Book Description
Joy is estranged from her only daughter, Kate, and knows little of her sixteen-year-old granddaughter Sabine. But all that is about to change when Sabine arrives, seeking shelter at her grandparents' house in Ireland -- the very place from which her mother, Kate, ran years before.
Suddenly, with an impetuous and inquisitive young woman in the house, Joy finds herself facing long-buried secrets of her past. And Kate, too, must bridge the painful chasm between herself, her daughter, and ultimately, her mother. Coming together, these three generations discover fundamental truths about love, duty, and the unbreakable bond that unites them as mother, daughters, and women.

In a class by itself.......2003-04-19
Jojo Moyes has a gift, as evidenced by this book. She has the ability to create characters and situations that are completely believable. She presents a wide range of both, yet her details are so accurate, the book doesn't suffer. The story is a romance, yet its not all sex. There is actually a plot.

Product Description
The adventures of Naruihm's warrior-queen and England's privateer captain begin once again in Legacy of Morevi, the highly-anticipated sequel to the award-nominated debut work of Tee Morris and Lisa Lee. Life in Morevi is hardly a happily ever after for privateer captain Rafe Rafton. As he deals with the animosity from the Ladies of the Blood and from his own daughter, Ashtari, his only ally is Morevis First Queen, Askana Moldarin. But soon, the peace they find with each other is shattered in a single night. Now, Morevi faces a threat far greater than that of political opponents or frontier rivals. As their realm stands on the brink of a war they cannot win, Askana and Rafe must risk another Riftcrossing while sending their daughter, the future Second Queen of Morevi, into hiding. However, the Great Game now stretches beyond the borders of Askanas rule, and plans for the downfall of House Moldarin are set into motion.

The Adventures of Rafe and Askana Continue.......2007-02-20
"Legacy of Morevi: Book One of the Arathellean Wars" is a sequel to "Morevi: The Chronicles of Rafe & Askana" which was written by Tee Morris and Lisa Lee. In "Legacy", the adventures of Rafe Rafton and Askana Moldarin continue. Not having read "Morevi," I can definitely say that "Legacy" can be read and understood without having read the first one. Having gotten hooked on this story, I definitely plan on reading both and anything else that Tee Morris writes.
In this tale, Rafe Rafton has crossed the Great Rift to be with his love, the First Queen of Morevi Askana Moldarin and his daughter Ashtari. Askana is pleased to see Rafe, however, the First Ladies of the Blood and his daughter aren't as taken with him. Underlying all of the intrigue and ordeals that Rafe and Askana have to deal with, Rafe hopes to overcome his daughter's reticence and win her love. The First Ladies of the Blood are not helping with this. Morevi is a female ruled society and they are not receptive to Rafe. He is referred to as the Queen's "consort," even by his own child. They are even less than thrilled when his old pirating buddies show up.
When the safety of Morevi is threatened by Askana's past the adventure really begins. The Elves of Arathelle prove that they are not the typical light hearted elves of fairy tales. The people of Morevi's freedom and safety are threatened by them. Then there are also the dangers involved with the creatures of the Southern Wood. Of course, having to cross the Great Rift provides its own adventures.
I loved this story. It has everything that a reader could want in a fantasy novel, magic, mayhem, suspense, intrigue, romance and hope. Once I began reading "Legacy of Morevi," I felt like I had actually stepped into another realm. Tee Morris writes with such depth, you feel more like you are watching what is happening rather than reading it. His vivid descriptions bring this world to life. He also does a fantastic job of developing his characters. This novel is a must read for fantasy fans.

