NIGHT BIRD'S REIGN Is A Complex, Exciting "Historical" Fantasy Read!.......2007-01-26

This is primarily the story of Gwydion the Dreamer of Kymru. Different talents had specific titles and duties. There was once a High King but because of betrayal and treachery there hasn't been one for centuries. Arthur is born to Gwydion's brother, King Uthyr of Gwynedd and his Queen, Ygraine. He must first find a way to keep Arthur safe until he reaches manhood for then he will become the next High King of Kymru. Kymru is divided up into five subkingdoms: Gwynedd, Ederynion, Gwytheryn, Prydyn and Rheged each with their own kings and queens.

Once Gwydion has made sure Arthur is being raised in safety he must locate Caladfwlch, the lost sword of the last, murdered High King of Kymru. Arthur cannot reign Kymru without it. However, in his quest to locate this exalted weapon he must have help from captains of these various kingdoms' war bands. Of utmost importance he must find and enlist the help of Rhiannon, a clairvoyant, also known as one of the Dewin who has been missing for several years.

The book moved along at a rapid pace with intrigue and personalities that clash and mesh throughout the plot. The cast of characters is as immense as are their titles. There are multiple lists including a cast of Characters in their detailing their specific location and area of expertise as well as all of the ruling classes, Historical Figures, The Shining Ones and last but certainly not least the well-needed Glossary giving definitions of the Kymru words for the sixth day of the week to what November is called.

It's a richly complex and detailed first novel which only serves to enrich the story. I'm eagerly awaiting the second in this trilogy titled: CRIMSON FIRE, release date: June 2007 and the third is titled: CRY OF SORROW, release date: June 2008.

I am a big fan of fantasy novels and this one stands up with the best of them. Ms. Taylor's wonderful detail and imagery allows the reader to "see" the kingdoms, rituals, ect., and feel what the characters feel. Once you pick this one up, you can't put it down. Anxiously awaiting the sequel!

Welcome to Kymru, a land ruled by kings, queens, and the Y Dawnus (the gifted/magical folk: Druids, Bards, Dewin, and the powerful Dreamer). A mysterious enemy threatens Kymru. The land is in need of a High King, a being who can enhance the powers of the Y Dawnus and protect the land.

The gods mark one child at birth as the next High King. As the Dreamer of Kymru, Gwydion ap Awst must ensure that this child remains safe from those who threaten Kymru regardless of whose heart is broken by his actions.

Gwydion must also find the sword Caladfwlch, so the next High King might wield it. Rhiannon--a woman as bitter toward men as Gwydion is toward women--acts as a receptacle of the information necessary to obtain the sword, but she is in hiding and must be found. In addition, finding the sword might bring about the death of one beloved by Gwydion.

This is an epic novel--fat in heft, rich on detail. The characters of Night Birds' Reign really grab the reader, and they do not--let me repeat do not--let go. A well-planned societal structure serves as the backbone of Night Birds' Reign. This strict societal structure will, as the narrative plays out, elicit a wide range of responses from readers, fulfilling the author's job of making the reader really feel all the pain and love weaving through the fabric of Night Birds' Reign. Also, it was nice for a change to see that female characters could inherit, hold positions of rank, and even think for themselves. Kudos to Ms. Taylor.

Beautiful book.......2006-02-14

Ms. Taylor's book is beautifully done. Moving characterizations, visual splendor and vibrant plotting make this an outstanding first effort. I am looking forward to a continuation of the series. As to the negative reviewer who is apparently hung up on the history of potatoes: it's called F-A-N-T-A-S-Y.

This is a good recipe book...if you're prepared to have a lot of random ingredients in your kitchen. If you like to cook, then get this. If you're a college student pressed for time and money, look somewhere else. A few of the recipes are college student friendly, but most are not.

Since I'm allergic to seafood, there's a whole chapter in here I can't cook...plus many recipes in the other sections have some type of seafood in it. However, the ones I CAN make are great!

Just received my copy. I started flipping through recipes when I got home from work. I thought I'd run out to the store once I decided on a recipe. Lo and behold, I came across Fettucine with Onion Sauce. The description began: "On days when your refrigerator is empty, if you have onions, dried pasta, and olive oil you can put together this dish." I'll be danged! My refrigerator was empty! I had onions, pasta and olive oil! And I made the dish - a little over a half hour later I was eating, and it was delicious.

