Book Description
Friesshardt and Leuthold lay on the ground beside the pole, feeling very sore and bruised, and thought that perhaps, on the whole, they had better stay there. There was no knowing what the crowd might do after this, if they began to fight again. So they lay on the ground and made no attempt to interfere with the popular rejoicings. What they wanted, as Arnold of Sewa might have said if he had been there, was a few moments' complete rest. Leuthold's helmet had been hammered with sticks until it was over his eyes and all out of shape, and Friesshardt's was very little better.

A Simple Tale Told Simply, By A Master.......2006-07-22
This early example of Wodehouse's whimsy is perfect for reading aloud to a child before bedtime, or for enjoying ones' self no matter the age. The tale of Tell is not well known by many these days-- learn a little history (well, legend) and enjoy Wodehouse's always- sparkling prose and verse in this extended fable.
One hundred years later, he's still hard to beat for humor.
Reminiscent of _1066 and All That_, but without the accuracy or humor.......2006-01-22
The basic conceit of Wodehouse's part of this book was to tell a version of the legend of William Tell as if all the characters were ordinary English idiots of the early twentieth century. The effect is rather like that of _1066 and All That_, but without the accuracy, and hence without the humor. Wodehouse's prose was written to accompany verse by John W. Houghton, which in turn was written to accompany illustrations by Philip Dadd. I haven't seen the illustrations, but the verse is much worse than Wodehouse's prose; I'm sure he could could have done it better himself. Wodehouse's style was quite good even early in his career, so the book is readable; it's just not worth reading if you can read his later work instead.
An early masterpiece.......2001-08-15
One of Wodehouse's earliest efforts, this is a must-own for any Wodehouse fan. Still written in the days when the master was doing school tales, one can see precusors of that incredible ability that Wodehouse had, to take the English language to places few others could have imagined it could go to. A simple tale of good triumphing over evil - it is one of those rare Wodehouses (probably the only one) in which a character dies. In his later & much more celebrated efforts, one got the feeling that all his characters were ageless & immortal.

No better than the first, there was no grab.......2005-12-13
I didn't mind the first book of the series too much, I thought it was mildly entertaining and the characters were just like the "ultimate PC" in any Dark Sun setting, but that was about all it had.
I made my way through the first 1/4 of the book and the writing style remained the same as The Verdant Passage. Still too wordy and self-indulgent and the characters were still pretty stiff and hollow and the flow of the plot was still jerky and fueled by battles.
Nothing captured my attention in this book, so I gave up. I moved on to the Dragon Prince series by Melanie Rawn, a story- and character-driven series.
If you like long written battle scenes and don't mind stereotypical super-characters, I would recommend this series. Or if you just want to read a tounge-in-cheek unwitting parody of RPG players.
HECKA SCARY WORLD THAT IS ATHAS.......2002-02-26
I really enjoy this series. The world of Athas is bleak, unforgiving and downright frightening. This book is chock full of action and fighting. Former slaves and gladiators track down an opposition army throughout the deserts of Athas. It culminates in a battle that is fantastic.
Side note: The halfling assasins are terrifying in this book! I'll never look at a Hobbit the same way.
Very good fantasy book........2000-03-13
This is a tale about a half-dwarf gladiator who led a legion of slaves to freedom. I think the Dark Sun series is even better than the typical AD&D books. Remember when they say to not judge a book by its cover? Well, the cover of this book depicts the COOLEST looking fantasy warrior I've seen!
Excellent reading for fantasy fans!.......2000-01-18
The world of Dark Sun gets better with The Crimson Legion. This is by far the best fantasy series I have ever read. From the characters to the action to the unique magic - Dark Sun will never stop surprising you. Rikus, a former gladiator, wages war and allies himself with a variety of creaures unlike the classic elves, dwarves, and humans of most fantasy books on the shelves. Although this is not the best book in the series it is a must read for any serious fantasy fan.
A great purchase, great book, little money.......1999-07-03
If you play the RPG, this book it's an excellent element for your campaign, and if you don't, please don't hesitate BUY IT NOW!!.I read the spanish version (I'm from Argentina) and i think it's one of the best books I have ever read. Also the entire saga of Pent Prism books is just great.

