too many words.......2005-02-17
Mujica's writing seems to be a homage to the spanish language. The way he writes may, at times, be a little overwhelming, but if yoou really take the time to read it, this book will completely engulf and please you.... he is so musical in his writting that you may feel a little drowsy after reading one of his descriptions.... I've never read a book like this.
It is a tale inspired by a visit to Bomarzo, but the Sacro Bosco is merely the starting point for a beautiful painting of the renacentist period. Here you will find Cellini, Miguel Angel, the Medicis, Cervantes, Lepanto, Pietro Aretino, Paracelsus....
The best "history" novel I've read so far, and something really inspiring. Read this book.
And if you want it in italian, just go to Bomarzo and ask for it...
Outstanding.......2004-01-22
One of the best books I've ever read. An unbelivable piece of writing by Mujica Lainez.

Not much different from the first, but still enjoyable........2001-04-20
I was really worried after reading the first chapter of this book. It introduces us to the villain of the story. After only getting a brief glimpse of him in the first book, he gets an entire chapter devoted to him here. It was awful. Foster has created one of the most cliched antagonists I have ever seen. Combine all of the cheesy elements from various sci-fi and fantasy villains and you get Foster's creation. Ugh.
Fortunately, not much time was spent here. If the tone of the book had been set by that first chapter, then I would have given it only two stars. This was most definitely not the case. We still see the plot device from the first book of Etjole encountering obstacle after obstacle and defeating each with something given to him by a person from his village. This is getting tedious. The book would have received only three stars if this had again been the thrust of the book. Luckily, Foster has begun to dig deeper into the supporting characters and giving them a life of their own. Their interrelationships were also delved into a bit more. My one complaint in this regard is that the characters are very static. For example, at one point, Simna gets an undisguised glimpse into his soul, but it does nothing to change his personality. Why? It is very frustrating to follow characters through several hundred pages of adventure and have them not change a bit.
I guess the reason I gave this book four stars instead of three was that, after about the halfway point, I found it difficult to put down. I was enjoying the story way too much. It is also very different from most other fantasies on the shelves today; different themes, different types of characters, and different locales. All add up to a fun journey through an interesting world. I couldn't help but enjoy myself.
disappointing.......2000-06-07
I've read all of Foster's books, so you could say I'm a big fan. However, I didn't even finish this one. I got the feeling there was a contract signed to produce three volumes and he needed to stretch the story out.
A stark disappointment.......2000-02-15
I had quite enjoyed the first book. The lead character reminded me of Foster's "Into the Out Of", a book a highly recommend, but skip the last 50 pages or so. Alas! this one didn't measure up. Meandering and moralistic, with too many cardboard Bad Guys and the escape from tight spots and dire straits have become predictable in that Ehomba will pull something unpredictable from his rucksack.
Clever.......1999-10-26
I enjoyed this book even better than the first one in this series. Very interesting, complex characters.
A great continuation to the first part of the trilogy........1999-09-15
This book was a great contiuation to the first book in the series. It continues the story of the triad of characters who travel through a strange and wonderous world. A great read.

Graphic SF Reader.......2007-09-03
This is a pretty garden variety superhero story. The two new green guys, both Lantern, and Arrow, team up to deal with a crime problem. More of an excuse to have a team-up I think, than anything that makes a lot of sense, perhaps in a bid to recreate some of the cool stuff from the seventies, or just as a homage.
Really just average.
great idea-not so good story.......2001-03-31
what a great idea for a book, team up the new emerald heros.to bad the story writers didn't do more with it.i found that the story was long and drawn out.it was cool that they went places the original heros went and battled some of their old foes.i just didn't get hooked on the plot.the art work was good.as much as i wanted to get into this book it let me down.i was looking for some action but only got it in small(very small)doses,i would recomend buying this book just so you can compair the adventures of both the old and new.

Covers it all!.......2007-10-09
This is a must-have book. It will provide you with everything you need: useful, simple recipes that kids will actually eat, simple nutritional information, organizational tips, and tips and tricks for making the meal fun and getting your kids to eat the food you'd like them to eat. Honestly, this book is so practical. It's been the most bang I've gotten for a buck in a long time!
