Book Description
The summer she turned fourteen, Piper Kincaid's artistic, free-spirited mother packed her bags and disappeared, never to be seen by her family again. Overwhelmed and confused by this sudden loss, Piper becomes romantically entangled with an older man-with devastating consequences. Now thirty and suffering from breast cancer, Piper looks back at that summer, filled with regret. Like the shards of glass her mother used to make beautiful collages, Piper's shattered memories are carefully reassembled. Slowly, with the help of her best friend and an unexpected letter, Piper makes peace with her past and her uncertain future. Told with lyrical prose and lush imagery, Undressing the Moon is a poignant story of coming of age and coming to terms.
Customer Reviews:
Undressing the Moon.......2007-08-17
This book was pretty good, although parts tended to drag. The only problem I had was Greenwood's elusiveness to "him" during the book. I kept asking "Who is he?" All in all, a good read.
Poetic, but lacking..........2005-12-22
Ms. Greenwood's writing is lovely, lyrical, and poetic. As a cancer survivor, I could relate to her spot-on descriptions of how an illness like this makes you feel. However, I was frustrated by her unrealistic details.
I found it quite unbelievable that when Piper finally opens the letters she's been receiving from her mother for several years (but refusing to open), she finds they are envelopes containing nothing but shards of glass. Yes, yes, I know this is a mystical thing and her mother was a sensitive, artistic soul who created windows from found pieces of glass. But, how could Piper, her friend Becca, and the U.S. Postal Service not have noticed there were not letters in those envelopes? It seems silly. Glass shards would have poked throuth the paper, would have smashed into a powder when going through the postal system equipment, would have been noticeably un-letterlike. Sorry to belabor this point, but it represents the most blatant of the silly details that were wrong in this book and made me cringe a few times. I think the novel could have been outstanding, but for the author trying too hard with this kind of "artistic" junk. And I studied art myself and consider myself an artist (in addition to my librarian day job). Sorry, but this just misses.
A Brilliant Read.......2005-02-18
From the time I picked it up, this book gripped me. I work from home and played hooky from my editing job to read--and then finish--this book. It is one of those stories, much like Laura Moriarty's The Center of Everything, with extremely vivid characters. Not only are the characters intriguing, but the plot is alluring and the writing is as fluid and brilliant as any I've read. Greenwood's words are lyrical. A professor of mine once said that a really good book isn't one you can't put down, but one you put down often, carefully digesting every word. Undressing the Moon is one of those.
Amazing.......2004-04-19
I positively loved this book. The characters are so vivid and real, it's hard not to feel like you're one of them, or that you're actually there, witnessing the whole story. I've read the book 3 times and it still affects me the same way it did the first time I read it.
a MUST read!.......2003-08-05
I will read everything by Tammy Greenwood now - I have rarely found a book that intrigued me and moved me so much. Incredible!
Book Description
This title chronicles the latest adventure of various iconic characters from the Dungeons & Dragons core rulebooks. This series of novels is designed to bring readers closer to the feeling of actually playing a D&D adventure. This eighth title in the novel line features, among others, the iconic character of the rogue, who appeared in two previous titles, The Savage Caves and Treachery's Wake.
Andaron's Delve, a great dwarven stronghold ravaged by war, has for ages lain abandoned. Now, smoke once again pours from the immense furnaces, and goblins and beasts guard the ancient entrance. Evil is rekindled in the heart of the mountain and strives to forge anew Andaron's sundered arms.
This time, it's about survival.

NEVER RECIEVED ITEM.......2006-08-24
I never recieved the item. Therefore, there is nothing to review.
Sundered Grammar.......2004-01-12
When a chapter is titled "Dissention" (sic), you know the editor is asleep at the switch. There are unfortunately more instances of bad grammar, as well as a quote from The Empire Strikes Back that take this from an average dungeon crawl to less than average.
We have three returning characters, Devis the half-elf Bard, Vadania the druid and Lidda the halfing rogue. Vadania and Lidda are uncharacteristically besotted with Devis though they are both experienced enough to know better, particularly Vadania. Tordek a dwarven fighter is the new iconic addition and Vadania is given a wolverine companion.
That being said, the actual adventure is fairly good. Some really powerful enemies and enchanted weapons with a satisfying ending. It is really too bad that this series suffers from an editor who shows such disregard to the readers by allowing such continuity and basic english mistakes.
Good mind-candy D&D story.......2003-07-03
This was one of Lain's better plots, and the character choices were interesting in that for the first time (or at least, as I can recall), there were no humans involved.
Tordek, the dwarf fighter, Vadania the elven druidess, Devis the half-elf bard, and Lidda the halfing rogue hook up to delve deep into a once-Dwarven stronghold that has been taken by evil. They all have a reason: Tordek wants to avenge a wrong against the Dwarven people, Vadania wants to stop the foul forge's sludge from ruining the forest, Devis wants a heroic story, and Lidda ... wants cash.
But! As the story progresses, there's actual character development, especially with Devis (who we've not really seen in a while, and whose serious side gets a bit of brief attention). Tordek's history is explained, and I liked it.
The cohesiveness of Lain's world is a bit off sometimes, and the way that "evil creatures of the week" seem to gang up on the heroes is sometimes a bit amiss, but this had some strength to it. Cursed evil weapons being reforged in hellfire on a profaned Dwarven altar by demonic forces intent on bringing a demon into the world? Oooh yeah.
Can they stop it? Of course they can. They're heroes. THe fun is in the how.

