Customer Reviews:
Best book ever!.......2007-09-15
This book is perfect if you are abso;uetly obsessed with Tolkien's world, The Lord of the Rings. Gives names of characters mentioned in the books, and characters that arent mentioned. It's the perfect size, and very well written. It may be an encyclopedia, but you can read it like a book and take it all in...
A perfect little companion.......2007-04-25
An A-to-Z compendium of people, places, and things in Middle-Earth and beyond. A must-have for every true fan. Very helpful in filling in the gaps and keeping track of Tolkien's elaborate world. Great stuff.
The best book for Tolkien fans.......2005-09-02
I have a book stand with all LOTR books... Out of all of them.. This ranks the best as a guide.. (Nothing beats the real books).. It has EVERYTHING of ANYTHING in ALL of Middle-Earth! Like if you were ever wondering.. Who brought the shards of Narsil back to Arnor.. But couldn't figure it out.. It's in the book! Ohtar: Dunadan of Arnor, the esquire of Isildur. He was one of the three survivors of the battle of Gladden Fields, and brought the shards of Narsil to Arnor.
So if your itching for info.. And need the right book.. I say.. Buying this book! It's worth every penny.
Everything you ever wanted to know about Middle Earth.......2005-07-01
The book has a well thought out design in a dictionary form. You find information on every character, every place, and every thing. There is a section on how to read the sources and abbreviations in the book. There are appendixes with A Chronology of the First Age, Genealogical Tables, and Conversion of page references to Houghton Mifflin Editions.
Some may think this guide is geared towards those that already have a basic knowledge of Middle earth. But upon exam one finds it is like any other dictionary those with a large vocabulary may need an occasional glance; while others may have to look up the words that explain the words.
I find it indispensable.
Helpful Guide for those who seek answers.......2005-01-29
Robert Foster has done a great job indeed for this is truly "The Complete Guide to Middle-Earth!" Literary includes ALL names (characters, regions, mountains, rivers & etc.) that are found in the Silmarillion, the Hobbit, and the Lord of the Rings!
Now, I would like to address to all Tolkien fans who struggle with finding the meanings and origins of the unknown names - get this book and your problem will be solved! You will find history and explanations of every term that Tolkien used. For example, who was Elendil? According to the book, ELENDIL - Dunadan of Numenor, son of Amandil of Andunie and the leader of the Faithful, the noblest of the Dunedain to survive the fall of Numenor. And so on...
As you can see the book is very useful and it is organized like a dictionary, so there is no problem in fining the necessary information.

Dome of the Rock Islam.......2005-02-22
Has 160 pages of nice color photos and text detailing the construction of the "Dome of the Rock" that sits atop the "Temple Mount" in Jerusalem. This Islamic structure was built atop the stone from whence the Muslim Prophet Mohammad (PBUH) climb a ladder into Paradise (Heaven), about 625 C.E. during his "Miraculous Night Journey" on his winged, flying-horse Buraq -- before returning to Mecca. Surprisingly, there a just a couple of photos of the Dome itself; not that many photos of the interior of the Dome, nor of the overall Temple Mount. It has a lot more information about other Islamic-Judaism history than about the Dome itself. Worth getting at a few dollars. Nowhere even near as good as "Dome of Rock" by S. Nuseibeh. You may also want to look at an archaeological analysis of the Temple Mount's buildings in L. Ritmeyer's "Secrets of Jerusalem's Temple Mount."

Customer Reviews:
Absolutely Fantastic Cookbook!!!.......2007-10-01
I am not a vegan/vegetarian, but wanted to add more low carb vegan meals to reduce the amount of animal products we eat and to reduce carb intake as we are both pre-diabetic. Well, I am thrilled with this cookbook! I bought 7 vegan cookbooks recently, but I've cooked almost exclusively out of this book alone, and so far, all of the recipes have been GREAT! The 'Portobello Patties with Charmoula Sauce' recipe is out of this world! And the Cashew Creme is decadent. I loved the 'Edamame, snow peas, and bean sprouts with Ginger-lime Vinaigrette' salad. And the 'Victory Garden Stew' was excellent, although I added garlic, since I'm a definite garlic lover. Finally, I've tried every burger/cake recipe in the book with various sauces and have loved them all.
You can't go wrong with this cookbook, although some of the ingredients may be hard to find, such as artichoke hearts - but I haven't given up, there's got to be some gourmet shops out there that carry them!
If you want a cook book that contains a variety of TASTY vegan recipes, then this is the book you should buy!

