Book Description
Imre is one of the first openly gay American novels with a happy ending. Described by the author as "a little psychological romance," the narrative follows two men who meet by chance in a café in Budapest, where they forge a friendship that leads to a series of mutual revelations and gradual disclosures. With its sympathetic characterizations of homosexual men, Imre's 1906 publication marked a turning point in English literature.
This edition includes material relating to the novel's origins, contemporary writings on homosexuality, other writings by Prime-Stevenson, and a contemporary review.

A wonderful edition of an important work.......2004-02-27
Oswald, a British aristocrat, meets the Hungarian soldier Imre in Budapest, and they develop a friendship. After some time, Oswald confesses his homosexuality and fears losing his new friend, but Imre's own confession changes both their lives. Privately published in 1906 under the alias Xavier Mayne, "Imre: A Memorandum" is one of the earliest novels with positive homosexual characters, and is especially notable for its happy ending. The story is more of a discourse about homosexuality and serves somewhat as a precursor to the author's later study, "The Intersexes". In his introduction and through various appendices, James Gifford tells about Stevenson's life, includes some other excerpts from Stevenson's works, and includes a review of "Imre" from 1907. This is a fascinating edition of an important work in queer literature.

This Title is Incorrect.......2007-01-30
Please be aware that this oracle was devised by the author of this book and is not Tibetan. The gemstones are not Tibetan, either. So, to call it Tibetan Gemstone Oracle is not correct!
The Tibetan Oracle Pack, however, is derived from a Tibetan oracle text and is genuine. Also, you can try The Tibetan Oracle or Mo: Tibetan Dice Divination; both noteworthy and authentic texts.
This book is Gemstone Oracle, even though it is called Tibetan. Maybe there was a typographical error at the printing press. Use your own scrutiny to find a good Tibetan oracle method.
Thank you.
Beautiful artwork and insightfully written!.......2004-05-13
I purchased this set when it was first published and use it quite frequently. After realizing that the simplicity of knowledge and beauty of the cards might have a very positive effect on others, I continue to give this gift of Dawn's work to clients in my counseling business.
Dawn is extremely talented and very insightful. Her work is easily understandable for the novice, while also informative for those more literate in Tibetan ways. Let's hope she publishes other works for us in the near future!
Beautifully illustrated and written.......2002-07-22
A great book to learn about healing and channeling your energies in a more positive way. The book has many 'gems' in terms of ideas, thoughts, and basic healthly, positive principles of living -- for the novice to the expert person who is on a spiritual quest to a more fulfilling life. Buy it!
precise development & uplifting art!.......2002-02-15
The colors & tones of this deck are SO different from any other products I have purchased/reviewed. A photo of the stone is imposed upon the painted artwork. The 6 stones unique to this set are: Earth Keeper crystal, iolite, apatite, shiva lingam, star quartz, & boulder opal. The division by elements/areas is similar to The Crystal Ally Cards & the Crystal Journey Cards, but is a completely "new" system of association. To my knowledge, there is no other deck so precisely built around a specific discipline. The skandhas are from sacred geometry: cube, icosahedron, (merkabah)star tetrahedron, octahedron & dodecahedron. The lotus blossom on each of the 8 cards per elemental "suit" are that chakra's color: red, orange, yellow, *emerald, *rose, blue, indigo, purple. (note: the heart chakra uses these 2*) There are 10 readings/layouts.
Jewels of the Lotus: Tibetan Gemstone Oracle.......2000-01-31
I love this book and card deck! Of all the books I've read about crystals, this is the most comprehensive book I've seen! The card deck is great for readings! This book links crystals to the metaphysical and physical parts of human beings in a way that makes so much sense. Now I really understand why crystals affect us.
And the cards are great! Whenever I get a cold or feel down about something, I just get out the deck of cards and give myself a reading from the "Jewels of the Lotus." The reading is always right on track - I come away with insights into the situation and then I make progress by using what I learned.
This is a long overdue book and card deck - it is definitely on my gift list for my favorite people!

Awesome puzzles.......2001-11-19
If you find solving intricate 3D puzzles to be its own reward then the Jewels of the Oracle series is for you. Games such as Myst require the player to learn a bunch of extraneous storyline material just to explore and solve its overly interdependent 3D puzzles. Jewels skips the fluff and offers 24 elegant puzzles that will give your cerebral cortex a distracting workout. Three levels of eight puzzles each with a minor fiction story woven around it. Solve them in any order you like. Awesome graphics, simple controls and no time limit.

