Book Description
Guinevere is widely acknowledged as the most extraordinary woman in legend. From golden child to Queen of Camelot to passionate adulterer, her life is a vivid an fascinating saga. In this spellbinding climax to the tale of Guinevere--which began with Guinevere and continued in The Chessboard Queen-Sharan Newman, author of the highly acclaimed Catherine LeVendeur medieval mystery series, blends magic and history to create and unforgettable tale of passion and tragedy. Here we see the discover of Guinevere's affair with Lancelot and her subsequent fall from grace; the near-futile quest for the Holy rail; and the triumph of Galahad in a final battle with the villainous Mordred. Guinevere Evermore is a heartrending portrayal of a failed romance, a fallen woman, and the end of an era. Sharan Newman's reinterpretation of the Arthurian saga is as ambitious and persuasive as The Mists of Avalon and The Hollow Hills-just as memorable.
Customer Reviews:
Poorly Done.......2003-06-11
I struggled to finish this book. I was disappointed in the trilogy to begin with and this book was DIFFICULT to continue. At about page 90, I finally sparked a tidbit of interest and decided to continue. Honestly, I was less interested in the author's conclusion of the Arthurian tale than I was simply curious to see how she wrapped up all of the loose ends she left in the other two books. Well - the answer is that she wrapped them up poorly.
Morgan Le Fay reappears from beneath the lake for just long enough to cause trouble and give a way for Arthur to die. Morgause vanishes. Guinevere's brother and his wife along with the other couple out in the woods appear only long enough for a long-lost nephew to arrive at the villa and then not another word is mentioned of them. Merlin and Geraldus make a couple of re-emergences but they are eventless. Guinevere does suddenly have a practically death-bed recollection of the unicorn but that story line is still as ridiculous as it was in book one. The quick disposal of each of the knights in a couple of paragraphs near the end and then the onset of a plague seem only to allow the author to finish the storyline without torturing us through a volume four - for that I am thankful. She culminates by throwing in two or so pages of questionable historical record as if to lend a modicum of credibility to her otherwise juvenile and fantastic tale of unicorns, misty other-worlds and undeveloped ancient religious practices.
This trilogy is amaturish, and filled with childish attempts at fantasy which do nothing to perpetuate what is normally a good tale...the ledgend of King Arthur. Weak moments of interesting writing are few and far between and only serve to link toghether the pages full of boring, uninformative blathering. Guinevere is unlikable from the start and remains so until her death. Had Guinevere truly been this boring, she'd have been forgotten long ago. I guess the worst part is that so many aspects that may have been developed and created an interesting twist on this old tale were simply ignored...as this entire trilogy should be ignored by anyone interested in a good Arthurian legend. I won't even try to explain her endless references to Guinevere's unnaturally golden hair and the fact that all three books contain cover art featuring a brunette!! - Power for the course with this series.
Stuff of legends.......2000-03-08
I have read numerous book about the Arthurian legend, but my interest has always been Guenevere. She is not always present in the most flattering light by authors, and sometimes she is only a brief mention. This book, however, is extremely well written. It presents the rise and fall of Camelot through Guenevere's perspective, and it also is very careful about presenting both sides of her story. It clearly establishes a platonic love between her and Arthur, and the eternal struggle that she faces with as her forbidden love for Lancelot grows. It also presents the deep friendship and comradery of the Round Table, as well as the anguish of her childless-ness. In this version of the story, Lancelot and her raise Galahad as their own son, even though Elaine is the real mother.
This is the final chapter of three books by the author, but the first one is unfortunately out of print. This was an excellent book.

Book Description
Senior Judges from around the world are gathering in Mega-City One to negotiate a global extradition treaty. Judge Dredd is put in charge of security, a task not made easier by the delegates having full diplomatic immunity as well as the criminal underground who will do anything to stop him; setting the stage for a devastating new weapon is about to be unleashed on the city.

Can the Big-Meg survive another Super Villain?.......2006-01-20
Wally Squad (undercover Judges), a Super Villain, a Rogue Psyker, and Dredd on the run... this book has it all.
After the last two books having taking Dredd outside of Mega-City One, this book brings us back to the home city of Judge Dredd, and it feels good to be home.
There is a lot going on in this book, and it keeps you guessing throughout. You are never quite sure which way it will turn.
In my opinion, this is the best Black Flame Judge Dredd book so far. I am hooked on this series, and if you are thinking of trying one of the Dredd novels, this is the one to try. You won't regret it.
While there is a small amount of reference to sexual activities, it is done tastefully, not graphically, and is not covered in detail.

