Customer Reviews:
Very Bittersweet.......2004-10-05
Let us hope that the quality of the stories does not spiral downward anymore now that Marion Zimmer Bradley is dead. There are a few really good stories, a lot of pretty decent ones, and a few that outright suck. I was looking for the quality of stories from, for example, Out of Avalon. Diane Paxton, Jennifer Roberson, etc. they are excellent authors. There just were not many of their quality in this volume. Plus the book was so small. I like to have a big book filled with stories to read. But that's just a personal preferecne I suppose and i'm not knocking off points for that. The one missing star is due to the lack of quality in a few of the stories. They are very well done for ametur authors, but perhaps not up to what Bradley may have desired if she were still around.
The previus volumes are filled with absolutely wonderful tales, let us just hope that this is the runt of the series and continue upward and onward.
Solid entry in this ongoing series.......2003-09-10
I disagree with some of the previous reviews. The overall quality of the stories is okay. I think the real problem is that there are no really outstanding stories in this volume. The stories I liked best were by Charles Saplak, Lisa Deason and Deborah J. Ross. Unfortunately, most of the other stories are simply not memorable enough. I hope that the next volume will be as good as some of the early volumes. By the way, Diana L. Paxson will step in as editor.
Disappointing Entry in Series.......2003-09-06
I think this is the worst entry in the Sword and Sorceress series. Yes, there are a few writers that have written for the series before--Dorthy Heydt and Diana Paxton--and even their stories don't measure up to previous efforts. The overall volume was generally uninspired and suffers from poor editing. The them was finding your true self or true path, but this theme didn't come through consistently in all the stories. Hopefully, the next book will be much better.
The last one? Not yet.......2003-08-23
As usual, MZB and her able staff have collected a wide range of stories. Many old favorites are back, along with some rarely seen writers. I have to say that I was not as happy overall with the quality of the stories as I have been in previous collections. Also, their proofreading/editing department needs to shape up a bit, I have never seen so many errors in one printing. The usual short funny story for the last entry is not present, being replaced by the homily given at MZB's funeral. The good news is that, despite published story to the contrary, this is NOT the last volume planned. I hope that the quality improves for the very last one.
Very uneven, not up to MZB's high standards.......2003-08-13
This reads like what it is: the bottom of the slush pile for S&S XVIII. There are some interesting ideas here, but no good STORIES. The editing is poor; there are many inconsistencies in storylines and "spell-check" proofreading, which completely destroys the meaning of the sentence, or even the story itself. I don't want to have to puzzle out what the author meant, that always take me out of a story. I finished the anthology last night and that's all I remember: misspelled words and grammatical errors on nearly every page.
I see that the publishers are going to continue the series past XX, which I think is a mistake. It would have been better to let XIX stand in tribute to Marion Zimmer Bradley. Ms. Bradley was an excellent editor, which, sadly, the so-called editors of this book are manifestly NOT.
I give it 2 stars for some of the ideas and because it's not wholly unreadable. However, I doubt I will waste my money on S&S XXI.

Another Amazing Story!.......2006-03-16
In this sometimes cynical world, how refreshing to find yourself really caring whether or not the characters you read about get back together. Mr. Klimczak writes with sensitivity and real understanding that love 'can', 'should' and hopefully 'will' prevail. After reading this and his other book, Falling in the Garden, you can certainly call me a fan and I am looking forward to more!
An Incredible Read.......2006-01-19
I love time-travel stories and Klimczak's "Timefront" series does not disappoint. He has obviously done his research and his engaging writing style keeps the reader glued to the story without ever cheating the reader with contrivances that other authors resort to in time-travel tales. It's fresh and well-crafted from beginning to end. I eagerly await the next installment...

