Importance of love of mankind and Mother Earth.......2004-04-07
Recently, I had the good fortune to attend a book reading of a children's book entitled KOKOPELLI & THE BUTTERFLY.
(...)
In this case, the story -teller was the author himself, Michael Sterns, whose animated reading of his book mesmerized adults and children alike.(...)
First Nation's legendary character, KOKOPELLI, carries the torch of love, friendship and compassion from town to town until he is invited to view the prized possession of a Grand Chief: a rainbow colored butterfly in a prison with bars of bone. With his magical powers, KOKOPELLI liberates the dying butterfly causing an amazing transformation.
The exquisite illustrations executed in line drawings by Joseph V. Cioffi and special effects by Gayle Deal magically capture the love of Mother Earth by America's First People. As a footnote, it should be noted that the paintings are somewhat similar to the Pocahontas drawings, as the artists had worked at one time for Disney Studios.
The sides of the pictures are alternated so that if there is more than one child involved they may share equally in the reading experience, as Michael Sterns demonstrated so well during his lively performance.
Michael Sterns enchants his readership with his idealistic dreams of love, hope and compassion for all of mankind. The concepts of peace, conflict management, respect for Mother Earth and interpersonal relations are developed briefly in the upbeat narrative. Just enough to get children's imaginations fired up.
I had reservations about the wisdom of condensing so many subjects together in all their complexities in 62 illustrated pages of a fairy tale. However, KOKOPELLI & THE BUTTERFLY, a clearly written primer for young readers, went a long way towards assuaging my doubts. Michael Sterns's text is lively, direct and succeeds in explaining the basic dreams of love of mankind and the preservation of Mother Earth.
The book is not only a good bedtime read, but also teachers will have at their disposal a useful tool in order to initiate discussions about pollution love and respect for Mother Earth.
No doubt, KOKOPELLI & THE BUTTERFLY will act as an impetus in fueling the fire of imagination in creative writing and art for young and old alike; a pleasant change from the clicking fingers of video games, Internet and Television.
Conversing with author Michael Sterns after his performance, I was excited to learn that he is preparing another KOKOPELLI adventure. Stay tuned!

Richly Illustrated Book & Incredible Story.......2003-08-22
I am a 16-year-old Kokopelli fanatic, and while this book tells a story different from the hunchbacked fluteplayer's that we're used to, it is still amazing. Full of beautiful lessons about love, respect, nature, harmony, kindness, etc., it tells the tale of Kokopelli and how he finds the woman he loves.
Don't Miss This Book.......2001-11-08
My daughter and I love to read, and now we have a new favorite book! Kokopelli and the Butterfly is a beautiful story for both children and adults. The pictures are amazing and the writing brings you right into the story. I strongly recommend this book to anyone who appreciates family time and wants to encourage reading at home! The book is sized so your child can sit in your lap and hold half of the book while the parent holds the other half. Really neat!
Kokopelli Has His Heart In The Right Place.......2000-12-12
What a wonderful book! The dedication of this book to strengthening the bond between parent and child and to promoting book reading in this day of MTV and violent video games make _Kokopelli & The Butterfly_ a true winner! But that's not all! It has a beautiful story with some of the most colorful, eye-appealing illustrations I have ever seen! The pictures will keep a child's attention now and the story of love, nature and goodness will stay with the reader forever. Bravo! This book should be in the hands of every child.

Very Morbid book.......2007-06-30
Not just Collosus dies in this book. This book is full of death of long time x-men characters. As for quality, this book seems typical of the late 90s art styles.
I don't know if it was for all of them, or just a defect on mine, but on a few pages there were errors of printing, that the word bubbles on 2 pages were flipped.
It's on ok book, but there are lots of better X-books out there. The final issue of the book, with Kitty Pryde delivering Peter's ashes to Russia is 5 stars by itself.
Pass On This.......2005-06-10
Colossus returned in the pages of Astonishing X-Men over six months ago. You can find this brillant story (Courteous of Joss Wheton) in the TBP "Gifted." If anything, pick it up for John Cassidy's stunning art. As for "Dream's End," pass on it because this is another vain attempt on the part of Marvel to cash in on a grossly irrelevant storyline.
Eh........2005-03-24
This is about The Death of Colossus, right? So why's he brought in at the end? A slow, turgid ale, full of fits & starts, this doesn't really explain why Colossus dies, nor Why he Dies [if you get my drift]. His death is a mere bagatalle, an on-screen off-screen [i.e, unimportant] event.
Dull, dull, dull. For -X-men- completists only.
Thanks Joss Whedon.......2005-01-25
Why am I thanking the creator of Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel and current scribe of Astonishing X-Men? Because he helped make this ridiculous storyarc a thing of the past when he recently brought beloved X-Man Colossus back to life, that's why. Dream's End collects various X-issues, including Uncanny X-Men #390 in which the steel skinned mutant meets his maker when he sacrifices his life to put an end to the Legacy Virus. When this storyline appeared, I was completely turned off of Marvel and other mainstream comics, and when I heard of Scott Lobdell's "brilliant" idea, I found myself justified in my decision. The issues collected in this TPB really were the end of an era: comic master Grant Morrison would be recruited to put his own original spin on the X-Men, and any of his collected editions, as well as Whedon's current issues of Astonishing X-Men, are much more worth your time then this TPB. Most of the art is solid, but in the end, Dream's End is better left on the shelf.