too high carb for real weight loss.......2007-09-10
Each soup alone has over 20g of carbs! And that's just for soup not a meal! To lose weight (not just maintain your current weight) you can only eat 20-30grams of carbs per day, not per meal.
Most of these veggie cookbooks are for the rich anyway, a lot of the ingredients are only available at fancy-pants stores like whole foods. I hate to say it but diets like Atkins are within reach for low-income folks. Who has time (or money) to find something called 'mirin' whatever that is
Excellent book.......2007-02-09
I have tried multiple recipes in this book and I have liked each one thus far. There are ideas for things in here that I hadn't thought to try and recipes that implement things that I like but didn't really have recipes to include them in. I love to experiment with new things and this book really took it home for me. There's no greater pleasure than trying new foods and learning the best way to prepare things, yet still be able to eat healthy. Kudos!
not so much low carb, but smart carb.......2007-01-05
This is an excellent cookbook, first off it is all vegan so no dairy or eggs are used although she does mention that milk could be substituted for some recipies. I appreciate its vegan content since I am one, but I know that vegetarian meals can be heavy on dairy as well as typical low carb meals. I loved the tofu benedict and made three of the soups (amazing!) there are great side dishes and new ways to try different veggies. I think the sauces and condiments section are a real bonus in this book. If you are looking for more vegan low carb, I also recommend "low carb vegetarian" by Margo DeMello, a little less fancy meals, but we use more of them regularly (especially the *chicken* caesar salad).
i also appreciate the thoughtful intro about good and smart carbs, since its pretty much impossible to sustiain healthy balance being vegan and truly low carb.
Comparing 3 Low Carb cookbooks.......2006-11-16
When my husband developed acid reflux, it was recommended that he lower his carb intake. As long time lacto vegetarians (no fish, meat or eggs, yes to dairy), this sounded particularly challenging.
I bought 3 different low carb cookbooks from Amazon a month ago: "Low-carb Vegetarian" by Celia Brooks Brown, "Carb Conscious Vegetarian: 150 Delicious Recipes For Healthy Lifestyle" by Robin Robertson and "The New Glucose Revolution Low GI Vegetarian Cookbook: 80 Delicious Vegetarian and Vegan Recipes Made Easy with the Glycemic Index" by Dr. Jennie Brand-Miller
After a month of consistent cooking I have rarely used Brown's "Low-carb Vegetarian" which is laden with ~50% recipes that use eggs. There are some great recipes in there if you eat eggs though.
On the other hand, my copy of "Carb Conscious Vegetarian: 150 Delicious Recipes For Healthy Lifestyle" by Robin Robertson is a bit dog-eared already. Delicious, innovative recipes with new ways to use foods common to the vegetarian and wonderful exploring of unusual but easily available new veggies and protein options.
"The New Glucose Revolution Low GI Vegetarian Cookbook" by Dr. Jennie Brand-Miller was rich with information and great recipes. It taught me a lot.
But by far Robertson's "Carb Conscious Vegetarian" is the best.
I will say that I don't know these authors and am doing this to help a buyer who may be wondering which one to get...
By the way, a low carb/lower acid diet has really eased the acid reflux my husband suffers from. We eat a main meal during the day and a protein drink at night, even if working: switched when consuming. And I am starting to lose weight...
Hope this helps!
Book Description
While dogs get more credit, cats have perennially proven themselves to be every bit the equal of their canine brethren as humankind's best friend. Angel Cats, inspired by a contest authors Allen and Linda Anderson ran to find the "Best Angel Cat" story, shows the often extraordinary ways in which these fascinating creatures have responded to human need. Stories feature Paprika, the kitten that may have saved a little Hungarian girl from Russian soldiers; the cat who helped a woman make friends in a hostile workplace; the cats who acted as "pacemakers" for a sleeping woman with undiagnosed heart problems; and many more. Interwoven with the stories are brief meditations as well as fun facts about cats, such as that cats purr at the same frequency that increases bone density and strengthens and heals fractures. An "Ask Cuddles" section answers frequently asked questions about the fabulous feline.

