After his adventures with Jason and the Argonaughts, Hal decides to go home to the north. He meets a young man along the way and before he knows it Hal is wrapped up in a crazy quest to find Vallhalla, steal a magical flying horse from Odin (the Norse Mythology father-god), and then fly into a fire created by Loki (the Norse trickster god), rescue an beautiful maiden, and be involved in Odin's Last War. And all Hal wants is enough gold to buy him a boat and farm. The usual elemements from Saberhagan are here; romance, rousing adventure, good swashbuckling action, super sciences, and of course god-faces. I liked the book a lot. If you have liked the series up until now, than you'll like this one. Hal and all the other characters are pleasent, easy to like and care about. The villians are a little less drawn out, but that's OK. I enjoyth this novel quiet a bit.

My friend gave me this book for Christmas. At first, the book didn't look appealing but after reading the first page, I was hooked! If you like lord of the rings, you'll for sure love this book. If not, you'll enjoy the actions, the suspense, the stories, plots. The stories unfolds in such an exciting way. Every page will make you wanna read more. 320 pages....yeah right...it seemed to me like I read only like 100....i want more! This book is great! I loved it a lot. action packed fantasy thriller.......2002-08-18

Following his journey as an Argonaut, Hal comes home to settle down in a mundane environment though he still wants wealth. His hope of boredom ends before he reaches his destination as he finds his path blocked by a strange looking fire. He plans to go around the magical induced flames, but first talks with a melancholy man called Baldur. The stranger tells Hal that he expected to attain Valhalla by dying in combat, but instead sits on the wrong side of the flame that contains his beloved Valkyrie Brunhild and a treasure. Unable to ignore the possibility of wealth, Hal joins Baldur on his quest to get to the other side.

When the gnomes begin their annual trek to Valhalla, Hal and Baldur follow. However when they reach the fabled city, the partners are shocked to find Valhalla in ruins. Woden seems mentally incompetent, and Thor and Loki are missing. Someone has to lead the Valhalla warriors in combat against the invading giants. Alas Hal and Baldur become embroiled though the former wants gold while the latter desires his Valkyrie.

The Fifth Book of the Gods, GODS OF FIRE AND THUNDER, is an action packed fantasy thriller. The story line follows the exploits of the key two characters driven in different ways. Though overall quite an exciting extension to mythology, the plot at times feels disjointed yet this engaging tale will please fans of the author and Norse mythology lovers with its creative force.

Two more great stories from Bradbury here. First, "The Ravine"...a genuinely scary tale lifted from everybody's nightmares. In a town where a man is killing lonely women and leaving their bodies in the ravine, a woman decides to walk home alone - at night! - through that same area! As always, Suzanne Somers has a fantastic cookbook with delicious recipes. Her diet is so easy to follow and the foods are so satisfying. It is a method easy to apply to daily living with minimal rules. Have lost the weight I wanted and am already on Level 2. HIGHLY RECOMMEND.

All of Suzanne Somers' books are excellent. This has the easiest recipes. I love to eat without counting calories or portion sizes. I eat till I am full. I have lost 15 lbs in two weeks while eating delicious real food.
I recommend you purchase ALL of Suzanne's books. Each one has different recipes and the forwards are different also. The Forward to GET SKINNY is the best. GET SKINNY IS A MUST. All of Suzanne's books are a MUST. For the first time in my life I have hope that I will be SKINNY and HEALTHY one day.

When I see Suzanne Somers I just see Chrissy from Three's Company and all that snorting and dumb blonde-ing! I never paid any attention to any of the Suzanne Somers books because I figured this was just another celebrity attaching their persona to something. My library happened to have this on the shelf and since I had some time to kill while waiting for my daughter to pick out her books I decided to flip through the recipe section since I knew it was a low carb type of diet and I do atkins. I was very interested at what I saw so I checked it out. I have been totally shocked at how easy and terrific her ideas are and in fact her philosophy is quite interesting too. I am really impressed. I have a totally different viewpoint now of Suzanne Somers. I love this recipe book so much I had to buy it so I"d have a copy.

Great book, great recipes!!.......2004-06-07

My husband & I just started the South Beach diet. Since Somersizing is a very similar concept (similar to Atkins too), I thought I'd check out these recipes. The book explains the concept of cutting out sugar & sugar forming carbohydrates (anything containing white flour). I looked into the other somersizing books & this one really has the best recipes. So far I've only tried a few & they were very delicious. The cream cheese pancakes & balsamic dijon chicken are yummy. I also bought Somersweet, some of the recipes call for it, but you can use Splenda or other sweeteners instead. All of the recipes in this book are appealing as well as healthy. And they are fast & easy to make.

There couldn't be a better person to simplify cockatiel ownership into a "For Dummies" book than Diane Grindol. She is the author of "The Complete Book of Cockatiels," which you will want to get to complete your education if this one whets your appetite. The book is organized in an especially helpful way, listing first the joys of cockatiel ownership, then the hazards and diseases, then finishing up with a summary of do's and don'ts. In the process, you'll learn the not-so-obvious differences between males and females, the importance of diet, the gauntlet of avian diseases, setting up the cage, travel, grooming...in short, everything you'll need to know. When you reach the end of this informative and readable book, you will never view a cockatiel the same again. This book is very specific in all aspects about cockatiels and has answered all my questions as a begginer owner, but I only wish they would have more pictures. Covers all the basic's, feeding, housing, colorings, taming all that you'll need to know. I really loved it!