Tactics of Mistaken Foreboding.......2007-06-20
When I first grabbed this book of the shelf of a local hole in the wall bookstore I expected another crummy science fiction novel with an entirely predictable plot so similar to the countless others I had read that it would leave me wondering why countless copyright infringement suites have not been filed by sci-fi authors. After reading the book in two sittings I found that I could not have been more wrong.
The book tells the story of Donal Graeme, a man with a single-minded vision of greatness that he attempts to achieve through a revolutionary new military might. However, all of his plans hang upon the thread of his theories, which he calls, the tactics of mistake. He allows his opponent to continue making small single victories, deceiving him into the belief that if he commits his forces he can achieve ultimate victory, and then traps them in the middle of their mistake and defeats them. Of course if he is wrong, all that he has striven for will end in utter chaos.
I recommend this book for anyone who enjoys Sci-Fi but it looking for something new in that genre. Also for anyone who wants an exciting page turner that will grip you and keep you on the edge of your seat until the very end.

The Bush Family Cookbook: Favorite Recipes and Stories from One of America's Great Families .......2007-03-09
Really a good book
Great read!.......2006-03-27
Ariel is to be commended for his stick -to -it- ness and his family who all sound wonderful. I enjoyed reading about him as much as the Bushes. And the recipes were different and good!
Bush Family Cookbook.......2006-02-27
Some good recipes that I would try, but also some that I probably wouldn't.
Superb Job!!!.......2006-02-14
I bought this cookbook after having read an article in The Houston Chronicle. Then, I bought it as soon as it came out and flew home to try out the recipes. I've only been able to try one, so far, but look forward to the others. What a great cookbook and wonderful book to read as well! We just made a trip to the Bush Library in College Station too and having already read the cookbook helped put even more fun and excitement into the tour. If you're a cook or just love the Bush family, like we do, you definitely have to add this to your collection. We can't get enough of the Bush Family around here! Their sense of humor and undying faith are a blessing in this world today! Can't wait for '43's book and library either! Thanks for everything! The Ball Family, Houston
Bush cook book.......2006-02-05
With the plethora of cookbooks available, you sort of have to wonder what the point of this one is.
Does anybody think that any publisher would seriously consider publishing a cookbook by a man whose total culinary credentials appear to consist of (1) Navy mess cook and (2) private cook to one family?
Ariel de Guzman is probably a nice man & a perfectly competent cook, but it is unlikely he would be a PUBLISHED cook without the "Bush" tag.
A number of the recipes sound quite good--but it's a little alarming, I must say, with all we have learned about nutritional values, to read that Mr. de Guzman thinks canned vegetables are "more nutritious than fresh."
One of the previous reviewers commented that "last year, at President Bush's yearly checkup at the doctor's, it was determined that he is as healthy as a well trained athelete...so the recipes are not bad for you." I think maybe that reviewer is a bit confused. I have to assume he or she is referring to the yearly physical of the CURRENT President Bush, not the former one. Ariel de Guzman is the former president's cook.
I would assume the present President Bush, who has not lived with his parents for many years, only occasionally eats de Guzman's food, so his reportedly splendid physical condition is due to other culinary influences. (I understand that Mrs. Laura Bush monitors the present President's intake of calorie and cholesterol laden foods quite closely.)
btw, I do rather resent the gratuitous description, by one of the reviewers, of President Clinton as a "grifter." This is, presumably, a COOK book, not a POLITICAL book. Let's try to keep those sorts of comments for the reviews of political books.

An Eye For A Dog.......2007-10-07
This was purchsed as a present for my sister in law. She was very impressed with it as she is a Judge for working dogs and this will help her a lot.
What a complete book!.......2007-06-14
If you want to be a serious breeder, judge or handler this book is a must have. There are secrets in the show rings and whelping boxes that only the best and most successful breeders know. It doesn't come around often when a breeder will open up their head and give you a glimpse of what makes a great show dog. This book will show you with a ton of pictures and diagrams the subtle differences between beautiful and drop dead gorgeous. New and old alike can benefit from this book. People tell you to go and sit ring side and you still don't see? Next time take this book and go sit ring side and see just what they mean. Ever had a handler tell you to hold a leash or a head a certain way and you didn't know why? Next time you will with the help of this book. Check it out for yourself.

