2 out of 5 stars Blue Moon Rising was fairly good..........2004-06-06

but these two sets of "short" stories fall short of the original book. Although, even Blue Moon Rising was ended far too easily. I don't want to spoil too much, so I'll keep this short. Parts of the story are quite corny, where Hawk & Fisher ask "Why?!" and then the bad guy, nearing death, confesses to his crime. The third story, "Bones of Haven," is probably the worst, with Hawk & Fisher having to do very little wrap things up and save Haven (again). All in all, it's a fun read, but I probably won't keep these taking up shelfspace.

5 out of 5 stars Simon R. Green has never done me wrong.......2004-03-07

I discovered Green at Coliseum books in NYC (Now sadly closed) when I just wanted something similar to mental popcorn to pour through on the odd quiet night. Boy was I in for a shock. I'm now a slavish devotee of his work in any setting, but it was Hawk and Fisher that laid the bait. An effortless wordsmith, Green blends humor and turn of phrase in a way that just delights. The plots may not always be convoluted or hard to decipher, but I have never ever cared. It's always been about how we got there. Do yourself a favor and pick up Green.

5 out of 5 stars Thanks to Simon Green.......2000-12-26

One word...Wulf Saxon. "...Covered in blood, none of it his..." I was drawn in to Greens world with masterful ease. The man can write. I have successfuly hooked all my friends on his books. Meeting Hawk and Fisher was a wonderful time. The wit and humor of Green struck my funny bone squarely and soundly. I wish and hope for more Hawk and Fisher adventures to come...

5 out of 5 stars Guards Of Haven.......2000-10-14

This series was very enjoyable to read. I first found Simon Green when I picked up Blood and Honor. Later I found out he had written an earlier series, Hawk and Fisher, and looked for them. I already owned all of his other books. Having the series republished was delightful. I could see his progression as an author and how his books tie together. I would recommend these to any fan of his writing because it is nice to see where he got his start, and they are nice reading as well.

5 out of 5 stars Action and Characters Make Hawk & Fisher #1.......2000-09-22

My favorite books are the Hawk & Fisher series from Simon R. Green. I have read the entire series and I highly recommend these stories, which are seemingly set in modern-Barbaric times. The continuous action and character description (especially the villains) keeps me going page after page. The plot twists and imagination of Mr. Green takes the reader through a roller coaster ride of thrills! I love the diverse creatures in "The Bones of Haven" jailbreak sequence which include a cursed portrait of a creature that escapes if it locks eyes with someone who would then end up trapped in the portrait in it's place. Another favorite is "Wolf in the Fold" which pits Hawk & Fisher against a castle full of suspects while trying to find which one is a murderer in this "Whodunit" type of story. A great climax at the end. These books should be made to movies. What do you say, Mr. Green?

1 out of 5 stars 101 Things to do with a Slow Cooker.......2007-09-17

Very disappointed with cook book. Nothing exiciting or new. If you are a slow cooker user you came up with these recipes on your own and have been using them for years. Most call for simple and few ingredients which is the best part of the book.

5 out of 5 stars 101 Things to do with a Slow Cooker.......2007-05-24

I purchased "101 Things to do with a Slow Cooker" as a gift. The recipes looked so easy and so good that I may have to order one for myself!

5 out of 5 stars My other slow cooker books are collecting dust!.......2007-01-19

This is one of the best slow cooker books I've come across. The recipes are simple, tasty, and best of all - most have very few ingredients. I love to cook, but as a busy mom, I'm tired of recipes calling for 15 ingredients. Those recipes are fine for the weekends - this book is GREAT for the busy workweek.

I didn't realize until now that there is a whole series of these books - "101 Things to do with a ___________." Here I come!

1 out of 5 stars Lazy Recipes with Prepared Food.......2007-01-07

The point of a slow cooker is to prepare something in one dish from wholesome ingredients and be done with it. Instead, the author has taken this to an extreme new low. There is no excuse to suggest recipes that combine canned chili and Velvetta cheese and actually consider that a slow-cooker recipe... not to mention even to consider that food!

If like me, you like to cook using top grade ingredients from scratch (mostly) then this is NOT the book for you. Processed ingredients like Chedder Cheese Soup, Chili, Spaghetti Sauce, Minestrone soup, Velveeta cheese, taco seasoning mix, bouillon cubes, jarred salsa, onion soup mix, canned chicken, cranberry sauce, scallopped potatoes from a box, salad dressing and even cake mixes are considered as proper ingredients for recipes in this book.

Personally, I have no problem when a recipe might include ingredients like Chicken broth, barbecue sauce or even onion soup mix, but this book really exaggerates. This is hardly "from scratch". Unless you really need a recipe to tell you to put pork chops and a jar of barbecue sauce together... skip this book.