Not very novel, creative, or different.......2007-09-01
I got better ideas from parenting magazines. These were not very novel, creative, or healthy. It was also very thin. It was just a bunch of different kinds of sandwiches and soups. I was looking for something to break out of the rut, and this was not it. If the ONLY thing you can think of is PB&J, then you might get something out of it, but for those of us who can think of at least a little more variety, don't waste your money. I think the people who rated this multiple stars must be trying to boost the product's rating so they can sell theirs back, lol. :)
Not as healthy as I had hoped.......2007-06-01
"Healthy" is a somewhat relative term. The homemade recipes inside this book are certainly healthier than processed junk food, but I don't consider ingredients like chow mein noodles, american cheese or mini marshmallows to be "healthy". The usual topics found in healthy cooking books like the importance of whole grains, the pitfalls of trans fats or the importance of using organic produce, are pretty much absent from "Brown Bag Success". However, in terms of making lunches kids will like, eat and not trade, the book is filled with ideas. If you have a child who really will not eat their homemade lunch, you are bound to find some ideas in here that will help.
As another reviewer already noted, the recipes are heavy on peanut butter. I would say about one third of the recipes are peanut butter based. So if you have a child who loves PBJ, and you just can't make another one, then this book might just be for you. My daughter really doesn't like PBJ anymore, so they aren't much help to me.
On the other hand, some of the non peanut butter recipes look good enough to eat myself. The "Apple-Cinnamon Sandwich" puts a cream cheese-apple-walnut-celery spread between slices of raisin bread. The "Mini Drumsticks" are chicken wings soaked in an asian marinade and then baked. The chicken tabouleh salad and sweet coleslaw look good as well (But I'm not sure my daughter would so much as touch them. She dislikes most salad.) The baked goods all look good as well.
All in all I just don't feel most of these recipes are healthy enough for my family. My daughter has a bit of a weight problem, so I have to be really careful with what she eats. On the other hand the ideas for making a packed lunch more appealing to children are helpful and some of the recipes look tasty.
A great addition to my lunch repertoire........2007-05-09
This cookbook is geared more for kids. However, I was stuck in a lunch rut, and turned to this cookbook for help. It is wonderful. All of the recipes are easy with a small amount of ingredients. It really has added a lot of spice to my lunch repertoire.
Try the Peanut butter chocolate chip muffins. They are to die for.
Great ideas!.......2006-08-31
I have been brown bagging lunches for years and thought I had heard it all but I am always open to new idea and this book had them. My kids and I all went through it together and tried each kid's picks. It was fun and it has some really good ideas.
Book Description
Brutus, a Rottweiler who had suffered a lesion in his vertebrae, was barely able to move when he was brought to Angel's Gate hospice and rehabilitation center. Now, after months of hydro- and physical therapy, he enjoys daily walks. Thanks to Susan Marino, who runs the center in her Long Island home, more than 150 animals, from dogs and cats to horses and birds, are given the kind of hospice care usually reserved for people. Some recover from their life-threatening injuries or illnesses, while others are given refuge through their final days.
Getting Lucky tells the story of Lucky-a dog who's sent to Angel's Gate to die but instead finds a whole new way of living-and 20 other animals at the hospice. But it's also the story of a woman with a mission. Marino, a former pediatric nurse, started Angel's Gate 12 years ago in the belief that even critically ill and abandoned animals deserved to die with dignity and respect, and her work has made her a genuine hero. She speaks to veterinary groups across the country about her groundbreaking approach to animal care. This important book is a testament to the difference one person can make. AUTHOR BIO: Susan Marino was an intensive-care pediatrics nurse for 30 years, working with terminally ill children. She founded the nonprofit Angel's Gate hospice 12 years ago in her home on Long Island and continues to run the center with her husband. This is her first book. Denise Flaim is the author of The Holistic Dog Book and a staff writer and pet columnist for Newsday. She is the owner of champion Rhodesian ridgebacks.
Customer Reviews:
Great read.......2007-01-04
Once you open the book, you can't put it down. My husband picked it up to
read the first couple of pages and did not put it down till he was done.
I did the same. Since I did some volunteer work at Angel's Gate during the summer, I was really able to connect with some of the animals and was able to see how much they are loved and cared for.