SO small SO cute.......2007-09-21
It doesnt have that much information, but the book is interesting, it worth the money
A great book for wine parties and events........2005-12-20
This is an excellent palm sized book that any wine lover - novice or expert - would enjoy having. It makes the `perfect' gift for wine tasting parties or as a stocking stuffer for the holidays. The book includes brief lessons on wine buying, wine storage, wine tasting and food paring, etc. Since they are `brief' lessons some wine experts might be hesitant to buy this book, but the thing I love most about this book was the wine related quotes that are inter-spread throughout the book. I think everyone would enjoy these quotes, and are worth the price of the book itself. Here are some of my favorite quotes from the book:
`In Vino Veritas.' - Pliny
`I feast on wine and bread, and feasts they are' - Michelangelo
`Wine is light held together by moisture.' - Galileo Galilei
A Great Party Bag Item!.......2002-06-19
This is an absolute must-have if you're having a wine tasting party. These cute palm-size books make excellent thank-you gifts or party bag gifts for those attending your tasting. And, they can easily be carried about as you shop at your favorite store for a wine to go with the evening's meal.
Product Description
Cancer is leading cause of death in dogs and cats over ten years old; 47% of dogs and 32% of cats will die from cancer in their later lives. Fifty percent of all pet cancers are completely curable and many others can be successfully treated. An award-winning veterinarian and writer team up to present the latest research and treatments to save your beloved pet from cancer in "Cancer and Your Pet." A growing number of pet owners are learning the sad news that their beloved pet is suffering from some form of cancer. But most dont realize that it has become a highly treatable disease. Written by a highly respected author-veterinarian and covering the latest advances in the field of cancer research, "Cancer and Your Pet" is the most comprehensive and definitive guide on the market for owners looking for options in their pets treatment. In addition to information on common cancers and treatment options, including traditional and holistic care, the authors include case studies and advice on decision making.
Customer Reviews:
Cancer and Your Pet.......2007-03-15
Good information for people going through the struggle of cancer with their pet.
Good overview of cancer treatments in dogs and cats.......2007-02-08
looks at both conventional and alternative options. I did not find alot on what I was looking for: lung tumours in dogs but on the general topic this book was very informative .
Potentially helpful, reassuring, alarming........2006-12-08
A clear, comprehensive, sensible introduction and overview--as much information as the non-professional needs. There's one area that may set off unnecessary alarms. The author gives encouraging news and advice concerning pets with cancer, treatments, and prognosis with one notable exception: cancer that has been caused by vaccination, for which, the author says, there is no cure. This led me to do a Google search and discover similar grim information, except magnified and multiplied.
The truth appears to be that the problem--although a cause-effect connection has been established in some instances--is extremely rare and that worse harm may be inflicted upon a pet by not vaccinating it. I learned the foregoing not from my local vet but by driving kitty across state to the University of Wisconsin Veterinary School--which in addition to addressing the concern about vaccinations was able to determine that my local vet's diagnosis of cancer was a misdiagnosis (common bacterial infections can lead to limping, bone erosion and other symptoms of cancer).
Good general overview.......2006-01-20
My cat way diagnosed with cancer about 5 months ago. I found this book to be the most helpful in understanding her cancer (GI lymphoma) without being overly filled with jargon. It was also the best on helping me understand the treatments available (and why some weren't for my cat) but I wish it had gone into more technical detail about the various medications and what they do for chemotherapy. Unfortunately, none of the books I found provided that information. I like the fact that the book separates out discussion on dogs and cats. I would definitely recommend this book for anyone with a pet with cancer.
The Most Up-To-Date book on Cancer and Pets.......2005-09-26
Hi there, this is Margaret H Bonham, the co-author of Cancer and Your Pet. Unlike some authors who have a secret agenda when it comes to treating cancer, both Deb and I wanted you to get all the information out there when it comes to cancer and your pet.
When your pet has cancer, it's a scary time for you. You don't know who to turn to for advice. Quite frankly, most cancer is curable or we can do something about it. It's very important to understand the options, whether conventional or holistic.
This book gives a good overview to each of the cancers you're likely to run across in dogs and cats and the modes of treatment currently available. We talk about cancer research -- what's the latest thing out there and how you can get involved in cutting-edge studies. We also about decision-making -- is this something you can afford and how far do you wish to go when treating the cancer? We talk about care for the cancer patient and how to recognize an emergency versus whether this is really a problem. We even cover holistic options -- something most books either don't cover or cover to the point of excluding other highly successful conventional treatments.
Both Deb and I have had dogs who died from cancer. We know what you're going through. Check out our book. You'll be glad you did.

The second edition of the popular Linns Stamp Identifier is now available. It has been thoroughly revised and updated with more than 500 new listings and stamp photographs, and has been given a user-friendly spiral binding. The up-to-date alphabetical listing of stamp inscriptions includes sections of Greek and Cyrillic inscriptions. Greek, Cyrillic and Hindi alphabets are found in the second section of the Identifier. The remaining 133 pages are devoted to illustrations of difficult-to-identify stamps that will aide the user in answering the age-old question, "What stamp is this?" [2004,b&w illustrations, spiral bound]
Customer Reviews:
Probably the best but still I want more..........2005-12-06
The is probably the best English language identifier but I still find a lot of stamps that aren't listed here. I wish the editors would start with page one of the Scott catalogs and list every word on every stamp. A Herculean task? Maybe but much more useful. Still, though, for the price, this is a very nice guide that will serve all collectors very well.