5 out of 5 stars Simplicity - How to cook out of your pantry.......2005-12-12

I love this book for what it is - a collection of simple recipes. Most of the ingredients are items you have in your pantry or freezer. It is a great book for the end of the week when you have not been to a grocery store in days. And the recipes are yummy. So if you are looking for a long list of ingredients and many steps of preparation this is not the book for you. If you want a book where in five minutes you can make a meal from your pantry this is the perfect choice.

There are recipes for beverages, fondues, dips, soups, stews, vegetarian delights, turkey, chicken, beef, pork and desserts.

5 out of 5 stars Great Teaching Tool for Young Riders .......2007-05-10

Making anatomy interesting for middle and high school kids is a tough task at best. This book takes advantage of the natural love of horses to teach them more about horses in a very scientific way. And it's fun. A nice tool to use on days when the weather makes riding impossible.

        5 out of 5 stars Excellent resource.......2007-01-09

This book contains very large and clear illustrations and excellent captions. It is exactly what I have been searching for and have not been able to find even though I have used several books and resources before. I can highly recommend this book.

                Book Description

A lush tropical setting, exotic models, and legendary drinking bouts serve as the backdrop to the "larger than life" story of artist Edgar Leeteg. Often referred to as the "American Gaugin" for his idyllic rendering of the Tahitian people in the '30s, '40s, and '50s, Leeteg is best known for his discovery and mastery of the age old technique of painting on velvet. Long lost in the shadows of art history, the paintings of Edgar Leeteg are now recognized as the archetype for modern velvet paintings - one of the more popular and enduring art mediums in the world.

                Book Description

Cynthia Cooper is the best female basketball player in the world today. In the past 10 years she has accumulated dozens of MVP awards, scoring titles, gold medals, and championships, and she didnt pick up a basketball until the age of 16. In this gripping autobiography, Cynthia tells how she made it to the top of her profession: about the years of growing up fatherless with seven brothers and sisters in Watts; how she honed her game against older guys at the local basketball court, winning a scholarship to USC; and about her years on the European basketball circuit where she slowly established herself.

5 out of 5 stars I Would Recommend This Book For Every Mother And Daughter........2007-05-23

Some people may shy away from this book because they think its about basketball. Wrong -- it's about life, about a person who happens to play basketball.

I think every girl should read this book, because it deals with Cooper's issues with self-esteem and confidence, overcoming poverty, and her pursuit of excellence. I also think every mother should read it, because the book shows how effective a role model Cooper's mother was to her. Maybe mothers and daughters should read this book together, and have discussions about it.

This is not an overtly Christian book, but Cooper is a Christian and does not hide her faith. It is not really an evangelistic book, though one can say it is pre-evangelistic.

5 out of 5 stars She's got more than game!.......2002-07-31

Cynthia Cooper could be a role model for anyone. She knows how to play the game of life as well as basketball: when to hold, when to fold, and a whole lot more.
What impressed me most? Signed to play in Italy, Cynthia didn't hang around being homesick. She took the opportunity to learn and grow.
                My favorite scenes:

                (1) New to Italy, she'd never even heard of famous cathedrals that someone asked her about. Later, she could have discussed the architectural history and features -- in Italian.

                (2) She asked Ford to give her a marketing internship -- and she felt right at home with the men. I use this example a lot when I talk to parents who are concerned that their daughters are more interested in sports than school.

                (3) She takes us behind the scenes of the championship Comets.

Hard to put down, well-written, honest -- the perfect gift for any WNBA fan or any young woman looking to her future, in or out of basketball.

5 out of 5 stars A True Example of Determination and Self-improvement.......2002-04-14

This autobiography is one of the best, if not the best, that I've read. It's amazing how Cynthia Cooper writes her own story to motivate and make readers have more confidence. She's a real example of a true athlete hero, someone that can be a role model to all. Thanks to her and her success in the WNBA, she's given Women's Basketball a new meaning. Her determination and motivation to become successful is admirable. This book is really an inspiration to those who lack self-esteem and self-confidence. I enjoyed reading this book and I would recommend it to anyone because is really interesting and inspirational. I'm proud of Cynthia Cooper because she's a real good representative of Women's basketball and a great example of determination and success. She also proved that with God's help, anything is possible.

5 out of 5 stars She Got Heart.......2000-06-22

Cooper's book has made me relieze that nothing can turninto something. Also Cooper provides a positive role model for anyonewho wants to better themselves and improve their way of life. This is a book that can be enjoyed by all. There was problems growing up, college, overseas (work) love, and death of loved ones. This tells the reader that everyone faces problems at many different stages of life. Also how they could be overcome with the correct outlook. END

5 out of 5 stars She Got Game : My Personal Odyssey.......2000-04-02

This book is about the story and life of a great know person and athletic. It has its good times and bad times. It tells you what happened in her life till the time she published the book. It tells you from her first time she touched a basketball until she became the leauges MVP. If you want to read a great story about a player and her good times and bad times this is the book you should read. It is for sure the best book I've read about a great person and a life she lived.