Relativity made clear.......2000-01-19
This is the best introductory exposition of relativity theory ever written. As a book, it occupies that strange middle ground between fiction and non-fiction, much like the Magic Schoolbus books (where should the librarian put them?), but it is for a somewhat older age group. By somewhat older, I mean only that it has fewer pictures: I'd put it in with all the Milton Bradley/Parker Brothers games, and say it's for ages 8 to 80. For ANYONE who is interested in relativity, no matter what their age, this book is a perfect place to start. Check your library, and if you can't find it try to place an "out of print" order. This book is a gem.

These family friendly recipes are great for every day and entertaining as well. They are well researched and reliable. It's possible to do so much more than you ever believed with the help of a good book, written by a fabulous cook!
great book.......2007-03-27
this is a great book for beginners and advanced cooks. wonderful receipes for the food processor.
Awesome - must have cookbook.......2007-03-04
I just bought myself a food processor and thought it would be good to have a book to help me use it more. This book is awesome. I have only had it a few weeks but everything I've made has been excellent. The Crusty French Bread is THE BEST BREAD I have ever made. It took maybe two minutes of mixing and the rest of the time was waiting. It was so easy. I also tried the make-and-bake pizza. Again, maybe two minutes of mixing and the dough was ready to go and it was perfect.
What I love is the recipies use everyday ingredient, not fancy stuff and they are easy to read and easy to execute. I read the entire section on "Using your food processor" first. I have lots of cookbooks, but clearly this is one that will get referenced often.
If you are considering purchasing this book, don't hesitate, it is excellent.
Wonderful Product!.......2007-01-30
This book is very well laid out with recipes of all sorts. It gives you tips and tricks that are great for the beginner as well as the expert. I highly recommend it!
Customer Reviews:
Wonderful book.......2007-09-16
I had just lost my beloved collie to cancer. There was no time to prepare for her loss. By the time we discovered the tumor on her spine, she was beyond hope. I had no choice but to end her suffering and I felt very guilty in not being able to do more for her. This book helped me tremendously. I highly recommend it to anyone who has lost a pet or who is anticipating a loss. Very well written and comforting.
Compassionate and soothing.......2007-08-25
First off the book starts by explaining pets are not "petty". The author does not really like the term "pet" and really neither do I. I knew if we were on the same page with this that his book was going to help me.
This book was VERY helpful to me in going through the grieving process for my little parakeet Peridot. The author addresses the reader with very compassionate and understanding language. It's as if he knows you're having a tough enough time without getting too flowery on the language. One thing the helped me tremendously was Mr. Kowalski tells the reader you have to take time for yourself. Sounds so simple but I was grieving so badly I was not thinking of anyone else, especially me. He also covers different scenarios of how your pet passed, like if your pet were hit by a car or if your pet has to be euthanized. One thing I wish he would have touched on was if your pet was alone when they passed. Peridot was at the vets in the hospital and the vet tech found her in the morning. I so wish someone could have been with her. I remembered Mr. Kowalski from his appearances on the Oprah Winfrey show several years ago. That is why I chose this book. He is a quiet-spoken gentle man and this comes through as he helps the reader through their time of grief. I highly recommend this book to anyone going through the loss of their furred, feathered, or scaled loved one.
Wonderful book.......2007-07-30
I bought this book a few years ago when my 16 year old cat died. Since then I have pulled it out 2 more times when other animals have passed away. As we approach the end of my 15 year old lab's life I have once again pulled the book out to help me through this tough decision. I have also bought this book for MANY other people who have faced the death of their pet. I cannot tell you how much it helps. This book helps you deal with the grief in soo many ways, you realize other people feel the same way you do and you should not be embarassed by your feelings.
If you have lost a pet or have an older animal, please read this book, it will help the grieving proccess so much!
A Sweet Book.......2007-05-26
I began reading books about pet loss just days after losing my beloved EmmyLee, a 14 year old mixed terrier.
Some books seem clinical. This was rather sweet. I didn't get much from it till the last few chapters. It is possible that my frame of mind just wasn't in it, but towards the end, I couldn't put it down.
It does help.
Highly recommended for every pet "guardian".......2007-05-15
I bought this book 6 months ago in dreaded preparation of the inevitable. On May 12th, 2007, we euthanized our beloved 13-year old cat, Kyra. She was the oldest of our family of five cats and is greatly missed.
Yes, we have four other cats but as any pet guardian knows, each and every animal is unique and we love each one independently and unconditionally. They are our family.
I took this book with us to the animal hospital and read one of the selections in the back before Kyra was euthanized. After I assisted with Kyra's transition, I had to learn how to handle my own emotions as well as my husband's. How were my other cats going to handle it? I felt lost and the pain was so great. After spending the next 30+ hours crying off and on and grieving, I picked up this book and read it cover to cover. Rev. Kowalski's words immediately gave me comfort in knowing we did what was right and responsible for Kyra. She knew it was her time and we respected that. She gave us such joy and love. Our grief will take time to heal and there will undoubtedly be more crying, but mixed with our tears will be smiles and fond memories of the wonderful cat that shared our lives.
I highly recommend this book to any pet guardian. The chapters are short, to the point and powerful in their messages. It gave me all the answers I was looking for. I hope it helps you as it helped me and my family.
Book Description
In the early days of television, people attempted to protect themselves from the new machines with bright talismans--creative lamps that provided back light that was believed to protect the eyes. These lamps took on fantastic forms, the most popular among them being panthers and other animals like Siamese cats. They came in any number of forms, though, and sometimes doubled as vases or planters. Herein nearly 400 photos explore the many forms of TV lamps, from a barnyard full of horses, roosters, ducks, and swans, to all manner of conveyances like boats, wagons, and cars, and an international collection of people and faces. Current market values are provided for the collector and antiques dealer.