Offer your guests a big bowl of warmth and comfort--stir up some homemade soup! Brother Victor-Antoine d'Avila-Latourrette, author of From a Monastery Kitchen, follows the months of the year with simple recipes using seasonal ingredients. The soup recipes are international as well--try some Polish Pearl Barley Soup in February and Traditional Austrian Cheese Soup in November. Brother Victor-Antoine recommends chilled soups in the summer for refreshment; June's creamy Chilled Carrot Soup features the zest of ginger and lemon, and the Cold Zucchini Soup in August is delightful with the recommended lemon basil. The simplicity of the recipes makes them suitable for beginning cooks, who will learn that a great variety of flavors can be produced just by changing the order in which the vegetables are sautéed or by using vegetable broth instead of beef bouillon. Twelve Months of Monastery Soups is a delicious introduction to the art of soup making. As Brother Victor-Antoine notes, "soup remains a faithful friend during all of life's occasions."
Book Description
"Of soup and love, the first is best." Brother Victor-Antoine makes a passionate case for this Spanish proverb in Twelve Months of Monastery Soups, bringing easy, delicious, soul-satisfying soup recipes from the monastery to your kitchen. From simple, clear broths to thick, hearty soups, there's a recipe to appeal to every taste. Arranged by month with an eye toward seasonal variety and at least one recipe for every vegetable native to North America, the 175 soups include classic favorites such as Cream of Corn and Tomato and more unique recipes such as Jerusalem Artichoke, Provenþal Rainbow, and Danish Onion-Champagne. With inspirational quotes proclaiming the goodness of soup sprinkled throughout and beautiful period block prints, Twelve Months of Monastery Soups is a celebration of the art of soup-making.

Tasty!.......2007-03-15
I bought this originally just wanting another soup cookbook, as I tend to live off soups. While other soup cookbooks seem to thrive off 20 different competing flavors, these soups thrive on their very simplicity. It makes both eating and making the soup like a meditation. You'll be amazed how a soup so simple can taste so good. You dont need tons of spices and different steps to appreciate the basic(and yummy!) taste of the vegetables.
Excellent Sourcebook for Vegans or New Cooks.......2006-08-24
'Twelve Months of Monastery Soups' is my second-favorite cookbook, by virtue of the copies I've given to other cooks. (Bernard Clayton's 'Complete Book of Soups and Stews' is #1) Complete Book of Soups and Stews
In my many years of cooking, I've enjoyed soupmaking because:
1. It doesn't take a lot of work to make a soup,
2. It is pretty hard to ruin the dish if you follow the recipe; and
3. You can make a good recipe even greater with a little ingredient experimentation and fine-tuning.
4. The more you do it, the more confident you get with your skill.
In 'Twelve Months...', Brother Victor raises the soup cooking consciousness by providing a fine variety of seasonal selections presented in a very readable recipe format.
Here are my reasons for recommending this fine soup cookbook:
Recipe Simplicity: I loathe the `Joy of Cooking' because of the cryptic recipe language it is written in. Brother Victor lays it out plain and simple here, making the construction easy for the new or challenged cook. Anyone can make one of these fine soups.
Seasonalness: The soups are arranged by month when the vegetable ingredients are most readily available and fresh. For not-too-adventuresome cooks, the combination of ingredient seasonality and recipe simplicity tempts you to try new things you'd probably never try before.
Recipe Selection: The mix of recipes is very good. Even though the selection leans heavily toward the Vegan side, there is something here for everyone. Try Clayton's book if you seek more meaty varieties.
One last thing. Several Amazon reviewers were critical of the `blandness' of the recipes. Pshaw, I say! If there isn't enough garlic, salt, pepper or spice in the recipe, I add more (and make a note of it in my cookbook.) Soup recipes should not be blindly followed, but spiced by the cook's good taste!
yummy.......2006-04-25
I bought this book for my mother, who has loved it for the last 7 years. She has systematically made every soup in the book. Aside from the beer soup... they were all delicious.
Have fun!
Delicious!.......2005-10-04
I tried several of these recipes, including cream of broccoli soup and pumpkin soup. They were quite good and simple to make, using ingredients that weren't hard to find at the store. My family enjoyed them as well.
There is quite a variety of soups to choose from--175 recipes in all, according the blurb on the back of the book. They are grouped by month; recipes with seasonal vegetables appear in the appropriate month. Each page has a proverb or commentary about using the recipe, and many have a charming medieval woodcut as an illustration. In addition to the soup recipes, there is information on making soup stock, sauces and homemade croutons.
One thing that might have made this book a little better is if the names of the recipes were indexed, instead of just the main ingredients. The names of the recipes do appear in the table of contents, however.
This is a good collection of tasty soup recipes, and also an enjoyable book to read and browse through if you enjoycooking.
Twelve Months of Monastery Soups.......2005-02-21
As a "homemaker" I have used Brother Victor-Antoine's soup cookbook as reference when I need to get a good meal on the table. I especially find it very easy to prepare from it because it doesn't matter whether one is living in the country, as I am, or the city with access to large and "luxurious" supermarkets.
A person can simple start from what is available in the pantry or refrigerator and find that from these simple ingredients a delicious soup can be made. There are many soups for many tastes, varying with ingredients through the seasonal months.
With most of them the author gives short explanations of origin of soup or childhood memories. I find these delightful and instructive since many recipes can be modified to ones pantry.