Customer Reviews:
Not rated.......2002-10-17
Have not had a chance to work any patterns from this book. Robyn Pandolph's fabric is pretty.
Beautiful book, beautiful projects.......2001-07-05
I had the pleasure of taking an applique workshop offered once a month for a year at my local quilt shop with Ms Pandolph. I enjoyed the workshop and Robyn and her designs. I bought this book after browsing a friends copy. I especially like having the patterns on the cd. I wasn't sure about it at first but after decorating one of my daughter's hats, a pair of overalls and one of my jumpers, by altering the size of the patterns, I was won over by the idea of having patterns on the computer.
I recommend this book to anyone who enjoys applique and Robyns lovely designs. And it is alot of fun playing with the designs in the different color schemes on the computer, so much easier than trying to figure them out in "real life"!!
Stitched with Love, and sent to the reader with love..........2001-05-31
I am a fan of Robyn's fabrics and I love her style. This book just radiates her soft touch. I so much enjoy going through the book. The patterns are so do-able and she suggests so many other uses for each pattern and idea. The CD-ROM is a great addition as you can print the patterns in the size you want and for the project you are working on. The CD also allows you to "try out" different fabrics and different looks for each pattern.
This is one of my favorites!
True Quilting Entertainment.......2001-01-21
Here are some excerpts from my review of this book. You can see the complete review on the Quilter's Review website.
"...'Stitched With Love' includes clear how-to instructions and recipes. Not only do you see photos of quilts, you see these cute quilts in rooms showing the other projects included in this book. The beautiful double-page photos by Mark Packo make you think you are looking at a decorating magazine instead of a quilting book...."
"Robyn's easy applique patterns look real nice in her vintage fabrics, but I would like to make the quilts in bright colors for baby shower gifts. She anticipated this by including a nursery brights palette along with a country colors palette and a contemporary fabrics palette.
"There's also a teaching video on the CD-ROM, in which Robyn shows her method of needle-turn applique step by step. The best part of this video is that each step is a separate mini-video, making it easy to repeatedly watch just the pieces on which you need clarification...."
Stitched with Love: A Mother's Quilting Legacy - R Pandolph.......2001-01-06
This is a delightful book with lots of different design ideas for other applications included. You will perfect your applique skills doing these quilt designs. The only bad thing is that you MUST have a CD rom and a printer to retrive the patterns as they are NOT printed in the book itself.
Book Description
A reprint of two rare catalogs (circa 1908–1910) delineating the early achievement of furniture makers (brothers of Gustav Stickley) who played a key role in the Arts & Crafts movement in America, with captioned illustrations of over 200 of their furniture designs — many rarely seen in recent years.
Customer Reviews:
This is a good book for generating ideas!.......2004-08-08
First of all I would like to say that this book is not intended to be a how-to manual of furniture plans, but rather a look into one company's past catalog during a great movement in American furniture.
The book is broken into three sections: 'Introduction', 'Saleman's Catalog', and 'Retail Plates'. The introduction includes some basic background on the importance of the Stickleys to the Arts and Crafts furniture movement. The salesman's catalog section contains a vintage price list as well as some rare black and white photographs and many sketch drawings of Stickley pieces (probably useful back then to the salesman trying to come up with just the right piece to satisfy a demanding customer). The retail plates are a collection of more intricate drawings of the Stickley furniture. These drawings are more detailed and often give basic dimentions of the furniture and a listing of the type of wood/materials found in the piece.
I have found the 260 illustrations of early Stickly furniture contained in this book to be an interesting history lesson as well as a useful tool for generating ideas in furniture design. If you are like me and really love the Arts and Crafts style, buy this book and learn more about the wide range of furniture offered by the premiere company to build it in the Unites States.

Book Description
Women have been making art for centuries, yet their work has been seen as secondary or has gone unrecognized altogether. Women Making Art asks why this is so, and what it would take for us to realize the extent of women's extraordinary contribution to the arts. Marsha Meskimmon mobilizes contemporary feminist thinking to reconsider how and why women have made art. She examines work by a wide range of women artists from different cultures and historical periods, including Rebecca Horn, Rachel Whiteread, Shirin Neshat and Maya Lin, emphasizing the diversity of women's art and the importance of differences between women.

EVERY BLACK SHOULD READ!!.......2007-06-28
This book was the best, motivational sista to sista book I have EVER read! This will be my Christmas gift to all my family and friends! This book moved me to become a better oriented adult in my life and marriage! I LOVE IT!!
great gift part 2.......2006-02-28
beautiful work to compliment "Black Women For Beginners"
it was one of a kind.
One of the best books I've ever read.......2003-11-19
I'm a 21 year old African American woman and I picked up this book at my campus bookstore. I started reading it and could not put it down. I had been looking for something that I could relate to and this was exactly the book. It took me through a range of emotions and eventually brought me to a better place. It was like I had lots of aunts, cousins, grandmas, and moms giving me advice. I'm buying one for all of my friends this Christmas.
Wonderful!.......2002-07-31
A beautiful, oftentimes tear-jerking compilation of some of the most poignant personal essays of black women's triumphs over life's tragedies and the things that make them appreciate life and give them a reason for living. This book will definitely encourage all of us to believe that things will only get better with time for no pain lasts forever if we truly believe.
I highly recommend it!
Encouragement.......2002-01-29
This book include essays from all types of women, about everyday problems that women go through. You can learn something from each of the ladies included in this book. The two essays that most stand out for me is To a Son of a Dear friend by jean Buchanan, it's the sad letter to the author's late best friend's son about growing up with his mom. I am just tryin to live Holy by Pamela Shine is about a 40 year old virgin tryin to find love. I think everyone will love this collection of essay, and relate.