This is a great resource, with great ideas for quick, good quality meals that are faster and better than take out. I'm sold already, and the book paid for itself this evening by keeping me from going out for dinner.

My spouse and I are empty nesters and I have been having a very difficult time cooking a meal that serves less than four, which means lots of leftovers -- or worse, wasted food. We are also trying to watch our weight these days, and with the recipes in this "cooking for one" book, we have created some delicious meals that we can easily split and enjoy together!

First of all, I HATE the BIG UGLY picture of American Car Racer...do not know his name, on the cover of the book. Second, I hate NASCAR and Cheap political HOT WHEEL junk I do not even care for looking at. The book should focus on HIGH QUALITY COLLECTIBLE BRANDS ONLY. What a waste of paper~!!!

These are rough ratings, of course the colors used are many and the fabric used for each design also plays a role in the complexity of the work. Most of these samplers are big, parts of them can also be used alone for smaller projects.

This book has some bold colors, something that a lot of sampler designs miss. Also, since this is a sampler book, and mostly not of the old alphabet type, you can do portions of most of the graphs and have a good smaller project. A good variety of subjects, too, including some for children's rooms.

I would like to say that this book contains wonderful photographs of each sampler and when I first opened it up to look at it, some of the samplers were truly different and breathtaking. I stitched the Pastry Sampler and entered it in the State Fair and won "Best of Category". Although the graph I worked from was extremely difficult to decipher. I think this book contains some beautiful, whimsical and intricate needlework.

The editor/curators of this book got 50 contemporary artists to each write down instructions for a do-it-yourself art project, for the reader to try. Each is a small revelation of the artist, and a thought-provoker in itself. It's intelligent and fun -- a very clever expression and extension of contemporary art. It's just the thing for anyone who wishes they were artistic: you read an entry, and have the curious sensation that, not only is the project something you could do, but it would be an actual participation in the contemporary art world, pre-endorsed by prominent artists and curators.

I saw his exhibit in Paris a few years ago and I was intrigued about this artist.This book will give more explanation on his work and why he does it. Some of the writing can be too academic and hard to understand. There's an interview with Boltanski which I loved. He's very opinionated and an interesting artist. There's not much info on him on the internet so I'm really glad that was made.

A good book on an excellent artist. Why, then, only 8 / 10 ? Because the authors/contributors do not deal in-deep with certain AMBIGUITIES in Boltanski's life and art. Everybody always focusses on the quote >official < unquote biography and bibliography of Boltanski (e.g. in Lessons of Darkness). But CB himself is constantly re-arranging and reconstituting these 'facts'. Critics and curators, though, always seem to take the information for granted.

I think that CB plays a game with us, and that (t)his game is a very important part of his oeuvre. As such it should be properly documented and studied.

Brilliantly written book on a fascinating artist.......1998-04-16

This is one of the best monographs I've read. Often I get books an an aritst I like, and can't get through the awful text, I end up just looking at the pictures. The text in this book adds so much to my understanding of the work, by detailing the progression of his ideas through the years, and clearly describing the installations. The writing is very clear, I found myself reading it as if it were a novel.

Stunning collection of Fitzgerald ephemera.......2006-11-11

My girlfriend, a fellow Fitz enthusiast, bought me this for my birthday and it ranks among the best gifts I've ever received. This is an amazing and exhaustively comprehensive scrapbook of the lives of the Fitzgeralds. If you're a fan and come away from this without wanting to get your hands on every single thing those two touched...there's something very, very wrong with you. ;) Beautiful book.

Spectacular Book for F. Scott Fitzgerald Enthusiasts!!.......2006-05-03

If you are a fan of F. Scott Fitzgerald, this book is an absolute must-have! While I own just about everything that is written by or about Fitzgerald, this is perhaps my favorite book to peruse. It is compiled just like a personal scrapbook and is replete with photos of the Fitzgeralds as well as articles (by and about Fitzgerald)written in the 20s and 30s. Much of this content you will not find elsewhere, at least not in such abundance. Bruccoli, America's leading Fitzgerald scholar (as well as Fitz's own daughter, Scotty) did a spectacular job of putting this together. The scrapbook format gives the book an intimate nature and the set up is extremely attractive. Best of all, at just around $20, it is an absolute steal for the price! If you love Fitzgerald, don't go without this collection! It would make a splendid addition to any high school classroom that teaches Fitzgerald or any personal library that celebrates true literary classics.