Excellent Resource for Aspiring Trainers!.......2007-05-12
This is an excellent source, full of useful advice on the ins and outs of putting together a dog training business. It does not go into training techniques, so you'll definitely need other books on methodology along with this one, which is strictly business. I think she's a bit conservative in her advice, which is probably necessary to publish and avoid liability. However, it can be a little discouraging to think that ALL OF THAT is necessary - just realize, it may not be. But it certainly has EVERYTHING you need!
Great How To Manual for Dog Trainers.......2006-06-09
Way to go, Nicole! She explains the business of dog training in a useful way! It explains some of the nuts and bolts of building a dog-training business as well as some useful manners and practical ethics.

Down to earth.. easy to follow.. lots of great information, reference & direction. A must read for anyone looking at training as a profession or just wanting to read a great book on the how too's. She writes in a logical down to earth fashion with humor. I loved this book.
Required Reading for People Considering Dog Training as a Career.......2005-08-22
This book was helpful in the sense that it puts all of the considerations in black and white. If you think you have thought of everything, I'll bet you find something in this book that may have slipped your mind.
I like Nicole's matter-of-fact approach. Her writing style makes this book an easy read.
Up and Running.......2005-07-23
I found this book very helpful,it explained the pitfalls of group training and one on one training,I am already a dog trainer but after i had read the book I changed a few things.

Good Information, but dated!.......2001-02-13
I enjoyed this book very much. It has many interesting projects for every room in your house. The explanations are clear and easy to follow. The only negative is that the projects themselves are dated. The ideas and techniques are great, but you'll have to update the style yourself. Overall I would recommend this book.

Well rounded introduction.......2000-04-07
I bought this book as a prep for a licensing exam. I found it to be a good starting point for further research. (a handy bibliography is provided at the end of the book) The author does a good job at introducing issues that get ignored in the general education of a designer. At least half of the book was case studys the methodology of practicing designers.

Book Description
Recorded history is a finely-woven magic fabric of intricate lies about events predating the sixteenth century. There is not a single piece of evidence that can be reliably and independently traced back earlier than the eleventh century. This book details events that are substantiated by hard facts and logic, and validated by new astronomical research and statistical analysis of ancient sources.