Product Description
The Oracles and The Jewels, The Academy, Vol. I is a 492 page fantasy fiction in the tradition of Tolkien and C.S. Lewis that holds up virtues like faith, love, duty, courage, wisdom, the sacred, and the importance of rituals in the face evil. This is a story about the land of Entos, which had been created in the midst of a dark and evil world called Bohow. This dark world is ruled by the evil King Ashkelon, who sits enthroned in the city of Ektos. It is from there that the evil king puts into action a plan that will corrupt Entos and divide her eight tribes. The ancient, ordinary, and humble things to which Entos owes her very existence are being replaced with new innovations and dogmas. In its weakened state, the ancient landÂ’s very existence is in doubt. Empowered by the Oracles and the Jewels and aided by conjurors, priests, and warriors, six ordinary young Entosians are transformed through study, combat, betrayal, and suffering into the means by which Entos may be saved.
Customer Reviews:
nearly the best book ive read.......2006-06-15
I was reading and it took me forever to put it down. It has everything you can think of for all types of people. Mystery, combat, love, loyality, betrayal. I admit it doesnt get to exiting until the last ten chapters, but the rest of the book fills you in with everything youneed to know for the end. I would concider this book for everyone
First Rate.......2006-03-11
Stanford hits the mark on this one! It is first rate fantasy, but beyond that, it is first rate for the development of character, plot and theme. This is a wholesome tale, rich with detail. It was too captivating to be read slowly the first time; it is too good not to be read more slowly the second time to savor its finer points.
Looking forward to Volume 2.......2006-03-06
I agree with all the other reviews, this is a really good book. Half way through the book, I found myself looking forward to getting some free time to read another chapter, and it was harder and harder to put down as you get towards the end. There are tons of characters, which I found a difficult time keeping track of, but I concentrated on the main ones, at least the ones I thought were important. Come the last chapter I discovered I was duped, and one that seemed unimportant ends up being a Benedict Arnold. I had to go back and see if I missed the signs (I'm not telling you who).
I would adives picking this book up for a good story. I know as soon as volume 2 comes out, I'll be in line to buy it.
A great find.......2006-02-22
In the Oracles and the Jewels, C.S. Stanford has written a wonderful fantasy of good vs. evil with strong theological and moral threads woven throughout the novel. The characters are not only endearing, but also remind us how difficult it can be to believe in ideals contrary to the majority and stand up for what is right. I eagerly await the next book to see what the future holds for the six primary characters.
A Mix Between Tolkien and Lewis, Yet an Original Story as Well.......2006-02-14
With this novel, C. S. Stanford delivers a fantasy similar to C. S. Lewis's classic "The Chronicles of Narnia". As with the Chronicles, this book is overflowing with theological symbolism. Unlike the Chronicles, however, this book brings a more serious, grown-up nature because of its fierce battles and absence of talking animals. Once the evil land of Ektos attacks with its greusome, ugly monsters, many heart-pounding battles scenes take place that reminded me of the ones found in "The Lord of the Rings". The lovable characters and hard-fought battles will keep you on the edge of your seat. My only problem was that I often found myself reading until about two in the morning because I could not find a good stopping point.