Angel Cats: Divine Messengers of Comfort.......2007-04-11
what a heart warming book with great stories in it.
A True Blessing.......2006-11-17
A friend gave me this book a week ago today. My wonderful cat (my companion of nearly 14 years), Trouble, died last week of kidney failure and my friend thought I could use a little comfort. I haven't read the entire book yet, but the last section on how animals say good-bye to us was truly touching to me and helped me to see that I'm not crazy for feeling so blue. Reading sections of this book allowed me to see that Trouble's desire to be held that last night he was with me was his way of saying good-bye and trying to let me know that he knew it was time and that he (and I) would be ok.
Angel Cats: Divine Messengers of Comfort.......2006-09-06
This book has some great stories which are heart warming and meaningful for the soul. These stories are way for people to see that animals can truly love there human. I would give this book out for gift to people who are lonely and think that nobody can love them.
COMFORT FOR THE CAT LOVER'S SOUL.......2006-08-14
In these uncertain and harrowing times, those of us who share life with cats have the advantage of being able to reach out and touch softness, comfort, unconditional love and loyalty whenever we stroke our cats. ANGEL CATS: DIVINE MESSENGERS OF COMFORT by Allen Anderson is a prosaic comforter and provides much-needed balm for the soul by illuminating stories of cats' singular love for their chosen humans, each other, and other living beings. I heartily recommend this book for all cat lovers, most especially those who wish to understand their relationships to their cats on a spiritual level, and for all who look forward to meeting beloved feline family members "at the Rainbow Bridge" and beyond.
Angel Cats: Devine Messengers Of Comfort.......2005-09-13
I highly reccommend this book to animal lovers, and especially cat lovers. We are not in this world alone. God has blessed us with cats who can teach us patience, humor, compassion and unconditional love if you will let them. My cats have always been a comfort to me and a reflection of the eternal.

The authority on fabric dyeing.......2006-06-18
I had used a couple of other fabric dyeing books earlier and wasn't too happy with the process and frustrated by not being able to reliably reproduce colors.
This book is really excellent - it makes dyeing a really simple process. No need for special jars, chem water etc. that others advocate. I kept a log just as suggested and now have lots of colors that I feel confident I can reproduce.
I'd highly recommend it to anyone new to fabric dyeing or anyone who's tried the process and is frustrated. Give it another chance with this book.
* ~ * ~ * Fantastic Book * ~ * ~ *.......2002-10-07
This was a wonderful book. In fact, I wish that I had ordered this one prior to the other books on dyeing that I ordered. It had simple, easy to follow instructions. The color wheels printed in this book were the absolute best! In addition, beautiful color photos illustrated unique designs and colors.
So if you are even remotely thinking about dyeing your own fabrics, please buy this book first; you may not need to buy any additional books.
Thanks,
Libby
An Excellent Dye/Color Reference Manual.......2000-04-25
This is an excellent manual for anyone wishing to learn how to use fiber reactive dyes with confidence. Presents good color theory and excellent exercises to explore the infinite color possiblities through color mixing, while creating a "library" of color samples for reference.
Comprehensive and easy to use; each chapter is a self-contained workshop. You can do one, or all, or skip through the chapters.
A Great Fundamental Book on Fabric Dyeing.......2000-03-30
This book has everything you need to begin hand-dyeing fabric to use in quilts. The instructions are complete and understandable. It has a complete list of the equipment and materials needed to begin. Color charts, formulas, dyed fabrics, finished quilts, and quilt patterns are all included. I love this book!