Calculations are only as good as your numbers.......2007-08-03
Yes, we can all agree that mainstream history is nearly 100% BS due to politics, economics, ego, problems with dating techniques, and various conspiracies. Agreed. But, I've been researching the distinct possibility that human history (in terms of civilizations) are much more ancient than we've been told, so coming across this book was very interesting to me. I wondered how Fomenko could be wrong (if at all) because he is very persuasive in his presentations. Then it dawned on me. If at previous times in prehistory, due to the various catastrophies that are well documented (comets, asteroids, planetary disruptions, plasma discharge, pole reversals, etc) the Earth was in a different position in relation to the sun, different tilt on its axis, different orbit, different rotation (in terms of velocity and DIRECTION), and the continents were in different positions, then would this not cause the ancients to see the sky (constellations) differently? In other words, is Fomenko making erronious assumptions about the physics of the Earth in pre-history, which then corrupt his data with regards to dating the relevant astrology? The last event to seriously disrupt our planet occured roughly 3500 years ago, according to other good researchers, so is it possible Fomenko has been confused by this? The vastly different physics of our planet in the not so distant past may explain this confusion, which is not to say the "mainstream" version of history is correct; on the contrary. I am not an expert in these fields, but wanted to see if this idea could spark discussion.
Pants on fire?.......2007-07-19
Will people ever read before spamming? Yes, Jesuits could not rewrite world history alone, they had help. Anyway, Dr Prof Acad A.Fomenko does not point to jesuits as the driving force of world wide history manipulation in published volumes 1,2,3;, actually he barely mentions the poor devils. Check it with 'Search inside' feature, please. China is rarely mentioned either, in fact, Dr Fomenko is completely eurocentric. Right, his theory contradicts all mainstream schools of history, because in their actual state they are all built on blatantly erroneus chronology. You don't need a mysterious cabal (conspiracy) to falsify history, the falsification is its modus operandi. It is inherent to history(ians) to falsify (distort) events, as it is inherent to humans to boast as it is inherent to power (authority) to legimize itself by referrring to glorious past made to its own order. Dr Prof Fomenko and team have identified scores of instances of such manipulation in Russian, European, etc.. history, and delivered valid statistical proof thereof. His own 'reconstruction' is completely another story. Forget c14 as a valid method of dating. W.Libby has initially discovered a brilliant method of INDEPENDENT dating. Too bad, c14 method has become a joke after a forced marrige with dendrochronology with consensual chronological scale inbuilt. Radiocarbon method can't stand blind tests, but is so very productive as a rubberstamp.
Accepted History & Chronology Must Be Changed. .......2007-04-09
There is no doubt that history as most know it is a sham, & institution's version of History both University & Church is fradulent & inaccurate. Everything was established with an agenda, The real "Dark Ages" are now when we have access to incredible amounts of information past authorities & more important 'common folk' didn't have but our institutions & educators are slow to evolve because of what has ignorantly & arrogantly been taught for too long. This is on many subjects not just Chronology.
For anyone to question "Why would a Mathematician have anything credible to say of History?" The answer is from Dr. Fomenko's preface in the book: "It would be worthwhile to remind the reader that in the XVI-XVII century Chronology was considered to be a subdivision of Mathematics." These volumes could possibly be some of the most important works to date & should be read by everyone with an interest in History, especially professors & educators who have a duty to the public. I have read both books & must say that 'Chronology 1' has some very eye opening & revolutionary information. Even if these volumes are part true the implications are profound & opens the doors to further investigations & questions which must be done. I speak several different lanquages & must say the logic Dr. Fomenko uses with "inflection" of words & words being read from left to right in one region & right to left in another then written backwards, the removal of vowels & get down to basics of words, or different cities & locations having the same name etc. is correct. Vowel usage has always been optional & varied, actually complicating linquistics & study. The first thing one has to understand is that words never had a fixed spelling in history like we do now, the spelling of words was mutable & regional, as well as names & titles of people were vast, varied & changed, NOTHING WAS FIXED or understood linear. Matters of Life & Death as well as financial profiteering yesterday & today were & are made with ignorant, illogical & conspiratorial views of history & reality, it's time people get closer to the Truth & society collectively grow up.
Very Interesting.......2007-03-07
It is a good proposal and I believe it will mature into something even better in the future. I think it deserves to be read.
History as Science Fiction.......2007-01-10
Anatoly Fomenko has written a very intriguing book, full of pictures, charts, and computer 'proof' of his thesis: backwards of AD900 we don't really know what happened or when. Between AD900 and AD1600 there is more certainty, but there is still a lot of fuzzy ground, and things don't get reliable until we get past the 1600's where the printing press made it very difficult for the perpetrators of this timeline manipulation to change anything that had been committed to print. The Dark Ages did not happen. Books were burned for a reason. One organization has doubled the actual length of its existence by expanding the real chronology. Read why.
I had always wondered why Christ died about AD33 and yet men waited until the 11th century to form the Knights Templar, the Cathars, etc and go after the Holy Land by force. Why the 1000 year gap? Turns out there wasn't more than a 10-12 year gap and he proves it using astronomy. This also implies that the planet is not as old as we have been told, and current Christian and other creationist scientists are already championing that idea without being aware of Fomenko's book. The two groups, creationist scientists and the Russian mathematical analysts corroborate each other. Fascinating.
Of course, all this flies in the face of what we have been told traditionally is the 'proper' chronology of western civilization, and most readers will experience 'cognitive dissonance' in reading this book. It means that our history going backwards from AD1600 becomes progressively more incorrect and unreliable until it cannot be trusted at all... in the space of 700-800 years.
Naturally, the curious, open-minded reader will want to know WHO did this, WHY, and did any of the events we think of as really ancient ever happen?
Dr. Fomenko is a respected scientist/mathematician at Moscow State University who has already answered these questions to the satisfaction of his initially skeptical colleagues. Most of them are now believers, a few still refuse to believe (the usual diehards), and of course the western press has ignored Fomenko's work -- for obvious reasons when you read the book. The ones who perpetrated this chronology ruse have a lot to answer for. They are still with us. That's why this book is a well-kept secret.
I gave the book a 4-star rating because I was unable to check out some of his claims; those I checked were as he said. But if even 1/3 of his claims are true, this punches a big hole in what we think is our history, the meaning of western civilization, our educational process (for repeating the ruse as gospel), and the trustworthiness of the organization that perpetrated this ruse, well-intentioned or not.
This book relates to current research into a Young Earth paradigm, to John Keel's discoveries about our planet, and Fr Malachi Martin's insights (in his now out-of-print books). We are indeed sheep who are manipulated and kept ignorant -- for a reason. While knowing what these men have to say may be the "booby prize" (as in: 'what can you do with this knowledge?'), it will provide interesting reading. Didn't someone say: "...and the Truth will set you free."?? For you to judge if this book contains the truth.
Book Description
Danzig Baldaev's father was an academic, an ethnologist who found himself imprisoned under Soviet rule as an enemy of the people. In fact much of Baldaev's family moved through the Soviet prison system, while he became a guard. At his father's suggestion, he used his access to document and study the tattoos that were pervasive among the truly criminal portion of the prison population, the vory v zakonye, or legitimate thieves, a semi-professional class who keep their own brutal laws. During his 30 years supervising inmates in St. Petersburg's notorious Kresty Prison, Baldaev recorded over 3,000 of their tattoos and parsed their meaning--the nihilistic creativity of a closed society--in the drawings and text that made the first volume of the Russian Criminal Tattoo Encyclopedia a bestseller. This essential second volume, which collects all new, previously unseen photographs and drawings, goes to the extremes of his incredible collection. Sergei Vasiliev's photographs authenticate the images, Baldaev's drawings make sense of them, and through them both we glimpse an extraordinary world where the criminal's position, history and even sexual preference are displayed indelibly on his body, and that marked body serves as a passport into the underworld.