Customer Reviews:
Going Green in Berkeley.......2007-07-23
this is a wonderful book with more than just great recipes, Ann has also included a superb section on "confidence in the kitchen" with recommendations for all the kitchen equipment (knives, cutting boards, pans, mandoline, etc.)that a cook needs to make the kitchen a fabulous and functioning place, with Ann's recommendations, every kitchen becomes a workable and enjoyable space to have fun and conveniently prepare delicous dishes.
Ann also has a section on "the basics" - just the perfect information I need regarding grains, beans, flour, and so much more. I am very lucky to live in Berkeley with the finest fresh organic veggies available at farmers markets (Berkeley, Marin and of course the market at the Ferry Building) Thanks Ann for your great recipes, your book is a much needed update to my 1972 The Vegetarian Epicure.
Labor intensive but worth it!.......2007-05-12
Very few cookbooks have kept my attention for so long. Anne Gentry's book is full of vegan delights that are so flavorful. The barbequed tofu is fantastic and will please the staunchest tofu-sceptic. Seitan recipe is wonderful and versatile. I really appreciate her bent towards whole grains as well because that is how we eat.
There are a lot of spices to add and veggies to chop for some of the recipes- like the tacos which take hours to prepare but for a special meal for guests your payback comes when people start digging in. I learned a lot from this cookbook and intend to try every recipe-including the desserts because I have loved everything I have tried.
must have cook book.......2007-03-22
this is a must have cook book for all health conscious house hold.
I've eaten at the restaurant numerous of times and had no idea what all interesting ingredients in each of the dishes.
cooking traditional is no brainer but being creative and healthy is an art of cooking.
Excellent Cookbook.......2007-01-07
Real Food Daily has recipes for those of us who love to cook and love reliable recipes and delicious food. Every recipe tastes better than it reads. A constant and delightful surprise.
Don't try this at home.......2007-01-02
I read the enthusiatic reviews before buying this cookbook. I was disappointed. First of all, the recipes are very difficult and time-consuming. It would help to have a staff of kitchen help to do all the required prep. Secondly, the presentation is lacking. But the worst problem of all is the exotic ingredients called for. It seems that every other recipe requires "kombu" which is apparently some kind of seaweed. I searched high and low and checked out every oriental market in town, to no avail. Nobody knew what I was talking about! I still don't know what kombu is. Similarly, many other ingredients are generally unavailable. Maybe these things would be easier to find on the West Coast where there is a large Asian population, but you just can't get them in Texas.
All that said, I did have some very delicious results on the "Acorn Squash stuffed with sweet rice." I only had to make a few substitutions...

Customer Reviews:
Old tech.......2000-11-07
It's difficult to review this title because it makes extensive use of a a version of Quicktime that was already out of date when the CD was released in 1998. You can't run the program without removing your current version of Quicktime and replacing it with a version that will no longer play anything except this program. The CD is interesting, but not worth either crippling your system or deleting and installing Quicktime every time you want to run it.

Book Description
"In ancient cultures, they didn*t practice theory in their dances; they wanted to arrive at a state of trance, and I think that's an appropriate approach for the arts: to create a work that is entrancing." -- Reza Abdoh
Incorporating interviews, critical essays, reviews, and the complete text of the play The Hip-Hop Waltz of Eurydice, Reza Abdoh is a comprehensive introduction to this influential and controversial theater artist. By the time he died of AIDS in the spring of 1995 at age 32, Reza Abdoh had written, assembled, and directed well over a dozen works for the stage. In this first complete account of his career, Abdoh emerges as an internationally acclaimed artist who was influenced by a wide range of cultures and sources. Yet he is also distinctly American: a visionary who drew heavily on popular culture to expose sexual, racial, and media obsessions in American society. Despite this influence, Abdoh's works are not typical of American theater, according to theater critic Daniel Mufson, because they vehemently reject sentimentality and happy endings.
Abdoh was born in Iran, raised in England, and lived and worked in New York and Los Angeles. He was the recipient of a CalArts/Alpert Theater award in 1995 and a posthumous "Bessie," the Choreographer and Creator Award for Sustained Achievement. Several of his plays toured extensively in Europe. Aside from directing his own plays, Abdoh worked in other genres and media, ranging from a staging of Verdi's Simon Boccanegre to the making of a feature-length film, The Blind Owl.
"The aesthetic shock of encountering Abdoh's turbulent work sent me reeling back to relive the shock of discovering the radical new art of the 60's, which changed my life." -- Richard Foreman
"Abdoh filled his works with tension: tension born of moral and formal contradictions; tension born of tone oscillating wildly from frenzy to calm; tension born of the negotiation between poetic and profane, traditional and modern, normal and abnormal... One of the surprising aspects of Abdoh's work was that it was able to render wretchedness shocking to a society that ordinarily considers itself numbed to depiction of its own dejectedness." -- Daniel Mufson, from the Introduction
Customer Reviews:
A terrific introduction to a non-traditional artist.......1999-05-29
Dan Mufson quite masterfully brings together all of the elements required to provide real insight into the work of Reza Abdoh. It is a shame that more people have not been exposed to his work. My daughter enjoyed the book as well, and getting her to read anything of any length is usually a challenge.