Book Description
Dave Nestler has made a career of illustrating impossibly beautiful women, creating some of the most breathtaking paintings you've ever had dancing through your fondest naughty thoughts. Although it may seem like magic, there's a staggering amount of study and technique involved in the creation of such works. You think staring at pretty girls all day long is easy? Fun, sure, but easy? Nestler lets you roam through pages and pages of delightful detailed finished drawings of females in all manner of positions and attitudes, giving you valuable insight into his craft (and letting you enjoy the view!).
Customer Reviews:
A must have!.......2007-07-18
Beautiful creative sketches. Readers will marvel at the works. No one does female form like Dave Nestler. This is just a little taste, you will long for more.
NESTLER'S FIRST SKETCH COLLECTION IS A GEM!.......2005-09-07
Start out with that fantastic cover of Salma Hayek from Dogma and move on to an entire collection from one of the most talented artists in the business today. Subtitled "Bad Girls Drawn Nicely" this book from SQP is the first sketchbook collection from the brilliant hand of Dave Nestler. Nestler has already established himself as one of the great modern masters of erotic pin-up art and this book is a prime example. It presents 64 pages of luscious, sexy, and oh so naughty females, rendered in beautiful pencil illustrations. Calling this a sketch book makes it perhaps sound as if these are rough drawings but don't let that fool you. These are completed and polished drawings, suitable for framing.
Nestler has a true eye for capturing women in their most subtle nuances with a fine-line detail that is unrivaled today. His anatomies are flawless and the eyes of the Nestler women enchant the reader. Check out the beauty lying on a stylish, Art Deco sofa, one breast exposed, seemingly waiting for her lover to come home. Then check out the gorgeous sun Goddess, pouring cool, refreshing water from a shell down over her body as she soaks up the sun. Catch a glimpse into the bedroom of a lovely woman as she readies herself for the evening in leather garter and bustier, and is busy attaching her stockings. A truly sensuous piece features a topless, delectable piece of cheesecake in a French maid skirt.
The examples are too numerous to try and highlight them all. This is one of the finest pin-up sketch books I've ever seen. Nestler points out in the introduction to this volume that this is the time he has worked exclusively in pencils since he was in art school and he obviously hasn't lost a step. While the majority of the drawings feature full or topless illustrations there are also a number of great facial portraits as well. A first-rate collection! Sal Quartuccio continues to publish the finest in erotic fantasy and pin-up art.

Book Description
Sir Phillip knew that Eloise Bridgerton was a spinster, and so he'd proposed, figuring that she'd be homely and unassuming, and more than a little desperate for an offer of marriage. Except . . . she wasn't. The beautiful woman on his doorstep was anything but quiet, and when she stopped talking long enough to close her mouth, all he wanted to do was kiss her . . . and more.
Did he think she was mad? Eloise Bridgerton couldn't marry a man she had never met! But then she started thinking . . . and wondering . . . and before she knew it, she was in a hired carriage in the middle of the night, on her way to meet the man she hoped might be her perfect match. Except . . . he wasn't. Her perfect husband wouldn't be so moody and ill-mannered, and while Phillip was certainly handsome, he was a large brute of a man, rough and rugged, and totally unlike the London gentlemen vying for her hand. But when he smiled . . . and when he kissed her . . . the rest of the world simply fell away, and she couldn't help but wonder . . . could this imperfect man be perfect for her?

Customer Reviews:
Not a page turner.......2007-08-28
This book is so boring, I had to force myself to keep reading to se if it would improve, but it didn't. Sir Phillip is so boring, it makes it hard to believe she'd fall for him. Not a good read.
My favorite Bridgerton book . . . .......2007-03-16
I think the story of Eloise Bridgerton and Sir Phillip Crane is romantic and engaging, in fact they're my favorite Bridgerton couple so far. Phillip's rough edges and hidden vulerabilities made him very appealing. I cared for him, liked him, and genuinely wanted him to be happy. Eloise's funny little quirks (ie talking too much, being very opinionated, sharpshooting better than her brothers, etc.), along with the genuine caring she shows Phillip and his children, also make her a very likable, well-rounded character. Other reviewers stated that this story was too formulaic, and perhaps it does rather follow the perscribed romance novel formula, but in this case the formula really works. Enough back story is provided to make Phillip's attraction to Eloise believable and heart-warming. And I thought the love scenes, particularly the one on Phillip and Eloise's wedding night, warranted turning up the air-conditioning a few notches.
Fifth Bridgerton book, fifth Bridgerton child.......2007-02-26
The fifth book in Julia Quinn's successful Bridgerton series tells the story of Eloise, 28-year-old spinster and middle child. Eloise has turned down six suitors in her many years on the Marriage Mart with the hopes of falling in love and finding the perfect man. Still, when her best friend and fellow spinster, Penelope Featherington, marries her older brother Colin, she cannot help but feel betrayed. She decides to run away and visit a man with whom she has been conducting correspondence, Sir Phillip Crane, the widower of her distant cousin Marina who has proposed marriage in his most recent letter. Though he asks her to marry him via post, she couldn't possibly marry a stranger... could she?
Sir Phillip Crane is in need of a wife. After his wife died, his 8-year-old twins became completely unruly, scaring away governesses and running through his house like terrors. He doesn't really care if the woman in question is beautiful, wealthy, or has a mind for numbers, as long as she is willing to instill some discipline in his little monsters. After a year of correspondence with Eloise Bridgerton, he concludes that she must be an on-the-shelf spinster, and that his proposal of marriage will be a welcome invitation. When the woman turns up on his doorstep unannounced, imagine his surprise to find that she's actually beautiful...
I've been dreading picking up To Sir Phillip, With Love even though I've read the majority of the other Bridgerton books, just because I didn't really believe that I would find the story plausible. What well-bred young lady just runs off in the middle of the night to meet a complete stranger sans escort and with no concern for her formerly sterling reputation. Still, I enjoyed this book more than I did Benedict and Colin's stories, though not nearly as much as those of Anthony and Daphne. Eloise and Phillip are an excellent couple, their wits are matched, and they both refuse to back down when they feel something. The way that Eloise teaches Phillip to love and trust again is romantic and endearing, and the way that Phillip melts under her tutelage is the way you'd a imagine a hero would behave. I recommend the fifth book in the Bridgerton series and suggest giving it a chance before writing it off as implausible.
one of the better ones.......2006-11-26
I like Eloise and the idea of her running off to meet a penpal was very fitting. But I would have liked it if the author had developed more of their relationship through letters. When they finally meet in person, Sir Phillip and Eloise are strangers, despite their correspondence of a year. And what a shame that they are forced to marry before they realize that they should be together. I was kind of disappointed when the Bridgerton brothers came barging in, although the author showed an unusual and softer side of Anthony Bridgerton in this book.
Funny and romantic........2006-09-09
This is the first Julia Quinn book that I read, I am still not sure how to react to it. After reading some great novels by Linda Lael Miller, Lorraine Heath, Maggie Osborne, Emily Carmichael, Maureen Mckade and more I tend to anticipate more from a writer. The book isn't bad, but I do think that if we to take out all the sex scenes from it-It would have being more suitable for my almost teenage daughter to read. I just didn't feel connected to the script the way I usually do when I read a great romance. I do agree with some of the other readers that the beginning is very promising. The whole idea is quite intriguing; however this is where it ends. Nevertheless, the story is funny and "light". If you are looking for an easy book to read, without getting too emotionally involve in the plot "To Sir Phillip with Love" is the one for you.