Not that clear.......2007-05-31
This book is not that easy to follow if you haven't already studied about structura and gait. which bone and muscle do what? why is it that this breed has a longer pastern than the other? why would a dog need to be under or overangulated? etc. Anyway, you should acompany this book with some other about structure and gait analysis so that you can really understand the difference between the dogs illustrated in this book and also study the breeds standards. Definetely not for beginners.
REAL INFORMATION.......2007-02-01
I found this book brilliant to learn about what to look for in judging a dog for conformation , as it tests you as you go you really have to think and learn and imediately know your mistakes And its clearly written

Bring a Dog Dictionary..........2007-01-04
I can't argue with everyone who gave this book the glowing reviews it's received. I bought it hoping it could help me understand exactly what it is that dog show judges are looking at when they watch the dogs trot around them in a show ring. Even as a breed enthusiast, I mainly tend to notice whether the dog is the right color and generally looks like the breed it is supposed to be. Those qualities in place, a collie is a collie as far as I could tell, so what set one apart from the rest was beyond me.
I will say that the book was excellent for taking my understanding of conformation beyond that point. I was able to understand the subtle differences in form and structure that the author describes, and by the end of the book I could pick out specific faults in the illustrations.
But... the book is not written with the everyday person in mind. It is full of lofty dog terminology, for one thing, and while an effort is made to explain the terminology somewhat, the definitions given are rather lofty and vague as well. A big example is the concept of 'balance', which is the concept upon which the whole judging schtick is based. The author tries to explain what he considers 'balance' to mean, but the explanation did not leave me with a very concrete understanding of what, exactly, I should be looking for.
Moreover, all of the illustrations given are line drawings similar to what is shown on the cover. They are excellent for the purpose they serve, but I found it difficult to move from the crisp, static lines of a sketch to the fluid dynamic lines of a real dog. If feel this would be easier if I'd pictures of actual dogs to look at as well as the line drawings.
Overall, though, I feel the book was worth reading and worth having. Hopefully as I get more involved with dog shows, it will become even more useful to me.

Book Description
When his family's Christmas tree stand collapsed, shattering their collection of 2,000 vintage European glass ornaments, Christopher Radko suffered a double loss. Not only were the irreplaceable treasures gone, but with them vanished a tangible link to past holidays and warm memories of family and friends. Searching for replacements, he realized they were difficult to find, and began a business that almost single-handedly revived the all-but-forgotten European tradition of mouth-blown, hand-painted glass ornaments. Now hundreds of these "memories in the making," as Christopher calls them, are on display in
Christopher Radko's Ornaments, the first book devoted to all fourteen years of his delightful designs.
Each chapter is dedicated to a different category of ornament, from traditional styles to new ones inspired by the world's far-flung cultures, from jolly representations of Santa in all his guises to charming depictions of people, food, and animals of holiday lore. Throughout the book, sidebars offer an array of Christopher's own tips on how to light and trim a tree and decorate the entire house with ornaments, as well as fascinating information on the ornaments themselves. Lavishly illustrated with more than 275 full-color photographs and packed with personal anecdotes,
Christopher Radko's Ornaments captures the heart of Christmas and encourages us to celebrate its message of giving and caring, one ornament at a time.

An amazing and insightful look at masochistic art practices!.......1998-10-16
O'Dell's text is one of the few, and quite possibly the best, exploration into the often misunderstood "masochistic" art practices in 1970s America. Covering five artists (Vito Acconci, Ulay & Abramovic, Gina Pane, and Chris Burden), Contract With the Skin offers the reader thought-provoking ideas about what masochism in performance art REALLY means. (It's not about pain, per se.) Kathy O'Dell forces the reader to re-think their assumptions about art practice, and sheds new light on problematic subject matter.