Lacks information on Mack trucks of the 1950 's era.......2001-11-05

I bought the book looking for information on the LTL and W 71 model Macks. There was very little info on the LTL and none on the W71. There was very little info on the H model. The book might be good for someone wanting some general knowledge on a wide variety of trucks.

Albert Mroz does an excellent job in describing in both words and in black & white pictures the more than 1200 different American trucks and Commercial vehicles. This is a very useful research tool for the automotive historian. Details behind the manufacturer's products as well as the history behind the companies is very thorough. I would welcome a revised edition with added marques and additional historical information as well as a listing of production figures. This book should be in every auto historian and truck researcher's library.

While there are many factual errors in this book the author has dug out an incredible amount of information on some very obscure trucks. It is the best of the three commercial vehicle encyclopedias.

The sewing instructions are so clearly presented that one with minimal sewing experience should achieve excellent results. The designs presented are fairly basic -- that's why I gave the book 4 stars instead of 5 -- but the book provides plenty of inspiration for most purposes. For me, this one is a "keeper" as a reference book.

Newspaper columnist, writer and NPR commentator Patricia Raybon admits that she hated whites for years. She even tried unsuccessfully to whip up a similar rage in her parents. But anger got her nowhere. Eventually, in the philosophies of Martin Luther King Jr. and Mahatma Gandhi, she found an alternative: forgiveness. The first part of the book is a series of essays on the life experiences of herself and her father, and the racial history of the country; it ends with "Letter to My First White Friend," a grateful acknowledgment of a white girl at her mostly white high school. In part two of the book, further essays explore the process of moving beyond hate, and the new world it has opened up for Raybon.

Couldn't Read This Book Fast Enough!!.......2005-11-28

I couldn't put this book down!! I love her writing style. Easy to read, easy to get into, but not easy to put down. I liked the sharing of other people's lives and struggles that she included such as Ghandi and Martin Luther King. I must admit, I have a few other pages to read before I'm finished, but I want to buy a copy for several of my friends for a Kwanzaa gift, so came online to order. This is a good book for anybody to read. And I strongly recommend it to any 'haters'. Hopefully your viewpoint will change too!

My First White Friend: Confession on Race,Love & Forgiveness.......2005-08-06

I brought this book because I couldnot put her other book. This book is interesting because it deals with issues in my own life.
It lends it self to a therapy session everytime you pickup the book. I am not Afro- American but I am Hispanic and have dealt with alot of the same issue that Pat has. But not to the extend she has. She has a way of writing that by the time you finish the chapter you have really gotten to the core of the matter being spoken about.
I will continue to look for books by this author she is great!

great understanding of race relations.......2002-03-25

My first white friend tells the life of Patricia Raybon, an African American women growing up in Colorado. Through her life, she felt on the outside because of her race and did not fully trust Caucassions and held a lot of hostility towards them. However, as she grows and matures, Raybon begins to become friends with a white women in high school. Through her life, she is faced with challenges dealing with her race like people questioning her credential when she teachs college. Through her life, Raybon is able to reflect and come with a better understanding of race relations. She begins to realize that the racial hostility she had can be overcome and that we can all get along.

This book is a great book to read regardless of your race or experiences with other races. We can all gain from a book like this.

Excellent book for anyone needing to forgive.......2002-01-02

At first, I wasn't sure I wanted to read this book because of the title. But, I had an occasion to interview the author so I decided I should read the book before I went. I found the book to be exceptional in both the writing and keeping my interest.

This book also helped me in some of my own healing because I related to so many challenges that Patricia speaks about that were directly related to her family. The book was about forgiveness and how one woman decided it was time to move on with her life.

Because I work with women regularly who are attempting to do the same, I will recommend this book to many.

You HAVE to read this book. Have to........2000-12-17

I've belatedly begun studying African-American culture and history, and stumbled across this marvelous book. It's not a fast read, because you savor her language--each phrase, each paragraph is rich. But it is a compelling, raw, and honest look at race relations in America, and a very well-written book with beautiful, poignant prose. It should be on _everyone's_ required reading list. I'll try to explain why I feel this way, as this book moved me very deeply.

As a white but "color-blind" American, I feel my life has been vastly enriched by reading this book. I feel I understand so much better what it means to be Black in America from reading Ms. Raybon's words and her heart-wrenching life experiences. I never quite understood racial hatred, posessing none of my own, and through her eyes I began to comprehend the pain many individuals go through every day in this country. I was so unaware, so oblivious to this. My lack of awareness has been a crime. I will never again look at life the same way as I did before reading this book, and for that I am extremely grateful.

As an author myself, and a critical reader, I don't hand out such high praise easily. This book is an absolute must-read for _all_ Americans. Her theme of forgiveness is truly the only way to heal the terrible scars of not only the evils of racism but all human wounds. I would like to thank Ms. Raybon for having the courage to publish this book, and encourage everyone, of all backgrounds, to read it.