To Sir.........2007-08-09
When I was in school, 10th grade, we had a chapter in English Literature. This chapter, named In the Grip of Prejudice, was from the book 'To Sir With Love'. That was such a gripping chapter, that I decided to buy the 'To Sir With Love' immediately.
Amazing book and fantastic movie (with excellent performance of Sydney Poitier). The book has been with me for more than a decade and re-read multiple times. Very intelligent book that teaches the basics of right human existance.
Excellent!
A Classic About Both Education & Life.......2005-02-05
A very enjoyable book. Braithwaite tells an inspirational story about both teaching kids but also overcoming prejudice as a black man in post WWII England. I'm a new teacher and hope to develop the type of relationship he had with his students with mine some day.
Good.......2004-11-09
During my school days, we had an extract from this book as one of the lessons in our English subject. The lesson was named "In the Grip of Prejudice". After reading the lesson, I just wanted to read the whole book. ER Braithwaite has handled a touchy subject aesthetically.
Highly recommended! :-)
Inspiring stuff.......2004-09-27
I remember having read an extract of "To Sir with Love" during my school days and have been wanting to read it ever since. Unfortunately I never got around to doing so for quite a while. Recently while browsing in a bookshop, my eyes fell on the book and I decided to pick it up.
The book is an extremely inspiring autobiography which chronicles the life of a 'coloured' teacher in a particularly rowdy neighbourhood of London.
Written in an extremely touching, charming (and ocassionally witty) style, the author talks about how he has to deal with racial sterotypes. It is uphill all the way for Braithwaite as he counters the cynicism of his impressionable students and, ocassionally, that of his colleagues also. Slowly, he wins over the minds (and in the case of Pamela Dare, heart) of his students as he tries to wipe clean their minds of prejudices (racial or otherwise).
The book was also filmed starring the ever-charming Sidney Poitier in the lead role. See the movie after reading the book.
A Moving Story!.......2004-04-24
When Mr. Braithwaite took the job as a teacher, he never expected his students to be barbaric savages. Though tempting, Mr. Braithwaite didn't give up, teaching the teenage rebels to call him "Sir" and treat him and others with self-respect. With hard work and dedication, he turned this class of deliquents into a class of young men and women with class.
This book is thoroughly motivating. It is a story that is unforgettable and one to look to for inspiration. This book is a definite must read!