New yet old.......2004-12-18
Anne Rice started off with the tales of Louis and Lestat, but eventually branched out to include the "New Tales of the Vampires," stories about minor vampires who have their own stories to tell. Sadly, while "Pandora" is a decent vampire tale, "Vittorio" is an unfortunate stumble.
"Pandora" is given a journal to tell her story in -- and it's a wild tale. Reluctantly telling her story to new vampire David Talbot (a "chronicler" of vampire tales), Pandora describes her early life: a pampered Roman girl, who fled the destruction of her family. In Antioch she is saved by the ancient vampire Marius, who turns her into a vampire.
"Vittorio" is a heretofore unknown vampire: a beautiful, wealthy teenager living in Renaissance Italy, the middle of art and beauty in the 15th century. But when Vittorio's family is murdered by vampires, he alone is spared to become one of the undead, and the lover of beautiful vamp (in more than one sense) Ursula. But he tears away from her, and finds that vampires are not the only ones who can create horrors...
Anne Rice's more recent works suffer in comparison to her early Vampire Chronicles, and the "New Tales of the Vampires" fall victim to that. Taken alone, they're not half bad. "Pandora" is undoubtedly the stronger tale, with its more intelligent storyline and lesser focus on angst and religion (religion in books can be a good thing, but Rice smothers "Vittorio" in it). And at the end of the day, the books feel... like filler, something to hold over the fans.
Her writing is unquestionably beautiful -- Rice's prose is as rich and deep as fine velvet. And "Pandora" moves along at a slow but steady clip, well-written and apparently well-thought out; the only problem is that Rice could have expanded the book into a sprawling horror/historical drama... and didn't. "Vittorio" makes up for its lack of plot by being almost absurdly overwrought at times.
Anne Rice's books tend to focus more on men than on women, which makes Pandora all the more appealing -- she's strong, witty and intelligent. That also makes Vittorio all the more wimpy. Old characters like Marius pop up in "Pandora," making welcome appearances. But "Vittorio" has... nobody we already know. It's not a flaw in itself, but it may be a bit disorienting for fans.
"The New Tales of the Vampires" are not the best that Anne Rice has written, and far from the worst. The prettily written "Pandora" and overworked "Vittorio" are an interesting diversion, but they still feel like filler.

Customer Reviews:
andrea immer robinsons 2006 wine buyers guide for everyone.......2006-11-05
this is exactly what i was looking for as a shpping guide for wines. Its one of the few books that doesnt harp on vintage, but on the quality on the producer of the wine. eassy to understand ratings for taste and value, which make it an easy to use buying giude. I take it to the grocery and wine store everytime.
For Everyone.......2006-07-10
This wine buying guide is ideal for anyone, wine expert or novice.
It is easily read and organized. The best part is you'll learn what wines taste the best and cost the least!!
Don't Leave Home Without It.......2006-03-27
Now here's a wine guide for real people. Let's rephrase "wine guide" If it's a pocket guide like Oz Clarke, Hugh Johnson, or this one by Andrea Immer...we should call them "wine store guides".
I find this fascinating: My wife and I are never in a wine store without a pocket guide and we rarely get a clunker. I think there's a correlation here. BUT, we never...and I don't mean "rarely" but actually "never" see anyone else shopping the aisles with a guide. It is sooooooooo helpful.
More to the point: Andrea expects you to use the guide at the super market, Trader Joes, CostPlus, and your average wine store. She's not biased toward the high-end of the market (which I think other pocket guides are), so you can find tons of values.
Don't leave home without it. No, not your Amex card. Andrea Immer's wine store guide.
Lots of wine reviews in this book........2006-02-28
This is a great book to have with you when you happen to see a wine shop or see a "bargain" wine sale or maybe you are trying to pick out a wine at the local grocery. The only reason I did not give this book 5 stars is that although the book is narrow, it is long and difficult to stick in my purse and impossible for my husband to stick in his pocket. I have used it many times already and have not been disappointed with her recommendations. She is not afraid to give a high rating to a relatively inexpensive wine ($8-10) when it's good.
Best guide for everyday wine!.......2005-12-07
I bought this book to guide in purchasing wine for everyday that is between 5 and 20 dollars. I am so happy I did. The guide has a rating system to tailor your buying decisions based on what matters most to you. For everyday wine, I like wine that is around $10 and has a high "price to taste value" and keeps well in the fridge in case I take a few days to finish the bottle. This book successfully helped me buy well over 10 wines available in my local store. All of said wines matched the ratings very well. I highly suggest this book for anyone looking for everyday pleasant wine drinking experiences.