Wow!.......2007-04-10
Excellent photos and artwork with clear, concise explanations. An excellent collector's item, but not really a suggested "coffee table" book. There's quite a bit of nudity, graphic political and sexual imagery, and one heaping dose of harsh reality.
Better then the first..........2007-03-24
Great original photography and a whole new look at tattoos...super raw, but oh so cool....not your average tattoo book....but a must own..
Truly an inside look at an exclusive society.......2007-03-14
When I bought this book, I flipped through the pages and looked at all the tattoos before reading anything. The tattoos were interesting enough, but I had to read the introduction to understand the culture that was molded wholly around the artwork itself. This encyclopedia gives a detailed account of what having a tattoo means in the culture of Russian prisoners. In many societies, tattoos mean very little. Many people get them on a whim, or go into a parlor knowing they want one, but not knowing what they want (probably a butterfly on her back, or a tribal band around his arm). This book explains how tattoos among Russian inmates serve as their resumes--who they are, what they've done, where they rank in the society, who they serve, how they feel about the state... the culture made possible by the tattoos is extremely fascinating, but you have to either be an inmate or read a book written by a credible source (read: this book) to find out about all the facets of it.
good book.......2006-03-28
this is an excellent book for those interested in tattoo art from other countries. this book has a lot of sketches describing each tattoo and its meaning. it also has actual pictures of russian inmates with their facinating prison tattoos. i would not recomend this book for anyone under 18 since some of the tattoos/sketches of tattoos are extremely violent and pornograhic. But facinating at the same time.
This book is not for the faint of heart.......2005-08-24
well, first of all, the book is shocking and distrubing. the book is mainly made up of drawings. These drawings are actual tattoos and many of them are accompanied by a brief story about the persons lifestyle or conviction. There are about, lets say 30 photos at the most, there is some nudity in the photos, male and female. Some of tattoo drawings are extremely XXX in context.Yeah its hard to beleive that someone would tattoo a graphic image of some sex acts on their skin. this book does have a lengthly introduction about the meanings of the whole Thieves World tattoos, there are pages also showing the meanings of the Finger ring tattoos which was quite interesting. The book mainly states that behind the meaning of alot of the tattoos its a personal expression against the soviet system, plain and simple.
The book gives you a feel about how it was to be caught up in the soviet system. I bought the book because i have been around the whole mexican gang scene and i have seen the tattoos that many of them get, and i just wanted to see the similarites of the criminal underworlds. Its all the same around the world.this
book will offend you no matter what, If you really want to still
learn more about the about the tattoos, get both of the books that amazon has here.