A great adventure continues.......2006-09-26
The sequel draws you further into the lives of Rafe and Askana with even more character appeal, drama and action than the original. Truly a world, characters and writing that could go on and on. Tee is an author who has plenty of imagination and writing flair to carry this series for many more chapters. I, for one, can't wait.
The tale of Naruim's warrior-queen Askana and Rafe Rafton as they attempt escape from the prospect of a coming war.......2006-03-11
Legacy Of Morevi: Book One Of The Arathellean Wars is an incredible new release from science fiction author Tee Morris. As the introduction to great series with an invaluably fun and interesting storyline, Legacy Of Morevi is the tale of Naruim's warrior-queen Askana and Rafe Rafton as they attempt escape from the prospect of a coming war afflicting their realm. Highly recommended reading, Legacy Of Morevi is sure to encourage the readers to continue their collection of Tee Morris science fiction and look eagerly toward the next title in this outstanding science fiction action/adventure series.
Like Lord of the Rings, only good.......2006-03-08
Another terrific adventure fantasy from the pen of Tee Morris. The Queen of the mystical land of Morevi finds her lands under attack from her one time allys. What can she do? Seek the help of King Henry the VIIIth of England, of course.
Adventure, military strategy, political intrigue, and magic all combine for a great read.
The Adventure Continues.......2006-01-19
reviewed by Sherryl King-wilds for www.fantasynovelreview.com
The past has come back to haunt First Queen of Morevi Askana Moldarin in a most horrific way, a way that once again threatens the First Queen with the loss of her queendom and all that she holds dear--her young daughter Ashtari and Ashtari's father Rafe Rafton.
Rafe Rafton, the Sea Wolf, has given up his wenching and privateering and tried to settle down with Askana and Ashtari, but he is not quite domesticated, and he wants to be a husband not a consort. He also wants a daughter who will love him not tread on him like dirt underfoot as Morevi's female-dominated society dictates.
It, however, appears the maneuverings of the man-hating, politically powerful women of Morevi are the least of Rafe's worries when the Arathelleans, a powerful race of elves, threaten Morevi with war. Once again, Rafe and Askana must seek alliances beyond the rift separating Morevi and our historical Old World, but betrayal upon betrayal sticks them both between a rock and a hard place while the Legacy of Morevi's shocking ending leaves the reader with the question "When will the next book be out?"
Tee Morris spawns more adventure, court intrigue, and some harsh "realities" within the lush landscape of Morevi, delivering a tale that will hit the reader much like a punch in the gut (in a good way)--it will leave you breathless!
Book Description
Ed Ruscha is among the most innovative artists of the last forty years. He is also one of the first Americans to introduce a critique of popular culture and an examination of language into the visual arts. Although he first made his reputation as a painter, Ruscha is also celebrated for his drawings (made both with conventional materials and with food, blood, gunpowder, and shellac), prints, films, photographs, and books. He is often associated with Los Angeles as a Pop and Conceptualist hub, but tends to regard such labels with a satirical, if not jaundiced, eye. Indeed, his work is characterized by the tensions between high and low, solemn and irreverent, and serious and nonsensical, and it draws on popular culture as well as Western art traditions.
Leave Any Information at the Signal not only documents the work of this influential artist as he rose to prominence but also contains his writings and commentaries on other artistic developments of the period. The book is divided into three parts, each of which is arranged chronologically. Part one contains statements, letters, and other writings. Part two consists of more than fifty interviews, some of which have never before been published or translated into English. Part three contains sketchbook pages, word groupings, and other notes that chart how Ruscha develops ideas and solves artistic problems. They are published here for the first time. The book also contains more than eighty illustrations, selected and arranged by the artist.

Book Description
The Hlutr: immensely old, terribly wise.and utterly alien. Long before life crawled from the oceans of Earth, the forests of the Hlutr stood on a million worlds. Their soundless songs filled space, and their mastery of evolution had brought peace to countless planets. When Mankind went out into the stars, he found the Hlutr waiting for him. Waiting to observe, to converse, to help. Waiting to judge.and, if necessary, to destroy. Humans were savage, uncontrolled, aggressive and unpredictable. Should the Hlutr encourage them - or exterminate them? Parts One and Two of this book, originally published as Analog novelettes, each appeared in The World's Best SF anthologies for their respective years. The novel was a finalist for the Compton Crook Award. Wavelengths Online calls it "an underrated SF gem." Speed-of-C Productions is proud to bring The Leaves of October back into print with a brand-new epilogue written just for this edition.