Great heart breaking book!.......2006-04-27
This book is one that has to be read just to see what people go through when they lose a pet. I never thought I would be the one that was so attached to a pet. But I did for 13 years. Then when it was time. I made sure everything was is place for a pet funeral and made a great headstone for him. He was a loyal friend and I miss him dearly. I know that there are Angels Gates in heaven.
Getting Lucky is a 5 star read!.......2006-04-01
Getting Lucky is for all of us who share our hearts and lives with our animals. This book will make you laugh and cry, sometimes both at once. Beautifully written, with humor, love and sadness that just pulls at your heart. You won't be able to put it down. Angel's Gate is truly a place where "Angels" go to be loved and let go. I dedicate this review to my own angel, Jakob M. who passed on only 1 year ago. I'm grateful that places like Angel's Gate exist and that there are people out there who know just how special these creatures are.
Love, Love, Love IT!.......2006-03-24
This book is awesome! I recently lost my beloved Black Lab, Molson, who was 11 years old. I felt like I was there with all the pets in this book. I wish I lived near Angel's Gate... I would be there to volunteer in a minute! How wonderful these people are to take on such a heartfelt approach to helping these precious animals. I found myself smiling from ear to ear throughout the whole story! A must for all animal lovers to read!
LOVE IT!!.......2006-03-14
Even if you dont have a pet but like animals this is a must read...
I dont have a pet now but have had them growing up as a child. Absolutely Love this book and the touching stories...I laughed and cried and sometimes at the same time... The only bad thing about this book, is that I finished it. I wanted it to go on and on and to read more of the wonder of these wonderful animals...I feel that animals are a gift we can learn so much from them. I agree with Susan Marino the Author. Our pets have souls. They show it daily. I need for there to be a second book and on and on. The love you feel when you read about these animals (pets) is so tangible. Its not so sad as you would think but I came away reading it with feeling uplifted and it truly touched my spirit...I almost didnt buy this book I thought it was about just one dog but its soooooo much more then that and its woven richly with other pets this family and volunteer"s have helped see to there end days. What an honor to read this gem of a book. Thank you Sincerely yours Diane

Customer Reviews:
Big Book of Interiors.......2007-07-21
Not a book I'd recommend unless you're interested in pretty much the same design reworked over and over again. More than 380 pages of ultra-modern rooms which are sterile and "office building" chic at best. No diversity at all.
Not What I Expected.......2007-04-06
I don't really like having to rate a book so low, but I think it was more because it was nothing that I expected. My husband and I are basically "flipping" our house and I thought that this book would give us some great ideas and tips designing our new rooms. However, this book is just pictures! No information on where you can even find some of the products which is probably better because only movie stars and millionaires live in the houses that were displayed along the pages. If you have the money and want to gut everything, then this book is worth buying, however, if you just need some little ideas I suggest trying a different book.
Beautiful Ideas With Some Unusual Areas.......2006-07-14
This is a great idea book of interiors done by some of the best designers in the world. It is organized by the types of room:
Halls and Staircases
Kitchens
Dining Rooms
Living Rooms
Bedrooms
Home Offices
Bathrooms
This book offers ideas in several areas that you don't normall see in such idea books. The section on staircases is fantastic. Staircases give the designer to do some really dramatic things. I didn't realize just how dramatic until I saw all the designs that are shown here. And surprisingly, many of them look like they would be less expensive than traditional designs.
Another aspect of this book that isn't often seen is the decoration they have done on smaller houses and even lofts in converted warehouses, and sometimes showing very small areas.
Don't get the feeling though that you could build rooms like these by buying your appliances and furniture at the cut-rate discount store. This is a book of high end designs. Spectacularly photographed and printed.
Book Description
This collection of one hundred brilliantly colored and wonderfully diverse illustrations includes Keith Haring's most important posters, an art form that suited his distinctive talent and his conviction that art was for everybody.
In an era when art and art lovers were busy taking themselves seriously, Keith Haring emerged as a refreshing presence whose bold and playful work often carried a sobering message. AIDS prevention, gay rights, apartheid, racism, drug use and environmental protection were all issues that Haring cared about deeply and he brought them to the public's attention in unique and arresting ways. In addition he lent his trademark images to advertise numerous concerts, sporting events, and exhibitions. Although Haring died at a tragically young age, the universal pictorial language he created will ensure that his message of love, tolerance, and respect, will endure.

