleen Moore herself. A must for miniature lovers, little girls, and dreamers everywhere!
Every Little Girl's Dream.......2000-01-11
I was browsing in Amazon.com when I discovered this book. I was so excited that I couldn't wait to order it. Chicago's Museum of Science & Industry is one of my all-time favorite places on earth. I still go there whenever I go back for a visit. As a little girl, growing up in Chicago in the 60's, one of my favorite things was going to see Colleen Moore's Doll House every year. I'm sure you can probably imagine how magical this huge, intricately planned, priceless, bejeweled dollhouse seemed in a darkened room by itself, lit with soft lights, telephones all around it so you could listen to discriptions of each room as you peered through the glass barrier surrounding it. This book captures much of the beauty of the amazing miniature treasures and the magic of the house itself-and definitely puts a smile on my face.
CAN I LIVE HERE WHEN I DIE??!!!.......1999-04-10
THE COLOR PHOTOS ARE FABULOUS! I ENVY THE FAIRY PRINCE AND PRINCESS THAT LIVE IN THIS FABULOUS CREATION. THE WORK OF PROFESSIONALS IS EVIDENT--I JUST WISH I COULD HAVE HAD MORE VIEWS OF THE TREASURES INSIDE! BUY IT! IF YOU LOVE DOLLHOUSES AND FANTASY, YOU'LL LOVE THIS TOUR OF COLLEEN MOORE'S DOLL CASTLE!

oldie but a goodie..........2007-04-11
while not as well photographed as more modern craft books-this is one of the best books around if you want to learn to make jewelry from fabric. If you're like me and love artsy, fun, offbeat projects then you'll love this book. And you certainly will love how cheap you can get it used here on Amazon:)
4.5 stars!

I have several books on making soft jewelry and I consider this to be the best. The patterns are clear and easy to follow, the photos are colorful, and it is the only one that has instructions for creating your own beads from clay and wallpaper. I heartily recommed it for all those who want to make their own jewelry

Amazon.com Audiobook Review
Ed McMahon--who reads the abridgment of the autobiography he cowrote with David Fisher--is first and foremost an entertainer, and as such, he peppers his life story with jokes. Since he lacks a live audience here, he also supplies the appropriate laughs. Always upbeat, McMahon skirts much of his personal life, which includes two divorces, and concentrates on his professional life, from his early days as Philadelphia's "Mr. Television" through his 30 years as Johnny Carson's sidekick on The Tonight Show. Those hoping for inside dirt on Johnny will have to listen elsewhere; these anecdotes are strictly flattering. But in his celebrated, booming voice, McMahon gladly shares the stories behind the creation of his trademark calls: "Heeeerrreee's Johnny" and "Hi-yoooo!" (Running time: three hours, two cassettes) --Kimberly Heinrichs

For Laughing Out Loud.......2000-04-03
Entertaining in parts. Unfortunately somewhat disjointed and becomes rather boring towards the end. Does provide an insight into The Tonight Show and Johnny Carson. Most of the references to incidents on the show seem to come from the Video tape set- The Johnny Carson Collection" (which I highly recommend). Have also read "I'll Be Right Back" - by Mike Douglas. A much more entertaining and informative book about talk shows. I don't suppose that there is much chance of Johnny Carson writing a biography because he likes to keep his privacy. It would undoubtedly be a best seller.
all i can say is wow!.......1999-09-16
to enjoy this book, you will need soft light, smoking jacket, cohiba, and a stiff glass of bourbon. to delve into the topic of ed mcmahon it takes that kind of mindset. johnny carson's riveting forward captures the whole essence of the "hiyo," years. ed then takes us on a whirlwind tour of late nights of enebriation and carousing. shows spent drunk with johnny, burt reynolds and dom deluise are also brought to life so vividly by mcmahon you swear you could smell the vermouth and brut 33. ed also triumphantly portrays what it was like for him at the culmination of his life's work when timothy blakesley became the first winner of the american family sweepstakes. the question of whom did he prefer: johnny or dick is explored in an honest disection by the author. by this point your not quite sure of anything because you will be on your sixth bourbon and the cigar you were smoking has caught your smoking jacket on fire. i give four stars just on entertainment value alone. HIYO!!!