Book Description
After four volumes of Lynch's Corner stories, Mr. Summers now turns to poetry to evoke the mood swings of the seasons. We visit the coolness and dying of "October," the depth of family in "Generations," the strength of "History," the prisms of "Remembering" and "Mind Games," and far-away places in "Torre de Palma." October Leaves is about the moods of life.

These poems relate the experiences of an introspective small-town girl growing up during the late 30s and 40s from the retrospective vantage of an urban-wise adult of the 80s and 90s, exploring a singularly traumatic hidden event, uncommon to the time, that affects the rest of her life.

Great Gelato Recipes.......2007-02-22
After spending 3 months in northern Italy and eating lots of gelato, we were anxious to buy a machine and a book of recipes to see if we could duplicate what we had eaten in Italy. The recipes are great and are easy to follow. I really like the history and the lay-out of the book...and the photos are excellent.
an authentic gelato recipe base.......2006-10-22
I love this book because it gives new creative recipes using an authentic base. The amount of sweetness called for is just enough, which is so much more pleasing to the palate than the overly sweetened recipes and store-bought frozen desserts of today. Gelato recipes also do not usually contain cream, obtaining their fat content from the egg yolk. One wouldn't know this from doing a simple search online, but here you have recipes that use real ingredients (milk, eggs, sugar) creating a rich satisying dessert head and shoulders above anything store-bought in both taste and nutrition. One reviewer wanted a basic chocolate gelato recipe; read her gelato primer artical on [...], it has a bunch of sample recipes including a basic chocolate gelato. To another reviewer who wanted a preview of this book before buying it, I would recommend also visiting this site and looking at her gelato primer, it is a rather long article that I think might satisfy that.
Delicious!.......2006-03-10
This is a great book! Although some of the recipies are a bit time-consuiming, all of them are easy to make and very tasty. It's a guaranteed hit with anyone who tastes it.
Awesome Book.......2005-09-07
I LOVE this book. The recipes are simple and pure. I love that there is minimal sugar and NO corn syrup (which is a big ingredient in many American ice cream recipes). I'm a bit confused by someone saying that some of the ingredients were hard to find? I live in New Hampshire (NOT a big city) and I was able to find ingredients. Also, someone complained about the process of preparing a prickly pear. Since when is PEELING considered a complicated procedure. If you love to cook, love food, and love cooking with fresh ingredients, then you will definitely love this book.
no previews!.......2004-04-30
I don't know about anyone else, but I NEVER buy a cookbook sight unseen, and as this publisher chooses to hide the recipes from the public, I can only assume she/he knows that they are not up to the competition here! With the plethora of cookbooks today, there are a lot of stinkers (c'mon, haven't you been burned too?)so if I can't check the book out, either from a library or online, I will not buy it (and I buy an average of 10 cookbooks a year)