Customer Reviews:
Wonderful Book!.......2007-10-09
Worth buying and seeing his movie -- a great self-help book for any one of any age.
My Oasis.......2007-10-02
I needed this book like a nearly dead, confused, thirsty traveller wandering aimlessly through the parched desert needs water.
Over the past 2 1/2 years I have read, referenced, and reread this book countless times. I also bought the book on tape and often listen (sometimes just a chapter) for an easy self-centering. Thing is- I'm the sort that rarely watches a movie twice and if I love a book I might read it again- in a couple years. I can't get enough of this timeless wisdom- truly a map to concious living.
All I can say is this is the only "spiritual read" and "self help" book that I gravitate back to time and time again. It truly covers every pittfall and challenge to the human condition.
Thank you Dan Millman- I'm so very gratefull for you!
Ascend.......2007-06-22
This book takes you up the summit of our selves, step by step through well yet openly defined pathways that lead to some consciousness which is all you'll need to keep coming back to-awakening through reading is the ideal experience and why we should do so. Each chapter or gateway has several short to mid size sections that makes it great for commuting and chewing on nuggets of wisdom. This too I found through the library web catalog quite gratefully while this book includes the Peaceful Warrior workout that also makes it worth buying so we can learn and pratice enlightenment through all our day to day actions.
This book is practical.......2007-01-20
Dan Millman has placed the most practical guide I have seen for living the ins and outs of the real world. We can't go sit on a mountain or retreat to a lake hideaway to revive ourselves. This book tells you how to live the 8-5, rush hour traffic, life while maintaining yourself physically, mentally and emotionally. This is what everyday enlightenment looks like.
Treasure Trove of info. for everyday enlightenment.......2006-07-09
This guidebook by Dan Millman has useful and wise information for everyone. This book is not your typical trite self-help book that's been rehashed 1000 times.
Dan Millman has done extensive training in meditative disciplines, mystical practices, and other endeavors in the search for enlightenment. While he found these practices to be highly inspirational and wise, he also realized that these practices didn't do any good if you couldn't perform your everyday tasks in an enlightened manner. Thus-Everyday Enlightenment.
The book offers 12 practical and well thought-out-of areas or gateways to pass through for optimal growth as a person emotionally, physically and spiritually. Some of the gateways are: self-worth, money, health, emotions, taming the mind, trusting your intuition, sexuality, love, and serving others. As you apply the suggestions in each chapter you'll find yourself becoming more successful with that particular gateway. When you combine all the insights and wisdom you've learned from the gateways you can't help but live in a more satisfied way.
Dan makes it clear that none of us are ever going to perfect these gateways. They serve as signs and guides to lead us on the path of continual improvement. After all, enlightenment is what you do in the moment. In other words, it's the moment-to-moment awareness and actions that we bring to the present that make us enlightened. No one is ever completely enlightened-they just act more enlightened than others in their day-to-day affairs.
I found many of the anecdotes in the book to be inspirational. Especially inspirational was the chapter about serving others. There are many wonderful stories of people doing extraordinary acts of kindness to help others. If you don't find these moving you might want to get your pulse checked.
The wonderful thing about this book is that Dan writes in a clear fashion that is highly accessible to anyone. He also offers practical examples that aren't just fancy esoteric abstractions. Another thing of importance is that the information in this book doesn't depend on your personal beliefs, sexuality, religion or anything similar. The information rises above factional differences to a unified place that works for all humanity. However, you have to have the effort and willpower to apply the lessons taught.
What makes Dan's writing so impressive is that from these common bonds of enlightenment that apply to all of humanity he elaborates on them in a way that has personal meaning. He doesn't preach to people but accepts them as they are and shows them a path to take. He realizes that everyone's path is a little different but at the same time it's the same as well...The paradox of enlightenment. Read this book for yourself and start applying the techniques and lessons contained therein. This will open up a move vivid picture of reality that creates happiness, enlightenment, and awakening.