Malcolm X and Louis Farrakhan get more attention, but Elijah Muhammad indelibly defined the Nation of Islam from the time he assumed its leadership in 1934 until his death in 1975. This much-needed book illuminates the impact of Muhammad's personal history on the movement, particularly its stress on economic independence for black Americans. Historian Claude Andrew Clegg's balanced appraisal acknowledges Muhammad's financial and sexual misdeeds but credits him with promoting racial pride and "moral living." Clegg makes a strong case for the Nation of Islam being "as homegrown as the NAACP or the Ku Klux Klan."
Book Description
The compelling biography of Elijah Muhammad. The visionary leader whose ideals and political actions have shaped a century of African-American History.
Elijah Muhammed, the founding father of The Nation of Islam and the forbear to Louis Farrahkhan, has no emerged as one of the most significan black leaders of this century. Claude Andrew Clegg II examines Muhammad's life from his birth in 1897 in Georgia, to his creation of the American Nation of Islam, to his final split with Malcolm X. Through this brilliant biography, we are finally able to understand the origins of Islam and black nationalism that has helped form the consciousness of African-American society for the last half-century.
Customer Reviews:
The HATE that HATE produced!.......2006-02-11
Bravo to Brother Claude for providing the world with a very insightful and informative body of work on Elijah Muhammad. As a former registered member of the Nation of Islam, Brother Claude eliminated many gray areas that pre-1975 believers did not know or would not talk about, while post-1975 believers don't spend enough time in understanding what they are involved with, how they are seen by the outside world, and how all these things shape their development.
Several questions do arise however.
1.) Do we as hueman beings really have a conceptualization of how GOD works?
2.) If we look at the history of the arabian prophet MUHAMMAD(pbuh), can the way the prophet's 23 year propogation of islam show similar growing pains as the NOI?
3.) Why was the government of the United States, the arab muslim world and the european powers so focused on exposing and or eliminating Elijah Muhammad and the NOI? What do they fear?
4.) Why do so many readers always compare BLACK race first groups and their ideologies, with the worst white dictators and evil peoples known in the 20th century?
5.) Can we say the the Nation of Islam and Elijah Muhammad were made in America due to the repeated murders, lynchings, tortures, burnings and rapings done by the BLACK man and woman's open enemy?
6.) Is Elijah Mhammad theologically correct in his assertions?
7.) Did not the prophets of all of the known and unknown religions incur the same kind of dismissal, corruptions, and humanness that this man and the NOI demonstrated?
8.) Why is it that for 44-years, Elijah Muhammad never backed down from believing that he was the Messenger from ALLAH, nor doubting what Fard Muhammad instructed him in?
9.) Who is behind the raising up of the student Malcolm X in the public, and not his teacher?
To contextualize an Original Man for today, read William Blum's work Rogue State.
Thanks again Brother Claude for the spirit in which you researched and wrote this book...it is much needed! ALLAHU-AKBAR!
Brilliant, Revealing Biography Of A Misunderstood Leader.......2005-03-08
Perhaps the most balanced, informative piece of literature on the controversial leader of the Nation of Islam: Elijah Muhammad. Mr. Clegg presents a totally non-biased exposé of Elijah, void of any judgmental stances so frequently found in writings of this nature. Although not always flattering, it is a MUST read for anyone seeking to understand the early years of the Nation of Islam, Elijah Muhammad's life and the organization's rise to prominence within African-American communities throughout the country. Many of the misnomers attributed to this organization and its founder are dispelled, as are a great deal of the ambiguities regarding the inner-workings of the N.O.I. Additionally, there is valuable information regarding the relationship between Elijah and Malcolm X that reaches far beyond Alex Haley's writing. I highly recommend it!
A man for blacks and his pocket.......2005-02-10
Elijah Muhammad was a man that was impacted by the society around him. This book very much illustrates that. Though he had 13 children out of wedlock(taken from the notes at the end of the book) he still did alot for black people. He gave black people a sense of pride and worth away from the European Christian sense. However his corruption from pride and the love of attention led to much of his corrution, and that of the Nation of Islam. For example in one part of the end notes it says that he used to oppose blacks driving in fancy expensive cars, but he did it himself. He was banking on the nation, and I guess if you tell yourself what your doing is right eventually no matter how wrong it is you will believe it. Overall I liked the book sieng as it wasn't a position tring to sway you to the faith. It clearly showed what he did for the black people in creating this Nation of Islam, and what he subtracted from blacks by mans own corruption.
A Masterful Work.......2002-05-16
I couldn't put this book down. This is easily the best work on the Nation of Islam to date. Clegg has done some impressive research and has a deep knowledge of Elijah Muhammad and the Nation of Islam. He presents the material in a well-written, intelligent way, without the biases that one would assume that such a topic would provoke. This is first-rate scholarship. I hope the author considers doing a similar biography of Malcolm X or Louis Farrakhan.