You would think that a 12-pound dog would know her place in the world. Well, you obviously haven't met Clara, the pug that rules writer Margo Kaufman's life and the topic of discussion in Clara: The Early Years, Kaufman's hilarious account of living with the imperious pug. Kaufman, author of This Damn House! and the Hollywood correspondent for Pug Talk magazine, admits to being the "Official Pug Lollipop," a fact that Clara takes full advantage of. From their first meeting in a New York hotel room, Kaufman knows that Clara is "different": "Five minutes after her arrival, she inspected our junior suite like Leona Helmsley checking to see if the chocolate mints on the pillows were lined up at the right angles. Clara noticed the spacious queen-sized bed, the plush carpet, and the cozy loveseat in my sitting room. She beheld the cold hard floor--tile, not even marble--in her tiny bathroom. And she realized that the Human had put her own comfort over the pug's--a serious error that must be corrected at once so the Human would not make this mistake again." Sure, most people would have run screaming from the little Hitler, but not Kaufman. She's instantly smitten with the tiny, "bat-eared," "jack-o'-lantern"-toothed puppy, as the whole world soon would be. Joining Kaufman on book tours, stealing the show with her designer doggy cap and natural on-air charm, posing for photographs (to be used in dog-food endorsements, no less), and generally hamming it up and handing out orders, Clara comfortably stakes her claim to the Kaufman clan--including fellow pug Sophie. But when Kaufman and her husband decide to adopt Nicholas, a Siberian orphan, Clara feels the limelight slipping away. Wrapped in bureaucratic red tape, the adoption process involves not only months of paper pushing but a trip to Siberia that just about puts Clara over the top. Luckily, the persnickety pug accepts Nicholas into the fold and all is well in Clara's universe. As for the Kaufmans, well, indentured servitude to a pug isn't so bad. Kaufman's witty observations--combined with Clara's unforgettable antics--make for a memorable read. --Stefanie Hargreaves
Book Description
"Before Clara, I was not a Pet Parent. The Pugs were dogs. Cute dogs, willful dogs, lovable to be sure, but I was Human. I was in charge. Then along came Clara, and all bets were off."--Margo Kaufman, from Clara
Acclaimed columnist Margo Kaufman fell in love with pugs when she was nineteen. But none of her previous pets could compare with Clara, a glossy black, twelve-pound package of pug charm and pugnacity with the face of an imp, the heart of a ham, the seductive skills of a slut, and the deductive gifts of a genius. It didn't take long for Clara to let her new pug parents know who was ruling their California household--whether she's sipping Evian from a cut-crystal bowl at Saks, or performing a star turn on PrimeTime Live. Filled with the author's trademark wit and dry observations, Clara is the hilarious and heartwarming story of the unforgettable pug.
Customer Reviews:
i owe so much to this book........2007-08-14
After stumbling upon this book in a tiny country bookshop, i read it in just a few days and fell deeply in love with pugs. i was completely charmed my the author's dogs, especially Clara, and soon i had rescued my own little black pug from a shelter. My pug goes with me everywhere, and as the author states, "is living proof that god has a sense of humor." these little dogs make me laugh every day, and this book will make you laugh on every page. Clara, Margo, and their adventures in LA will have you splitting your sides, and whether this is your first introduction to pugs, or your a long time lover of the breed, you will relate to and be touched by this book in unexpected ways.
Clara-Quick Read.......2007-07-08
I really enjoyed the first half of the book, after all we do have two black
pugs, but the second half was more about their adoption of a foreign baby and the pug story got left by the wayside.
never received item.......2006-11-10
I have been waiting since Sept. and I never received this item!
This book is great for pug lovers.......2006-10-26
but for those of us going through adoption, it was a bit cold. I actually shuddered when she spoke of her reluctance towards adopting a Chinese girl. I might be overly sensitive here, but it did strike me a bit racist. I also have a puggy whom I adore, but if there's any problem between her and my to be adopted daughter, I'm afraid that puggy will have to go live at my mum's. Anyone who isn't ready to put their human child first really isn't ready for parenthood (on the bright side, the author eventually did come around to putting her son first, but I've seen quite a few couples who were so wrapped up with their dogs that it's like the kid should be kept in a cage, and that's not right. This is why people like Caesar Milan exist to teach yuppies the importance of treating dogs like dogs and not spoiling them as children).
Overall, very interesting story. I'm sorry that the author lost her battle to cancer. Unlike one of the other posters, my first thought wasn't "Poor Clara", but "Poor Nickie" to have lost the only mum that he's ever really known. I'm sure that die hard dog (and especially pug) people will be mad at me for this review, but I'm not a dog person. I'm a person who happens to have a dog that I love. I agree that pugs are the only dogs cute enough to make one put up with the hassle of dog ownership (it is very costly, restricts much of your time and vacations, and there usually is something in the house to clean). I love my puggy to death, but she is absolutely my first and last dog. Hopefully, with this book, readers can get a sense of what it's really like to live with this breed (there's quite a tale about an expensive eye operation) so they can look before they leap into pug ownership.
Wonderful book for Pug lovers.......2006-08-25
If you don't own a Pug, you won't understand the humor. If you do, you're going to love this book!