Book Description
The remarkable paintings and drawings of Eugene Berman seem at first glance to delineate a self-contained, private realm. But, in truth, his precise depictions of decadent beauty and ruin reflect an attitude towards the past thatis shared by a fascinating array of artist from both his own time and today.

Book Description
Song for My Father is a daughter's memoir of her father, Charles M. Stokes, a prominent African-American member of the National Republican Party. Known as "Stokey," he was born just forty years after the abolition of slavery. But by the time he became a pioneer in the fields of law, legislation, and politics -- during the turbulent and transformative 1960s and 70s -- contemporary associations of the GOP with the "party of Lincoln" had faded. Stokes's choice to remain a Republican against the tide of black Democratic political loyalty took courage. He would live to become Seattle's first black state legislator and serve as Washington State's first African-American district court judge.
With Song for My Father, Ms. Stokes pays tribute to a man whose love for his country, his family, and his people made a world of difference for generations to come. Stokes's life is a compelling example of what American Dreams are made of.

A True American Family Memoir in Living Color.......2004-11-22
Song for My Father: An American Story by Stephanie Stokes Oliver is a memoir of her African American Republican family, her life in Seattle, Washington and the career of her father, Charles Stokes, who became a judge and legislator in Washington State. Her story details the racism and politics of growing up Black in the 1950s and 1960s.
The story is actually a memoir of both parents. Her mother, Josephine was born and raised in Birmingham, Alabama. Though she grew up in Jim Crow conditions, her middle-class family life sheltered her from the most hideous racism. She was taught to hold her head up and not bow down to Whites. She went on to attend Spellman College in Atlanta. Josephine was known for her exquisite dress and style; at one time she dreamed of becoming a fashion designer. She eventually though became a librarian and school teacher.
Charles Stokes was born in Kansas, a staunch Republican state. He was the son of a preacher and came from a community of hard working, Black folk who had migrated from the Deep South to build a life free from racism and to educate their children. Charles and his brothers went to college, he himself went to law school and after working for a number of government agencies, and working for the Republican party, moved to Seattle. There he continued his work in the Republican party, working with prominent men including Richard Nixon. He eventually went into politics, running for Lt. Governor of Washington, which he lost and eventually became a legislator.
Stephanie grew up in integrated neighborhoods in Seattle, went through the usual teen-age angst and self-centered behavior. She clashed with her mother over wearing a natural hair style and the Black Power movement. She also clashed with her father over his conservative views about Negroes progress in a changing America. She recounts that she was ridiculed one election year when she was the only Negro child to admit her parents were voting for the Republican candidate. There are memories of church life in Seattle and family trips, particularly one road trip where they were pulled over in Texas and questioned about their late model car.
This was a poignant look at a girl and her family growing up in the United States with the duality of everyday life as an American family not unlike the Donna Reed Show or Leave it to Beaver only in shades of Black that definitely gave it more color in lessons of life.