Book Description
This is a book about Klal Yisrael, the worldwide commonwealth of the Jewish people. The main question asked, is whether one can still speak of 'one' Jewish people, encompassing all Jews in the world.
The Jewish collective identity stands at new crossroads of multicultural ideologies and transnational diasporism. Jewry is experiencing an existential problem in today's changing society, shifting between convergence and unity on the one hand and divergence and division on the other hand. Quo vadis, O Jewish people? Rather than fully answering this question, researchers from Israel, the United States, Brazil, Argentina, Ukraine, Russia, France and Belgium try to open up the discussion in this book.

2nd editon worse than the 1st one.......2003-10-22
While the first edition of this book was very good, the 2nd one was updated by completely omitting one of the 8 major regions of the country (Maluku) just because there was some political trouble there around 1999-2000 (well over by the time this edition actually got published) - it is now worse than the Lonely Planet guide which, with all its errors and shortcomings, at least does cover the entire country.
Poor travelling companion.......2003-09-15
I should have known once I looked at the first map and Vietnam was mislabelled as "China". Poor editing, unreliabale information, inconsistently updated. I chose this guidebook because it was recently published (Feb '03) - MISTAKE! For instance, some prices were up-to-date and some were out by a factor of 5 (if the prices were consistently low it would have been easier). Dates were wrong, telephone numbers quoted had changed in early 1990's, hotel listed were in the wrong towns, maps were difficult to follow. I have travelled with Rough Guides before, so I hope this is an exception, but DO NOT BE TEMPTED TO TRAVEL WITH THIS GUIDEBOOK.

Book Description
Adam Wheeler is a fourteen year-old who arrives in Toronto in the autumn of 1837 after crossing from England on a filthy and crowded immigrant ship. He has emigrated in company with his uncle's family, but, once in Upper Canada, he quarrels with his uncle and sets out on his own. Adam finds work in a paper mill at the village of Todmorden on the banks of the Don River.
Adam soon learns that William Lyon Mackenzie is mounting a rebellion. When the uprising begins, he is drawn into the conflict both because his employer sends him to deliver paper to the rebel camp at Montgomery's Tavern, and also because his uncle joins Mackenzie's force.
Among those Adam befriends are two teenage girls, Cornelia and Charlotte de Grassi. These historical figures, aged thirteen and fourteen at the time, served as spies and messengers for the government side during Mackenzie's Rebellion.
Although this book is a work of fiction, it is solidly based on real history. The events of the 1837 Rebellion have been carefully researched and are presented as accurately as possible. Captain and Mrs de Grassi and their daughters, and several other characters, were real people and, improbable as it may seem, the girls' work as spies and messengers during the rebellion days is fully authenticated.
When it comes to presenting human beings however, historical documents are usually uninformative. To bring the characters to life, the author has invented certain scenes and details, all of which she based carefully on what she learned about the de Grassi family, and on the life and circumstances of the time.

A good book for you historians!.......1999-10-11
When I first picked up this book, I thought, " well, here's another historical book by some well meaning writer who most likly screwed the whole history section up." But, boy was I wrong! I took it of the top self of my local library, read a few pages standing up, thought to myself, " hey, this isn't so bad, but it'll probably get worse in the secend chapter." I then sat down, and read a few more pages, thinking all the while it was going to get bad all of a sudden. Soon I was almost in the middle of the book and found myself unable to put it down! I personally am not some smcho(?) who is all nice and crap when it comes to reviewing books but i have to say, by the time I finished it, I wanted to go back and read the whole thing again! Though I warn you, it's not for those who have no time on their hands, (Its a pretty long book) I definitly reccomened it if you like history or are just looking for a interesting novel!

Book Description

Book Description
Billy has everything: a buff body, a high-powered New York job, even a beach house in Provincetown. But something's missing from this boytoy's fabulous life--a boyfriend. Along comes Carlos, a hunky fireman who shares Billy's passion for pumping up. But can these sculpted studs find true love in such a plastic world? Won't you come out and play with Billy, Carlos, and their friend Tyson?

What Can I Say.........................2001-07-08
If you love Billy, Carlos, & their new friend Tyson, you'll love this cute little book. Or if you own all three dolls you definitely have to have this book to go with them. This is a story book for adults that brings to life these different & life-like dolls. By the end of the story you forget they're only dolls and believe you're reading about real people. Quite an accomplishment by David & Dianora.
It's the story of Billy who has almost everything, the perfect body, a great New York job, and a beach house in Provincetown. What more could he want? A boyfriend who happens to be a fireman and is called Carlos. Then along comes Tyson. This is a cute little story, as well as a cleverly designed book. It's a must for you Billy lovers. Truly enjoyable, and fun.