Description needed!.......2000-07-11
First, an apology for using the review mechanism to ask a question, but ... no description, and no apparent way to email the author directly? Intriguing as the title sounds, it's hard to guess what the book is about! Turkish is clearly highly related to Japanese; besides being a similarly agglutinative language, there are too many compelling parallels to ignore (e.g., { sore-, kore-, ore- }
<=> { bura-, sura-, ora- }; { -ka, -mi (please excuse the dot) }. Is this book an attempt to establish a linguistic connection to Turkish? or a way of applying Arabic linguistic methods to an "unrelated" language?

Book Description
If sex sells, what better come-on for merchants of the repressed decades of the 1930s, 40s, and 50s than the come-hither wink of a coquettish countertop mannequin? In Counter Culture, Steven Heller and Louise Fili take us on a colorful peep show of these sexy, sometimes erotic, but always fetishistic, plaster bodies and body parts. Theirs is a surreal look at how mannequins play on consumers' desires, acting as agents of seduction, beckoning us toward that ultimate act--the consumption of goods. In this entertaining book, Heller and Fili unearth the fault line between sex and shopping--between voyeurism and "just looking"--that underlies much of modern commerce.

Packed with a colorful survey of commercial culture.......2002-02-05
The small-statured Counter Culture by Steven Heller and Louise Fili may too easily be missed on laden shelves, but is packed with a colorful survey of commercial culture examining how mini-mannequins and other counter displays both created art and appealed to consumer interests. Color photos of these mannequins pack the pages.
Book Description
In 1967, as the movement for civil rights was turning into a bitter, often violent battle for black power, Harold Cruse's The Crisis of the Negro Intellectual burst onto the scene. It was a lacerating attack on integration, and set the agenda for black cultural, social, and political autonomy. A classic of African American social thought, the book and its author went on to influence generations of activists, artists, and scholars. Cruse's intelligence, independence, and breadth of vision virtually defined what it meant to be a black intellectual in modern America. In this first anthology of Cruse's writing, William Jelani Cobb provides a powerful introduction to Cruse's wide body of work, including published material such as excerpts from Crisis, as well as unpublished essays, speeches, and correspondence. The Essential Harold Cruse is certain to become standard reading for anyone interested in race in American society.

The Father, the son and then Harold Cruse!!!.......2006-06-30
Black people are going to end up as a question on Jeopardy; "What's the name of the race with the most literature on liberation but was never actually liberated?" Answer, "Who is the Black Race Alex." "That is correct." Culture + Politics + Economics = Power...real power. If only we'd read what our Ancestors have intelligently layed out for us. The reviewer underneath me is dead on! I just got his last book, 'Plural But Equal' and will let everyone know how that one is as well.
Essays for the Cause.......2002-06-05
Harold Cruse was one of the most intellectual and insightful men of his time. The Essential Harold Cruse:A Reader is a collection of essays that provides into how he was thinking and what he thought as a black man during times, past and present, of racial strife and struggle.
Mr.Cruse critiques some of the most well known people of his time. Chapter four of the book sticks out in mind, for example. James Baldwin, one of the most well known and respected author's ever, wrote a play called Blues for Mr. Charlie. Mr. Baldwin was emphatic when discussing Mr. Charlie that it was not a Negro play, but just a a play that had some resonant social themes. Cruse criticizes Baldwin for not being true to himself or to the cause. Mr. Cruse was very outspoken and always wrote or said what he thought.
The Essential Harold Cruse:A Reader edited by William Jelani Webb was a very difficult book to read at times because some of the essays were very indepth and I felt as though the author was talking over my head and overanalyzing. On the other hand the collection of essays was insightful and informative and I feel that in reading this book that I learned a lot.
